Night 29: Main Hallway 2-East

[From here.]

William continued on out of the stairwell before looking around the area that they had passed through several nights before. Nothing had changed, it appeared, though that meant little in this place. William grinned and glanced over his shoulder at Wesker as he began walking.

"I am curious," he started, careful to keep his voice lowered. "Just how long do you think it would take for a man's will to break if an outside influence constantly causes his hopes to rise and fall?"

The whole story Logan had to tell was really disconcerting, and it made him wonder who he would have seen if he'd been visited. There were a few people that came to mind right away, and he was even more glad that he had missed out now that he knew more of the details. That letter, then... Had it been from someone who looked, acted, and sounded like Mary Jane? Or his aunt? And the letter that Eddie had received -- but he hadn't recognized the picture that had come with it, had he?

Peter was deep in thought as he climbed the last step onto the second floor. He definitely wanted to hear more about what his roommate had been through, but at the moment they needed to focus on finding those captured patients.

At the question, he took a quick look around before shaking his head. "I was on the other side of the building when I came up here. The rooms we're looking for could be anywhere," he said, a little grimly. Sucky chances, but they might just get lucky.

"Pick a direction at random, I guess," he finished with a shrug.

His eyes adjusted well to the lack of light as usual, but at the moment Logan focused on his sense of smell as he half-listened to Parker. It seemed the younger man wasn’t able to offer anything else about where they now were, but Logan might be able to put his tracking skills to some use here.

“Hol’ up a sec, kid. Lemme see what I c’n see.” He tilted his head back slightly and inhaled deeply, then exhaled before sniffing like a dog. There were distinct scents here, both male and female, at least one of them somewhat familiar. Sweat, fear, adrenaline. The only problem was, the scents led in both directions. And his confidence had taken a blow by his ‘incorrect’ reading of Xavier’s scents earlier. But dammit, he couldn’t just sit here feeling unsure of himself.

“Huh. I got scents, but they ain’ too well defined. An’ they seem ta branch off both ways.” He reasoned for a moment, then spoke up again. “Judgin’ by tha layout o’ tha floor below us, this place is wider than it is long, right? Tha’ North-South halls’re shorter than tha East-West ones. So if we take tha next left, we got less groun’ ta cover than if we head straight. If it’s a dead en’, we c’n always double back, or turn an…keep goin’ along.” Logan’s speech slowed towards the end of that sentence as he realised that they may have to do a full loop of the top floor when the rooms could be just ahead, which would take up a lot of time. He let out a breath. “Tha’s about tha best I c’n come up with.”

While Peter knew he couldn't exactly judge Logan for being able to catch smells like a dog when he could shoot web like a spider, it was still pretty weird. That didn't mean it wasn't handy, though it looked like everything was too mixed up for the other man to pinpoint a specific path for them to take. That made sense - there were a lot of other patients going in countless different directions. Trying to find one particular trail and follow it couldn't be easy.

Listening to Logan's reasoning, Peter just shrugged. "I'm fine with that. We have no clue where the rooms are, so it doesn't really matter where we go. We either get lucky or we don't." In other words, he was willing to go with what his roommate had decided on, since he certainly didn't have any better ideas.

"Alrigh' then, kid. Le's move ou' n' see where tha road takes us." They would have to move fast, but scour each area they entered at the same time, which would take more time than just sprinting down the halls.

Logan figured he could probably see better than his companion, and decided to take the lead based on this. He moved off at a slight jog, staying low to the ground as he usually did.
