Day 27: Library

Libraries, he'd found, were rarely as dull as people made them out to be.  Though he felt no magic in these tomes, they were still full of useful information.  Maybe some of them could tell him a little bit more about this world he'd landed himself in.

For that matter, why hadn't he run into any of the others yet?  They'd all been fairly close together when they'd left Rekord, but he hadn't seen a trace of any of them.  He was able to communicate easily with the people here though, which led him to believe Mokona was within a mile or so.  Unless the ones running this little game had some other way to let all these other-worldly people communicate amongst themselves.  In which case, the others could be very far away indeed.

The library had that wonderful smell of old books, and Fai traced his fingers along the shelves, skimming titles and pulling books that struck his fancy.  Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The War of the Worlds, and with a smile, he found Bram Stoker's Dracula as well.  Raven had been telling the truth then, in spite of his own lies.  Ought to be a good start.  He sat leisurely at one of the tables and began flipping through his selections.

[Waiting for Gin and Rukia]

A field trip, with the infamous Martin Landel serving as a guide, no less. Homura's interest was peaked, wondering just what the venture would entail, and of course, if it would provide an opportunity to escape.

No doubt it would be interesting.

But at the moment, there was business to attend to, or shortly would be. Homura headed to the library, staying near the door where he would be visible, and watched for those he intended to meet. No doubt it would be an interesting shift in the end, considering what details Homura intended to share.

Hopefully he could end his day with success.

The library was thankfully much quieter than the bubbly conversation of the cafeteria. His headache was in full force and he rubbed his temple briefly as he entered the room. It was still fairly empty. Though Homura was already quietly waiting.

Gin took a chair at Homura's table, reversing it so he could sit a little more comfortably. "I take it y'got somethin' nice for me, ne? That or you jus' wanna ask a couple more pointed questions."

Ed paid careful attention to the bodiless voice as the nurse finally let her out of the cafeteria. Field trip? Out of the crazy-place? Something sounded fishy about that, but it would certainly be informative. And potentially fun!

However, the more immediate thought was: a library, how useful! But Ed did not see computers here either... how disappointing. As the girl wandered around the bookshelves she saw a lot of titles she was familiar with, but most of them were quite dated. She also noticed quite quickly that part of the wall stuck out to meet some of the bookshelves. What was the point of that? Hmm... further examination of the architectural anomaly revealed nothing of interest.

Oh well, at least she'd had a chance to catch up on all the fun drawings and things attached to her own artwork on the bulletin board. And she'd gotten a little tired of chasing geese, so there was a new message up for interested people to talk to her with ease. Also she now had a physical description for the crazy robot head. She didn't see anyone who matched it just yet...

She poked around the books on the shelf currently in front of her, but they all seemed normal.

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And he had been enjoying his conversation with the other Leon too! The nurses always seemed to drag him away just when he was getting somewhere. Such a nuisance!

At least they were headed somewhere interesting for a change. The library! He couldn't wait to see what sort of books even a prison like this held. As this wasn't his world, even the most mundane of books would probably be something he hadn't seen.

The nurse leading him didn't seem willing to let him go off on his own first thing, however. Instead she lead him over to some small red-head he hadn't seen before, a newer patient most likely, and told him to get acquainted. What was wrong with letting him choose his own friends?

He thought of walking away once the nurse had taken her leave, but that would have been rude. Instead he muttered "Um.. hi," before turning his attention to the shelves.

Phibrizzo was happy to see the end of lunch roll around. The incident with the fat man had been too close for his liking, though Gluttony had been sedated before he could cause much a scene. Hiding out in the library would be convenient as well- he would bury his face into a book and scheme whilst pretending to read. Hopefully the book alone would be enough to shield him from the Chimera's roaming eyes.

Still, to be safe, he barricaded himself into a corner that was Zelgadis-free at the moment. Pulling up a random book of poetry, the Mazoku lord attempted to blend in and go unnoticed.

[identity profile] axe-of-oath.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't until Gremio stepped into the library that he realized just how long it had been since he'd been around so many books. He'd never been particularly bookish as a child--growing up in a fishing village like Kirov meant less time to read in favor of more time out on his father's boat. And after he joined the military, well... there just hadn't been any time at all for that. He'd read to Tir when he was a little boy, certainly, and he'd probably thumbed through more cookbooks than most housewives, but that was about all.

Now that he had the opportunity to flip through a few books, however, he couldn't help but be a little curious. This world was not his own, and the stories would certainly be different. He wondered what sort of information he could gather about this place here. And who knew? Maybe he'd find a few nice bedtime stories to tell Tir when he got home--

"... Oh, what on earth am I thinking?" he thought to himself with a small, internal laugh. Tir was seventeen now, and far too old for that sort of thing. He couldn't help but forget sometimes.

He made his way through the rows, finger trailing absently along the spines of the books until he found a title or two that struck him. Suddenly wanting a place to sit, he looked around until he saw the boy against sitting in the corner (good heavens, they brought people here that young?). Well, that seemed like a good a place as any?

"Excuse me," he began, careful to keep his voice low, "do you mind if I join you?"

Mousse decided that if he was going to have to bide his time until night, he might as well find some way to do it. When the intercom announced that the library was an option, the myopic Amazon saw no reason not to accept. However, on his way from the cafeteria, a nurse put a firm hand on his shoulder.

"Mr. Stipe," she said sternly, "Please leave the dining utensils here."

Mousse blinked. How did she even know he had pilfered some? Maybe she didn't, really. Pretending he knew nothing of what she was speaking, he insisted she had to be mistaken. In turn, she slid a hand swiftly under his shirt and produced three forks.

"We wouldn't want to hurt anyone, would we?"

Incredulously, he stalked into the library to join the other patients. How was it that his techniques were so easily seen through and when could he get his hands on some weapons?

Lunch was certainly interesting, William had to admit. He had been expecting something of value, but Wesker's request went far beyond that he could now see why he kept the other man around, even if he was annoying at times. Regardless, the doctor was hoping this coming night would be as equally interesting as lunch was, he did not look forward to wandering aimlessly in the dark.

After managing to convince his nurse to let him grab his notebook and a pen from his room, William allowed himself to be escorted into the library where he was seated next to a rather different... boy...? The long hair was common in this place, but it did not make it any easier to discern the sex of the people here

[has been reserved for Kairi, it seems]

Given the choice, Renji went for the library without hesitation. While other people didn't seem impressed with the place, the library contained a great many books that he'd never even seen, far newer than anything he'd had access to in Soul Society. (And Western ones, even.)

He didn't wander far from the door; he figured Kairi would just not see him in the sun room and head this way. For some reason he'd thought they'd be in the art room again. He grabbed a random book and opened it, leaning against the shelf as he read.

[identity profile] heartcrown.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
“Renji? Reading a book? I’m surprised!”

Kairi’s amused voice came from behind her tall friend; her hands clasped behind her as a soft laugh escaped her lips. After finding out they were to go to either the sun room or the library, the copper headed girl picked the library first, thinking that she could always swing around and check the sun room afterwards. To her surprise (and luck!) she found Renji on the first go. What were the odds?

Moving to his side quickly, Kairi smiled up at her friend.

Only to look away a few seconds later when past memories dawned on her and she spun around, her back facing him now as her face flushed red. Oh no, this was going to be harder than she had expected!

Quatre was curious about which books the library would hold, but his mind was too clouded to concentrate on reading. He wandered around the shelves for a moment, his pale hand touching some of the titles that he knew as classics. If fact, all of these books had been written hundreds and hundreds of years before he had been born, before even the Colonies had been created.

He frowned slightly. He wanted to find out what year the hospital said that it was, and more information about where they were supposed to be. He was still having trouble accepting it was an entirely different world... but the alternative could be admitting that somehow the colonies had been destroyed.

The thought was terrifying.

Bridget thought that the 'Sun Room' sounded boring and asked the woman leading him there to go to the library instead. She'd smiled and agreed and, for once, didn't ask him to give up his bear. He grinned. She was learning.

Roger hugged tightly to his chest, he looked around. Not quite as large as the library back home, but still... He was happy to be in something familiar at least. About to go wander the shelves, Bridget stopped. A flash of blond, a boy that looked his age, his height... He could only see the back of his head but....

He slowly walked over, almost hoping he was wrong, feeling bad for wishing he was right. "Brother?"

Ah, more time amongst her lesser cousins. Reinforce was supposed to meet that interesting Nobody-person, but she left it to Larxene to find her. She wouldn't skip library-time for anything.

Last time she'd just been cavorting around the stacks, at least until she'd run into that disrespectful little girl, but that was done. Now it was time for the slower, more refined enjoyment of actually reading them.

She picked the first title to catch her eye, which was as it happened the Divine Comedy. The others needn't worry about her haphazard method of selection. She'd get to them soon enough~

[identity profile] divineglutton.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The goddess hadn't spent as much time as she'd have wished with those she had already met before.

Indeed, it had been several nights since she had last seen Reinforce, and as the goddess wandered into the library, she decided to stop for the girl and make sure that everything was all right. At the least, Reinforce seemed physically well, but that wasn't the whole story- if anyone knew about how a pleasant exterior could hide a festering wound, it was Okami Amaterasu.

So she walked up to Reinforce... then paused. If she was reading, then it would be rude to interrupt, wouldn't it? Such a dilemma for the mother of all!

Harry entered the library with a determined expression. The conversation on the bulletin board left him feeling confused but prepared. He had contacted this 'Renji' person and might be working with the man's group sometime in the future. He was still hoping all this 'night' stuff was complete rubbish, but he knew better to discount it completely. There was just one thing to do now.

If he really was written about in a book then he wanted to know what exactly people knew about him. One of the people had mentioned Cho, and just the thought that people only had to read a book to find out some of the most embarrassing moments in Harry's life mortified him.

It felt a little weird to be looking for his own name in a title of a book. He knew (thanks to Hermione) that he was in a couple of Wizarding recent history books, but he had never bothered to read them, and there was a whole chapter dedicated about him in The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore but the thought of that book made his stomach clench. This, however, this was different. He wasn't looking for a book about how he had stopped Voldemort as a baby, he was looking for a book about how he had grown up, how he had been awkward and unhappy, how he had come to love Hogwarts, how he had met the people he cared most about.

He couldn't find his name or anything that hinted towards him inside of a book anywhere. He couldn't find anything called 'Goblet of Fire' which was the name that had been dropped for the book about his fourth year.

He wanted to know what people knew about him! But this library was completely unhelpful. That wasn't entirely surprising, but it was extremely frustrating.

Normally (and it was always disconcerting when he realized that the shifts in this place were becoming normal) when he was tired during the day, Hikaru would've just chosen a couch to pass out on, but there were so many new "patients" these days that the Sun Room tended to get kind of noisy. So he opted for the second choice--the library. Libraries were quiet. Maybe he could find a remote aisle and lie down on the floor.

That seemed really appealing right now, actually. Maybe he'd to that.

The Host wasn't exactly paying attention to where he was going, and ended up bumping into a guy about his height with unruly black hair, glasses...and an extremely famous scar.

"...You've got to be kidding." First anime and video game characters (and members of the Shinsengumi), now this?!

The library--it might not be the perfect place to gather information, but at least he could get a little better of an idea of what this world was like.

So immediately he started looking for pirate adventure novels, and... nothing. No The Blackhearted Pirates of Smuggler's Cove or Captain Natt and the Shadowed Sea or I Loved a Pirate Duke or anything. What kind of universe was this?! He'd gotten a few odd looks from others when he'd mentioned being a pirate, but attributed that to the reputation of the pirate. Was this world truly so devoid of pirate culture?

Now that was just unnatural and wrong. What did people do for voyeuristic pop entertainment here, then? There was a weird blend of stories... at least lots of them seemed like adventure stories.

He finally settled on Gulliver's Travels, which sounded a bit like a story from his world only peculiarly devoid of pirates, at least at the start. Well, maybe there would be some pirates later. He sat down to start reading.

Cultural studies, right.

When Sai had been pulled away from Lee this time he was more satisfied with the information he'd gotten and chose not to seek him out again. The Library was a good diversion and he found himself walking along the shelves with some actual interest. What sort of books would be kept in a place like this?

A familiar nose drew his attention away momentarily and he put on a more honest smile before making his way to the pirate's side. Things should be discussed before nightfall.

"Usopp," he addressed him without the usual honorific, as that was common among friends. "What are your plans for tonight?"

Thursday's nurse had attempted to dissuade her from entering the library. She wouldn't give a reason as to why, exactly, but Thursday got the impression that she supposedly had - delusions of a sort about books in general. But Thursday had been especially polite and subdued (though that was more due to the sedatives than anything else) and the nurse had at last relented.

So she stepped through the door, feeling slightly apprehensive. It was a library, for GSD's sake; if this had been Goliath, there wouldn't have been anything even remotely resembling the written word within arm's reach of her. As it was, she wasn't sure whether to feel pleased or suspicious - what she'd read on the bulletin board about suppressed powers worried her. Bookjumping was a natural ability; how the hell would they have managed to restrict that?

She decided to settle for suspicion when she saw the book titles. Almost all of them were classics - was this some sort of a sick joke? Still, a little of her apprehension melted away as she pulled Alice in Wonderland and Jane Eyre from the shelf - best to try books where she knew she'd get help easily. There was something to be said for the reassuring feel of the covers under her hands.

She seated herself at a table and placed the books in front of her, closing her eyes for a moment. She'd never bookjumped while sedated, and she had a feeling it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing in the world to do. Maybe if she just rested for an hour or two...

[identity profile] jurisfictional.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thursday must have dozed off at some point, because it was the noise of a nearby argument that woke her some time later. She straightened, rubbed her eyes, looked up, and stared.

It was one thing to chat to Harry Potter over a bulletin board, but it was quite another to see him dressed in that ridiculous uniform, arguing loudly with - oh, GSD, was that Snape? How many of them were there?

She forced her eyes back down to the books in front of her. This was a lot more serious than she'd originally thought, and she'd originally thought it was very serious indeed. It was best if she concentrated on her own business for now - namely, trying to get out of here.

Alice in Wonderland first. If anyone could help her, Cat could. Opening the book to Alice's first encounter with him, she cleared her throat and quietly began to read aloud.

She hadn't even gotten past the second sentence when the headache struck and the world spun alarmingly. Dropping the book, she clutched her head, swearing colorfully. Her mouth had gone dry and she felt faintly nauseous - but that was normal for a failed bookjump. It was the intensity of the headache that had startled her; nothing like that had ever happened to her before. But the pounding in her head faded after another two or three minutes. Lowering her hands to the cover of Jane Eyre, she grit her teeth and started to read again.

Two sentences later, she was clutching her head again and feeling very, very thankful she had elected to skip lunch earlier today.

Fuck.

Ginji felt horrible. His entire body ached from overusing it during lunch. At least he still knew he couldn't jump around or anything, but he also couldn't have let the poor kid get hurt by that big creepy guy.

His nurse brought him into the library. Ginji frowned slightly. He wasn't very good at reading. He asked her to bring him something easy to read as she placed his wheelchair by a table. She grinned and came back with a children's story.

It was better than nothing, with a smile he thanked her and then looked at hte cover. Frowning, he opened it up.

He wasn't sure how much he would be able to focus on a book.

Kyon's nurse made the decision to lead him into the Library, going on about the different books that could be found there. She also made a point about the quiet environment, too. Maybe she had picked up on Kyon's mood since breakfast. If she did, she was good.

He glanced around the room and headed to the book shelf. He skimmed through the titles, recognizing a lot of them. None of them though, he really felt like reading. (Damn and it didn't look like they had The Blue Bird of Happiness)

Picking something random he sat down at the nearest table.

Recluse quickly opted for the library over the blinding natural light in the sun room. This could maybe give him some time to think, and maybe find a good book. He wasn't hopeful about the later, but he was still bored enough to try.

So. A little 'freedom' tomorrow. If nothing else, it would be a good time to use his skills as a thief. He wasn't going to try to escape, or attack the head doctor or some such nonsense. They had captured him easily enough when they first brought him here, when he still had all his powers. And from what he had heard of Landel's appearance in the chapel, attacking him head on was absolutely useless. But he was sure that some would still try.

Recluse wandered through the shelves, eyeing the titles. No non-fiction. How very conductive to weakening people's 'delusions'. And the only fiction he was interested in had mostly been published before he had been born. All the old science fiction novels he saw on the shelves were ones he had read when he was young. And no matter what else was going on that moment, as soon as I picked up a book, Marcus would start pestering me. Which was now a rather depressing prospect, if he actually managed to find an interesting book.

It was also deeply depressing that the only relatively modern book available was the Da Vinci Code. Highly overrated. Apart from that, it was all-- Now why the hell do they have that? Recluse pulled the Ars Goetia off one of the shelves. He found this more amusing than anything. The patient's library contains a demon summoning manual.

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The library at least had a good selection, though it appeared someone else had already grabbed Dante's Divine Comedy. It wasn't nearly as good translated, anyway. He much preferred it in it's original language.

Instead he found himself heading towards Tartaros, who was holding... a demon summoning manual, of all things. And it wasn't even a real one.

"That one does not actually work," Sparda offered as he approached Tartaros, smiling slightly.

622 had quietly eaten his midday meal, glad to have no one bothering him while he was eating. Getting the proper amount of food was more important than civilians seemed to think. Maybe they just didn't respect the fact that food might not be handed to them all the time.

The idea of some place where there might be information on this system was promising, but it seemed he had been too hopeful. After a little confusion, he realized all the available books (Paper books! Weren't those only kept in museums?) were stories that people had made up. Fiction. Unhelpful lies. Oh well. There might still be some information on the local culture in these things...

Faust had simply gone to the library. Books, even fictional books, were something of a comfort. He scanned the shelves, looking around for something that would catch his eye and then spotted his former roommate.

He walked over and frowned, worried and relieved. "Darman? What happened to you?"

Ewwww, reading. Of all her school-related chores, that one held the bulk of her hatred. The books she was supposed to read were so dull and boring and never kept her interest for more than a minute, at best! That's why she had usually gotten the Earl to do things for her like book reports and chapter readings, along with doing her homework for her, of course.

That being the case, she wasn't going to willingly read anything unless some title could keep her attention as she skimmed. Boring, boring, boring, bor... hey!

She drew out a book titled Lolita by: Vladimir Nabokov. She knew that word quite well as it was used to describe her often. Maybe the book could hold he attention for more than a few seconds as the title had miraculously caught her attention. The first page made it very clear that books were not, and never would be for her. Annoyed with the blandness of the beginning, she cast the book down on the floor without placing ti back onto the shelf.

"I'm booooooooooooored~" she cried, pouting.

"That's no way to treat a book."

Citan had gotten the hang of wheeling himself about and no longer needed his nurse to do so for him. The library seemed a much better choice than the Sun Room, at least to a man of intellectual leanings. Despite knowing that the room was full of fiction, he still wished to skim the selections. Even fiction could give insight into a place.

Before he even made it to the shelf, he was distracted by the young woman tossing books about. His scholarly side winced at the very idea!

(Unknowingly waiting for Diva.)

Kain's thoughts were mostly on the conversation he just had. It had gone fine up until just before the end of lunch, but Daemon's insistence that he travel with someone during the night left him unsettled. Kain could take care of himself (as long as he didn't get distracted), and he was sure, or at least mostly sure that Daemon could as well, so why the stubbornness? Was the night really that bad?

And why exactly did the man care, anyways?

At least he didn't have to go back to the Arts and Crafts room. Instead the intercom had announced that the library was an option, and thankfully the nurse let him pick where he wanted to go. Soon he was leaning against one shelf, immersed in The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Diva didn't like being the last, to stand and do nothing at the back of a crowd; it was like the ebbing of the tide when all the humans picked up and left for another area.

It had nothing to do with her sense of cooperation when she followed.

Light-footed and partially dazed, she promptly forgot all about the human man who had been talking and touching her shoulders - after all, the closer she followed the herd, the stronger the blood scent. Lots of old blood, old and new injuries. This really did seem like one of Amshel's places!

The nurse (a different one from before) was following the girl at a small distance. "Tell me, Ms. Frenier, how did you li - " As soon as Diva came into the Sun Room, however, she went for a side room at a run, cutting off any attempts to speak with her without warning.

Finally! It was about time she found one of them! But when she finally laid eyes on the boy, her senses seemed to be at odds with one another until she realized she had made a mistake. He definitely wasn't familiar! No familiar blood, not even nee-sama's, a hollow echo. Diva seemed almost childishly dismayed. "Ne, who are you?"

longlivetheking: (wut?)

[personal profile] longlivetheking 2007-09-29 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
After the awkward lunch, Scar had asked his nurse where the 'board' was located. After she had shown him its location, explaining that he could communicate with the other patients through this 'bulletin board'. At first, he wasn't quite sure how one could communicate with something such as this, but he soon discovered the symbols drawn on the paper.

Even stranger, he understood what these symbols meant. He was quite certain he had never seen such things before, yet here he was understanding them as if he hadn't known anything else all his life! He easily figured these were the means of communication, so he went through the rather awkward experience of copying them in order to write his own message. The symbols became shaky and jerky, as it was quite the chore to even hold the pen, much less draw those symbols with it.

After he was finished writing the shaky message, the nurse suggested to escort him to the library where, according to her, he could 'read a book'. After Scar had entered, he was left alone near the shelves and found himself looking at the strange items stored upon them. These things must be what the woman had called 'books', yet he wasn't quite sure what to do with them.

He noticed these items nearly had the same symbols on the surface as the bulletin board had. Curiosity getting the better of him, he reached out for one of the books - one that read The Jungle Book along with a name that hardly told Scar anything - and pulled it from the shelve. He investigated the book from all sides, eventually flipping it open. Scar carefully glanced at the paper, recognizing the symbols he had seen before. The symbols made words, the words made sentences, and to his surprise he could conclude the sentences eventually made a story.

His expression changed into a frown. The odd discoveries where just piling up for him, weren't they?

She’d been to the sunroom so many times now, so heading instead to the library seemed like a slightly different way to waste one's time at least as the blonde strode her way in. Integra had to also admit a somewhat morbid curiosity as to what titles madmen would keep on hand for their prisoners to peruse anyway. If the things on the intercom were even half truth though, some of the prisoners may be being transferred as soon as tomorrow. Wherever Doyleton was a codename for. But that was not something she worried with now.

For one, she was looking for a certain vampire as she passed the different shelves, sometimes pausing to skim across their names and authors. At some point she needed to pass along the information regarding her new, experimental partnership with Colonel Mustang that had been hammered out during breakfast. But she’d never seen her servant since. Maybe he’s decided to avoid me, she thought to herself only smirking in belief that no one could see her before she rounded another corner to almost run into a rather rough, yet lanky looking man fully immersed with a book.

It was hard to say whether he shouldn’t have been standing there so stupidly, or if she should have been thinking less of Alucard and more of her direction as she paused for the moment in lieu of any apology.

Her blue eyes glanced to the book’s spine, before looking back into the dark face of the stranger. Really, one that wasn't so different a skin color than her own. “A fan of Kipling then?” The knight questioned in usual tone, then already noting the odd mark across his eye. A war wound?

(Unknowingly waiting for Jack Horner I MEAN, John Trick!)

"Are you sure you don't want to go back to the Sun Room Sean? Maybe rest your arm a bit?"

"Oh no, I'm fine Nurse Hedgerow,"

"Well then... Could I at least get you a book that's appropriate for your age level?"

Artemis smiled up from his copy of Socratic Dialogues. "No, thank you. I'm quite content with this one." He had Alice in Wonderland to read for later--so what was this woman complaining about? Eventually she left him alone.

Ah... peace and quiet. How wonderful. No one to talk to, no meetings to attend, just time to himself.

(DAMN STRAIGHT YOU'RE WAITING FOR Jack Horner JOHN TRICK, BOY!)

Jack wondered if perhaps it would be a good time to try and pimp out his stories again. True, only a few had seemed interested in them on the bulletin board, but the patients were REQUIRED to be in the library, which meant they were also required to read something, didn't it? And what better to read than ye olde tales of adventure and heroism? Even the slower witted amongst the Mundys could manage; there had to be a children's version somewhere.

Walking past Artemis, the Fable was struck by how very...smarmy he looked for someone his age. A quick glance at the book he was reading-"Socratic Dialogues"- confirmed Jack's suspicions that this kid was undoubtedly one of those know-it-all punks that had an opinion on everything and LOVED to share, if only to hear themselves talk. Kinda like the jerk on the bulletin board.

Arching an eyebrow none-to-amused, Jack hobbled beside the teen and asked suspiciously, "So, been active on the board today, have we?"

If he was wrong, nothing lost. If he was right, he'd give him a sock in the face for his attitude.

The library. Finally a place Valyn actually wanted to go and felt as though he could relax some in. Of course, this place's library was nothing like the library's he was used to. Even the books were all wrong! He found himself wheeled into a corner and his nurse pulled a book from the shelf and setting it in his lap.

"I always loved this one," she said. Valyn eyed the title. 'King Solomon's Mines'. He didn't care. He flipped the thing open, keeping it in his lap, and began to read.

[identity profile] degozaruyo.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Kenshin entered the library cheerfully. He was going to be getting metal tonight, even if that meant working with the Shinsengumi. As long as Okita and Hijikata didn't decide to try to "exterminate the rebel scum," they could probably work well together.

The library was a nice place to relax after lunch. He wasn't much of a poet himself, but he did appreciate good literature. Plus, his sudden fluency in the English language intrigued him.

He picked a book off of a shelf at random and began to thumb through it, not really paying attention to the words on the page. He found the young man in the wheelchair next to him much more fascinating. His neck and arm were completely swathed in bandages, and his eyes burned with a dull resentment. This one was obviously an aristocrat of some sort, but unlike that Tamaki boy that Light had pointed out to Kenshin that one time, it was obvious that this one, at least, knew his way around a fight.

"Is that a good book?" he asked mildly.

The library. It had seemed better than the sunroom although he usually went there for a nap before the night came. It just didn't seem right this close to the horrors of Landel's being unleashed. Besides, it was quiet here and let him have some time to think.

Talking to Barret had pulled up memories he would have preferred to forget. Settling in a chair with some meaningless book before him, Rufus forced his mind off thoughts of Pyramid Head and back onto tonight. There was a real chance that they would be with AVALANCHE or at least one of its members, and that could be a far worse recipe for disaster than anything before.

Haku asked to be taken into the library this shift, and was glad when there was no resistance to the idea from his nurse. A quiet shift reading sounded good, she'd told him. Truthfully, he wanted to gather more information and having a place to sit and think while pretending to be otherwise occupied seemed like a good thing.

He casually picked up a large book off of a table he was seated near and began to flip through it, mind working furiously.

For all that mention of a library had sounded promising, Sam felt his hopes begin to drop almost immediately upon being ushered inside. The room was missing the bank of computers he'd come to expect from such facilities - no real surprise there, he was forced to admit. Given the circumstances, he'd been naive to hope for anything he might use to contact the outside world. But worse than the lack of technological toys was the fact that a swift scan of the bookshelves left him little hope of finding much in the way of useful information amongst the stacks. Still, he was determined to at least look, on the off chance there might be something helpful. And so he browsed, expression half intent and half abstracted, the look of someone searching for something without quite knowing what that something was.

At least it left his mind free to mull over the news of the trip announced for the next day.

[from here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/212694.html?thread=15148502#t15148502).]

Hikaru got away from Snape and Harry Potter as fast as he possibly could. He had no place in their argument, and it had been supremely awkward. So he just walked up to the first familiar face--the guy from breakfast that he had abandoned as soon as he had seen Haruhi--and sat down near him.

"Hey, sorry about running off like that this morning. Mind if I join you?"

He could be polite, when he wanted to.

Lunch had left Hisoka with too much information on his plate and not enough time to digest any of it. That guy from Kyoto was here, Tsuzuki apparently knew him and Hisoka wasn't even allowed to do anything about it! For now anyway. But him (Oriya?) being here wasn't what confused the boy the most, it was why he was here.

Granted, the bastard had been willing to defend Muraki even at the risk of letting Tsuzuki die, but Hisoka had not thought he was the kind of person to be actively involved in one of Muraki's schemes. Hisoka scowled and moved to find a book, thinking right now was making things worse. Maybe if he gave himself a rest for a moment everything would make more sense.

Ken grumbled in annoyance, hating the fact that he was injured, useless--even more now that he was so damn tired thanks to the medication he'd been put on on top of the lingering symptoms of concussion. He had such a love/hate relationship with painkillers. And now he'd been dragged to the library. Ken didn't often read, he could, obviously, but he was usually far more predisposed to action.

He approached Hisoka, just drowsy and confused enough to think that he was walking up to his team leader. "Do they have any good books, Omitchi?"

His brain and eyes caught up with his mouth just a second later. "...shit. Sorry, thought you were someone else."

Field trips, hmmm?

And the head doctor himself would attend, serving as a guide. Xemnas was positive some of the patients would foolishly attempt escaping or attacking the head doctor, and the Nobody couldn't help but wonder what kind of measures the staff would take in order to prevent such from occurring.

Yes, the field trip would certainly prove to be interesting.

His amber gaze glanced at the titles stacked upon the bookshelves after he had entered the library. The Superior hadn't had the opportunity to see the titles thus far, and as libraries were usually a great source of information he couldn't help but to at least give it a chance.

But unless Xemnas wished to know more about Dracula, there was nothing of use here. Every single book was fiction, telling nothing of their whereabouts or their situation. Unfortunate, but expected.

His eyes fell on a book titled 'Heart of Darkness'. Having not much better to do but to pretend to be occupied, he pulled the book from its shelve and seated himself on a chair.

Food poisoning.

God damn it.

He'd spent half the evening, all the night, and most of today feverish and vomiting in the sick room. His nurse had been overly apologetic and dashed in and out with vitamin tonics and liver bowls and clean sheets for most of the day, refusing to listen to his protests that he'd had worse, and she'd even tried to read to him from one of those big, stupid fantasy novels with ten page songs and ridiculously padded plots before he finally gave into his instincts and aimed at her as soon as his stomach tried to empty itself.

He was still barely able to eat, but he wasn't going to let himself be bed-ridden and miss everything that was going on. There were so many new patients, too many hints he'd missed.

He needed to catch up.

His eyes settled on a tall, sagely man, with a book in his hands. He seemed otherwise unoccupied, which made him fair game.

"Have you read that book before?" he greeted, his sickly voice tasting like old coins. A bit of small talk to gauge what sort of person he was, and then a play-by-play of the day he'd missed. Perfect.

Wesker made his way to the library. He didn't expect to find any interesting books, but he might as well take a look. If nothing else he might find something to pass the rest of the day as he waited for night to arrive.

And it would be nice to just relax somewhere before the coming night shift, he was slightly tired. He paused to adjust his sunglasses before making his way away from the other patients to look over the books further away from the entrance.

Had this been in Raccoon city, he might have started to look for a secret passage or some hidden item, but he doubted it would be so easy here.

"I don't know if it's a good idea, Head Doctor, but it will be fun, won't it? It's been a long time since I was outside outside although the Courtyard is nice! I like it too, and it was very thoughtful of you to make it that way with all the pretty flowers and grass."

There could only be one person walking around talking to the Head Doctor and patting his radio. After Harry had hurt his feelings so terribly Rabastan had decided that talking to the Head Doctor would make him feel better. It usually did.

Everyone should have simply gotten out of the way and avoided Landel's resident... err... whatever he was.

"It's not your fault they don't appreciate you and all you do! You try very hard, and someday... someday they'll appreciate you, Martin. Maybe you'll even make history!"

He did pause on his way in to eye Wesker who he almost ran into. It was hard being short vertically challenged some days.

"It's not dark enough for sunglasses, is it?"

Putting his radio to his ear again, Bast appeared to listen before shrugging and eyeing the books himself. None of these looked familiar to him. Where were the ones on what he knew or by authors at least recognizable?

"They don't even have any books on jinxes."

The library had seemed a better alternative than just sitting around in the sun room. However, he almost regretted it when he stepped in to see Lord Recluse standing among the shelves. He was able to see the book that Recluse was holding, and he was quite surprised it wasn't some sort of science fiction. He had always been reading one of those books.

Marcus picked an area of the Library away from Lord Recluse to search through the books, wanting to keep his distance.

"MR. INOUE, THIS IS NOT A WARZONE," His nurse shouted over the ruckus of Sousuke pulling out books by the threes and checking them.

"Affirmative. This is a library, with at least three thousand one hundred and fifty-four places to hide an explosive or trap."

"MR. INOUE," The nurse grabbed the books out of Sousuke's hands and handed him one with a warning glare, "Take this, sit down, and read it."

Sousuke took the book, a nervous look on his face. He couldn't leave all one thousand two hundred and sixty-three places unchecked... but his nurse might try to drug him again, which was unwelcome.

He sat down against one of the shelves and opened the book. His eyes widened in surprise. "Man in the Iron Mask...?"
