Day 30: Cafeteria, Dinner

The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.

Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

There were plenty of things to distract Aidou from his lack of an afternoon nap (not quite so serious a loss, having had a lap to relax in), not the least of which included giving the staff at large a long, sharp look of suspicion. After the fieldtrip incident, the set-up seemed almost too obvious; the vampire no longer remotely appreciated a large grouping, not when it was sunset.

If it wound up turning into a similar episode--boxed in with the crowd while nighttime horrors assaulted them--he wasn't going to be caught as unprepared. Precisely why he went to go sit in a corner.

Well, that... and that it was shadowed, and allowed him to keep an eye on that ex-human. So many things to multitask for, it was enough to stir his bloodlust a bit.

The successful shower conversation with Kadaj should have been more awkward than it had been, but Sasuke could probably chalk at least part of that up to the fact that he couldn't see anything anyway, and being naked or not was thus even less of a concern than it might have been before. At any rate, Sasuke left the shower with slightly less of an irritated-perplexed disposition than what he'd gone in with, and demanded his nurse to find Aidou.

Which she did with relative promptness -- maybe he was a bit hard on her, recalling his conversation with Allen about the human nurses -- so his mood didn't darken considerably yet.

"You wanted to talk to me alone?" He asked with all the usual decorum, setting down his tray and sitting with efficiency. The cafeteria was nothing if not predictable in design.

After his shower and a quick glance through the room, Ion was glad Bella and himself had pulled back from the fight. A lot of the patients gathered in the cafeteria were being closely watched by very large, surly men. Ion was quite used to being followed by guards, but they were always ones he personally trusted.

Speaking of trusted guards... no, Anise didn't seem to be here yet! Ion wanted to speak to her more, especially with her joining the Cooking Club alongside him. Ion had plans to help the club - in some form or another! He could try the board later, couldn't he? He didn't think his nurse would have any problem with it...

Collecting his assorted meal, Ion quickly glanced through the tables to find a seat, smack in the middle of the room. He didn't recognize some of the dishes, but the Fon Master was always ready for something new.

[ excuse me, what. ... well, it's true. :'[ ]

That nap was refreshing - of course, Luke was as sore as ever, but he figured some food would help him feel better. The pain in his stomach was starting to overpower the general pain he was feeling in his body and he really wanted to get something to eat.

So today's dinner, as weird as it was, was very welcome and he even got to actually eat it with someone! His room might as well be empty with the silence going on between him and the other guy. Speaking of someone to actually talk to...

Luke scanned the cafeteria, and he brightened when he saw the person he was looking for. The way he had his hair... it was definitely...!

"Ion!"

He ran towards his friend, knowing subconsciously that might not have been the best idea in his state, but who cared about that?! It was Ion, his friend, the one whom sacrificed himself so long ago and came ba-

"OWWWW!" Luke's eagerness was a little too much for him and he ended up crashing on the ground next to where Ion was sitting, grabbing at his leg as his body screamed in protest.

"Aheh... I overdid it a bit..." Great, there went his dinner.

[[Very Much Open for Bugging]]

Tenchi made his way to the cafeteria, accompanied by the ever-present chatty nurse. Truthfully, he had had an exhaustive day and was tired. He just wanted to eat his meal, so he tuned her out for the entirety of the walk.

Once he had collected his food, Tenchi found an open seat off in a corner and began to munch his food contemplatively.

He was really beginning to miss Sasami's cooking.

Seemed last shift was the time to be productive, while this one might be a little slower. He caught sight of a couple of the people from the message board, but they were already busily engaged in conversation, as were most of the shinigami. He couldn't very well make any sort of report to the other shinigami on the message board either, not without giving away far too much. If they wanted the information today, they'd simply have to try a little harder to get it. It could wait anyway.

Gin picked up a little bit of everything before he found a fairly empty table. The boy there looked to be fairly young and Gin was almost certain he hadn't seen him here before. All the better.

"Evenin'," he said with a smile as he set his tray down. "Mind a lil' company?"

The rain had come and gone, so swift and fleeting like always, to wash away sins and cleanse tortured, weary souls. It was 89% effective, River estimated, coupled with debilitating mental illnesses and personal limitations. Wash away the old, sweep in the new... It was a common practice, and yet to cleanse oneself never really left it all open for change... Change was dark and unknowing. To become something new was frightening and wrong in some places. The corners of her mind darkened against the change, and she remained as she had been before the flood.

With two orderlies at her side, River moved from the line, ignoring them, acting as though they weren't even there while she took a seat at a fairly empty table. In truth nothing was really there. It never had been. Just phantoms dancing against a grey, stormy backdrop. The girl-weapon sat, perfectly still, staring vacantly at her food as though willing it to be ingested and processed simply by its own, nonexistent will.

Everything came and went in turn. Out with the old, in with the new, replaced by the always. Brown eyes fixated blankly on what was set before her, seeing nothing.

After his unwanted uncounter with Gluttony, Scar was more relieved than he could say to see River sitting at one of the cafeteria tables. He began to walk towards her, tray in hand, trying very hard not to punch one the two orderlies escorting him when both of them grabbed him firmly by the shoulders.

"Mr. Sampson, I don't think it's a very good idea."

"Yes, you shouldn't be fraternizing with the very same girl who caused you to join the riot."

Scar glared murder over his shoulder, though he didn't say anything for a full few seconds. Finally, he got out in a level voice:

"I just want to see if she's all right."

The orderlies glanced at each other, as if trying to figure out whether discouraging rebellion or encouraging compassion was a bigger priority at Landel's. They seemed to decide on the latter, because a moment later, one of them sighed and motioned towards the seat opposite River.

"Fine, but you'll be sent back to your room if you try anything out of line, Mr. Sampson!"

"I won't try anything," Scar muttered, and he really meant it. After the events of this morning and his being drugged to all hell, he barely remembered the refreshing adrenaline rush from the morning, though he hadn't forgotten the reason for it.

"River," Scar peered into the girl's face as he sat down across from her, "River, are you okay?"

After what had happened in the yellow vehicles only mere days ago, Scar couldn't say he was pleased with having dinner in the cafeteria instead of his room.

Even after he had collected his meal, he kept his cat-like eyes on the staff, watching their every movement. If there would be the slightest hint of a transformation into those filthy monsters they were during the night, the lion would make sure he'd notice it. He'd notice it and escape this room instantly. Or so he hoped.

Thanks to the suspicion he could barely get any food down his throat. The King hoped his discomfort was merely a result of the sudden chaos after the field trip.

But still, he felt like prey.

[ hope you don't mind. ]

"Ah--hello."

Ryoko glanced over at the other patient with a little smile as she seated herself and set down her tray. Which was laden with so much food it was rather mindboggling, how she managed to fit so much on such a limited surface area.

...In her defense, she hadn't eaten breakfast. And, additionally, this was her first time being human. How was she supposed to know her newly-acquired internal organ systems would be so demanding? Of course she'd observed the dining mannerisms of her classmates at North High. But seeing was one thing. Living humanity out was quite another.

Normally, she'd try to engage the man sitting next to her in some polite conversation, and dig around for some more manageable data about this place. Normally, she'd try to remember why exactly her memories of the last few hours were so annoyingly vague--she was certain she hadn't been sedated in the chaos of the breakfast riot--and what exactly had Kyon said in response to her question again?

But right now, she took a first delicate bite of her cole slaw. It was a bit like the beginning of a landslide, when that obligatory lone pebble began bouncing down the slope. The avalanche quickly followed, and Ryoko began wolfing down her dinner at a speed unknown to man.

Rinali entered the cafeteria again, feeling drained and dead. She hadn't cried much at all today, the pain too real for tears; however, the pain she felt at the loss of her brother left her feeling numb. She went through the motions, grabbing a little bit of everything off the cafeteria counter, then found a seat not far off.

Absently she toyed at her food, not thinking, not feeling. Night would come soon. Maybe she could just sleep through it.

The discussion with Bella in the music room had been interesting, albeit a bit brief. At least he was meeting more Earthians. Perhaps he could find someone who was well-versed in the technology here so he could figure out how to use it to their advantage.

In the meantime, it was probably best to eat something. Nightshift would be coming soon, and he needed to keep up his strength. The dish was, as usual, quite foreign compared to what he ate before coming here, but he was starting to grow used to it -- like it, even.

Once he'd grabbed his food, he glanced around for a suitable place to sit. The Jedi noticed the orderlies who were accompanying some of the patients, most likely participants in the riot this morning. It was probably best to stay away from those people for the time being, so as to not draw any unnecessary attention to himself.

He paused when he noticed a young girl sitting alone -- he didn't need a strong connection to the Force to sense the grief she was practically radiating. Frowning a little to himself, he approached her, moving slow enough so he wouldn't startle her.

"Are you all right?" he quietly asked her.

HK escaped the meatbags as fast as he could without causing himself total embarrassment. Still, he'd very nearly tripped over his own feet as he launched himself out of his chair and zoomed over to his nurse ("Exclamation: Get me out of here!").

The meatbags might still follow him, but he was hoping that wouldn't be the case. His brain hurt from the treatment they had put it through over the last shift.

"How's it hangin'?" The detective grinned as his nurse left the two to talk.

[Free for bugging, no matter what he thinks about that idea]

Recluse was angry at all the little irritations he was being subjected to today. Marcus had somehow made him even more furious than usual. The disruption of the morning brawl had now carried over into his usual time for working on weapons projects. And if Landel was rejoining them all, it meant that Doyle was most likely dead, so he wouldn't be getting the magnesium he needed. If I had known that he was going to act like such a complete idiot, then I wouldn't have bothered pretending to be even remotely polite to him.

And ontop of everything else, all the bright lights were giving him a headache, as usual. He just wanted the nightshift to come so he could go out into the dark and kill something.

Someone felt miserable, angry, possibly in pain. More importantly, someone felt all of these things while sitting nowhere near Hellmaster, Amelia or Zelgadis. Perfect. Xelloss had filled his plate up thoroughly before coming over to sit down across from Recluse, smiling up at him cheerfully.

"Hello. Exciting day, isn't it?" The fact that his dining companion didn't seem to find it enjoyable at all just added to Xelloss's cheer. He had the feeling that, come evening, he would need all the good cheer he could muster when he met with Hellmaster. Best to enjoy things while he could!

Well, looks like Armand shouldn't have worried about whether everyone would be getting dinner. TK sat down and started eating so fast that his nurse looked like she was worrying he might choke. He just wanted to get all the food he'd need, in case anything disrupted this meal, too. It worried him to be around the staff during the last part of the day. There might be a repeat of what happened on the transports after the day in town. Only now, there were so many more potential hostiles around, TK doubted he'd be able to do much more than grab as many civvies as he could and try to cover their escape.

Worst-case scenario, of course, but TK was always good at focusing on those first.

The staff members seemed to be quite unhappy with Fox for his snuggling with Lyta, even though they hadn't interrupted it. They hovered over him as he got his dinner, and as he sat down across from another patient one of the large male nurses sat on either side of him.

Fox didn't express his irritation at the company, but he nodded to the person he was sitting across from. "Hello, RC."

Talking to Ken had managed to take Yohji's mind off things for a short while at least, but the thoughts came flooding back as soon as the nurses came for him. He didn't even make a token effort to eat his food when he set the tray down, but just sipped at the drink slowly.

You'd have thought that it would get easier after all the times it had happened, but every time it seemed to cut a little deeper and he wasn't sure how much left of him there was to cut. Damn it, he'd been as close to happy yesterday as he'd been in months, years even. He'd had something to aim for, some kind of light at the end of the tunnel and now Cliff was gone because he'd got too close.

He'd told Schuldig that he'd try, and he would, just... he couldn't yet while it was still so clear in his mind.

William could only categorize today as a pleasant day. Not much had been accomplished, not when it came to his viruses, but that could only be expected. He wasn't idiotic enough to think that the nurses wouldn't take away his vials the second he took them from their safe location. But that was fine, the doctor could wait until night fell.

In the mean time though, William had to say that today was rather eventful. It was always good to meet new faces and, oh dear, he hadn't gotten the flopping bird brained man's name. Pity. William fought back a smirk as he collected his food and sat down at an empty table.

Keman was feeling refreshed after his shower, but he hadn't been able to find Inoue, and that concerned him. He hoped that he hadn't gotten the time or place wrong. What if she'd been waiting and he never showed? He'd feel like an absolute wretch if that happened.

Sighing, he grabbed his food and started to poke at it with his fork. It tasted all right, but he was far too preoccupied to really enjoy it.

[identity profile] simpleastherain.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
The nice feeling of being freshly showered disappeared rather quickly for Orihime. First she'd showered too fast, then the nurse fussed with her until she had washed all of the soap off her skin, and though she protested the woman wouldn't even let her have a fresh set of clothes until she was completely dry and brushed. By the time she'd been allowed to leave the shift was over. Just another side effect from the morning fight, she guessed.

She didn't see the things she put into her tray, only knowing that she'd grabbed something hastily to placate the ever-looming nurses. She'd put off their meeting twice now. When she finally spotted him, Orihime practically ran to the table, skidding a little before she caught herself.

"I'msorryKemansan!" She said in a single breath, trying to bow and hold the tray aloft at the same time.

The shift had ended before Leon had gotten the chance to ask Gin what his room number was. That was no good. He'd have to find the man again and get it from him if he was going to be able to help him with his radio issues.

He sighed, flopping down with his dinner. It didn't look all that appealing except for the corn, so he started on that. The good thing was he didn't have any of those hulking orderlies around his table. He didn't know how he'd be able to stand eating with those men watching over his shoulder.

This place thrived on confusion, Fayt decided as he was led through the food line. That had to be what gave 'Martin Landel' so much power on top of whatever he had to begin with--and the place was thriving, to say the least. Fayt frowned, allowing his nurse to lead him to a table as he thought through what Albel had tried to explain. He would have to find Albel again...

Sanosuke hadn't had time to react to Kenshin's news about Tomoe; even as the words were sinking in, he'd seen orderlies going after Okita and Hijikata. Maybe his mind just wanted a distraction, or a simple, clean fight that would make sense. But the fighter had been ready to walk over when the thing broke up, and the lady voice was announcing dinner.

It'd all gone by in a blur.

Tomoe. Yukishiro Tomoe, the woman who had really inspired Kenshin to be a rurouni. The woman who was just as dead as Okita and Hijikata were supposed to be, dead and buried in Kyoto, where she couldn't stop Enishi. Dead, because Kenshin himself had killed her.

Somehow, with each passing minute, things made less fucking sense.

Sanosuke's confusion kept his mind occupied, and filling his tray did the same for his hands. The food looked weird, but it didn't smell bad, and Sano was starving, not having eaten since the night before. The fighter was still thinking over everything when he sat down, but thankfully stuffing his face didn't require too much thought. So Sanosuke began to work on the pile of food on his tray, his eyes watching all the while for his closest friend.

There was no way in hell Kenshin wasn't joining him for this meal. No fucking way.

Kenshin, for his part, was just as silent. He hadn't wanted to talk about it, hadn't even wanted to think about it. Because...despite the way she'd been dressed, the names she called him and herself, there had been no mistaking it. The woman who had visited him the day before was Tomoe. He'd tried to convince himself otherwise, of course, but deep down, he knew that it had been her.

What had they done to her?

Sitting down near Sano, Kenshin picked up the still-unfamiliar fork and pushed the food around on his plate.

He wasn't terrifically hungry.

[Late to the party but still free for a chat!]

Despite the wonky schedule and a few uneventful shifts, the day wasn't a total waste. Anise had finally gotten herself into a club, which should at least please the Colonel, she figured. And she was killing two birds with one stone by going with Ion! This way, she could do some work and guard him at the same time.

And she would do a proper job of it, this time.

She would have liked to talk to Ion now, to find out how much he'd learned about the institution and discuss... well, lots of other things they needed to talk about, but it looked like Luke had beat her to him. That was fine, though; she was going to see him tonight, for sure. And she knew full well that Luke probably wanted to see Ion as much as she did.

In the meantime, she needed to eat a proper meal and get ready for the night. The meat was prepared a little differently than she was used to, but it smelled good enough. And it was so very, very nice to be able to eat two-handed foods like corn on the cob again. Last time it was on the menu, she had that stupid sling to get in her way. Anise was going to be careful not to end up in that kind of condition again. It was annoying.

She sat down at a table without paying much attention to who was around and dug in, all the while being careful to mind her manners and keep up a cute, feminine image for any strangers that might be looking her way.

[Late too, though I'll be slow posting. Feel free to brush her off.]

The quiet day, minus the fight at breakfast, in a string of quiet days almost made Relena restless. Her nurse's nattering about how Relena was setting such a good example for the rest of the patients made her even more so. It wasn't like she had chosen to be here, after all.

Reluctantly, she piled up a plate of food, ignoring the nurse's suggestions that she "try the corn!" or "you really should eat more protein, Anne, dear - you're so skinny!" Honestly, didn't this woman have something more productive to do than push food down her throat? She held her tongue, however, and complied when she was settled across from a little girl digging into her own meal.

Relena wanted to frown at the thought of children held prisoner here as well, but she held back. The last thing she wanted to do was upset the child and draw the attention of the nurses. Besides, they probably herded her over here to keep her away from Quatre, who was engaged in conversation with a teen she had seen from afar.

To at least appear pleasant, Relena smiled before poking at her food. "I hope I'm not disturbing you. The nurse didn't give me much choice."

[Waiting to be pounced on by Ami-chan]

Logan was still a little shaken by the memories of his (latest) now-dead wife, and the circumstances that had led to him choosing to leave her and thus leaving her inadequately protected from her attacker. Still, he reminded himself that that was in the past, and could not be changed, though it would probably still haunt him until his death, if ever he could even die. But there were more important matters at hand to attend to now.

The intercom announcement had made him feel a little better; real food, the likes of which he'd not had since that trip into town. And certainly much better options than there'd been at breakfast. He needed no cajoling to be led to the cafeteria this evening, and made a bee-line for the food counter as soon as he arrived. Piling his plate high with mashed potato, pork, corn and gravy, and taking a large glass of water, he took a seat alone and reflected on Statesman's like-mindedness and sense of duty as he ate, both the other man's assurances and the food relaxing him and putting his mind slightly more at ease. He needed to be centred should Landel actually arrive at the cafeteria in person as implied on the intercom.

[identity profile] icy-pole.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
The quick shower had been refreshing, and Ami flicked her damp hair out of her eyes as she made her way into the cafeteria. She paused in the doorway as she scanned the room. As the announcement had said, orderlies were everywhere. The earlier fight had obviously concerned them.

Her stomach suddenly growled - a very Usagi-thing to do - and she blushed slightly. She hadn't been eating properly, and her body was paying for it. I really have to make sure that I eat right, otherwise I won't have any energy for all these "nightly exploits", she thought as she filled up a plate with pork and vegetables.

Looking around, she noticed Logan sitting on his own. She made his way over to him. "Good evening, Logan-san," she said politely, though she was still nervous about talking to the intimidating older man. "May I sit here or are you expecting someone?"

Before he’d even realized how much time had passed, Simon found himself once again being led into the cafeteria. He hadn’t felt hungry at first, but that feeling immediately dissipated when he was actually confronted with food—something he took full advantage of.

Securing himself a seat at an empty table, he quickly set to eating and silently pondering what the hell he was going to do tonight—especially if he was to believe everything he’d been told.

Food. Food was always a good thing. No matter what, not even if this was some kind of illusion, not even if he was really insane or dead (Yeah, right, like that would happen. Who would take care of his sisters? Who would save his niece from boring stories that would be told instead of his amazing ones!?), and even if he had been thrust into some kind of twisted nightmare... You just couldn't ruin food. Not even Beastmen could mess food up, back when they were the bad guys.

Therefore, Kittan had no problem when he was taken away in the middle of... doing nothing, for dinner. Because not only did dinner mean food, it meant night was coming, which meant he would be able to get around easily soon and see if he couldn't figure out just what was going on for himself. Mello had been helpful, but still, firsthand experience always topped being told things - unless they were told dramatically and had lots of explosions added in.

But when he sat down at a seat and prepared to bite into his food, he looked up right into the face of...

"S-Simon!?" exclaimed Kittan, dropping the sandwich onto his plate and leaping backwards and falling off the seat and onto his ass. Ignoring that, he quickly got back up. He had not expected to be seeing the world's most important man here - except maybe in the form of the Gurren Lagann breaking through in a rescue attempt or something. "They got you too!?"

[ waiting for Luffy~ ]

It was good to see Kairi again, even if the other girl didn't have good news to tell her. Naminé at least knew that Kairi was alive and well, and it sounded like Sora was still around. And even though she knew she must have disappointed Luxord, she was glad that he was still around too.

Unlike Roxas. Riku. Her Riku. Raven. Elena, she was sure that Elena was gone since Naminé hadn't seen her in days.

Even Larxene was gone. This should have made Naminé happy, but when she thought about what might have happened to Larxene to have her disappear from the Institute...

She sat down at an empty end of a table with her tray, looking glumly down at her food. Perhaps she should avoid contact with the others; she seemed to have some curse about her.

Nothing really important had happened during the shower shift. The Cat Lady had herded him out a little earlier than he'd been expecting, but the pirate had wound up using the extra time to catch a few Zs. After that, he was feeling remarkably better -- much more like his usual self. And instead of tea and rice crackers, he was in the mood for some meat!

Which, awesomely enough, was exactly what they were serving for dinner. Luffy hummed to himself as got some food, though he couldn't help but glance over his shoulder at the big guys who were following him around. It was almost...stalker-ish, but as long as they weren't bothering him, Luffy guessed he didn't have a problem with their being there. Just as long as they didn't try sneaking anything from his plate, at any rate.

Once he'd gotten his food, Luffy didn't take long to choose where he wanted to sit. He rarely waffled over stuff like that anyway. He usually just found whatever was convenient or best and went with it. And, today, that place happened to be by a blond girl.

"Yo!" he said brightly as he set his tray down across from her. Realizing she seemed kind of glum, he peered forward at her plate. "Something wrong with your dinner?"

Lucivar was not a happy Eyrien Warlord Prince. He glared at the two orderlies who sat on either side of him and clenched his fork, reminding himself that he couldn't stab either of them in the eye with it and get away without being sedated. He didn't want that again but the temptation was so strong that it took every ounce of his self control to keep his temper leashed.

He didn't remember when he felt this out of control. It'd been years, surely. Given the fact that he'd been under Dorothea's thumb for centuries should have made the transition to a similar situation rather easy, but it wasn't. He hated the thought of being kept captive and his wings clipped, unable to feel like his true self. He knew what he had to do - keep his head down and listen to Daemon and his father but Mother Night if it wasn't difficult. Everything just prompted him to be on the killing edge. Daemon didn't help much only to remind him to cool his head. Well, it was easy for him to say. The Bastard was always deceptively cool, keeping his head even in the worst situation. But Lucivar was always the opposite of his brother and he felt the strain even now when there was no immediate danger.

He took a deep breath and forced himself to ease his grip on the fork causing the orderlies to give a small sigh of relief. Lucivar wasn't going to attack, no, he was going to sit quietly and eat his dinner just like a good little patient. He hoped he didn't have to keep up this charade for much longer. He'd been promised that once night fell he'd have more then enough creatures to vent his frustrations on and he looked forward to it with an anticipation that made him tense. He almost pitied whatever creature he'd come across first. Almost.

The nurse accompanying Diva was still muttering about "Catherine" and the incident in the shower--about how silly it'd been leaving her charge with that girl, and how both girls were so disobedient, and... Diva didn't pay attention to the words. They meant little to her. Not when she had other things occupying her mind, so much more important things.

She didn't eat human food, she didn't co-exist peacefully with anyone, really, but she went where the noise was all the same, potential dogfight or not.

Diva just wanted some clue to her children.

Not having a destination in mind, Diva weaved past a few tables before the human's chattering caught up with her, this time about her soaking, tangled hair. Normally it would've been a Chevalier's first task, to gently brush and dry it out after a bath, but in their absence she didn't keep to the routine--the humans who were keeping her captive would not touch her. So when the nurse finally reached out to grab her shoulder with the intent to slow her, a hairbrush in her hand and a request for Diva to try a relaxing activity with one of the nurses on her lips, the Chiropteran turned and smacked the offending object away, shaking the hand off.

The brush clattered onto a nearby table, clinking against a water glass. Diva watched it, and one of the men who gave her and her nurse a questioning look. Perhaps this time she would win the fight if they moved to stop her.

Again, just when she was just starting to have a little bit of fun, the nurses had to come and interrupt everything. It was just as tedious as it always had been. She didn't care about keeping the drawings, but she had wanted to steal some of the paint to take back to the room. Unfortunately, she got caught almost immediately and had the paint taken from her. Boy, they sure seemed pretty sharp here.

The nurses herded Harley into a big cafeteria, another thing she definitely wasn't used to. It was here she realized how huge this new asylum must be. The place was completely packed! There must have been more people in this room than she had ever seen in Arkham. Was this place actually bigger? That would explain the tighter security. That would definitely make busting out trickier. Not that she was all that worried about it. There were always loop holes. She just needed enough time to notice them, is all.

While she gaped at her surroundings, the noticeably edger nurses shoved a tray with food into her hands and scooted her along, eventually bringing her to a table. Talk about pushy! What was the deal all of a sudden? All the staff looked even stiffer than usual.

Harley sat herself at the table she'd all but been shoved toward and looked down at the food. She honestly wasn't all that hungry, oddly enough. She probably should have been, but she just found herself poking at the mashed potatoes with her fork. There wasn't even enough to make some decent shapes... though she could certainly still try.

[Hope you don't mind company?]

Daemon was less than amused at his doubled 'escort' tonight, although after breakfast, he supposed he couldn't really blame them. Well, he could, but the response was logical. He filled his tray silently, doing his best to ignore the shadows lurking close behind him, before glancing around for a seat. Spotting a young blond woman sitting alone playing with her food, he made his way towards her, pausing across the table from her.

"Is it alright if I join you?" he asked politely, his tone smooth and cultured as he stood there patiently.

L once again found himself ignoring the food. As much as he knew his health would suffer for continuously avoiding his meals, he couldn't safely make such a drastic change in diet. Instead of consuming his meal, he directed his attention towards his leg; massaging it based on what he had learned through observing Naomi during breakfast. While he occupied himself with this action he considered the new development that had been mentioned on the intercom.

If the head doctor had finished his duties as the woman had indicated; it would seem as though whatever had transpired on the roof had ended. That said very little about the matter itself. There were still a number of possible scenarios that needed to be considered. The condition of both the Head Doctor and the man on the radio remained undetermined, as it would not be to the benefit to the staff if such matters were brought to light. If the head doctor had been reported as injured or dead at this moment, the patient might have gained some hope. Hope given by the staff, in this kind of setting, seemed to be fallacious. They would do their best to assure that any unwelcome changes in this environment would be prevented.

Most likely, if the Head Doctor had reason to do such, the man would gloat over the injury or demise of his rival to the patients during the night shift; if not to mock, but lower patient moral. However, there was the possibility that he would simply avoid expressing any reaction to what had recently occurred, as it could be a possible tactic to create confusion... however, if Martin's ego was as big as L perceived, then it was doubtful that he would miss the opportunity to boast. It seemed that L would have to wait until night fell for the truth of the matter to be revealed.

He did a quick look around the room and spotted a familiar face; Naomi’s roommate. L had been meaning to speak to her ever since that incident regarding the buses, and even more so after he had seen her talking to Light. L put on a friendly smile and tried to wave her over.

Beatrix came in the cafeteria with an oddly satisfied look upon her face. Finally, she'd get her chance. She was in a good enough mood that she went up to the food and got herself a salad, deciding she'd eat, having come to the conclusion that the food wasn't drugged.

Looking around, she saw Hanyuu with another young girl. She really needed to give the girl a talking to about last night and her disobeying, but she caught sight of Maki's friend waving her over.

He was smiling.

It looked a bit too friendly to her, but she figured she'd find out what he wanted. Besides, it was hard to put a damper on her semi-good mood. She walked over and sat down by the young man.

"What can I do for you?" Her tone was light as she picked up her glass of water.

Reinforce had spent most of the fourth shift tending to her bulletin post under the eyes of her attending orderlies trying to keep up a steady appearance that wouldn't worry Raine.

But by the end of the shift and the beginning of the heretofore-unknown group dinner her mind was fairly clear and she felt confident that she could talk to her roommate and this person from the bulletin board who'd expressed interest in meeting her.

Bearing one of her usual large meals, she seated herself at a table with enough open seats to accommodate her planned company and cast her eyes around the cafeteria for the pair.

"Hi, I'm Archer, nice to meet you," he introduced, casually slipping into a seat across from Reinforce. "Are you the one from the bulletin board who put up the bestiary?"

Silver hair to mid-thigh. No kidding it was hard to miss, even among all the unique people gathered here. Archer also noted that she was easy on the eyes, which was a good thing. Although, from the her no-nonsense note, Archer could tell she was a very serious individual.

Truthfully, Archer wasn't completely sure what he wanted out of this conversation. He'd already heard most of what there was to hear about Landel's surprises. Hopefully.

The main reason he wanted to meet this person was because she seemed like a very intelligent person and had gathered extensive knowledge of the monsters there. Such a person would prove an invaluable ally. After all his missions, he of all people should know the importance of information. It could turn the tide of battle, topple governments, and change fate. Well, the last one was usually a little iffy.

Come dinner, Hisoka found himself sitting alone at a table away from the door. He liked this better, it beat being trapped in his room for about an hour. On the other hand, this meant that if everything went as it usually did then he'd have to make his way back to his room in order to get his metal. His measly metal.

There was no doubt he was going to have to compensate--if Mustang even had enough to make up for where Hisoka had failed.

Hisoka sighed, poking thoughtlessly at his food. He wasn't hungry, he was tired in a resigned sort of way. There were things to be done, though, so rest was out of the question for now.

(Waiting for Shana)

Valyn was grateful to finally have another meal. He was rather used to three a day, and skipping one had him in a slightly more disagreeable mood than previous. At least he'd had a shower.

He'd need to speak with Shadow about the coming night. Perhaps a quick note on the board...

Thinking things over, he grabbed a tray of food and sat down, trying to figure out what, exactly, to do with the upcoming evening.

Shana had spent a lot of time thinking over her conversation with Valyn this morning, and after a quick shower, she'd finally reluctantly sought out her nurse, who seemed more than happy to be overly feminine in her advice and aid in how to make Shana look 'prettier'.

So, despite not wearing the skirt from town, there was still a marked improvement as Shana slipped into the cafeteria, grabbed a tray of food, and searching the room for Valyn before heading in his direction. Her hair was partially up in some ornate style of braid while the back hung down loose and curling against her shoulders, still damp from her shower. And her nurse had let her put on something called 'gloss' on her lips which tasted faintly of strawberries and made them feel much smoother, as well as sprayed some pretty smelling scent she'd had tucked away in her purse.

She wasn't entirely certain this was what Valyn had meant earlier, but she hoped that maybe he'd notice. Coming to sink down in the empty chair beside him, she cast him a shy smile and a quietly murmured, "Hello," in greeting

Showers ended and Ritsuka was bandaged back up. He disliked having his nurse touch him, considering the conversation he'd just had, but when he'd insisted on doing it himself, she had ignored him. There was so much to think about and too many people around - too much noise, too much interference. Ritsuka took the tray from his nurse, not caring what she put on there and went to sit down somewhere. He needed to see Alfons and Miku, but everytime he had the chance they were always talking to someone else or not around.

Miku was already talking to someone again and Alfons was... Ritsuka bit his lip as he scanned the cafeteria. Alfons wasn't anywhere to be seen. Had the doctors taken him? Was he not feeling well again? Ritsuka sat down at the first free seat he could find and quickly checked again. Still no Alfons...

Tonight, he'd make a note asking to meet with the boy and with Miku. Maybe he could pass them their files and find out if-- He sighed and dropped his head, pushing the tray away. What if Alfons was just avoiding him? He wouldn't begrudge the German any, even if it hurt. Opening his journal, Ritsuka went back to reading his patient file, chewing on his pen and pretending to take notes so the nurses wouldn't get suspicious.

There was so much to think about...and he was too tired to think.

Soubi was late coming out of the last shift. The nurse had fussed, but he refused to move until he felt Ritsuka's gift was perfect. Or as perfect as it could be, given the time and tools available.

He was glad he'd done it when he saw the young boy sat alone and looking so sad. It was that file again. Why couldn't he leave it? Soubi had read his own and it had hurt and sickened him but he could deal with that. He could take it. Ritsuka, however, didn't need this. Any of it.

"They're just words," he said, stroking Ritsuka's hair as he sat down with his tray and journal. Words had power, but these didn't deserve any. Willpower had to overcome them.
