Day 30: Cafeteria, Dinner

The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.

Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

Today had been a good - no, a wonderful day. It had been full of conversations and discoveries and research. It was a shame that the Intercom Man hadn't given a show today, but the Lady seemed to be just as good at the announcements, so Jack didn't mind. No, he had much more important things to deal with at the moment. It seemed that people were given a chance to talk today rather than being sent back to their all too tiny rooms and that meant more interviews and more possibilities.

Taking the tray his nurse gave him, he quickly asked, "Where are all the beasts and ghouls kept during the day? Don't you think it's unfair to leave them locked up when they could be making friends?"

The nurse just put a hand to her forehead and pointed him toward the food counter. She quickly took her leave and Jack almost chased after her when a heavenly scent came to him. How strange and...somewhat unappetizing. Moving toward the counter, he peered curiously at the food spread out and frowned. "Where are all the bones?"

"...we throw them out," came the reply from a cafeteria worker as he served up a full portion. Jack crinkled his nose and scratched his head, staring at the food.

"That seems like a waste of perfectly good bones, but thank you for this anyway!" He waved and headed for an empty seat, making sure there was enough space for him and his legs before setting the tray down. Now, was the time to work. He whipped out his journal, standing tall as he checked the patients around him for a good target--victi-- interviewee. Spinning in a circle on one foot, he took the entire room in and found that most people were already talking. Well, it would be rude to interrupt their conversations so Jack flopped down into his seat and peered over the notes he'd spent all last period making. Mumbling to himself, he scribbled notes here and there in the margins. "Now, where in the world could they be? It's not fair to keep them away if they're here...especially that Triangl--Oh! Pyramid Head man. Honestly now..."

[open, I think? That or waiting for Ururu. |D;]

What a day. And what a night it ought to be, now that Robin had a plan. The plan was not to escape, but it was for something familiar and helpful at least. He'd be sure to have his 20 minute nap before heading out since he was still a little groggy. Thank heavens for the fine cuisine they served at Landel's, though!

Robin sat between two Orderlies, once he recognised as the chap who'd received a muffin to the eye and a chap he didn't know at all. The victim of his food throwing didn't seem at all happy, even when Robin tried to apologise and explain himself like a good sport. So he turned to the other fellow instead and quizzed him about the food on the plate. What it was, how it was prepared, where he could find it and so on. The Orderly had been reluctant to speak at first but Robin wore him down.

It was a good thing that Cid was completely used to a bunch of guys butt-naked in the same shower room, and he had his time in the air force to thank for that. What bugged him more than the public washing was the way it was carried out; he could dry his own fucking self, thank you very much, and the extra orderlies accompanying those who had joined the riot made the whole thing that much worse.

The pilot napped in the Sun Room after that, thinking and thinking more over what the hell he was going to do if he was stuck on his own. After all, he had no fucking clue if his new acquaintances were really going to help him, since, after all, they were a sociopathic ninja (who didn't seem that bad, all things considered) and a politician (the occupation equivalent of 'sociopathic ninja,' though the pilot part had earned him enough points for Cid to give him the benefit of the doubt).

Cid didn't think being overly optimistic was an especially good idea, but he always seemed to find himself doing it anyway.

The pilot's thoughts landed him in a long nap, and by the time the orderlies woke him up, he was already late to dinner. He grabbed a plate of barbecue (a step up from the high-class prick food, in his opinion), and sat down by himself before scarfing the stuff down.

Hitsugaya took a seat at another table close to Roy's and glanced back at Homura. "I'll talk with Roy about the idea of you joining us in our meetings in the future. I don't think he'll have a problem with it. Other than that, the efforts to take keys from the nurses at night was a success. We had one person skilled at lockpicking try to break into the nurse's station, which drew the attention of three nurses. They're fast and deadly. Don't try it unless you're sending your absolute best warriors...and don't let word get around too much. If the nurses find out that's what we're doing, they'll plan some other trap for us."

Homura had followed Hitsugaya and barely taken a seat before the captain started talking. The demi-god had to admit, at least to himself, that he liked the expedience, and even the bluntness of the words.

"I'll keep that in mind." Homura already knew the importance of keeping the task quiet; Kenshin would absolutely be against it if he knew. Others, on the other hand, would be eager to go at it to temporarily sate their desire for vengeance. "Is there anything else you can tell me? I'm afraid I don't have much new to offer. Last night was relatively routine."

Hitsugaya shook his head. "Due to the riot I wasn't able to get a report from my other teams. No news about reaching the basement yet, but I'm sending as many teams as I can down there tonight. If they're guarding it so tightly, there has to be something of importance down there."
