Day 27: Library
Libraries, he'd found, were rarely as dull as people made them out to be. Though he felt no magic in these tomes, they were still full of useful information. Maybe some of them could tell him a little bit more about this world he'd landed himself in.
For that matter, why hadn't he run into any of the others yet? They'd all been fairly close together when they'd left Rekord, but he hadn't seen a trace of any of them. He was able to communicate easily with the people here though, which led him to believe Mokona was within a mile or so. Unless the ones running this little game had some other way to let all these other-worldly people communicate amongst themselves. In which case, the others could be very far away indeed.
The library had that wonderful smell of old books, and Fai traced his fingers along the shelves, skimming titles and pulling books that struck his fancy. Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The War of the Worlds, and with a smile, he found Bram Stoker's Dracula as well. Raven had been telling the truth then, in spite of his own lies. Ought to be a good start. He sat leisurely at one of the tables and began flipping through his selections.

"I've heard a few theories," was what the doctor voiced aloud. One being to get yourself killed or to just do the job yourself. Wiliam had to wonder if this boy was that desperate for freedom.
...But William was tempted to tell Mousse the theory anyway. Oh so very tempted indeed.

Surely this nice man wouldn't be so mean as to keep something so important from a fellow prisoner, right? Mousse couldn't fathom any reason for the other man to want others to remain incarcerated.
no subject
Regardless of how nice it would be.
Keeping his smile in place, William nodded. "Of course, they are only theories, mind you. Do you still want to know?"

Byakko hadn't mentioned that there was a point at which the time back home unfroze, but Mousse suspected it wouldn't stay suspended forever. Just as bad as being locked away by Shampoo and her Great Grandmother would be their waking up and realizing he was out of the picture anyhow. While he knew he had SOME time, he didn't want to take any chances and come home to find Shampoo a happy bride.
no subject
"Well," William lowered his voice. "One theory is that if you kill the Head Doctor you'll be able to go home."
A theory which ultimately led to a win-win situation. If the boy failed in killing the doctor it was nothing for William to fret over, but if he succeeded then all the more freedom for William to wander the halls and do as he pleased. Whether the boy actually managed to make it back was none of his concern.
no subject
He hadn't heard too much about the actual workings of this place, being more concerned with leaving. But how would killing someone, let alone one man, get him home? Wouldn't he need the one who knew what was going on to SEND him back? And supposing he didn't, who would restart time once he got back? These were important questions. "Why would killing him get me home?"
That wasn't to say Mousse wasn't up for the task; he just didn't understand the reasoning.

no subject
Well, that didn't tell Mousse much of anything; William just reiterated that if you killed the Head Doctor, you went home, without so much as a why or a how. The Amazon didn't quite understand why he was here, but he was pretty sure that killing the guy in charge would bring all of his underlings looking for blood and NOT get him back home.
"Are you...certain?" Mousse said, not quite sure what to make of that assertion.
no subject
"No, like I said, this is just a theory. Nothing for certain." Unfortunately.
no subject
Mousse didn't want to discredit the kill-Head-Doctor-go-home mindset, but if there was something a bit easier and maybe less of getting his hands dirty, he would be happier. If he had to kill the doctor he would, though it seemed a bit silly that he'd be the first one to try if everyone suspected that course of action.

He hopped to his feet and began to hightail it for the door, only to turn around and come right back. "Uhm, excuse me. I'm sorry to bother you again," he said sheepishly, "But do you know where I might find some rope?"
no subject
...William's answer came when Mousse returned not a minute later. Now this was a boy to play with. The doctor gave him a good-natured smile.
"From what I have been told, it's in the basement."

"There is, but I'm not sure you'll like what you hear," William replied, careful to keep his voice low. "Has anyone told you what events go on in the night?"
Sadly, this boy did not seem the excitable type like the previous boy from second shift was, but William would still do his best to glean even the smallest amount of fun from this boy. After all, there was nothing like manipulation to end the day.
