Night 37: Main Hall 2-West

[from here]

Coming to a cross hallway, Falis stopped and knelt down again. In the darkness, she couldn't see where the hallway lead, nothing more than a few feet immediately in front of her. Unbeknown to her, the stairs she needed to go down to the first level were just to the right. Falis had the same feeling as she had back at that dead end, so she didn't think there was anything down that hallway.

Seeing some very faint light to the left, the hunter headed that way. Once she found light, she could get her bearings.

Oddly, there was no one up here, though it was still early in the night. Wesker glanced around the hall while he was at the top of the stairs to be sure there were no monsters lying in wait, and continued on his way.

No one out yet. Gin was glad to be clear of the crowding downstairs, but being the first in new places also meant being the first target. He slowed only slightly as he walked up the stairs, finally taking out his flashlight to scan the hall before he continued on.

Okay, second floor now. Not much farther. Haku paused, listening for anything out of place while remembering his maps. He didn't know which room Artemis was in, but he did know that he would search them all if need be. He was running on instinct now, Zabuza-san's ocntinued disappearence throwing him off slightly. He was aware that he needed to calm down before rushing on, but he couldn't seem to...

"Hey, Haku!" Schuldig called, before he was even within arm's length of the boy. The ninja was so wrapped up in his teenage angst that surprising him at short range would've probably either sent Haku out of his skin or lashing out with a knife; it just seemed more prudent to do it from a little distance away.

The container was heavy, though not as much as it was the night before. She could move with it, especially with there being not as much glass in there as before. She started to head down the stairs, then stopped, overwhelmed by that familiar feeling again. What was...?

Then it came to her. It felt like Yukari. But... not. Frowning, she tried to tell where it was coming from. This way?

Leon reached the top of the stairs and paused, looking around. There were only a few others here, mostly just passing through. He leaned against the wall, mostly in the shadows, and tried to think of where to go next. Back to the janitor's closet? He hadn't gotten to properly search the area last time. He was pretty sure he remembered where it was...

"You've been up here before. I need cleaning products, tools and stationary cupboards." He had a vague idea where the janitors cupboard was. He needed the storage cupboard too and maybe an office.

"Yeah, I know how that is." He was around Mogi a lot, after all; another quiet guy whose expression hardly ever changed. Kinda like Rude, except minus the awesome sunglasses. Still, for knowing the other guy, Elena was pretty nice. Pretty nice, and standing pretty close to him, and...was she flirting with him? He could get used to that.

"Sometimes. Fallen off a few buildings, chased a few criminals down. Usually ended up being pretty fun." After getting over the initial terror of oh god, I'm gonna die, of course. It wasn't so much that he liked to live dangerously as that he liked life and wanted to have fun, but he didn't want to leave it too early. "Just so long as it's not the same old thing every day, you know?"

He looked over at Rude when the guy spoke up. "Oh, um...I didn't really go anywhere past the hall where they do the experiments. I think I've heard people mention a janitor's closet, though, so maybe there. The experiment hall isn't that far from here, so maybe the other end of the building?" Then Matsuda turned back to Elena and tried to do his best imitation of Rude's wonderfully non-expressive face, followed up by a whispered, "Does he get out much back home?"

Pragmatically, perhaps it was better that Tsubaki led them out onto the second floor if Superboy didn‘t know where they were going anymore than she did. She still had to hope he wasn’t going to start messing with her a second time, though.

Taking a left once in the hallway, she shone her flashlight around cautiously before turning it off and slipping it back inside the bag. The therapy corridor was supposed to only be one over from their current position; she felt a little bit safer if she kept one hand free and relied less on the light the flashlights provided.

As for her uniform, she wasn’t sure ‘amazing’ was the word she’d use… The details of how she’d gotten her clothes back were something she didn’t have a clue about, however. “I don’t know, it was in my closet by the time I was brought to dinner. The nurses didn’t say anything about it. Some other people seem to have their clothes back, too, but I’m not sure why.” She looked back, debating whether to ask her own question or not. “Do you mind… is ‘Superboy’ your name or your title?”
Edited 2008-12-12 05:28 (UTC)

[identity profile] gottabetactile.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Superboy is my name, why do you ask?" It was a strange question, Superboy didn't sound like any kind of title he could think of. Unless Tsubaki was some sort of alien - or knew aliens - who had titles like that. It wasn't like it was uncommon to find aliens on earth and he didn't personally know any aliens apart from Superman and the Legion but they were also from the future. Maybe there were species who had titles like that. Or it could be possible she just wasn't familiar with superheroes. He knew there were worlds out there without them but it was such a hard idea to come to terms with.

As soon as they were clear of the staircase Kon was hurrying to catch up with Tsubaki again. He was itching to see some action now that he had the opportunity. A good fight would also let him see how much of his TTK was back and help him let off the stress of being unable to fly.

"Do you know what sort of experiments they run up here?" Who knew what state the people that had been taken would be in. The closest Kon had come to being experimented on - besides when he was made - was when the Agenda had kidnapped him so they could clone him. He'd been unconscious for whatever they did to him so he didn't have any idea what to expect when they arrived.

The upstairs area was much like the one below, though less crowded with others intent on achieving their private objectives. At the top of the stairwell Brainiac 5 stopped, angling his flashlight in order to consult his map. It was irritating that he had to rely on a primitive hard copy like this, when before it would have been much easier to just utilise his scanning devices and perfect memory to build a flawless mental representation of the layout himself. The sooner he learned how to remedy this situation, the better. "We need to take the second hallway to west," he said. "It should lead into another hallway, which then contains the labs. From there I should be able to figure out more about what was done to myself and others."

He glanced up at Grell, noting that the man was still nervous and flinching at every shadow or movement. "I suggest you don't fall behind," he remarked. "According to others, we are safer to travel in groups."

[identity profile] deadlyjuliet.livejournal.com 2008-12-14 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally the idea? It was the only thing stairs were good for - going up or going down. Unless you wanted to count the various ways a person could die on the stairs. But those deaths were usually quite boring, involving broken necks or backs and nothing more. So little blood for all that pain.

Now that they were upstairs and Brainiac was being such a good host, Grell meekly and obediently followed him. There was no need to get up in arms over little things since he had his prey and his guide all rolled up into one. "Ah! Y-yes, I'll be sure not to!" he said, keeping close as he could without tripping over the other boy.

There were people in this hallway. Wesker paused and noticed with amusement that Leon was one of them. Surely he wasn't heading to the lab, was he? Wesker would be amused if that turned out to be the case, but he was probably after something that would be a bit more useful to him.

Then again, this was Leon, and he just might do something like that. Wesker moved along the wall opposite to the one Leon was pressed against, trusting that the darkness would hide his presence. If not, Leon couldn't really be all that surprised to see him sneaking about on his own.

Wesker could also plausibly deny having been in the labs, and claim to have had a different destination up here.

Celes had only thought of their crossing of the stairwell in hindsight, though there certainly hadn't been anything there of particular note. "The experimentation area should be just ahead," she took a quick glance behind her, reminding herself that her long legs carried her at a pace quite quickly, and that the boy might have been left behind on the stairs.

[identity profile] maskedsunflower.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She'd taken off faster than he had expected, but he'd hurried to catch up with her. Having to run for a few minutes to keep pace didn't upset him, but once he was alongside her again he found himself watching Celes in case she might dash off again.

Looking around the hall, 'just ahead' seemed to cover a lot of possibilities. He hadn't been able to take the stairs during the day, but recognized the balcony that was visible overhead from the first floor. Still carrying flashlight and radio, he nodded at her glance, between looking around and trying to commit the area to memory. The radio was still silent, but she'd said they'd be saving people from experiments. He wondered what kind of experiments were performed here, and how long it would take for them to encounter a monster.

So far it was quiet. Farfarello noticed a few people lingering around here, one of them happening to be a certain blond bastard, but nothing of particular interest was going on. Normally, that would have been an annoyance, but tonight it just meant nothing in their way.

Still, there could always be problems that weren't obvious to Farfarello's senses, so he glanced back at Schuldig with one eyebrow raised. "Anything?"

[identity profile] k4t4str0ph4l.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Schuldig nodded his head slightly towards a slim figure a few yards down the hall. "Arty's ninja boyfriend. Also his roommate, so he saw Arty taken - he's just a bit tense," he added, laying the sarcasm on thick but not being in a good enough mood to smirk at it as he certainly would've done under other circumstances. "Sneaking up on him would probably not be the best idea."

So, naturally, Schuldig opted to stride right up to the boy instead.

There were a few people lingering in the hall, but none of the delays seemed to be due to monster attacks. This was fortunate for the large group that made their way out of the stairwell just then, though the same might not be true further ahead. It was difficult to tell specific details, but there was definitely something going on in the hall ahead. From what Homura could tell, it wasn't an entirely unusual occurence, something that made sense given how much traffic went through the area.

"Remember the goal." That one reminder was all Homura intended to give. He doubted any of his group would be foolish enough to break away, but if they did so without good reason, there would be harsher consequences than firm words.

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember the goal. Okita wasn't one to forget easily, even with the sounds of a battle coming from up ahead. He slowed though, just in case something were to happen and gripped the hilt of his sword. Orders were to ignore the fight, but he would protect the group if anything were to attack.

"Get the keys ready."

Indy was starting to feel a little silly. Where were the guards? The mythical monsters stalking the halls? Skulking around like a kid out past bedtime didn't seem to be doing anything except slowing them down.

Hokum or not, he kept his flashlight dimmed and his footsteps quiet as he continued toward the center of the building. Better safe than sorry.

[identity profile] oldest-man.livejournal.com 2008-12-15 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Methos was perfectly content to let his roommate take the lead. If the other man was out front to attract the attention of any guards roaming the halls, so much the better. Though as they headed down yet another hallway empty of anyone save other patients, that was beginning to seem less and less likely. Had the facility been abandoned? Doubtful; they'd only just brought in a new crop of subjects.

Or was everyone off at that cavern mentioned by the strangely monotone woman who had made the announcements at nightfall? That seemed more likely, and he regretted ever so slightly a lack of any real context for the remark.

Unfamiliar territory!

Yuffie’s curiosity had been piqued as she’d run, nimbly and ninja-like, up the stairs. She was sorely disappointed when she reached the top, though - it was just more of the same. How lame was that?

Still, it wasn’t like there was no potential. There was probably a ton of loot lying around, if she could only find it… And it wasn’t like Reno was going to stop her, was it? He wouldn’t be all, ‘Yuffie, that isn’t safe!’, or ‘Yuffie, those aren’t yours!’, or ‘Brat, hide in your room!’. Definitely not the last one - at least not seriously. He was smarter than that, and it wasn‘t like he actually cared.

Moving a few steps away from the stairs, and keeping half of her attention on her surroundings, she glanced back and waited for the red-head.

[identity profile] offduty.livejournal.com 2008-12-17 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Reno fell into step beside her and shone his flashlight into the corridor before him. He'd discovered that being not-stealthy outweighed the risks of walking blindly into a darkened corner only to find something was waiting to eat your heart.

He didn't look over, but the questioning tilt of his head was there. "Sounds like he's your new best friend," he said dryly. "What'd he do to get that special status?"

Hardly anyone in this corridor either. That was weird. He thought more people usually went upstairs. Was he late or was he early? He couldn't tell and that bothered him. What if he and the others were the last ones to get there? Or what if the patients had already been released and no one was there again? Of all the things Ritsuka hated, being a hypocrite was in the top ten.

Moving quickly, he hoped Sheena and Raine didn't mind that he was in the lead. He just wanted to get to the place as soon as possible.

Hitsugaya quickly rushed up the stairs, knowing with the time lost Fowl would probably be released soon. There wasn't time to waste...

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2008-12-17 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
No time to waste, indeed. If rushing around was what Hitsugaya wished to do, then there was one thing here that was happy to help him along in the wrong direction. As the shinigami ran below, it crawled along the ceiling, sharp eyes watching and quick legs keeping up with him. The creature's skin burned like a salamander although it's body glowed without giving any light. Spider legs carried it smoothly along while two lurcher arms protruded out of its humanoid chest. Where there should have been fingers though were necrit claws and where the spider body should have been was the hard shell and tail of a scorpion. A salamander's head, topped with the spider's eyes leered down at Hitsugaya from the end of its long snake-like neck.

Twisting around, the leftover dropped from the ceiling, landing surprisingly gracefully on all eight legs as it took a swipe with one large clawed hand at Hitsugaya's face.

Sakura swept the area with her light as they reached the top of the stairs. There were two fights nearby and she kept her voice hushed as she described them to Sasuke as succinctly as she could.

"It looks like there's a giant spider going after a patient to our far left. I should...- Appears to be able to spray some kind of acid, so be careful where you step. He might need assistance... I...- Further down on the right another fight has just finished. One main aggressor, but they've been taken out," she explained. Would the boy need a medic? Sakura was hesitant to just leave. He didn't look much older than Konohamaru or his team. While she'd faced the Chuunin exams at that age, not everyone here was a trained ninja.

Kakashi had been a little surprised to see Jiraiya show up, but only for a moment. Considering everything that had happened back in their world, it wouldn't be weird if they had a standard let the old man see you're alive appointment every night. And if Naruto hadn't shown up for that either, then it really did only confirm the worst.

But why had Sasuke answered Jiraiya like he had? Kakashi doubted it was to make the man worry less; the Uchiha wasn't the type to do that. Maybe to downplay his own worries, then. That would make a great deal more sense, given how Sasuke tried to act about all of them.

He still hadn't been discovered, and Kakashi would have to give Sakura and Sasuke both a nudge about their observational skills later. But there were more important things to worry about at the moment, and Kakashi stepped closer as he heard Sakura's hesitation and conflict.

"We don't know what state Naruto is in." Kakashi could understand why Sakura was as conflicted as she was, because it was a hard choice. She was a kind person in her core, and people were hurting. Kakashi knew a number of people who wouldn't just walk away from that, and would scream at him for choosing to do so.

But Obito would just have to yell, and swear to never forgive him.

"Chakra is limited here, Sakura. If we can, we'll help them when we come back. But right now, Naruto is our first priority." He looked over at Jiraiya and Sasuke with his good eye, unable to take the lead himself. "So which way do we go next?"

"Maa... I s'pose so. Though it doesn't sound like you were too lucky if ya wound up there t'begin with," Gin commented, shrugging his shoulders as they rounded the corner. They were almost back into safe territory, but then, that might be a little dangerous for him as well, given the other shinigami were not off.

Sure enough little Toushirou was already in the hallway. His reiatsu was waning, and when he saw what the boy was fighting, he could hazard a guess as to why. If Gin much cared, aside from the impact it could potentially have on Rangiku, he might've tried to help, if only to deal the killing blow to the creature and tease the young captain further. With one healing already though, and the throbbing still ebbing away from his headache, another would be liable to make him pass out. While it might be a noble gesture, Gin had far too many enemies for that to be an option.

"Stick close," he said, not loud enough to be heard. "Looks like there's dangerous things about."

Sure, he'd been dumped in an unfamiliar room on the other side of the building and upstairs from where he'd been, but Yukito rather thought it could've been worse. A lot worse. After all, what if that person had decided to attack or something instead of just...whatever he'd done?

But before he could say anything to that effect, though, he heard the sounds of a fight and at Ichimaru's quiet warning he edged away warily. He might have wanted to try to help, but realistically? He'd be a lot more likely just to get in the way, if not get himself injured even more.

As he reached the top of the stairs, Junior paused for a moment. There was the fight he thought he'd heard, and it seemed like the guy was having trouble. That monster was pretty grotesque-looking, too, but they had something to do.

The redhead hated leaving people, but maybe once they found Shito and got him taken care of, they'd be able to come back and help out. Junior turned back to Kudo and Kuroba and put a finger over his lips, then pointed to the left, toward the hallway where they did the experiments, before heading that way himself.

He hoped MOMO was doing okay, on whatever mission Homura'd had for her tonight.

"It's actually on the other side..." Matt swallowed. At least the dead... thing... back there hadn't been the mess from a couple nights back. Still, the reminder left him slightly nauseous.

The other worry was that there would be something in the center hall to block their way. Perhaps they should have come up the other stairs...

Sen's presence close to his was at once comforting and pressuring. It was a reminder that they had someone with them they, or at least he, couldn't let any harm come to. He didn't even know if he'd be able to manage it, if it came down to fighting. If he had to choose between helping Sen and fleeing for his life...?

He was such a coward.

"We should move fast," he said, nodding in the correct direction.

Leon looked around carefully as they reached the top of the stairs. One could never say what they'd be bound to see once they moved further in. The central hallway was almost always dangerous - he and Kadaj had run through it enough times to know.

The leading was up to Claude and Guy, though. He had a better idea of what they wanted than he did. He looked to them now. The quicker they made their run, the less chance they'd run into anything too dangerous. Hopefully.

Maybe Leon was more sensitive than Guy had thought. He hadn't meant to turn the boy off after making a few silly comments, and Anise really was worth getting to know. Still, Leon wasn't completely against the idea either, so hopefully it would work out in the end.

Once they got to the top of the stairs, Guy laughed quietly and shook his head at Claude's guess. "More like Luke and Peony, actually." Of course, Anise had become a little more interested in him when she'd found out he'd been a noble at one point in his life, but they both knew it was all in good fun.

When it came down to it, Guy still thought Ion would be Leon's top "competitor" in that situation. Though it really didn't have to be anything other than platonic in the first place.

"So, here we are," he said, grabbing for the second floor map again. He located the place where the stairs were marked and then found where the pharmacy was in comparison. "All right, it looks like we have to go right from here. Not for too long, though, so it should be fine." A monster could always be between them and their destination, but he was trying to think positive.

Again, here, in this hallway, something felt ever-so-familiar to Renamon, but it was further off. It didn't matter right now at least. She needed to get Yukari to her room.

And this hall again. There was clattering and the sounds of fighting down the dark hall where she had retrieved more weapons. Down there it was then.

His strength was waning but Brainiac 5 pushed himself onwards. He couldn't - wouldn't - allow himself to fail now. Superman wouldn't have been so weak as to collapse in a darkened hallway where his enemies might have found him and finished him off, so Brainiac 5 would allow himself to do no less. There were others here, talking to each other and not concentrating so much on their surroundings. They didn't appear, from what he could see anyway, threatening... but then neither had Grell. They still couldn't be trusted. He hugged the opposite wall and kept moving. At least the light from their flashlights was enough that he didn't feel quite so blind, but it still wouldn't be enough for him to find the staircase he had used to get here in the first place. Not to mention that in his current condition, navigating stairs in the dark wasn't an option. He kept moving instead, hoping that eventually he would find a place he could rest and tend his injuries.

When they reached the top of the stairs, she moved her light up and down to check the hallways as usual. Sometimes it fell upon the dead monsters, remains of this or that, but when her light fell on the familiar face of Hitsugaya, she dropped it. There was blood everywhere and bone and giant bug things were still eating him.

He was just a little boy! How could they do this to him?! Why?!

It took every ounce of composure she had not to scream then and there. Her flashlight rolled a few feet away, but she hardly noticed. Her eyes were wide and shocked and she took a shaky step away, deeper into the other hallways.

"Hitsugaya Taichou," her voice was shaky and choked with emotion as she took another step away. She didn't want to see it. She couldn't accept it. Tears were falling down her cheeks and she did nothing to stop them. She'd thought she could handle this. She'd only met the boy a few times and maybe it wasn't even the fact that it was him so much as it brought the reality of this place home.

Bridget had seen a lot of death since he'd left home and he'd become slightly numb to it all, but he understood that Kagura was hurting.

He also understood that they needed to move before they drew attention to themselves. Stepping forward, he placed a bandaged hand on her shoulder.

"You've probably been this way," Brock said as they climbed up the stairs, "I mean, you've been to the Chapel during the day, right?"

Come to think of it, he couldn't remember if he'd seen Luffy. Much as he liked the kid, it wasn't as if he was constantly making sure where exactly the goofy guy was at all hours - he reserved that stalking for one Peter Parker, apparently. Honestly, he couldn't think of anything awesome. Most likely he'd been dragged up here before getting turned loose in the Sun Room, but he had no recall about that at all.

Reaching the second floor, Brock rocked back on his heels a little, his nose flaring as the scent of blood and gore hit him. It was fresh, real fresh, and he half-looked around expecting to see a body. There was just a whole lot of black splashes of blood that he could pick up with his Other's grainy night-vision, but, other than that, no body. Someone had been killed here. Too bad they got dragged off, Brock thought, and months ago he would've been horrified to even think he'd be thinking about scavenging for a brain or two. Now he was just bummed out he'd missed out on a free dinner.

Brock motioned for Luffy to be careful. "Someone got tagged," he lowered his voice and hoped Luffy would have the good sense to do the same. Considering how he seemed to think they were just hanging out for kicks, Brock just hoped he wouldn't attract anything with his "indoor" voice.

[identity profile] rubbermancan.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope, never been," Luffy replied, his tone matter-of-fact. Why would he spend his time in the chapel? He didn't really care for places where he had to be quiet, and it wasn't like he couldn't just lounge around and nap in the sun room anyway. Maybe it'd be cool to have a look around at night when there weren't any Cat Ladies telling him what to do, but they had to search for Brock's friend first.

The pirate paused when his companion seemed to react so something in the area. "Huh? Tagged?" he asked, glancing around. Was that like the game, or what? More importantly, who'd organized to play tag tonight, and hadn't told him about it? The hallway was pretty quiet, but he guessed something went down before they showed up. "One of us, or one of them?"
