Day 30: Cafeteria, Dinner

The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.

Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

An unfamiliar voice broke through the din of the cafeteria, making Naminé look up with surprise. It was a boy she might have seen once or twice around the Institute, but she had never spoken to him before.

"U-Um, no, it's not that," she meekly smiled back. He seemed rather friendly, so she didn't want to seem unfriendly back to him. But it was hard when she feared that even talking to her might bring a curse down on him.

"I was just thinking about other things. My name is Naminé," She introduced herself to the boy, extending a hand forward and leaving her dinner as untouched as ever.

"Oh, really?" Luffy settled down in his seat, glancing at her food again. "Well, just wonderin'. 'Cause I totally would have taken it off your hands if there was something wrong with it." He had something of an iron stomach, after all, and he doubted the Cat Ladies would be nice enough to let him get a whole lot of food.

Which was actually pretty mean, considering they hadn't eaten lunch.

Luffy wasn't really sure what other things the girl had been thinking about, but Luffy wasn't really the type to pry into stuff like that. Instead, he grinned and nodded when she introduced herself. "Naminé, huh? I'm Luffy! Nice to meet you!"

The pirate popped some food into his mouth, and he studied the girl for a moment. "Where're you from?" The ocean? Outer space? The distant future? The time of dinosaurs? Man, there were always so many different possibilities!

The blonde was actually contemplating offering Luffy a portion of her food, but they didn't have lunch (probably because of what happened earlier that morning) and Naminé was feeling hungry. Still... the food did look rather unappetizing at the same time. Something about the way the shredded meat (was it meat?) oozed out between the buns seemed...

"If you want some, please feel free," She smiled, pushing the tray slightly towards Luffy. Naminé would have to make do with the snacks they got.

Luffy was so animated with his guesses on where she came from that she was stunned. If only her birthplace was as interesting as the places he mentioned...

"Oh, I... I came from a castle, actually. It's kind of boring," She smiled apologetically. "Where you came from is probably more interesting than where I came from."

Luffy stared at the food Naminé offered him, his eyebrows raising. Then, he looked back and forth, between the girl and her tray. "Woah, you're serious?!" he asked, genuinely surprised. People had hardly given him free food since his first days at the institute. There were some things about those days that he missed, but it wouldn't do to go getting hung up on the past.

He laughed, pulling the tray a little closer to himself. "Hey, thanks! You're really nice!" He took a huge bite of his own sandwich for now, intent on polishing off his own food first before moving onto Naminé's.

"You came from a castle?" he echoed, looking very interested. "Are you a princess?" He was friends with a princess! He'd wanted her to come along with them on their voyage, but she apparently had other things she'd needed to care of instead. Maybe princess were really busy people? He sure missed Vivi sometimes, though...

He laughed, taking a drink from his cup of juice. "I was sailing on the ocean before coming here! The Grand Line, to be exact. There're all sorts of interesting islands to see there."

The food made him happy, and Naminé was glad. He must have been really hungry; maybe he was one of the people who couldn't eat at breakfast because of the riot?

The blonde felt a blush coming to her cheeks when Luffy asked her if she was a princess. Why did people always come to that conclusion?! Well, no, it made sense, but at the same time, it was so horribly off what Naminé actually was...

"O-Oh, no, nothing exciting like that. I just ah..." Destroyed the memories of the Keyblade Hero! "I worked there. No, I am not a princess."

But Naminé was really interested in what Luffy was saying, leaning forward slightly. On the ocean! Was he perhaps a sailor of some sort? She had met a lot of interesting people so far, with many stories and tales, but this was actually something new and she let her curiosity roam.

"Did you have your own ship? That sounds really fun!"
