Day 27: Lunch

Renji wasn't so certain what this grilled cheese thing was all about, but he liked the sound of some soup. Even if it was strange western soup, well... there wasn't anything bad people could do to soup, in his experience. His good mood was starting to fray at the edges, a little, from the strain of dealing with the Ichimaru issue, and even more from what had been on the bulletin board earlier.

He'd never had difficulty simply writing something before. But...

He shook his head as he entered the line. He didn't want to think about it. He wanted to hold on to the tenuous equilibrium he'd managed to find.

Renji got himself a large bowl of soup, water, and even one of those sandwiches, just to try it. Old habit, recently awakened, had him over to one side of the cafeteria, where the fewest people possible would have the chance to pass behind him. He sat there with his back toward the wall and started eating.

HK glared at SubZero before resettling into his detached neutral expression, his voice still as full of irritation at the general state of the universe as it ever was. "Sarcasm: Oh, no, it's been fine, meatbag, just fine. Apart from the burns and the short circuits in my nervous system and the--"

The choked off statement was illustrated well enough by a coughing fit that forced him to bring one of the paper napkins to his mouth to catch the blood that was expelled from his lungs. He then looked up, the latticework of burns standing out more dramatically on skin that had gone pale.

"Exasperation: Of course it hasn't been good, meatbag!"

"If you would calm down you probably wouldn't cough as much," SubZero offered, picking up his grilled cheese sandwich and taking a bite out of it.

HK really did not look good at all with all those burns on his skin. "But I'm glad to see that you're feeling well enough to be sarcastic," That comment was sarcastic, but he was glad HK was getting better. Otherwise he would have to leave him behind when night shift came and find someone less deadly to run around with.

"Statement: My physical state has very little to do with how much sarcasm I dispense. As long as I am capable of communication, there will be sarcasm." HK made a small sound of annoyance, wiping away a little more blood from the corner of his mouth. "Irritation: At least when I was a droid, electrical damage could be easily repaired..." He was more muttering to himself than talking to the meatbag.

SubZero scowled at HK. It was once again back to the same old.

"I'm sure if we tried hard enough, we could find a physical state where you don't want to be sarcastic anymore," It was a threat, yes, but one that SubZero wasn't likely to follow through with himself. But he would be momentarily happy if, say, one of the night-shift monsters were to render HK incapable of sarcasm.

HK only just managed to keep an insane grin off his face. "Query: Do you want to try and test that theory here, meatbag? I'd be interested in finding out the results myself!" Yes, I'd be so interested in finding out how quickly you would be sedated, meatbag!

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-27 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you're that interested in it, I'm sure you can wait a few hours till night," SubZero said, scowling.

He really wanted to hit HK, but he did not want to be sedated again.

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2007-09-27 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Statement: I was more hoping to see you sedated again. Unfortunately, I would estimate I lose the capacity for violence at approximately the same time as the ability to be sarcastic. And violence is more important than sarcasm." Nothing was more important than violence!

"Irritation: And at the moment, I am not at full capacity for destruction. I'd rather focus on returning to 100% functionality as soon as possible." He was more fond of the idea of driving this meatbag insane, rather than just killing him immediately.

While HK wouldn't admit it, that was about as close as he got to considering someone a friend.

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. The sooner you're back to 'full capacity' the better. I don't want you slowing me down again tonight," SubZero hadn't really been actually slowed down by HK. The night's productiveness had come to a halt with all the injuries last night caused by the girl.

Still, that didn't mean he couldn't blame it on HK.

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Incredulous: Slowing you down? Meatbag, you can barely make it a few strides before you cause a minor catastrophe by accident. Or trying to do something lecherous to me. Sarcasm: Is that what you mean, meatbag? I'm afraid that's not my fault." HK was extremely irritated that the very same meatbag who had broken up the enjoyable attention to his sore muscles had just given another meatbag the exact same treatment. And he hadn't even gone over and 'not-sulked' at SubZero!

Although, he was doing a very good 'not-sulk' right now.

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't caused any 'minor catastrophe's by accident. And I haven't done anything lecherous to you! Unless by 'lecherous' you mean 'administer first aid' or 'carry to safety'," SubZero had been raising his voice slightly and forced himself to calm down, scowling at SubZero.

"You're just upset because that creep that was trying to molest you yesterday hasn't come back around for another try."

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rhetorical: Do you know what that 'creep' called you?" HK snickered slightly before adopting Jack Harkness' voice "Quote: 'Mr. Cop-a-feel'." It was difficult to totally imitate another's voice at the moment, but he could still do it quite convincingly. He switched back to his normal tone. "Irritation: And if that was an attempt at molestation, then what were you doing last shift, meatbag?"

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lust was sore, I was helping her out. I didn't have any ulterior motives." Well, he didn't have many ulterior motives. Certainly, he didn't have as many as that creep had had.

And he didn't appreciate being called Mr. Cop-a-feel. He hadn't done that at all!

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sarcasm: Of course not, meatbag. Irritation: That's quite a feeble lie, meatbag. It's quite easy to discern things about thought process from body language, you know." Which was why his body language usually was stuck on the 'cardboard' setting. Meatbags could be so confused by it.

[identity profile] icy-demise.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Alright, so I enjoyed giving her the massage. But it wasn't like I was planning on doing anything with her at night. I don't mix business and pleasure," And night time was strictly business time as far as SubZero was concerned, even though for HK business and pleasure were probably the same activity.

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Agreement: No, it seems that business never gets a chance to have a say, really..." HK was tired of speaking. It hurt and he just wanted to kill something.
