Day 27: Library

Libraries, he'd found, were rarely as dull as people made them out to be.  Though he felt no magic in these tomes, they were still full of useful information.  Maybe some of them could tell him a little bit more about this world he'd landed himself in.

For that matter, why hadn't he run into any of the others yet?  They'd all been fairly close together when they'd left Rekord, but he hadn't seen a trace of any of them.  He was able to communicate easily with the people here though, which led him to believe Mokona was within a mile or so.  Unless the ones running this little game had some other way to let all these other-worldly people communicate amongst themselves.  In which case, the others could be very far away indeed.

The library had that wonderful smell of old books, and Fai traced his fingers along the shelves, skimming titles and pulling books that struck his fancy.  Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The War of the Worlds, and with a smile, he found Bram Stoker's Dracula as well.  Raven had been telling the truth then, in spite of his own lies.  Ought to be a good start.  He sat leisurely at one of the tables and began flipping through his selections.

"And are there any other theories you could tell me?"

Mousse didn't want to discredit the kill-Head-Doctor-go-home mindset, but if there was something a bit easier and maybe less of getting his hands dirty, he would be happier. If he had to kill the doctor he would, though it seemed a bit silly that he'd be the first one to try if everyone suspected that course of action.

"Of course," William smiled. None of the theories really held any of his interest, but if it entertained this boy and kept him from talking, why not. "Yet another theory is mainly getting out of the property itself by climbing the walls."

"Oh!" Mousse's face lit up. "I can do that! I just need a weight and some rope! I can build a hook of some sort and climb over! Thank you so much for the suggestion!"

He hopped to his feet and began to hightail it for the door, only to turn around and come right back. "Uhm, excuse me. I'm sorry to bother you again," he said sheepishly, "But do you know where I might find some rope?"

Well, didn't this boy have it all figured out then. Far be it from William to attempt to stop him now. The doctor fought back a laugh as the boy took off running, just how far did he expect to go?

...William's answer came when Mousse returned not a minute later. Now this was a boy to play with. The doctor gave him a good-natured smile.

"From what I have been told, it's in the basement."

"The basement?" It made sense, actually. If there wasn't any use for the rope, why leave it laying out for others to find? But where was the basement? He inquired as much from William, adding, "Is there anytime the staff is less...attentive and I could sneak by?"

Threading his fingers together, William momentarily abandoned writing down information in his notebook for the moment and allowed his polite smile to fade somewhat.

"There is, but I'm not sure you'll like what you hear," William replied, careful to keep his voice low. "Has anyone told you what events go on in the night?"

Sadly, this boy did not seem the excitable type like the previous boy from second shift was, but William would still do his best to glean even the smallest amount of fun from this boy. After all, there was nothing like manipulation to end the day.

Mousse shook his head. "No, not really. I haven't really had a chance to talk to anyone very long. Would you mind informing me?"
