The intercom's jingle came on with its usual overly-cheery quality, echoing through the halls and doctors' offices.

"I trust, as always, that you all enjoyed the last shift and that all the staff-patient interaction went smoothly. Of course, we're nearing the end of another day and so we must begin to bring things to a close. Nurses and orderlies, please escort all the patients to their respective rooms and make sure everyone gets their dinner--which is, by the way, chicken teriyaki and assorted tempura, along with rice and miso soup--before they retire for the night. A vegetarian substitute is of course available, and we have our usual assortment of drinks; we also have a special of hot green tea to go along with the meal.

"Thank you, everyone, for an exceedingly pleasant day, and our therapy sessions will continue tomorrow as scheduled. Enjoy your dinner, and I will be on again before bedtime to say goodnight."

The announcement ended.

[ As always, individual dinner threads go in response to this post, and it helps to put your character's room number in the subject line. Thanks! ]

((taking place in room F25 specifically))

Dinner had been alright. She had somehow avoided talking to anyone, which was both good and bad. The good part was, unless it had been someone she knew, she didn't have to talk to anyone. While she felt considerably better after meeting Rena, she couldn't stop her mind from going back to being strapped to that table again... The bad part was, she wouldn't get to talk much until nightshift ended.

Mion wasn't quite sure how she should have felt about the announcemnt, but if you got right down to it, it honestly meant nothing to her. On the one hand, the man on the radio had apparently been helping people. But who knew if that was true? Seeing as he wasn't exactly on good terms with the boss here, it made perfect sense for him to have been using them during Nightshift, for whatever reason.

Plus, his help couldn't have been that helpful anyway. She hadn't heard about any break outs yet, and until she did, she wouldn't call it helping. Not from someone who apparently had been on the same terms as the Head Doctor, anyway. She might have felt differently had she known she had met him during the trip, and then again, maybe she wouldn't. Living in Hinamizawa meant you saw things.

Letting out a loud, exagerated moan, Mion got off of what she had been forced to call her bed and began pulling the mattress off of it. It was going to be a long, lonely night; might as well start.

The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.

Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

Hitsugaya woke with a start.

His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.

And in his hand, still...there was the key.

He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.

That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.

The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.

Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

"Good morning, Landel's!" The Head Doctor's voice blared over the intercom with a little more feedback than usual. He seemed rushed, and his voice was far less calm and controlled as it usually was during the daytime. He seemed rushed, tired. "I don't have much time at the moment, unfortunately; some troubles last night have forced the staff to convene an emergency meeting, though I hope your usual schedule won't be interrupted. For breakfast, the cafeteria has baked for you a delicious choice of hot cinnamon rolls and muffins - blueberry, banana nut, chocolate chip, you name it. We also have yogurt and fruits as sides, along with our usual choice of cereals and drinks. I hope to speak to you again soon!"

The intercom clattered, then clicked off. After a few seconds, it clicked on again.

"Oh, and nurses, could you please escort our new patients into the cafeteria along with the regular population, as per usual? Thank you very much!"

The intercom jingled again and turned off, this time for good.
