Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

Well, this day had been nominally bittersweet. Miku prodded her dinner with quiet contemplation, wondering what to do about Sousuke. The Doctor was cheerfully spewing bull pucky as usual, she'd beaten her roommate to the punch about dinner. And.

Miku looked over her shoulder at the empty bed - her nurse seemed to pride herself on getting Miku to her room first - and wondered if she could get some advice that wasn't caustic or grating from her roommate. Lust seemed to have understanding of the other men, but would she really help or just make Miku so mad she threw her dinner at her?

Miku sighed and pushed her vegetables around on her plate. It was probably going to be the latter, rather than the former. Even if the photographer didn't have a single temper-bone in her body. If Lust yelled back, then Miku would probably just cower.

And if she kept thinking like this, she wasn't going to be able to eat.

For once, since Scar's disappearance, Lust was feeling more at peace with herself. She attributed the change in mood to Luxord, and their conversation (and flirtatious banter) at brunch. She supposed now she could pursue him, if she so desired. There was no harm in keeping a lover around while stuck in this place after all.

She allowed herself to be led back to her room at the end of the day, wondering if Hohenheim would be by again tonight, or if she should see about finding the pale haired gambler and seeing if he truly did want her company this evening...

She ignored her roommate, as usual, and went to her desk to inspect dinner.

Tony ostentatiously replaced the recorder he'd borrowed from the Music Room in its box. The oh-so-nice nurse didn't even notice his stolen one in the back of his pants, because it has been there the entire time untouched. Even if it looked like his magic was gone, he still had been glad of the music.

As soon as she brought his dinner of steak and pie with apple juice, Tony arranged it all on his desk. He wanted to see what Kvothe had to say after his first real day at the Institute. When he didn't think about the bigger picture, he worried less about himself, about his new friends, and about Tia.

Re: M9

[identity profile] sir-savien.livejournal.com 2008-10-26 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Kvothe looked thoughtful as he returned, sorting through everything he's seen in his head. The library had proved useless but he wondered how he could use the supplies in the arts and crafts room. Maybe he could get into the staff's supply closets as well, overnight. He hoped, anyway.

"Hi," he said as he dropped into his desk chair and eyed the dinner with interest. He hadn't eaten anything like that in years.

Despite the rather large meal he'd eaten at brunch, Leon was starving by the time he got to his room. The time he'd spent exercising on the Rec Field had helped clear his mind, though he was still worried about what would happen when night fell. As soon as the nurse had left, Leon checked the drawer of his desk, making sure that the tranquilizers were still there. Maybe that's where he'd go tonight, if nothing happened, see about finding more doses.

With a goal in mind, Leon turned to his meal. The one bright point about this place: great food. He kept an eye on the door as he ate, waiting for Yohji to come back. Hopefully the other man would be less upset by the time he got back. Leon wasn't terribly good at dealing with very emotional people.

Re: M49

[identity profile] never-learns.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yohji wasn't feeling any better by the time the nurses dragged them out of the courtyard, and the nurse talking about how nice it had been for 'Mr Hunt' to come and see him and wasn't he glad? For a moment, he had to suppress a flash of near homicidal rage that she could even speak about it like that, and he could understand why Ken had fallen so far as to look forward to killing, to enjoy it, because he would love to feel his wire tightening around the bitch's throat.

He managed to compose himself before entering his room though. No-one else needed to know after all, no-one else he wasn't close to at least, which seemed to be becoming a dwindling number. He smiled faintly, awkwardly at Leon. Feeling a surge of guilt for not managing to do anything last night to help him. "Hey."

Sheena's small nap in the courtyard after making up with Soubi had been nice, but she was still a little sleepy when the nurse took her back to her room. She had the drawings Soubi had given her folded in half, which she put in her desk drawer, and then she laid eyes on her dinner.

Her eyes got huge. "Oh, wow..."

The ninja only ever had steak when she was in Meltokio at Zelos' or he felt like treating her. Such food was only really affordable by the rich,so to see it here was something. She wasn't going to question that something. This ranch might be evil, but it has steak. Sheena sat down and delved into her meal with a grin. The meat was a little overdone for her tastes, but it was still steak and it still tasted very yummy.

She'd start on her spell cards once she was done savoring the expensive, ruch-man's meal.

[identity profile] brightlyshine.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
She was more than a little upset. As if Tamaki hadn't already thrown her through a loop at brunch, and visiting with Tseng had made things ten times worse. When Elena was led back to the room, she quickly crawled onto the bed, sitting with her knees tucked against her chest, ignoring her food.

She was a Turk... she shouldn't be crying over something so trivial. But her eyes stung anyways.

She hadn't been expecting it, but talking to Light had somehow allowed Beatrix to accept that Skuld was indeed a goddess - certainly not a goddess from ex-assassin's world, but one from the young girl's own one. She wasn't going to actually tell Skuld that, but it did mean she had to talk to the Norn again, for reasons that had come up at chapel that morning with the warlord.

The steak was a nice change of pace and the Bride sat at her desk to eat it. She was waiting for Maki to return and eat as well before she brough the sword out to show the other woman. It made her wonder what her roommate would think about it.

Naomi was glad to be back to her room at the end of the day. She was still going over what she'd discussed earlier in the day, all the strange things people told her about other worlds. Nothing had ever prepared her for sorting this kind of information.

Back in the room she shared with Arlene, she took a seat and turned to the other woman.

"I've got company coming over tonight," she said, fishing the cigarettes out of a drawer. "Want one?"

Momo had been so very, very reluctant to leave Hitsugaya when the shift changed and the nurses came to collect them. She'd see him tomorrow, though, and she had a mission to complete. She had faith that Artemis would take care of Hitsugaya until the sedatives wore off. The nurses had confiscated the three markers she'd taken from the Arts & Crafts room, but that was fine. After drawing the fire bird on her cast, she didn't need them anymore.

The shinigami was rather pleased to see Anya was already asleep when she got back to the room. She was in too good of a mood to have it dashed by the oni's pessimistic and unorthodox views on things, so this was for the best. She quietly ate her meal, so as not to disturb her roommate, and then changed into her uniform. Once that was done, she went about the tedious task of cleaning the Noah's blood from her sword. Thankfully, she'd gotten that extra glass of water she'd asked for.

When Falis had to leave Hokuto and the Sun Room, she delayed long enough that her nurse started taking her back at the same time Yukari's nurse gathered her. This was going to take a bit of acting, pretending to be an enthusiastic teenager with the overly friendly and talkative vulture, but it'd be worth it. Sure, she'd have some explaining to do to Yukari the next day, but if it all worked out, that would be a acceptable consequence of her actions to deal with.

So, along the way to her room, the bounty hunter making sure she was close behind Yukari, she chatted about her day, the game she won, with her nurse. Since this was really the first time the princess had responded positively to the nurse, she was smiling and responding well. As they neared the hallway where her room was, Falis put her plan into action.

"Oh yeah! I also met this really awesome girl today."

"That's wonderful, Rose. Making connections and having fun are keys to recovery."

"Mmhmm! Her name's Yukari," Falis said as Yukari and her nurse slowed down at F29. Acting as if she'd just noticed the other girl there, Falis grinned huge and waved to Yukari enthusiastically, like they were the bestest friends in the world. "Oh hey, Yukari! I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" She gave the girl another grin, a tinge of her wildness showing through since Falis could only act so much, as she was ushered along down the hallway.

"I'm glad you made a friend, Rose," her vulture continued, patting Falis on the arm, "but you need to make sure you use her actual name, not just a nickname."

"...but she told me her name's Yukari."

"Sorry, dear, but her name is Kara. It'll do you both a lot of good to use those names."

"Oh... ok." Begin phase two. "Oh! Who's Kara's roommate? I didn't get a chance to ask her earlier and I think it'd be real neat for the three of us to hang out sometime. Maybe the next time we can go out and play in the field."

The nurse shook her head slightly. "I'm sorry, Rose, but Danielle was released this morning. Kara will be getting a new roommate as soon as we recieve new patients."

Outwardly, Falis pouted as if disappointed, but inwardly she was smirking. Success! Sure 'Danielle' was gone, but she'd gotten part of the name and knew where to get the other part that night. "Oh... that's a good thing, right?"

"Of course it is, dear. Danielle got better. Take her story to heart and soon you'll be able to go back home. Maybe you'll even be able to make it back in time for the championhip game. I know you're teammates would be thrilled to have their star back by then," the nurse said, patting Falis again. "Now take care to not get into a fight with your roommate again and enjoy your meal. The steak is excellent and a favorite of mine."

Falis smiled and nodded, rubbing her bandaged shoulder a little. "Okay. Thanks!"

The nurse left and the bounty hunter sat down to devour her meal. With the vulture gone, the act dropped and Falis had the biggest smirk plastered on her face. See - she'd been right; it had been easy.

A frustrated Senna came in to Alita acting like the cat that caught the canary. Great. At least one of them was happy.

Takaya was all but carried bodily into his room, the sedatives making him woozy and blurring the world at the edges. That, coupled with the shock, made him much more compliant than usual as he was set down on his bed.

As a precaution, the staff started to restrain him to his bed and he began to fight and struggle against the five-point straps, but another half-dose of sedatives and pain-killers calmed him down once more.

Takaya was now strapped to his bed, wrists and ankles tied down with another strap across his midsection. The nurse apologized and smoothed back his hair, but, she added, it was for his own safety as well as the safety of his roommate. He didn't want to hurt his friend did he?

Her words fell on deaf ears. Both sides had retreated into the deeper parts of their shared mental landscape.

Re: M15

[identity profile] dawn-rune.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Frey immediately ran to Takaya's side, when he saw the state his roommate was in. He demanded answers from the nurse, but all she told him was that Takaya had been "sedated" and restrained "for safety's sake." He was left with strict instructions not to loose Takaya's restraints--instructions he ignored as soon as the door was closed behind the nurse.

It was tricky, though, undoing the nearest wrist restraint without touching Takaya. Getting the far one would be impossible. Maybe one would be enough, and Takaya could do the rest himself? It certainly didn't look that way... "Takaya? Takaya, can you hear me...?"

Zelnick really hadn't wanted to stop hanging out with Xigbar-- he honestly enjoyed the guy's company, not to mention the way his company could distract him from the 'high' spirits the visit from Talana-- Tanya-- had left him in.

On the other hand, apple pie sounded incredibly delicious, as did steak, and he set into the stuff with evident enjoyment. Not quite home cooking, but he'd take what brightness he could get, tonight.

After all, it seemed like he'd have to be cheerful for two.

More dead animal for dinner. Steak sounded pretty good to Kenren. He hadn't tried it before, but he was, as always, open to new experiences. He grinned at Zelnick when he entered the room, going to slide into his seat and grab the tray. Then he frowned. One arm. This was going to be more difficult than he'd anticipated. Great.

"So, how was your day?" he asked, while attempting to cut the steak up into manageable pieces with one hand. He could always take the sling off, but it would hurt and he wasn't certain how much it would actually move.

Melissa was feeling much more relaxed and cooperative after her conversation with Ren, which she knew would help come nightfall when she was once again bombarded with the collective feelings of all the prisoners. It was still relatively quiet at that point, and she managed to halfway focus on what her nurse was saying as she was led back to the rooms.

"...we were so worried you wouldn't manage to make any friends, Kaylie, you're always so quiet and withdrawn. It's so nice to see you have people to talk to, it's going to help so much with your recovery."

"My name isn't Kaylie," was Melissa's muttered response, but as usual, the nurse either ignored it or didn't hear it. Sometimes she wondered how the nurses could go on believing - or at least pretending to believe- nothing went on at night with all the clues staring them right in their cheerful faces.

Claire wasn't in the room yet, she noted as they drew closer. Even after only a few nights, Melissa had gotten used to the girl being there already. It helped a little, having something to distract her from the growing anticipation surrounding her. She was just going to have to wait this time. Wait and pick at food she still wasn't comfortable eating, especially after how Landel said 'steak' on the intercom.

What a boring day this had been.

Callisto actually yawned as she walked into her room, though she wasn't particularly tired. It was more a sign of lack of stimulation than anything. Dinner did look promising, though. Nothing like a nice slab of meat to get the night started off on the right foot.

But what to do tonight? As one of only five people, as far as she knew, that could access the area she really wanted to get to, she was going to have to regroup with patients that were clearly not fond of her by now or set out on her own. She wouldn't mind the latter if she was better equipped, but for now... Well, she supposed that was a bridge she'd have to cross when she got to it.

His visitor left ZEX drained and deeply depressed, to the extent where he could not find the energy to move himself when the nurses told him it was time to go. They eventually took his arm and supported him as they lead him back to his room, and ZEX could barely find the presence of mind to walk in a straight line. He leaned on her heavily, lost in thought over the entire experience.

"Don't worry, he'll be back next week, Max. It'll be alright," she tried to make him feel better, but ZEX wasn't listening.

When in his room, he slumped down in his chair and rested his head against his desk, and didn't move when she brought him his food. He opened his journal, wrote a few words then just let his hand collapse. Every now and then, he made a brief attempt to eat something, a piece of broccoli here and there. Over time even that was too much for him, and he just stopped moving entirely, head buried in his arms.

ZEX wanted to go home.

There was much buzzing in the halls about 'visitors' or 'guests'; from what Kunzite could piece together from the fragments of conversation, Landel and his staff somehow brought the 'patients' individuals whom they recognized from their original worlds. "No doubt some other form of hypnotic suggestion," he muttered under his breath, passing it off as jealous banter when questioned by the nurse escorting him to his room. His roommate was already inside, presumably resting from a long, exhaustive day. The swordsman sat on his bed, removing his notebook from the back pocket to jot down some observations on the day.

The arrival of supper did not distract him initially; brunch was extremely filling - and interesting, to say the least - but the tantalizing smell of the stake was difficult to resist for long. Closing the book and placing it on his desk, he moved to stand, but noted that Zex had barely attempted to partake of his own dinner, and still remained in his initial position. Something was amiss.

"Excuse me," Kunzite started, moving toward his roommate's half of the quarters but remaining somewhat distant nonetheless, "are you well? Do I need to procure some sort of medical treatment for you?"

By the time dinner rolled around, the sedatives had all but worn off. The chef laid back on his bed and stared at the ceiling, uncharacteristically ignoring his dinner as it was brought for him. He knew he should eat it, since he hadn't gotten brunch, and he would... once he could force himself to.

Nami was gone. Released, they said. He told himself it had to be a better setting than what she'd been in here. It had to be, or he'd kill someone.

He had to focus on other things. Like getting out of here. If he continued to mope around he wasn't going to be of any use to his crew - and they'd need him even more now that their navigator was gone.

Light had been a little subdued when he stepped into their room for dinner, but compared to the stupor Sanji seemed to have fallen into, it was nothing. It didn't seem entirely prudent to disturb his roommate just yet, though, so focusing on his food and on reviewing the days events in his mind, he settled at his desk and began to eat. Steak wasn't what he would have chosen for the night's meal, but he couldn't exactly deny that the Head Doctor's assessment had some grain of truth to it.

Once he deemed a sufficient amount of time had passed, he said, "You're unusually quiet. Did something happen?" It wasn't exactly the most subtle approach, but maybe that would help snap Sanji out of it.

Finally a meal that looked worthy enough to attempt eating.

Scar immediately began on his steak after entering his room. Though it wasn't as good as the zebras back home, it was certainly much better than anything else these hairless apes came up with. It was no surprise that he outright ignored the fries and vegetables, and only spared a glance at the dessert after he had finished the meat.

Not touching it for now, he began looking for his light stick and his 'weapon', mostly for the lack of having anything else to do. He hadn't so much as exchanged a word with his roommate, whoever that man might be, and he supposed tonight wouldn't be too different in that regard.

Even in his somewhat clumsy state, finding the items hadn't taken all that long. With an annoyed sigh he seated himself on his bed and waited for the doors to unlock. Scar had never been renown for his patience, after all.

Plans were a good thing, and Matt was glad to have them. He hadn't asked for Kenshin's room number, but he hadn't forgotten it from the other night. It meant he'd have to be the one doing the walking, but the red-head was the injured one and there were certain rules of politeness it would be best for him to follow if he was going to get the other man to help him out.

He started on his steak with gusto. The energy would be needed, most likely. Unlike Mello, who'd been worried that Sai would go too easy on him, Matt was rather hoping this would be the case with Kenshin. It was counterproductive thinking, but... Matt was fragile.

So the card game had gotten cut a bit short. Brooklyn would have acted more disappointed if he'd thought he'd been able to teach the rules decently. As it was, he wasn't even sure if he'd been thinking of the right game from the start. If he ever got out of this place... No, when he got out of this place, he was going to have to talk to Lexington about some card game rules.

Dinner took his thoughts off cards fairly quick, his eyes lighting up at the sight of steak. All-you-can-eat brunch had been nice, but this was a real treat.

The visitor shift left Joshua more than a little bemused at the outcome. He'd learned a lot from the brief interaction, and though he'd never admit it out loud, he was a bit shaken from the encounter. Neku acted entirely like himself, but how things had played out... no, he didn't like that. Not at all.

That was why the blond was quiet as he walked into the room and sat on his bed, pursing his lips and obviously deep in thought. This... wasn't good.

Once again, Tony was relieved to hear the door click shut behind him, cutting off further "encouraging" chatter from the nurse. If she thought it was a good sign that he'd not been overt in his objection to what little of his so-called real life had been revealed to him, he was not inclined to disabuse her of the notion. That didn't mean he had any interest in hearing about it.

He took a seat at his desk, eying the plate before him dubiously. He wasn't hungry. He was too furious to be hungry. He wanted the dinner hour to be over so he could get out and get some tools, hopefully aided this time by the rough copy of a map he'd managed to scrawl out, and then figure out a way to blow a hole in the wall the size of a small tank. Still, he knew intellectually that his body needed fuel, especially given his injuries from the previous night's ventures. And there was little else he could do before night fell.

He set to eating, taking some small, childish pleasure in skewering the meat and fries with more force than was strictly necessary.

Wally wasn't feeling too badly about things when a nurse came to help him back to his room. Sure, he'd been a little confused about John at first, and technically still was, but he was pretty certain he'd figured out that it was because of this whole other dimension thing that kept messing with his head. First a different version of Clark, then a different John. Of course, while it was all well and good that different versions of his friends were wandering around, it did mean that it was highly unlikely that the real Justice League were going to be showing up to help him any time soon. Well at least he'd gotten a package of candy out of the deal, so it wasn't a total loss.

But it was dinner time now, which brought a whole new problem with it. How was he going to explain to Tony about what happened last night? Adrenaline? Confusion brought on by blood loss? Maybe he would get lucky and Tony wouldn't be there yet, then Wally could eat his dinner and pretend to be asleep or something. And just keep doing that for however long he was here. Yeah, probably not one of his best ideas, but it was the only one he had at the moment.

Of course, the whole thing fell apart when he got to his room and Tony was already there. Wally froze in the doorway, wondering if he could just turn and bolt or something, but with one leg injured and nurse right behind him, that wasn't an option either. He edged his way into the room and to his desk with a nervous smile, propping the crutch against the bed and settling into the chair. Tony didn't look like he was in the mood for talking, so maybe Wally had gotten lucky after all. He started eating, devouring the steak at his normal speed and keeping an eye on Tony all the while.

Crap probably felt better than Soubi. Probably because it had no feelings, physical or mental. Oh to be a steaming pile of shit. He'd once been considered pretty much that by his former Master and life had certainly been easier. He'd known his place.

He entered his room and the Nurse placed his dinner on the little table. They'd given him soup again. He'd hardly touched his lunch, figuring he'd catch up at Dinner. But now that he was here...he was exhausted.

He sat on the edge of the bed and had his neck checked over. And then came the medication. They glared at each other, he and the nurse. It was his usual, the ball buster of a nurse. Big, heavy set woman. She'd dealt with him in the morning and eventually gave up and told him he was welcome to suffer all he wanted. Throughout the day, younger nurses had come to Soubi to care for him and they'd been easier to turn away.

But now Soubi had to obey Ritsuka. He still wasn't sure what was going on in the grand scheme of things. His emotional state had been up and down all day. He wanted to see Ritsuka, but he didn't want Ritsuka to see him, but then he wanted Ritsuka to assert some dominance, and then he wanted comfort, and he wanted to be alone, and he wanted to sleep, and he wanted to be awake 24/7 to make sure the Doctor wouldn't make good his promise that somebody would suffer for Soubi's failures.

So he settled for agreeing to the medication. It was injected, seeing as he could barely speak or eat right now. Barely able to sense any more pain right now, he certainly felt the cold flood his veins and decided to get into bed. The nurse said something about food, but left him to his own devices.

It was a good relationship ultimately. They both accepted the fact that they didn't give a damn about one another.

Although there were two beds in the room, Demyx hadn't yet realized he actually had a roommate; he'd never seen anyone else in the room before, after all, although it wasn't as though he spent a lot of time in the room anyway. So he was slightly surprised when he was led into his room for dinner and saw that the other bed was occupied, and that there were two meals on trays instead of just one.

Perplexed, the Nobody sat down on his bed, studying his dinner briefly before glancing across the room at his mysterious roommate. It was a man(although he supposed that was a given, since they were in the men's wing), and even though he was lying down, his eyes were open. He seemed...well, blank. That was something any Nobody could recognize. But he couldn't be a Nobody; Xemnas had gathered all of them together and this guy wasn't anyone he knew.

Eventually, he broke the silence, voice uncertain. "Aren't you going to eat?" Nobodies might not need to eat, but if this guy wasn't one, then he probably did.

Rude sauntered into the room and sat down to his dinner. Wasn't half bad, compared to some of the shit he'd eaten. Especially since the Shin-Ra building got blown to hell.

He had a fair bit to report back to Reno tonight. And he was hoping they'd make it to the chemical storage. No matter how much he did...he needed to do more. Just until he got results. Then he'd relax a little more.

Shit. He had to see Elena too. She'd fallen asleep on him. That had been awkward. Not that she'd notice. But that wouldn't stop Rude's neck from going red.

While it hadn't been entirely pleasant, Homura's walk in the courtyard had served to calm him to a degree. He was satisfied with that, feeling that at least for the present, he could think more easily. There was still a great deal he had to consider before night came, after all. Allelujah's visit would ultimately be short, and then Okita would arrive.

On the way back to his room, however, Homura saw a note that concerned him--and angered him. Whatever the reason for his comment, Homura doubted Shito had been sincere in his words, and that was something the demi-god wouldn't put up with at this juncture. The group he had organized had suffered enough already without its own members making sardonic remarks. With everything that had happened and had yet to come, such lines served no purpose.

Moreover, it was simply insulting. For all that he had lived through, Homura would not be called a coward.

Homura took a few bites of his meal, enough to satisfy his hunger without burdening himself for the night to come. Then he waited, writing in a notebook to pass the time, as he'd found great value in the activity as of late. His temper was obvious, however, even with his back to the door.

As usual, the nurse insisted on following Shito all the way back to his room, so he couldn't ditch the crutches. Well, it was probably for the best that he get his foot bandaged up or something before he walked on it, anyway. Still, he pitched the crutches onto his bed in frustration as soon as the nurse was gone. Shito barely even noticed his roommate's mood, as he was more or less in the same place--between the stupid crutches and Touhou's visit, it hadn't been a pleasant day.

As for himself, Roland wasn't feeling too bad. His head was full of poetry, his belly was full of meat, and he had a journey with his comrades to look forward to when the night came. All in all, that was about as good as it got for someone like him, who'd lost hope of even seeing his homeworld restored again. Little things meant a lot to someone who'd lost almost everything.

A quick glance as he walked in told him that his room mate was enjoying some steak, which was fine with Roland. It wasn't like he'd be enjoying his own, after all. Instead he stretched out on his bed, offering a slight smile. "Are you doing well?"

So Leon did have something he needed to do tonight, after all--metal gathering. Granted he wasn't up until the night after next for getting his sword, but no sense putting the chore off. Something could happen to the guy ahead of him in the meantime, after all. But going alone... aside from the possibility--probability, really--of danger, there was also the fact that Leon didn't particularly want to lug around a bunch of metal all by himself.

... Clark was nice and big. Maybe he'd prove useful after all.

Re: M86

Clark wasn't in the best of moods when he entered the room. His visit with Lex had gone badly, to understate things, and he hadn't been able to get that phone call he'd been waiting a whole week for - in fact, Lex insisted his parents didn't even want to talk to him and wouldn't until he got out, as if his parents were ashamed of him. And what was this about his Dad running to be a congressman?

The door closed behind him, leaving Clark with his roommate. Clark felt awkward around him - they hadn't ever really talked much and it seemed like the last time they'd even exchanged more than a few words, they'd gotten into a fight. Clark still felt the awkwardness, the silence, and somehow he felt big and clumsy even though he hadn't even done anything yet. He wondered if Leon was still mad at him - it seemed like he was always irritated about something, just from his impression of his roomie, and he wasn't really sure if he should say "hi" or give Leon so more space.

Edward was still angry when he returned to his room for dinner. He hated dealing with his father, hated it with a passion. He was always so calm, so smug, like he knew the answer to everything. He thought he understood everything about Ed and his life, when he knew nothing. How could he? He hadn't been there for most of it.

He slumped down on his chair when he got into his room, starting to devour the steak. He was hungry. Really hungry. And he'd need his energy for tonight. His weird roommate wasn't back yet at least. He should hurry up before Ed decided to eat his dinner too. At least he had things to do tonight. Meet Hughes and then Adel and he was determined to succeed in making alcohol. A petty goal perhaps, but everyone needed something to take their mind off things.

He set his juice aside carefully, remembering his promise.

If Ed had eaten Near's dinner, the boy wouldn't have minded it so much. Eating wasn't one of those things that ranked among Near's priorities as high as it should have, or so Commander Rester would have him believe. Such business was better suited to others, in Near's opinion. It was childish, but the method worked for Near, if only because there had always been someone in his life to cater to such things in his stead. And ironically enough, this prison, with it's cover of trying to bring him back to a state of sanity, was no exception to that rule.

Near didn't miss how Edward had set aside his juice when he came in, and briefly wondered the purpose of it. Taking his toy car from his pocket, Near moved into his chair, and began pushing the vehicle around his dinner with a single finger.

"You're an alchemist." It wasn't a question. Near had learned it from the bulletin, and the potential that ability held certainly made the boy invaluable. Of course, Near had no specific purpose in mind for Edward yet. But he did want to lay the foundation, and get an idea of the limitations of Edward's power for his future reference. "Would you tell me what that entails?"

Another shit day, and with a little red needle prick on his upper arm to prove it.

Reid didn't know what was worse. Everything up until last night, or everything including last night and that day. Because having gotten absolutely nowhere the previous night and spending the day mostly drugged up was a bit of a unwarranted cool down period, wasn't it? Reid Garwin, motion suspended, not doing high energy, dangerous things, or relieving his temper by beating the staff up. (Foiled attempts didn't count. You got needled to prove that, too.)

From his position on his bed, he squinted at the ceiling, then covered his eyes with his forearm.

His thoughts were playing like oil and water in his head. Apparently his body couldn't shake off drugs quite so fast when he was near normal. The smell of the food didn't even make a dent in his consciousness. More or less, what the hell time was it?

Time for night soon?

After another second, the warlock rolled off the bed, got up, tried to wet his cotton-mouth, and went for his closet. Impulsive acts were kind of his forte. Taking out the half-pack of smokes and the lighter (they were never very far out of reach, even if he'd never actually bothered with either until now), and pulled a cig out. Well. He'd never gone for the heavyweight shit like this... recreational smoking was either with the lighter stuff, or else there were other, funner things to do instead. In his opinion.

Still, he leaned back against the closet door and lit one. Something to take his mind off of things. Or wake it up. Whatever.

[ooc; akfjaja i thought i had posted him and no, i hadn't. DX SORRY]

He'd fallen asleep in the library. That was twice now he'd fallen asleep during the day. Mori wasn't used to taking so many naps, but the library had been so peaceful and the book he'd chosen was one he'd read before, and before he knew it, he was being shaken gently awake by his nurse. It would have been smarter to spend the time going to see what Mitsukuni was up to, or seeing what Tamaki and the others were doing, but they always seemed busy and Mori didn't like to intrude. If they needed him, they'd call. It always worked that way.

So now he found himself being led back to the room and teased about being a sleeping cat all day. He didn't really think he was the cat type, but he wasn't about to argue. They let him into the room and handed him his food and once again, Mori was alone.

Or so he thought.

The distinct smell of cigarette smoke was hard to miss, especially for someone with delicate olifactory senses like him. Peering around the edge of the closet, he spotted Reid against the door and tilted his head at him. Where had he gotten cigarettes?

Subaru wondered if he would ever get a chance to speak with his roommate again. The other man had seemed like a decent sort, but they'd not spoken since that first time, really. Well, perhaps it was for the best, as it gave Subaru more time to make his preparations for the night.

Unfortunately, it provided Subaru with no distraction from his rather depressing meals. Americans really didn't know how to make decent meatless meals, or maybe it was just the cooks here? Certainly he'd never have imagined tofu being made to look like sliced turky (... "tofurkey," the nurse called it), instead of used as it was meant to be used. It tasted odd, too--nothing like turkey, but not like any familiar tofu dish, either. Well, it was food. And now Subaru had snacks to bring with him at night, which should help.
