Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

As usual, the nurse insisted on following Shito all the way back to his room, so he couldn't ditch the crutches. Well, it was probably for the best that he get his foot bandaged up or something before he walked on it, anyway. Still, he pitched the crutches onto his bed in frustration as soon as the nurse was gone. Shito barely even noticed his roommate's mood, as he was more or less in the same place--between the stupid crutches and Touhou's visit, it hadn't been a pleasant day.

Crutches. So Shito had been injured and signed up for an assignment anyway. It bordered on the foolish, but Homura didn't fault him for it. It was his choice, after all. Besides, Shito had already done enough to earn the demi-god's ire, something at that point wasn't hard to accomplish.

"Is there something you would like to say to me?" Homura turned to face his roommate, his eyes firmly on the other. "Or is leaving comments on the bulletin the only way you'll state your opinion about my leadership?"

Shito gave Homura a completely blank look. "... My opinion about what now?" When had he stated any such opinion? He didn't have an opinion about Homura's leadership--he hadn't seen enough of it to care one way or the other.

"That you share a room with your 'fearless leader,' as you put it." Homura's resolve didn't lessen with Shito's apparent ignorance. Somehow, the idea that he'd had made such a comment carelessly settled even more poorly with Homura than the thought of it being purposeful. That Shito didn't remember was a stronger motivation for Homura to point out the error of making such a statement. "Since it seems to have escape your notice, the History Club has taken a number of blows over the past days. There is enough to deal with without such careless comments being made."

"Oh. That." Shito shrugged a little, though the motion was uncomfortable for the burns on his back. The truth was, he didn't like the suggested intimacy of using someone's first name, but he had no other name by which to refer to Homura. Obviously his choice of substitutions had been ill-chosen. "So what am I supposed to call you? It's not like we know each other well enough to be on a first-name basis." ... Except everyone called him by his first name here, anyway, if they weren't using the stupid fake name he'd been given by the staff.

Being careful of the burn on his hip--the three separate burns in three separate places was more frustrating than anything else about the injuries, since it made comfort quite impossible--Shito sat in his desk chair and started on his meal. "And do we have any bandages? I need to wrap my foot up so I can lose the crutches."

"My name perhaps?" Homura made no effort to hide his annoyance at having to give what should have been an obvious answer. Shito's discomfort didn't occur to him simply based on the fact that Homura was the whole of his name. "Which is Homura. I have no family name." Only a title that as he was, Homura would prefer not be used.

The question of bandages was an easy one to answer. He had none, but a solution was readily apparent. "Your bedsheet. Cut it into strips and use that." Not an ideal answer, but the only on available to them at the time.

"Fine, fine." It wasn't worth arguing over. It wasn't like Homura was making the same kind of deal out of it that Akatsuki had--he just didn't seem to have any idea what it meant to be on a first-name basis for Japanese--or in Shito's case, Chinese--people. As long as he wasn't demanding familiarity, intimacy that Shito didn't want to give, Shito didn't mind using his name. Just a matter of convenience... he'd try to remember to think of it that way.

Bandages would obviously have been easier, but Shito could work with the bedsheets option. He never actually slept in the bed, that he remembered, anyway, so might as well get some use out of the bedding. "I'll do that after I eat." Not ideal--he'd be risking getting bits of his food in the raw flesh of broken blisters, but better that than risking getting blister ooze in his food. Even the thought made Shito turn just a bit green, and he had to wipe it from his mind quickly.
