Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

Kvothe looked thoughtful as he returned, sorting through everything he's seen in his head. The library had proved useless but he wondered how he could use the supplies in the arts and crafts room. Maybe he could get into the staff's supply closets as well, overnight. He hoped, anyway.

"Hi," he said as he dropped into his desk chair and eyed the dinner with interest. He hadn't eaten anything like that in years.

"It looks good doesn't it?" Tony asked. "How was your day?" He didn't want to ask about the night yet. With Kvothe there, Tony started cutting up his food, though he was tempted to eat the pie first. It was still warm!

"Yeah, it does." He started cutting his steak. "It was interesting. I got a better look at the place, I think I'm going to try to get back to the Arts and Crafts room tonight, get some things out of the cabinets there."

Tony finally tasted the steak. He wasn't the biggest meat eater, but it was nutritious and tasted good. The very few times he'd ever seen meat other than budget cuts and ground round, it was never cooked and served like this. "This place is bigger than I thought, though it's good you finally looked around. What's in there? Do you--" He cut himself off before continuing, not wanting to sound like he was begging.

"Do I what?" He tasted the steak as well and was pretty impressed, he'd never be able to afford this at home. "There wasn't a lot that looked useful, but I want to get some of the clay, and maybe chalk. The string could be useful. And the little bits of metal that acted like lodestones." He'd never seen artificial magnets before.

Tony swallowed what was in his mouth first. "I was wondering if you wanted my company again." He didn't have to be the person Kvothe was with. He could find someone, but they were equal in their lack of knowledge. "You don't have to."

He shrugged. "If you're headed toward the Arts and Crafts room, sure. It's probably safer not to go alone."

Tony shrugged and moved onto his pie. He liked it better than the meat anyway. "I don't have any plans of my own now. I just think we need to manage not to get killed. I'll help if you like."

Re: M9

"Yeah, not getting killed sounds like a good plan." He grins. "I'd like to find something that would work better as a weapon than the light, too. Maybe we can find a supply closet somewhere, too."

"You'd think in a place like this there'd be lots of supply closets. Oh! I nearly forgot." He pushed his plate aside and poked through his notebook. "Someone posted maps." He took them over and offered the sheets to Kvothe. "I haven't looked at them yet. Not close."

"Really? That's great!" Kvothe made space on his desk to spread them out and looked over them eagerly. "If they're accurate, they could be very useful."

The maps are all on pages taken from patient notebooks, but in pretty good shape. "They were on the bulletin board." He crowded close to get a better look himself. "It looks like there's a few areas that aren't written in, but it matches what I remember."

He shifted the papers so that Tony could get a good look at them, too. "We can fill in the blanks later, going there or asking around." He puts a finger on the location of the stairs. "I haven't been upstairs at all yet, maybe there'll be more useful stuff up there."

Re: M9

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure, we can try that. Do you want to go after we try to get to the Crafts room?" He pointed to the Sun Room. "Isn't it off of there?"

Re: M9

[identity profile] sir-savien.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it is. Maybe we should wait a bit, let other people get that way to distract anything that's in there." He didn't want to run into something else like the man before.

Re: M9

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess we should eat." Tony glanced back at his own half-finished dinner. "I'm glad we're roommates. It makes figuring out what to do easier." He left the maps with Kvothe and went back to his desk to poke at his food.

Re: M9

[identity profile] sir-savien.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it does." He grinned and dug back into his food, even coming from this place it was too good to let go to waste.

[OOC: We can start night shift whenever you like.]

"It's weird isn't it, how good the food is?" Tony asked. He couldn't help a wry smile at the thought. Other institutions usually served the cheapest thing possible.

"Yeah. Well, I guess. I don't know what it's usually like in places like this. This is still better than what I'm used to." He shrugged. "Maybe they're trying to put us off guard before we get attacked at night."
