Day 30: Cafeteria, Dinner

The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.

Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

Xelloss sighed, because that last bit actually hit home quite nicely. One must be on one's best behavior to avoid the enmity of others, particularly in such vulnerable times, but that didn't make it easier when others were being exceptionally stupid.

"Well, there's still a bright side. At least so long as you're working alongside him, he isn't working against you!" It might not be so easy to say the same about Zelgadis and Amelia.

"Yes, I keep reminding myself of that fact." It probably was easier to do things this way, but it could become so hard to remember that when Marcus decided to go running off to save some random idiot who was getting themselves killed. "

I'm also trying to remind myself that he used to lack most of the morals that make him so difficult to deal with today. I'm hoping that with enough work he'll revert to something akin to what he was." Which still wouldn't change his end goal- to kill the man. He'd still possessed a completely insufferable personality long before he started calling himself Statesman.
