Nightshift 34: F1-10 Hallway

Okay... that was creepy, thought Sheena as she stared up at the intercom. She glanced around her room nervously, balled up pieces of discarded paper strewn all over the floor by her. The man sounded like a seriously screwed up Desian that liked to toy with people... like Kvar did. Shuddering, the guardian picked up the cards she'd made with an ink-stained hand and fanned them out.

Alright... not the greatest work she'd ever done, she had to admit, but only three of them felt a little off when she concentrated on them. A few smudges of ink shouldn't matter anyways. Fanning herself once, she then folded the cards back up and looked down at her inky hands. "Stupid pen. Why did it have to break so easily? I was just trying to figure out where the ink was, NOT get it all over me. I hope I don't have any on my face..."

If she did, she was certain Raine would point it out to her. As long as the half-elf didn't do that weird lick her thumb and wipe it off thing she'd seen her do to Genis more than enough times, Sheena would be fine. If not... well... she'd glare at Raine or something. Grabbing her flashlight and cards, Sheena lamented the lack of an obi as she left her room.

Now where was F18?

When Lyta gave him permission to enter Fox slipped carefully into the room. He managed to make it over to the chair without limping, and sat down.

"Ed never put anything on the board," He still wasn't sure if Ed had simply failed to put a plan in motion or if the kid was trying to keep other people from getting involved.

"However, I did bring you something," Fox said, digging out the tools he'd stolen from the janitor's closet on the second floor so many nights ago.

Lyta just shrugged. She really, really didn't want to hear anything about the whole situation. She'd made her standpoint as clear as she could.

"Presents already?" Lyta smiled a little, knowing full well he probably had supplies. "You sure know how to woo a girl."

"You mentioned last time that we should try to make two-way radios," Lyta wasn't doing anything else at night, and Fox wasn't feeling up to going out looking for trouble tonight in his current condition. "And I don't have any idea when your birthday is." Or what the current date was, but that was beside the point. "So it's an early christmas." Or a late one, perhaps.

He set the tools and his radio on Lyta's desk. If they could do this, at least he would have gotten something productive done. "This is all ancient technology for you, isn't it?" If it was, Fox would probably be on his own here.

Lyta pushed herself off the bed and looked down at the tools. "December 20th," she said, her tone a bit distracted. "So either one works." She didn't bother mentioning that birthdays weren't something celebrated in the Corps.

"And yeah, this is pretty old stuff. A good few centuries at least." She peered over his shoulder, frowning a little. "But I've got some experience with radio equipment. It can't be that different than what I'm used to...."

"It's a bit outdated for me a well, but I've used technology around this level," Fox had some basic knowledge of radios, but he'd never gone into it in depth.

He grabbed one of the tools and began to work on getting the radio opened up so they could take a look at the parts they were dealing with. It was possible it would be more advanced on the inside than it appeared on the outside. Not likely, but possible.

""Well, between the two of us, we should be able to figure something out." How hard could it really be? Older stuff was less technical than what she was used to, so it stood to reason it'd be pretty simple.

Besides, if she really needed to know something, she could just get it out of Fox's head.

As far as she was concerned, there was nothing wrong with that. Not with the access Fox had already allowed her - it wasn't trespassing. It was like looking in your boyfriend's bathroom cabinet for a painkiller.

Once the inner workings of the radio were exposed, Fox spent a moment examining it. "Doesn't look too complicated," He was by no means a specialist in this department, but looking at this, Fox decided it wouldn't be too difficult to modify.

"No, it doesn't," Lyta agreed, leaning over to peer into the insides. "It's messy as hell, though." She didn't know if she'd even be able to control something like that, if she had all of her powers. Was old technology really that...cluttered? It was nothing like the clean, efficient electronics she was used to.
