Day 27: Library

Libraries, he'd found, were rarely as dull as people made them out to be.  Though he felt no magic in these tomes, they were still full of useful information.  Maybe some of them could tell him a little bit more about this world he'd landed himself in.

For that matter, why hadn't he run into any of the others yet?  They'd all been fairly close together when they'd left Rekord, but he hadn't seen a trace of any of them.  He was able to communicate easily with the people here though, which led him to believe Mokona was within a mile or so.  Unless the ones running this little game had some other way to let all these other-worldly people communicate amongst themselves.  In which case, the others could be very far away indeed.

The library had that wonderful smell of old books, and Fai traced his fingers along the shelves, skimming titles and pulling books that struck his fancy.  Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The War of the Worlds, and with a smile, he found Bram Stoker's Dracula as well.  Raven had been telling the truth then, in spite of his own lies.  Ought to be a good start.  He sat leisurely at one of the tables and began flipping through his selections.

[waiting for Tamaki~]

"Mmmm, I don't know." A book had to keep her attention right off the bat before she would pay it any mind. That wasn't to say she didn't like the bloodshed of humans. With how long she'd been around, she knew a thing or two about human nature in that regard. Wars, genocides, homicides, murder, even the little "accidents" that she caused herself, she'd danced through all of them along with the Earl.

So much blood was on her own hands that it no longer mattered what the little humans did. As long as she was having fun, they could blow each other up as they pleased.

"Reading's boring no matter what it's about. It's too much like school!" School. Ugh. At least that was one good thing this place didn't have. Still had nagging humans that tried to make get her to read, but no homework for her to force on someone else.

"School is quite boring, but very important." Of course, he supposed his schooling was rather different than most. Jugend wasn't simply a school, it was Solaris' elite academy. Only the best and brightest attended.

Citan ran his eyes along the titles on the shelves. Not a single book was familiar to him. He wasn't entirely surprised.

"Though there is much to be said about learning by experience," he added, mildly, still smiling.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Important for what?" She had to ask. Just what was so important about being cooped up with human children who never listened to a teacher who spouted nonsense about things Rhode had lived through. No, Rhode had no love for human school. She couldn't understand just why the Earl insisted on her going to one every decade so that she could "keep up".

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"A great many things," Citan said. "It's a necessary evil, I suppose. And it will be over soon enough. You'd be surprised how time can fly."

This was an odd young woman. Though he was used to strange children. He didn't do very well with them, but he was used to them. He wondered where she came from and why she struck him as strange.

"Eh? But the Earl makes me go every ten years. It'll never be over," she whined. Whining was, surprisingly making her feel better. If it hadn't been, she just would have written this guys words off. Her torment of school would be over once they destroyed everything human. That shouldn't be too far from now.

A good reason why she needed to get back home; she had an Ark to finish downloading!!

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Why every ten years?" Citan blinked mildly at that. How old was this... person? He was beginning to doubt that she was human. Fascinating. "I'd imagine you've learned all you can from schooling, if you've been going for a very long time."

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Cuz he's mean!" That was the childish answer for everything, blaming others by calling them meanies. "And he wants me to keep up to date with things, I guess. He won't ever tell me why he makes me go, but keeps saying 'It's for you're own good, Rhode'," she mimicked the Earl's oddly high-itched voice as best she could manage, "like some know-it-all. It's so boring! And he's annoying for not giving me a real reason. He doesn't make Tyki or Skin or the Twins go to school, just me!"

How long had she wanted to complain to someone about the Earl's policy concerning her schooling? Long enough to earn a huffy rant, it seemed. Rhode was happy to rant, it was comforting in a way.

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"That does sound quite unfair," Citan agreed, his own way of encouraging her to go on. He didn't know what he could learn from the girl, but he had always found it best to simply allow people to talk. Especially if they became heated. They guarded their tongues far less in that case.

"Why only you?"

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"It is! And I don't know why," she pouted. "Maybe because I'm the oldest, but I look the youngest." She took a stab, but though it very doubtful.

The Earl making only her go to school didn't make sense no matter how she looked at it. She was his princess! He pampered her the most, let her have what she wanted, when she wanted, without ever asking for a reason. He even did her homework for her! But even with all of that, he still demanded that she attend school along with humans. It wasn't like the Earl tried to blend in with those weaklings as he made her do. Why did she have to?

Didn't he not want them suppressing their Noah side?

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose that could be a reason," he mused, nodding to her. So she was far older than she looked. Not human then. But what? "It doesn't sound fair at all that you're forced to do this and you don't even know why. Forgive me, I'm rather forgetful, who is it that makes you attend school?"

He remembered, of course, but he hoped that she would elaborate. He was simply curious. And there was always a chance that the information could be useful to him at some point.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"The Earl!" Unfortunately for Citan, though Rhode knew more than most people, she did not know all that much about the man who had pretty much raised her. The Earl had his secrets that he kept from even her, and she respected that. If he wanted her to know things, he told her, and she sometimes allowed those secrets to slip out to others. She's teased Tyki just a little bit ago about lambs, and she had teased Allen Walker with things the Earl didn't want him to know ever since first meeting him.

Should she tease this man about the Earl? Nah, he wouldn't understand any bit of what she'd tell him if she went there. He could have some information though, since it was the Earl she'd been ranting over. "He raised me." Ever since she had become a Noah, that was.

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, well, that's a royal title, isn't it?" Citan asked, still smiling that absent-minded smile. "Or is it simply a noble title? The stations of nobility and royalty are difficult to keep straight.

"Oh, so he's like your father, then? Perhaps he really does think this is what's best for you. Fathers always try and do the best for their daughters."

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-10-02 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's not my real father at all!" she protested that, momentarily ignoring his previous questions. Farthest from it really. Thinking of the Earl as being of any real blood relation to her was sickening. He was too annoooooooying! Though, she couldn't very easily admit that her human father had been any better.

After protesting, she went back to his earlier questions. "My big brother's a Lord, and I get called Mistress a lot." "Lady" now, thanks to Lord Tamaki. Oh, that reminded her! "I'm from England," she added. For some reason, that information had set Tamaki off earlier. She wondered if it would do the same for this guy.

She shifted from side to side on her feet, swaying a bit now out of boredom. Conversation - she'd stumbled into one without intending to and now it was falling into the boring strain that caused her usual aversion to the activity. She hated the tedium no matter what form it took, and this variation was bound and set on her family.

Just saying she was bored and skipping off as she felt like doing would be too suspicious. She debated some actions in her mind - the frustration of venting now gone. Maybe continuing would make things get more interesting. How about she ask some questions for a change, hm?

"Do you like blood?" Always the best conversation starter.

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-10-03 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Citan didn't know where England was Not on Ignus, in all probability. But she seemed to be from some sort of nobility. All of this was useless information, really. But it whiled away the time.

"Hmm? Blood?" He shrugged. "In my profession, you certainly can't dislike it." He couldn't say he had any personal affection for it. Perhaps he had, in his youth, when he wielded his blade and armies fell at his feet. But now it was simply the oil that made people run, little more.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-10-03 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Rhode's attention increased. That answer had suprisingly not been in the negative. Perhaps there was some interesting conversation to be had. "Oh? You don't dislike it? What do you do? Do you kill people?" The questions came one after another, curiosity reigning stong.

Oh, if he did kill people, she may have a reason to like this human. Noah or not, there were sometimes those rare human exceptions that she liked. Not liked in the same way as Allen Walker, but in the way of liking conduct. She had her favorites from the past - murders, serial killers, tyrants - and each of those favorites had shed a good deal of blood in her eyes. That was the kind of like she was emphasizing here with her questions to Mr...

"What's your name?" she asked separate from her other questions.

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
There were certainly some that would say he killed people. And he had, in his younger days. Those days were long behind him now. Not that he didn't still take lives if needed, and there were those who died on the table, but...

"I'm Doctor Citan Uzuki," he said. "And no, I don't kill people. Not intentionally, of course! I'm a doctor. I perform surgery and amputations when need be. Though when war came, we all had to do our duty."

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
She had his name now, and he would receive hers once he asked for it. That last name sounded Japanese like Ururu's had. A lot of people here seemed to be from there. She wondered if speaking of Edo would get a reaction more like Lord Tamaki's or Ururu's, or maybe a completely new one even!

When he mentioned the war, her interest eased over to caution, and her intended questions fall to the floor. None of the Earl's forces had the need for a Doctor - Noah didn't sustain injuries for long - so that made this human before her part of the Exorcist's side. Or would have made him part of their side given what she knew. What she didn't know was what she needed to question to be sure.

"Which war?" she asked carefully.

[identity profile] reanalyze.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"The war between Aveh and Kislev," Citan responded. "I doubt you've heard of them. As far as I know, I'm the only one here from Ignas." Though there had been MOMO, who spoke of a Uzuki in her own home world. Which was still such a strange thing to think upon.

"But it was a very violent and long-lasting war."

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Her tension eased. All right, he was from another world, at least by what she wagered. Ingas did not sound as if it came from Earth. It possibly did, but there were no other Human wars in progress currently aside from the Noah and Exorcists "secret war".

"I bet there was a lot of blood!" she said, her mood returning to as it had been earlier.

Amputations and what not always made for enjoyable activity. She doubted he had as much fun as she did in that area, but it as interesting to think that he preformed similar things to her, especially since he did not seem saddened as he spoke. Any normal human would have shown some traces of sadness or regret for having to mutilate their kind. Citan had even admitted that he didn't "dislike" blood either. That gave him a little respect from Rhode's Noah side. Human nature at it's worst was deserving of recognition after all.
