Day 27: Lunch

Renji wasn't so certain what this grilled cheese thing was all about, but he liked the sound of some soup. Even if it was strange western soup, well... there wasn't anything bad people could do to soup, in his experience. His good mood was starting to fray at the edges, a little, from the strain of dealing with the Ichimaru issue, and even more from what had been on the bulletin board earlier.

He'd never had difficulty simply writing something before. But...

He shook his head as he entered the line. He didn't want to think about it. He wanted to hold on to the tenuous equilibrium he'd managed to find.

Renji got himself a large bowl of soup, water, and even one of those sandwiches, just to try it. Old habit, recently awakened, had him over to one side of the cafeteria, where the fewest people possible would have the chance to pass behind him. He sat there with his back toward the wall and started eating.

[identity profile] teacupdeath.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)

The orderlies had woken him from a dead sleep. Both of them, this time. The drugs still in Riddick's system kept a good share of the pain in his side at bay... but as he found himself seated in the cafeteria he wasn't really sure how he'd gotten there. A tray of food sat waiting before him, and the only thing he could really think was... well, that he hadn't ever been given anything quite so completely mind-fucking as whatever Landel's used for sedatives. Cryosleep and the other things he'd been hit with over his less-than-moral life didn't even touch this shit. It was definitely much worse than whatever they did at the end of the night, as well as whatever had brought him here initially. At least he had been able to think after those...

He stared numbly at a spot on the table somewhere beyond his food. He'd think about eating when he felt less like he needed to hurl.

[identity profile] faithful-frost.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Haku had spent the rest of breakfast and much of the second shift under the heavy influence of medication and under close watch. The information he could glean from the rare moments when he was lucid enough to understand all pointed to the idea that the staff seemed to think he'd fallen/jumped/been pushed off the second floor balcony.

As if that were possible. He would have laughed...

By lunch however, he was feeling better and the nurse smiled and told him that he could go to lunch, but he must take it easy. He promised that he would and he was wheeled into the cafeteria.

He spotted Riddick right away, and pointed him out, asking, with the best smile he could muster, if he could sit with his new friend. He was brought to the table, given a bit of soup and juice, and left alone.

He frowned slightly and tilted his head. The man had been sedated. He wondered briefly why, then tried to get his attention.

"Sir? Riddick?"

Dad.

Even if the abrupt contraction across his stomach made him wanna hurl, the hunter, trained for better, managed to keep it in as his bare feet gradually lowered to the floor. Staring blankly at one corner of the ceiling, he just sat there staring; staring so hard he was lost in a lackadaisical paradise within seconds.

He didn't want a damn thing on his mind.

M38 became the prison cell it was intended to be, devoid of sound or feeling... The muteness and surrealism in opening his eyes, yet again, lying on that same bed, same room, hearing the same noises and same voices from down the corridor...

Dean snapped unpleasantly from the trance, resting his face in one hand.

They hadn't gotten anywhere last night. The man felt the urge to retch as he recalled the scar on his brother's arm, and the response he'd received upon questioning its origin. At this rate, he was a hindrance to the team with his unforgivably faulty memory. He flexed a fist, glower worsening when he rammed it into the mattress beside him; with ferocity only John's boys would find ordinary.

Next thing he knew, a plate of the regular crap was in front of him. That he gently nudged it aside instead of tossing the tray entirely, pitching it cleanly off the table edge, was something else.

Some patients went quietly their first day. Others struggled. Danielle was definitely one of the later, clearly sedated even as she tried to escape the orderly's firm arms.

A female nurse was leading them, and seeing the empty spot next to Jack, decided that that was as good of a place for Danielle as any. She directed the man with her to place Danielle gently in the seat across from Jack, looking at the coherent patient.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Patterson." The nurse motioned to Danielle. "This young lady is Ms. Frenier, and she's having some trouble coping with her new environment. Please do your best to help her with that, would you?"

Patient socialization should be encouraged, after all. With a nod to her coworker, the two headed back to their jobs, leaving Danielle and Jack to get to know each other.

Jack wandered into lunch, serving himself a generous helping of sandwiches and a bowl of soup. He hadn't been hungry at breakfast and now it was catching up to him, though given how many people he suspected wanted to beat him into the ground, he probably shouldn't have been. However, he was more than used to people wanting him dead and really, none of the patients here could rival some of the people he had already escaped from in his old existence outside of Landels.

Though he would need to give these people a run around they'd not soon forget. It's the least he could do for all the unwarrented crap he was getting. At least then he'd feel more justification for having his ass handed to him. Scheming, he bit into his sandwich and waited for hopefully friendly company.

[identity profile] rabbitprince314.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
And friendly company he received as Kougaiji unceremoniously parked his ass on the chair opposite John. The trip from sun room to the cafeteria wasn't long but enough to make him hurt like all hell. Twitching brows, mouth a tight line of unforgiving lips, he curled his fingers around the edge of the table to will away the pain.

"You okay?" he asked as the first thing, still staring at his fingers.

The nurse who had been escorting him was fetching him some food. He didn't care what would it be. He'd have to eat but it didn't matter whatever it was he shoved down his throat.

Fox made his way to lunch, a bit more enthusiastic about eating now than he had been at breakfast. The shift between breakfast and lunch had been spent relaxing.

Between grilled cheese and the salad bar, the salad bar won out. He remembered Lyta's comment about Landels trying to make all the patients fat with the food they were serving.

At least he had seen Otacon, and knew the engineer was alright.

[identity profile] bara-no-shinrou.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[looking for Hitsugaya]

Well, that had been a waste of time; exactly as she had predicted, actually. Of course, being stuck in a room to talk with other patients while being listened to by the enemy wasn't too hard of a situation to call. That was done with, though... now, for something important. She'd been anticipating her meeting with Hitsugaya all day, if for no other reason than the desire to know why someone was organizing a needlepoint club, or whatever they were doing. Then again, he had mentioned that they were writing in code... hm. Oh well... he'd explain it when he got there.

Utena grabbed herself a small tray of food, and found a seat near the door; the better to spot Hitsugaya upon his entrance, after all. All she had to go on was his word that he looked ten, and the impression that he acted like a senior citizen... not a whole lot, all things considered.

[identity profile] whiteychan.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hitsugaya didn't bother getting food as he entered. He was hungry, but at the first sight of the gooey cheese sandwiches, he felt nauseous again. Still, it was probably for the best, with all the work that needed to be done during lunch. First was his agreement to meet with this Utena individual. Then he had to hunt down Roy and meet with him as planned. Both were hopefully going to be brief.

With all the other details as well as the problems last night running through his head, he couldn't recall if Utena had given him a description of her. His best bet at the moment was to stand near the door and scan the room for someone who seemed to be doing the same.

The advantage was that he was particularly easy to spot. There was one other white haired person of a similar stature to his own, but he didn't have green eyes as vibrant as the captain's. Even still, the other boy looked to be considerably older than 13.

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, Naminé wished that she didn't read the bulletin board. It was often easier on her nerves when she didn't, but she often did anyway for the sake of gathering information. There was a wealth of knowledge to be gained from it. For example, she learned that there were more new people, a basement, and someone who could craft weaponry (Naminé especially made sure to remember the last bit).

And then there was Xemnas, requesting a map, and everyone else telling him that he could get said map from her. Naminé had done a good job of avoiding the Superior, knowing that this place was large and crowded enough that she could probably avoid him indefinitely, but now that he was actually looking for her...

To make things worse, the cafeteria was rather empty when she walked in. If Xemnas saw her now, he would have no problem actually getting to her. Still, it wasn't enough for her to try and sit with the few others in this room: This was her problem, she shouldn't involve other people in it.

Obviously, her nerves made her appetite vanish. Naminé had food, but she was staring at it listlessly.

She knew that Larxene would definitely have pointed Xemnas in her direction sooner or later... but why did everyone else ask him to come to her? She wasn't the only person with a map and certainly probably didn't have the most complete map. She hadn't even visited a new area since she visited the Greenhouse!

Well, at least, the sooner she saw him, the better. Naminé even started glumly sketching a map for him - at least, when he came, she'd have what Xemnas wanted and maybe he'd leave her alone for the rest of their stay.

Maybe.

[identity profile] bond-off-lame.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Fortunately for Naminé, there were others that were keen on preventing that from occurring, namely the lanky redheaded individual that was now making a beeline right towards her. However, his nurse forcibly coaxed him into to the direction of the line before he could even reach her table.

Resisting was all but futile, but Axel was quick to dump everything haphazardly on his plate, hardly noticing that the scalding broth of the soup had soaked his hand when some of it spilt over the bowl's edge. Instead, he kept both eyes planted on the blonde who sat closeby, dashing almost wildly towards her once he was free of his nurse's supervision.

As usual, the redhead dumped his tray on the table, but instead of sitting across from Naminé he inched over to the seat next to her, almost as if he was using his body to shield her from anything (and anyone) that dared to come by. Green eyes glared across the whole span of the Cafeteria before he finally relaxed and sneaked the blonde a small grin.

"Hey there, stranger."

Ah, lunch. Mousse had been anticipating it, to some extent, ever since Byakko mentioned it. He was curious as to the nature of the meals and their quality, even with the assurance that they were of decent quality. He glared at his nurse as she led him into and explained the procedure, feeling quite annoyed that she was somehow involved with holding him cative and there was really nothing he could do to escape.

At the moment, anyhow.

Sandwiches weren't really his thing, so he instead took a bowl of soup and a glass of water. He'd start out small and if he found the food to his liking, he could always go back and get a second helping. Meandering around the tables, he took a seat at an empty table and wondered what the NEXT shift would bring.

[identity profile] son-ofkrypton.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Clark found himself worrying a lot more than usual. What had happened on that bulletin board? He knew what he saw, but he still didn't know what to make of it. Someone out there knew his whole secret and had just bragged about it on there like it didn't even matter. Was it Artemis? He didn't think so, but he couldn't be sure; it wasn't like he really knew much about the kid other than that he was smart. That didn't necessarily equal trustworthy.

The teenager didn't even register his nurse putting the helpings of grilled cheese sandwich and french fries on his plate: he actually liked both, but they didn't taste like anything when he was this worried. Somehow he had to find out why that message was posted and how that person knew what they did - and, after getting out of here, warning his parents. They had to know about this. Maybe he'd been keeping secrets that he shouldn't have; this wasn't one of them. They had to know.

Looking up, Clark finally noticed that another "patient" was sitting across from him...and that he had the longest hair that Clark had seen on a guy. Is this the guy on the bulletin board? Clark couldn't help wondering suspiciously. It could be anyone.

No way to find out but to actually talk to the other boy.

"Hey," Clark said. "Are you new too?"

That seemed safe enough to ask.

Rufus Shinra stifled a yawn as he headed into the cafeteria. After being down for a day and some, getting back into the schedule wasn't as easy as one might have thought. The more Reno told him, the more out of touch he felt. Still, it was amazing what the Turk had done in a single day.

Maybe he wouldn't charge Reno for his flashlight's destruction when they got home. Heh, who was he kidding? Of course he would. And then hang the bill on his wall.

Taking a seat after getting what was passing as food, Rufus poked at it without much interest. His stomache gave a low, pained sound to remind him just how it had been being sick here. Maybe taking it easy was the best idea.

[identity profile] bigshotbarret.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Barret was surely hoping that perhaps some food would ease his troubled mind. Cloud was right in the sense he just shouldn't let it bother him. That's how the opposition won. Then again, Shin-Ra wasn't the opposition this time. Made him wonder if Rufus truly meant it or he was trying to break down his sanity. Either case, seeing Rufus brought back that discomfort. However, this time, he was going to face it head on.

With his tray of grilled cheese and cole slaw, he took a seat in front of the President, quietly starting in on his sandwich as he stared squarely at him with a slight glare. Bastard.

[waiting for Obi-Wan, I do believe!]

How long had it been?

Elena wandered into the cafeteria, looking rather pale and dull-eyed. She didn't think that any childish ailment she'd ever had to suffer through could even begin to compare with the misery she had endured over the past...however long it was.

Maybe a day, maybe two. It felt longer. At any rate, her she was in position to eat anything grilled or fried or even remotely greasy, but the soup seemed manageable.

Hopefully.

His time in the sun room had been extremely unproductive and useless. But it wasn't until Obi-Wan arrived in the lunch room and swept his gaze around the area that he realized his efforts had been more or less vain. Qui-Gon was sitting at a table with one of the new faces that had started cropping up today. It was irritating to think he'd chosen the wrong room earlier, but at least the Jedi Master was all right, and that was something to be grateful for.

Not that he'd been worried. Certainly not. Jedi Masters were more than capable of taking care of themselves.

He went through the line as quickly as he could, which was a little difficult considering how many people were here these days. It was a little disheartening to think about, but he couldn't deny the steady stream of people that seemed to appear in this place. The Jedi barely paid attention to the strange, exotic food as the nurse put some on his tray. It was (probably) edible, so he decided to worry less over what mess they'd given him to eat and more over where to sit.

There was Qui-Gon, of course, but he seemed busy talking to someone. And then his gaze fell upon a pale, dull-eyed face, and the misery she was radiating couldn't be ignored. He recognized the girl as Elena, a prisoner he'd spoken with the other day. But something seemed wrong today.

Frowning to himself, he decided to make his way over to her, stopping behind the chair in front of her. "Do you mind if I sit here?" he asked gently.

Sephiroth mentally cursed that man that had damaged his leg the other night for about the two hundredth time. While he was capable of walking, pain sparked with each step even now and his gait was slowed by a limp. If he ever got the chance, he was taking out that man's other eye. Slowly. Precisely. Then braiding the optic nerve and making sure the redhead got it as a present.

Easing himself into a seat, Sephiroth wasn't interested much in eating, doing so mechanically for need versus pleasure. His strange eyes moved over the crowd, picking out the few he knew and passing over those he did not. Humans. They all looked the same to him after awhile. Lost in his own thoughts for the time being, it looked as if he had no plans to start any chaos just yet.

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh, this place was really crowded, or so it seemed. Danny could never seem to find a seat during mealtimes, always grabbing spares ones situated between people, squished in between trays and talk. Today, it seemed one of the few open spaces left at the moment was across from a guy with long silver hair. For the first time today, he had met someone who wasn't blond.

Placing his tray down, he peered over at the other. He seemed to be eating mechanically, in a rhythmic motion. Danny took a seat in front of his tray, haphazardly poking at the grilled cheese. Food seemed decent enough here, but it looked just like what they served in school. Man, Spectra was good at this psychomolology thing, torturing him with school-ish things.

He guardedly began eating the grilled cheese sandwich, practically staring at the silver-haired guy. If he didn't make a move to speak first, then it was just going to have to be Danny's. And maybe, just maybe, this one had more information than Faust or Fai.

Wesker was already forming his plans for what to do tonight. He would take Birkin and Krauser with him for certain, Birkin would be useful when it came time to do what he actually wanted to accomplish, and Krauser for his talents when it came to fighting.

It would probably be safer and better for Claire if she were to find someone else to travel with tonight. He would need to tell her that, too, but first he wanted to make sure everything went smoothly with Krauser and William.

Wesker decided to stay away from the grilled cheese, and unfortunately had to settle for a salad. Hopefully there would be meat for dinner.

[identity profile] g-resolution.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
William wasn't entirely positive lunch was something to look forward to at the moment. The food was nothing of interest, but Wesker's announcement had stirred up enough curiosity in the scientist to prevent him from distracting the nurse and arriving at his leisure as he normally would have. Hopefully this would not be about this coming night and who was to escort him, the subject was getting old.

You'll like what I'll have to say.

Wesker wasn't usually on to disappoint, whatever they were to speak of would at least hold some value. Letting his nurse walk off in pursuit to gather nourishment, William caught sight of the man and walked over to the table.

Very little dulled the spirits of one Rabastan Lestrange. Bouncing happily thought the crowd, his 5'2 form gave him an advantage in slipping past all these taller people. There were benefits to being vertically challenged.

Now if he could only find Kitty-Yazoo, life would be good.

"Kitty!"

No one had ever bothered to inform Bast that yelling for someone wasn't the best of ideas. Loading up his plate with french fries, slathering them with ketchup and vinegar (as well as salt) he plunked down at a table and waited cheerfully for today's new victim friend.

[identity profile] undesirableone.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)

Harry entered the lunch room feeling even more confused than when he had woken up. He went to the line but wasn't very hungry when the sound of someone yelling distracted him.

His eyes narrowed behind his glasses at the person that looked... familiar.

"You!" he called after Lestrange, before he realised that probably wasn't the best idea. He didn't have his wand, but he couldn't just let a Death Eater (one that had been close to Bellatrix and had helped torture Neville's parents) wander around without saying something. Come to think of it 'you' probably wasn't the best thing to say either. At least his mind had finally snapped out of the slump he had been in since waking up in a weird hospital. The sight of Bellatrix's brother-in-law was enough to send trickles of anger back into his brain.

He couldn't remember what happened to Lestrange or his brother, but now at least he knew where to find one Death Eater.

Hellmaster drifted into lunch with a happy spirit. Sure, he didn't know how to USE the talisman, but he had managed to procure that lovely fuda from Seishirou that was so nicely crafty in blood. If nothing else, it could serve as a pick-me-up in darker moments. Grabbing a bit of everything, the Mazoku Lord pulled up a chair and began eating his french fries.

Hm. Not as sweet as pancakes, but not as salty as tatertots. Not too bad, then...

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Lunch, finally. And as eager as Zelgadis seemed to leave him behind, Xelloss calmly went into the lunch line and feigned slightly hurt feelings that Zelgadis seemed to dread his company so.

Food obtained as normal, with the soup, sandwich and salad combination a dining choice he'd observed other humans enjoying even back home. He calmly walked over to the young man sitting at one of the tables, placing his own tray down and beaming at him. "Hello again! Do you mind if I take this seat?"

He didn't see Zelgadis nearby. That was good.

[if Renji has plans, I'll gladly delete.]

All too soon, the shift was over and the nurses came to separate the newly reunited siblings. Keman satisfied his frustration by muttering creative curses at his nurse. She satisfied her annoyance by chiding him for babbling in that "made up language" of his.

The cafeteria smelled good, at least. Valyn's apology and Shana's arrival had made the young dragon forget his empty stomach, but now that he was alone, it came back with a vengeance. He piled his plate little bit of everything (except for the "cole slaw," which smelled...odd), and went to look for a place where he could make sure that he'd be able to spot his sister and the elf as soon as they arrived.

As it turned out, Renji was sitting nearby.

Keman greeted the red haired, oddly marked human with a warm smile.

"Hello! You're looking quite a bit better than you did last night."

The intercom announcements of lunch came with happy thoughts as far as Seishirou was concerned. He was hungry and this place had offered the most excellent menu until now, he didn't expect it to disappointment this time either.

Whistling softly under his breath, he gathered a bit of this and a bit of that to his tray - he wanted to try everything of course. And then headed towards one of the tables, hoping to catch a glimmer of Xelloss or perhaps Kikyo. Either would provide him with amusing conversation to say the least.

And what more could a man want?

[identity profile] broken-babylon.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Subaru protested when the nurse pulled him away from Hokuto, but when she explained she was taking him to the cafeteria for lunch he figured he could find Hokuto again anyway and let her lead him away.

The chicken soup smelled good, but Subaru reluctantly decided that, with his powers as weak as they were, he just couldn't risk making them even weaker by eating meat. Milk, cheese and eggs had always been okay, though, so Subaru took a sandwich before hitting the salad bar. Reasonably content with his selections, Subaru turned to look for somewhere to sit, and for Hokuto.

But as he scanned the cafeteria, he found someone else, instead. His tray hit the floor with a crash as it dropped from hands suddenly numb with shock. He was here! After more than a year of searching fruitlessly, Subaru had finally found Seishirou, in this insane place. Images, memories, flashed through his mind in rapid succession--a cherry tree, blood and the dead body of a child, Hokuto, in his robes, drenched in blood as she died by Seishirou's hand... Hokuto, alive again, in this place, and he was here. He could hurt her again!

Red washed over Subaru's vision, and with a hoarse scream of grief and anger, he threw himself at Seishirou, fingers curled into claws. He might not have his powers, but he could still strangle the man with his bare hands, damn it.

Ken sighed as he was once more pulled away from one of his friends to go eat some strange food. The nurse collected him a plate again, this time he made sure to ask for specific things (stuff from the salad bar, a bowl of soup, tea.) He didn't feel like eating a sandwich made of grease and cheese. She also placed a small plastic cup on the tray--more pills, great.

Ken sank down in his seat with a groan and closed his eyes against the bright light of the cafeteria. He hadn't seen Aya at all last shift, either, though there had been Arts and Crafts. Who knew, maybe Aya had gone in there.

[identity profile] seiran314.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No, Aya had gone to therapy, which thrilled him to no end. Sitting around with two other just as thrilled 'patients' and a smiling nurse had made him even happier than this morning waking up with new aching injuries and not a drop of coffee.

In cafeteria, he glanced around quickly and after spotting Ken made his way across the serving counter as fast as he could with some food thrown on his tray and then pulled himself a chair opposite his teammate.

"Are you okay?" he asked right away, even before sitting down. It didn't seem like Ken was in a world of pain, but some injuries were quite impossible detect just like that.

HK sat down at the lunch table, still breathing a little raggedly. His lungs were healing, but nowhere near as fast as he thought they should.

And he was supposed to meet someone today, wasn't he? It would be embarrasing if they turned up and he couldn't properly irritate them.

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-27 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though SubZero hadn't been on the receiving end of the back massage that had just happened, he was still in a relatively good mood, and more than willing to bother HK.

He made his way over to HK with a few grilled cheese sandwiches on his plate. HK looked horrible, and he didn't look like he was breathing very well.

One of the last things Kain wanted was to eat. At this time of day, normally, he would've been deeply asleep: His body was telling him it wasn't hungry, but could he please find a bed? Still, if this was going to be the schedule, he had to adapt as soon as possible, so he picked up a bowl of the soup and a drink before sitting down near the doors.

Inevitably he thought about the conversation he had with the Captain about different dimensions. Kain looked from person to person, curious. Everyone had completely experiences then, different histories and lives. The why of bringing people here -- especially if it came with dangers like rifts -- remained in the dark, but it wasn't something he could ever guess at.

It did make him relieved, in a way. If there were infinite time-lines and dimensions, then the chances that someone from home would arrive here were pretty slim.

(If you're waiting for someone else I can delete.) :)

Daemon eyed the sandwich he'd gotten a bit dubiously. They had such strange food in this place, most of which he'd never heard of. At least the soup looked familiar, like something he might find at home in Beale's kitchen. When the wolves weren't stealing her chickens, at any rate.

Glancing around for an empty seat, he spotted a young man sitting alone and slowly approached, pausing at his side and the empty seat there.

"Is this seat taken?" he inquired, tone polite, golden eyes calm as he glanced at the young man already seated there.

And what... was this shit?

Sanji didn't like being dragged away from Usopp, especially not when the sniper had just been describing the contacts he and Luffy had made so far (ninja what?). If he hadn't seen the results of someone else's struggle previously, he would have made an attempt to fight his way out of the nurse's clutches.

And he was beginning to feel gipped on top of this. Why was it that everyone else seemed to get a female nurse? He didn't need to hear all this comforting cooing from the mouth of another guy.

But this food... this food just took the cake. He would have to ask oh so nicely if he couldn't perhaps help prepare the food himself next time. He wasn't about to waste anything, but he did his damndest to turn his meal into something more palatable - at least in appearance.

[identity profile] usoppsenchou.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sandwiches! With.. just cheese, but that was okay. Kind of heavy. He got a salad on the side to balance out all the grease, and was craning his neck to look around the cafeteria when he saw tell-tale blond hair and hurried over, grinning.

His grin faltered a bit when he saw Sanji's expression. The guy looked like he'd just been poisoned. Usopp had always thought the food around here was pretty good, even though it didn't compare to their own chef. But he hadn't considered how Sanji might consider it an insult to his own skills.

"Sanji, you're not gonna be sick or anything, right?" were Usopp's first caring words as he sat down beside his crewmate without asking, or even thinking of asking, leave.

MOMO still wasn't feeling all that hungry by lunchtime, but she knew she needed to eat something. While she was still uneasy about the whole Special Counseling incident (even if those she had spoken to had assured her they held no grudges) it had also made her more determined to learn about the facility they were held within. In order to do that, she needed to go out again once night fell. And, if she hoped to accomplish anything then, she needed to make sure she kept her strength up. Skipping meals wasn't likely to do that, so she opted for a bowl of soup and a cup of juice for her lunch.

She failed to see anyone she readily recognized after glancing around the cafeteria, so she opted to sit alone for the time being. So, being careful not to let the soups broth spill over the edge of the bowl, the realian carried the tray to a vacant table and sat down.

Sora had gotten a little discouraged when he couldn't find MOMO during the second shift. He wanted to make sure she wasn't beating herself up too much over what had happened, and he counted himself at being pretty good at cheering people up. Then again, he hadn't done a very good job with Renji, but...

Well, generally he wasn't so bad at it!

The first thing he did upon entering the cafeteria was look for her again. Luckily, there weren't too many girls who had pink hair, and it wasn't long before he spotted her. He almost headed straight for her, but he knew that he needed food--not to mention those grilled cheese sandwiches smelled really good. He threw a sandwich and some french fries on a plate and then headed over to MOMO's table, forcing himself not to limp as he walked. She must have known she had injured him, but he didn't need to make it obvious.

"Hey!" he greeted her as he took the seat across from her. "I'm Sora," he explained, not certain she would remember him. He didn't know how clear the memories were.

Leon had actually been about to stare blankly back at Claude. My book, dummy. The journal I carried around all yesterday? But their conversation was interrupted by nosy nurses ushering them off to lunch. Not together, of course. They seemed to think that Leon wasn't hanging around enough "kids his age." And of course this was because he wasn't even attempting to.

The sandwich he was given seemed rather plain and unappealing, but he hadn't eaten too much over breakfast and crying made him hungry, so he started munching on it anyway. It tasted only slightly better than it looked.

[identity profile] for-marian.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The food being offered this time wasn't as familiar as some of the other meals here had been, so Leon grudgingly allowed the nurse to make selections for him, as though he were a child. It was annoying and a bit embarrassing, but such minor slights were already beginning to seem unimportant, in light of the greater wrongs of this place.

Once again, the nurse guided him to a seat with a boy who appeared to be slightly younger than he was. "Daniel, this is Miguel. He's had a rough time here, so we're trying to introduce him to some other patients closer to his age. Hopefully if he makes friends, they'll help keep him from going and hurting himself again!" Leon stared at the woman incredulously, as she spoke about him like he wasn't right there, perfectly capable of hearing her insulting little speech. He managed to keep his silence, though, in the hope that she would go away if he "behaved."

She shouldn't have felt as good as she did when the nurse escorted her into the cafeteria, but it really did make her feel happy to know that Allen and Ravi were here. While she hadn't seen Ravi, Allen's word was more than enough. The meal didn't look all that bad, either. An assortment of food very similar to what they might have served at the mess hall of the black order was before her in line. She took a sandwich and some soup, then took a small plate of salad with a modest helping of dressing, then found a table by herself to sit.

With Allen and Ravi here, there was no reason to despair. They'd get out and find their way back to their place and time somehow...and if they didn't, then they'd still be ok. She was worried about her friends back home, especially Komui, but Komui was smart and strong. He'd find them once they escaped, somehow.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2007-09-26 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Allen had to admit he was feeling much better than he'd been this morning. He'd have to apologize properly to Rukia and Miss Bridget later for the trouble he'd caused them. Maybe he could draw them a nice picture, like the one Rukia had done for him.

It was somewhat surprising that Rhode had let him and Rinali talk for a little while. She'd surprised him a lot since her arrival, but that didn't mean he trusted her with the others. He filled his tray, but not near as much as he usually ate. He was still a little shaky, but Rukia was probably right. It would help if he did eat something.

He hurried to the table when he saw Rinali across the room. She was by herself, which was a good start. He wouldn't have to worry about Rhode just yet. And with any luck Ravi would come too.

"Hi," he said, with only slight hesitation as he sat, giving Rinali a smile. "Sorry ah-... about earlier."

Brock looked at the big, fat, All-American grilled cheese sandwhich on his plate and actually did turn slightly green this time. His stomach churned uncomfortably, stuck between starving and nauseated. He knew he needed to keep eating to take in fuel and replace the calories he was burning up to heal, but after last night, after getting used as a human punching bag, he wasn't sure if he had it in him to actually eat much. The thought alone made him feel sick.

And maybe it wasn't just the human punching bag part that was making him lose his appetite. It'd been hours since he woke up. He still didn't feel any different: just stiff, sore in places he had no right to be sore, and pretty much all-human.

He had to force himself to take a bite of the grilled cheese. It was pretty damn good, all things considered, but he still had to fight to keep it down. How long would it take to go back to normal? Was there anything he could do to speed up the healing process?

Scar wasn't quite sure what to make of the food around here.

After leaving the arts and crafts room, he had stumbled back to the eating area only to be given his food; something apparently called a 'cheese sandwich' (not that the name told him anything) and a bowl of...liquid with something in that the ex-lion could only identify as 'strings'. How much he'd give for a regular zebra...

The nurse had assisted in carrying his plate (Scar would drop it on the floor if she didn't, as he didn't quite have the hang of holding items), and after he had finally taken a seat the female finally left him to his devices.

Staring at the alien food in front of his nose, Scar would have appreciated if someone had bothered telling them how to eat these things.

He was so busy staring at his meal that he failed to notice the patient sitting across him. Even natural predators could be distracted, it seemed.

Valyn was almost relieved to see that Keman had approached Renji on his own. Shana was sure to follow and stay close to her foster-brother. Valyn would be able to have a bit of peace and work things out in his mind without being disturbed.

He was once again wheeled to a table and left with some sort of mush to be ingested through a tube. He honestly didn't care at this point, the day was already making him feel tired.

Shana. Ancestors be damned, Shana had shown up. And he knew Keman would tell her the details of what had happened the night before, much as Valyn wished to keep them to as few people as possible.

Maybe he'd be able to get some much needed sleep tonight....

Max wasn't very hungry, not after a big breakfast of pancakes, but she grabbed a plate-full of fries all the same. Turning to find a place to sit, she spotted a familiar face, although considerably more bandaged then she'd last seen it.

Frowning slightly, Max moved in that direction, hiding her worry for the elf with a cheerful smile as she sat down beside him. "Nice wheels," she commented, inclining her head at his wheelchair. "I should find me one of those and we can go racing down the hallways. The Landels 5000. What do you say?"

[Waiting for Fai, but open for anybody who might have a motive/reason for joining them.]

A grilled cheese sandwich, even a big one, wasn’t what Raven would’ve preferred for lunch, but it would have to do. Why couldn’t they serve something healthier? Or at least given them some tea. Yes, herbal tea would’ve been very nice.

Amazingly enough she actually had plans for lunch that consisted of more than just sitting alone in the back. In her message exchange with Fai, she had agreed to answer his questions and tell him what she could about the wonderful Landel’s Institute. Similar to what she had done with Kyon, but with all the conveniences of lunch, if any.

Though she already stood out enough, Raven sat closer to the front (a first since arriving) so that it would be even easier for him to find her.

Lunchtime! Everything smelled pretty good too. He'd been a little skeptical when he found out how many Japanese people were living here. He'd hate to have to eat that sushi stuff again. Or try eating with those weird sticks! That was the worst. But this all looked pretty good. Soup and sandwiches! Better than a lot of the travel food he'd encountered.

Fai picked up a tray, then filled it with a bowl of soup, a cheese sandwich, and a glass of juice. No familiar faces here though. No Syaoran... No Princess... Not even a Kuro or a Moko. Scratch that. There was one person he recognized. Seishirou.

It was hard to forget a person who had tried to kill you. But this one was different. He looked older... and his magic didn't feel the same. It had to be one of the other versions. No use getting upset with him over something he hadn't done.

He finally spotted a girl that matched the description from the board and sat down, a friendly smile on his face. "Hello! Is it... Raven? Fai D. Flourite, nice to meet you!"
