Night 29: Main Hallway 2-East

[From here.]

William continued on out of the stairwell before looking around the area that they had passed through several nights before. Nothing had changed, it appeared, though that meant little in this place. William grinned and glanced over his shoulder at Wesker as he began walking.

"I am curious," he started, careful to keep his voice lowered. "Just how long do you think it would take for a man's will to break if an outside influence constantly causes his hopes to rise and fall?"

It didn't take much to figure out why Claude had seemed momentarily glad to see him. By all accounts, Asch should have been used to it; it hadn't been the first time someone had mistaken him for Luke, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Still, as irritated as it continued to make him when that mistake was made, now wasn't the best time to say anything in regards to that.

So, Asch settled for a short nod that accompanied his saying, "Yes, I found it," as he replied to Claude's question.

That, however, was all he said before becoming quiet once more. He was perfectly fine with keeping silent for the rest of trip into the experiemental halls, if that's what was going to happen. He had never been one for talking much in the first place, and at least he hadn't been questioned as to why he had been the one to join the two blonds as they searched for Luke.

"Oh, I see," Claude remarked once he heard Asch's reply. It was all he could say, really, aside that he was glad he left some kind of note for other people to find. Of course, judging from the silence on Guy's end, he wasn't really sure if it would have been appreciated, so he just left it at that.

Not to mention the fact that this was the exact set-up he'd been trying to avoid in the first place. But this could be an emergency, so it wasn't like it could be helped. And at any rate, he was grateful to have an extra hand.

At least everyone was being civil, even if things were kind of tense. But given the situation, that was very understandable. Who knew? Maybe his imagination was just running away with him again. It certainly wouldn't have been the first time.

Either way, it wasn't like it mattered right then. They had a job to do, and time was of the essence.

"Come on," he said after a moment. "This way."
