Day 27: Library

Libraries, he'd found, were rarely as dull as people made them out to be.  Though he felt no magic in these tomes, they were still full of useful information.  Maybe some of them could tell him a little bit more about this world he'd landed himself in.

For that matter, why hadn't he run into any of the others yet?  They'd all been fairly close together when they'd left Rekord, but he hadn't seen a trace of any of them.  He was able to communicate easily with the people here though, which led him to believe Mokona was within a mile or so.  Unless the ones running this little game had some other way to let all these other-worldly people communicate amongst themselves.  In which case, the others could be very far away indeed.

The library had that wonderful smell of old books, and Fai traced his fingers along the shelves, skimming titles and pulling books that struck his fancy.  Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The War of the Worlds, and with a smile, he found Bram Stoker's Dracula as well.  Raven had been telling the truth then, in spite of his own lies.  Ought to be a good start.  He sat leisurely at one of the tables and began flipping through his selections.

[waiting for Tamaki~]

Bridget smiled and gestured to a nearby seat. "May we sit down?"

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre nodded. There wasn't anything worth reading, at least not at the moment. "Sounds good to me," he said. He walked to the chairs and sat down, looking at Bridget with a smile.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget sat down and settled Roger in his lap. "Can I ask you about where you come from?" He smiled. "About your world?"

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ask me anything that you like," Quatre said. He still wasn't sure if Bridget was a boy or a girl, but it wasn't as important as talking to someone and making alliances.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget's smile widened, pleased. "I was curious about the level of technology your universe had," he began. "I've been wondering just how varied everyone's homes were here."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well..." Quatre said, thinking about it. "We have the Space Colonies and mobile suits, but most of those were destroyed."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget brightened. "We have those to," he said. Finally, something familiar. "But they haven't been destroyed."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mobile suits?" Quatre asked, leaning closer. "You do? Which models?"

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget thought about it. "Basic models, used mostly for construction and transportation." He looked down and picked at the fur on Roger's ear in thought.

"Our colonies are there to aid those whose countries and lands were destroyed in the first War."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre frowned slightly. "Our mobile suits were used for battle," he said. "And our Colonies..." he paused. "My home is one of the colonies."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget frowned slightly. "The ones we have were used for warfare at first...." He smiled slightly. "But a change in the way we fought war made them useless as weapons."

He chewed on his lower lip. "The colonies are few, and are mostly government run." He looked up at Quatre. "What is your home like?"

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre thought for a moment. "The government used to control the Colonies," he said after a moment. "But we fought for our freedom. The war just ended so we're still trying to completely rebuild."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget nodded. "I'm glad to hear that you gained your freedom," he said with a smile. "I never much cared for the totalitarian styles of our government myself."

He laughed softly. "Of course, there isn't much I can do about it."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't say that, everyone can do their part to gain freedom," Quatre smiled.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget beamed. "I like to think that it's possible," he admitted. "But it's harder than I've once thought."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre nodded. "It is hard. That's what makes it worth it."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget smiled and nodded, happier than he'd been in a while. "You must have fought long and hard Quatre." He tilted his head.

"Can I call you Quatre? Or do you prefer something else?"

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quatre is fine," Quatre said with a smile. "It feels a little weird when people are more formal, doesn't it?"

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quatre it is," Bridget said. "Formality is pointless between friends right?" He looked slightly hopeful.

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre nodded at that. He liked that he could call Bridget a friend right away, it was refreshing. He knew it was better not to trust completely right away, and he wouldn't, but it was nice to sit and have a conversation.

"Do you mind if I ask about your home?"

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget smiled and nodded. "Please go ahead, I would be happy to tell you what you'd like to know."

Bridget knew that his world, his family, and his lifeweren't exciting or even very noble, but he didn't mind sharing.

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"What is it like?" he asked. "Other than the colonies and the suits, what else do you have? What's your history?"

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"We have Magic," Bridget began. "Not like in stories though, it's a mathematical equation that gives us free, unlimited energy." He smiled, but it held little humor. "That didn't stop people from fighting, and, soon, we developed new weapons that we call Gears." He fiddled with Roger's ear again. "Then things developed into a full out war between humans and Gears and the world went to hell."

Bridget sighed. "That's about it really. As for me," he shrugged and grinned. "Nothing special about me."

[identity profile] mylackofeffort.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Quatre frowned and shook his head. "That sounds horrible. In my world people don't want war anymore. They've embraced peace."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget shrugged. "We're not at war now." He smiled. "We hold tournaments now. Helps keep things under control."
