Night 29: Main Hallway 2-East
[From here.]
William continued on out of the stairwell before looking around the area that they had passed through several nights before. Nothing had changed, it appeared, though that meant little in this place. William grinned and glanced over his shoulder at Wesker as he began walking.
"I am curious," he started, careful to keep his voice lowered. "Just how long do you think it would take for a man's will to break if an outside influence constantly causes his hopes to rise and fall?"

There were two men, the first one asking something ridiculous when they passed through the door. Aya didn't pause to find out more about them. As of now, they were of no interest to him.
It seemed the hallways beyond this were quiet, and dark. He paused for a moment to consider his course of action. Despite his new shoulder injury, he was in better health than possibly once since arriving at Landel's. A quick scrutiny before dinner had cemented his hesitant guess, and perhaps a wish as well, into a solid fact; the knife wound at his side was no more. The several stabbing wounds at his other side were busily healing so much that in other situations, it would have been sufficient to cover the wound with a light bandage. However, he had pulled wrappings tight, just in case.
He was alone but he could take on a monster or two. Unfortunately it'd mean wasting the batteries of his flashlight. Sighing, he moved on hesitantly flicking on his flashlight to sweep the floors clean of shadows and unknown. There was no helping it. Whatever useless business he'd find tonight, he'd better get on with it.

"Why are you asking?" Wesker wanted to know where this had come from. William didn't seem concerned, because he was grinning.
When Birkin was grinning, though, there was usually something to be concerned about.

Ken paused again at the top of the stairs, moving further into the hallway and looking in each direction. His destination was straight ahead as he came off the stairs.
However, he caught sight of Aya in the glow of his flashlight. He at least knew where he was going, now. He didn't like the idea of Aya wandering around alone.

There were other people in the hall, further on, but that hadn't bothered her any. She held a breath as the sound died out and looked to the closest hallway. Here, she knew, is where things became especially dangerous.
Still...
...Still, she should have asked for some help, she realized with a look back at the stairwell. No... No, she had to move forward. Help could come later.

It didn't take long to go up the stairs, even using caution. Here, Gin had noticed, even when using caution, there was sometimes little one could do. Still, his cold blue eyes flicked up and down the stairs, following the beam of his flashlight as they went.

Sousuke exited the stairwell and immediately flattened himself against the wall. No telling what was there, waiting for him.
Besides Mousse. Maybe the man wouldn't see him and he could continue on his way...?

They took the stairs slowly and carefully, Allen in the lead, on alert for the slightest sound or movement that might be an enemy. Rinali was doing well, he had to give her that. He didn't know if he could be up on his feet again so soon after an incident like that.
"Stay close," he cautioned as they reached the hallway of the second floor. Last time, this was where he'd run into that awful ghost woman. And the second night he was here, that child with the mask had been down one of these halls as well. It was starting to seem like a very bad idea, but the others were counting on him. If he could do this much... it meant their escape would come that much sooner.

This hallway was quiet, but Logan could sense that others had passed through here not too long ago. He turned and motioned for Parker to follow. They were at an impasse now, unless the younger man recognised anything here.
"Any o' this look familiar to ya?"

Sai and Usopp's steps were easy enough to follow, one set quick and light, clearly accustomed to manouevres in the dark, and the other set a good bit less subtle. It did help that Sasuke had explored this part of the Institute.
'Across the hallway' didn't really do Sasuke that much good without a distinct left or right, but he wasn't leading at the moment, which was a little annoying but inevitable.

Thursday had never actually been on the second floor before. She wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but the sight of yet more hallways stretching out before her was, if not surprising, still a little depressing.
But she didn't have time to reflect on that. Glancing back briefly at Farfarello and MOMO, she paused to check the map again before heading onward.

Though he was still a bit unsteady, Zelnick held himself as straight as he could, rubbing at his scratched shoulder.
"Well, if there's worse than those, I'll try not to get in your way." He tried to smile as he followed Yuber towards the stairs, and tried even harder not to consider what could be worse. What the hell was this place?

Entering the hall now, he tried to recall the exact way. Just the night before he'd come up here and ran into a terrifying half human monstronsity. Now there were just a few other patients and the sounds of people further down the way. None of them concerned him and he stepped lightly to avoid them.
Down this hall, take a left, straight and to the end. There was the morgue and from the morgue, the autopsy rooms where blades and various metal waited. Quick work would have to be done, because there were bound to be other places to search tonight.

Sousuke kept running, not looking back to see if Mousse was following. He was back in Russia, then in Afghanistan, then in Cambodia. Miku was still the Whispered girl lying face-down in the snow.

Empty.
"The first left," Rena murmured, directed to no one in particular. "Then the second door on the left." Her heart felt lodged up in her throat as they drew closer, but the girl had no intention of stopping.

Well. And that was the limit of his knowledge, for the most part. From here it would be guesswork.
"There's something listed as Disciplinary Therapy rooms and that sounds rather ominous," Xelloss suggested. He lowered his map to show it to Quatre as well. "Shall we check there first, just in case?"

When one had been raised in the same fashion as Aidou had, one learned to appreciate all things intellectual. Nothing but facts and figures all day, every day, and if the noble wasn’t always a diligent student, it was simply because the material covered at Cross Academy was too juvenile for him. Memorizing maps from a few glances? Simple.
At the top of the stairs, Aidou barely paused. The hallway always smelled like blood up here. No two-headed, fire-breathing creature this time, however.

This part of the hallway between the intersection and stairwell was relatively short, and they were upon the door to the stairs in no time. Logan flung it open and once again checked for threats before slipping into the stairwell, once more holding the door open for the others to follow.

Sasuke followed the wall until he found the right stairwell, moving slowly enough that he could keep track of both sets of (laborious-sounding still, to his irritation) footsteps behind him.
At least the patient quarters were relatively monster-free, usually.

Bella couldn’t help when her heart began to pound as she neared the place she had been attacked that horrible first night, a soft sigh escaping her lips. Now was not the time to be getting out of hand. “Let’s see …” she whispered, pointing her flashlight to the right, “Let’s go … this way.”
And so she went.

It was pleasing to see that there was a distinct lack of rodents (or anything else) running around when they reached the top of the stairs since it made their travels far easier. Smirking subtly at the thought, Yuber slipped down the hallway until he came across the second one on the left. Without pause the Black Knight turned to continue down there.

As Claude stepped out into the hallway, he glanced around, being sure to quickly sweep his flashlight beam around them. Looked like the coast was clear.
Asch's appearance had been sudden, though not entirely unexpected, once Claude thought about it. After all, he was Luke's twin brother, right? Of course he'd want to help out! It was only natural for people to want to protect their own blood, after all.
Still, sometimes Claude got the feeling there was more going on than he realized, and it had been one of the reasons he'd decided not to ask Asch to come on his supply hunt tonight. (Of course, it was highly possible Asch wouldn't have wanted to come in the first place anyway, but that was beside the point.)
He wasn't opposed to having Asch come along, though. Not by a long shot! After all, there was some merit in what they said about safety in numbers. And if there was the remote chance that Luke was in danger, they were going to need all the help they could get! Plus Asch seemed like the kind of guy who could look after himself, which was definitely a plus for rescue missions.
He began leading the way down the hall, listening to see if Asch or Guy said anything.

"It's not a problem," Sousuke replied automatically to Miku's question. He winced as he remembered saying that so many times to Kaname. But there had always been a problem, hadn't there? He should have protected her... then they wouldn't be in this situation now!
He shook his head to clear the thought. Not now. Not when he was leading civilians out of danger.
Sousuke looked down the hallway, not breaking stride, and satisfied with the lack of monster activity, continued.
"Stairs," He said over his shoulder, mostly to Mousse. Miku really didn't have a choice. The sergeant entered the stairwell.

Stairs at last! Rinali ran down them as quickly as she could.
