Nightshift 34: F1-10 Hallway

Okay... that was creepy, thought Sheena as she stared up at the intercom. She glanced around her room nervously, balled up pieces of discarded paper strewn all over the floor by her. The man sounded like a seriously screwed up Desian that liked to toy with people... like Kvar did. Shuddering, the guardian picked up the cards she'd made with an ink-stained hand and fanned them out.

Alright... not the greatest work she'd ever done, she had to admit, but only three of them felt a little off when she concentrated on them. A few smudges of ink shouldn't matter anyways. Fanning herself once, she then folded the cards back up and looked down at her inky hands. "Stupid pen. Why did it have to break so easily? I was just trying to figure out where the ink was, NOT get it all over me. I hope I don't have any on my face..."

If she did, she was certain Raine would point it out to her. As long as the half-elf didn't do that weird lick her thumb and wipe it off thing she'd seen her do to Genis more than enough times, Sheena would be fine. If not... well... she'd glare at Raine or something. Grabbing her flashlight and cards, Sheena lamented the lack of an obi as she left her room.

Now where was F18?

Hopefully she wouldn't wake up in the morning to find out her roommate had been mauled. Or eaten. Or mauled and eaten. Gawd, wouldn't that just suck? Yuffie's first impression of Yuna had been that she was Sugar Sweet Niceness, and the ninja was also willing to bet that a bunch of the monsters here had a taste for Sugar Sweet Niceness.

Well, at any rate, she wasn't about to hang around. As much as she didn't mind her roommate and wished her the best of luck in not becoming Thing-chow, she had better things to do! Namely, not being late for a date.

Grinning, she headed off down the hallway.

Despite his still healing back, the walk to Lyta's room wasn't too bad. Fox hoped that by tomorrow night he'd be back to normal. Well, as close to normal as he could get with his back glowing.

The coat he'd put on over his shirt helped dim the light a bit, but didn't stop it entirely. He'd brought the tools with him, and his radio, so hopefully they would have two-way radios by the end of the night.

Fox knocked on Lyta's door, leaning against the wall next to it.

Lyta had dozed off after dinner, only coming to when she heard a knock at her door. Sluggish and groggy, she sat up in bed and sent out gentle feelers to see who was there. Oddly enough, it was Fox. She hadn't expected him, after their earlier conversation.

"Come in," she called, raking her hair out of her face.

Trance paused nervously outside her door, playing absently with her flashlight and watching the shapes it made as it flashed across the wall. Nothing had seemed like a good idea yet tonight, so she was... well... lost. She bit her lip and weighed her options, eventually taking a deep breath and wandering down the hallway, trusting in chance.

It was back to playing the waiting game, after another silent dinner with Lust, and Miku's own hurried thoughts, scribbled down into her journal of her plans tonight.

I hope we find something worth while to use, even if it's only a small thing, she wrote, sighing. The Head Doctor's hint intrigued her, though it was not delivered with the same je ne sais quoi as perhaps Jack would have done it. Miku checked the batteries in her cameras - both almost full as she'd not had a chance to use them properly - and set up her bag of things once more. Washu's camera was hung securely about her wrist as she laid back against her pillow, flashlight in hand.

She hoped that Sousuke would hurry.

And hurry he did. He was at her room faster than he had before, his mental state better than before, thankfully. Once Sousuke arrived outside the door, he knocked lightly and called to her.

"Hinasaki, are you awake?"

Given that there was no cake with dinner, GLaDOS was mildly disappointed (but not surprised). She ignored the announcements, as she usually did, and made her way to the door not long after her roommate vanished.

Tonight, she had plans. Tonight, there was a goal.

Tonight, she would find cake.

And maybe a rocket launcher.

Thursday hadn't had much to prepare before she left, so she was out the door and down the hall as soon as the doors unlocked. Baseball bat, torch, radio, and, as an afterthought, her pen and journal. How much help they would be in the Labyrinth was debatable, but perhaps drawing a simple map of the maze would make things a little easier.

She headed down the hall at a brisk pace. Hopefully there wouldn't be anything in their way this time.

She'd spent the last shift relaxing after what felt like a very long day. This time, having some time to herself hadn't been so bad at all and the prospect of tag tomorrow only made things better. Everyone needed a little bit of unwinding. There was too much heartache here, so maybe a game would do some good even if it was just a silly thing.

The intercom announcement was unnerving to say the least, but after a moment's hesitation she grabbed her radio along with her flashlight and stepped out into the hall.

Although most of the details were blurred, the general feeling from Yuffie's rushed intro to the nightshift still stood very clearly in Yuna's mind. Unfortunately, the doors swung open and Yuffie had left before the explanation had finished, but that was enough to shake Yuna already.

"Monsters? In a hospital?" Yuna thought. "Like fiends? Perhaps she'll be able to handle it." Yet inside, she still felt scared. Nonetheless she headed out of F4 into the unknown.

Inside F9

For once, Rangiku wasn't jumping up and getting ready to head out straight away. Instead, she simply laid out her things on top of the desk; sword, the sash and candles and last of all the elaborate shield which she set down carefully. She just hoped that they had the right idea and that they wouldn't have too many problems getting downstairs. She needed to get something done, something to hand back to people, especially her captain who seemed so tired these days. She flopped down on her bed comfortably, waiting for Renji and Lucivar and Orihime.

Renji double-checked the room number once he arrived. He didn't particularly want to go into the wrong room and get attacked again. Really, he needn't have bothered; Ran's presence was like a beacon inside the room, and a comforting one at that. He knocked on the door, just for the sake of politeness, then slipped inside.

"Hey, Ran," he said.

Rukia had eaten almost all of her dinner for a change, then set about gathering her things for the night. She found the battery things that the person on the bulletin board had mentioned and managed to open the flashlight. After some squinting and adjusting, she got the new batteries in and left the old ones on the desk. They didn't seem like they would be useful without the light.

She arched her eyebrow at the Head Doctor's comment about a particular item that might be found, but she was not assigned to go outside. Perhaps others would have better luck. Maybe that was what Renji was planning for the night...?

As the doors unlocked, Rukia headed out at steady, quiet pace.

Shana shook her head as the head doctor cackled maniacally over the radios, her lips curved into a small frown. As much as she wanted to get outside and explore, she had more important goals to see to tonight.

Outside would have to wait.

Gathering her belongongs - her radio, her geode tucked into one robe pocket, her radio in the other - she grabbed her jagged-ended staff and headed for the door. She was prepared for whatever they'd encounter tonight. She had to be. She was determined that they get Shadow back at all costs.

Elena allowed the other girl to leave without comment, only afterwards wondering if perhaps she should have asked for the quickest way to get to the mens' rooms. The two announcements had only made her nervous, and she was anxious to get moving. However, she didn't want to go unprepared. If this was going to be a special operation, perhaps she could find something of use in the room. After all, Turks had to be prepared, right?

Taking her notebook and a couple pens, she stuck them in her pocket. The radio seemed useful too... perhaps Rude could rewire them to communicate in case they got separated. The flashlight she kept in her hand. There wasn't much that would make a useful weapon, so she'd have to rely on her hand to hand combat skills in case of any guards.

Now to find Reno. She took off down the hallway at a somewhat brisk pace, but cautiously keeping her eyes ahead.

[identity profile] theycutitout.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
River woke up. Her eyes had been opened for days, hours, months, years... But it was with a start that she suddenly and abruptly woke up. She could feel everything piling up on top of itself on the brink of collapsing. It was now. Now or never, and if her feet wouldn't move in that very second, she was doomed.

Luckily, it seemed that they would despite the quickening of her heart rate and sweat dampening her palms. With pillow stripped of it's case and the last of her trusty pens tucked into her boots, River slipped out of the room, having been sure of course to change into her green dress and boots, and down the hallway.

He arrived in Ran's hallway with minimal difficulty and tried to keep to the shadows. It felt like the other shinigami were still nearby, from what little he could tell. He was ready to slip into one of the other doors just in case, but from what he knew of the way the others operated, it would probably be a little while before their entire party arrived, leaving him plenty of time to prepare as well.

Matsumoto's hallway was the same as her own, so it took almost no time for them to go from one place to the other. She passed her flashlight back and forth across the walls just in case. She caught the edge of a familiar pant leg and sighed a little at the way her heart skipped a beat over the shadow. She raised it a little higher. "Is that you Matsumoto-sa--"

Her heart decided that another three beats were entirely unnecessary. Everything came rushing back in a tidal wave that made Orihime swallow hard to get her voice working again. "Ichimaru-san."

There were a lot of people out in the hall when Kagura finally poked her head out and snuck out the door. Bridget hadn't shown up, which worried her some, but she didn't know his room number, so she'd thought it might be best to wait. After several minutes of nothing, she decided to gather her things and go find Star Dragon Sword. He'd probably be cranky that she was late...

Kagura sighed and shut her door behind her.

He didn't have to wait long. Once Inoue had stepped inside, he followed, though he maintained his distance. Wouldn't do to frighten the girl to death.

"Th' ribs on this side need mendin'," he explained, putting his hand over the left side of his chest. "An' there's a gash on th' back. Nothin' much for a healer a' your level, ne?" Raising an eyebrow in question he asked, "Y'need to see it or do I jus' keep standin' here?"

It was strange. Being alone in a room with Ichimaru, however briefly, didn't really feel the same as being trapped at all. She let some of the tension ebb away despite herself. She wasn't really afraid of him, just unhappy with a lot of the memories he seemed to conjure in her all at once. But really, this place wasn't so unlike the one she'd come from.

She moved over to one of the beds and sat down cross-legged. Ururu would be mad at her if she passed out again, so she had to make sure to give it her best without overdoing it. She frowned and nodded at Ichimaru. The ribs first then. "You can sit down if you want. I need to know exactly where and how large the area is if you can tell me. They're not broken are they? I think I'm limited to one break at a time, and it's still a bit tender after that." Even while she spoke her hair clips glowed, and she took a silent moment to collect herself while her ShunShunRikka formed the usual oval where his hand had been.

Max waited until her roommate left to gather her few belongings - none of which were very important, although she did tuck her radio in her waistband, out of habit. Even though she wasn't entirely won over by this new chick that had taken Jack's spot. Something seemed fishy about that.

All the same, she had new areas to roam, and she had every intention of exploring them so, casting one last quick glance about her room, she turned and headed out into the hall, moving in darkness, her steps stealthy and silent, so as to attract no notice as she went.

With no set plans and little motivation to go mucking about the institute alone, Lust was rather late in getting herself up and about. She was learning she still had a distaste for any sort of organized outings - it smacked too much of control for her liking - and so she dozed for a while before arming herself and heading out into the hallways.

Perhaps Dias or 'John' was still lingering in one of their hallways.... Or Gluttony. She'd make her way over to the men's barracks and see what she could scare up in terms of company for the evening.
