Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

Steak. Finally! Pity they weren't given the option to say how they wanted it cooked, but steak was steak. Farfarello would take what he could get, in the red meat department. He especially needed the satisfaction after that last shift. Schuldig was going to be tough to deal with tonight, probably. Well, not that it had been otherwise at any point since Crawford went poof.

Farfarello would just... focus on the steak for now.

As for himself, Roland wasn't feeling too bad. His head was full of poetry, his belly was full of meat, and he had a journey with his comrades to look forward to when the night came. All in all, that was about as good as it got for someone like him, who'd lost hope of even seeing his homeworld restored again. Little things meant a lot to someone who'd lost almost everything.

A quick glance as he walked in told him that his room mate was enjoying some steak, which was fine with Roland. It wasn't like he'd be enjoying his own, after all. Instead he stretched out on his bed, offering a slight smile. "Are you doing well?"

"Not much to complain about." Which put Farfarello ahead of most people around here. But life here wasn't really much worse than his life had been anywhere else--a little worse, yeah, and if given the option of going home he would definitely take it, but still, it wasn't so bad here in the meantime. "Just some problems finding a decent interim leader for Schwarz."

That was good to hear; it seemed like a lot of people were facing some kind of internal crisis, perhaps reaching their breaking points, and Roland didn't like that at all. Especially since things here really weren't as bad as some people wanted to make them out to be. Then again, humanity was all about acclimation; a short shock could do much more damage than a slow build-up to a worse situation. Roland was a pretty decent example of that.

Still, that last comment made him blink and turn his eyes to Farfarello. "The one you had isn't here any longer? Sorry to hear that."

"Yeah, it's a pain in the ass." Farfarello's lousy plastic spork hit the surface of his plate and he discovered that he'd finished the last of his steak. Crap. Well, nothing for it. "He was the only stable one of us, he kinda kept us from self-destructing. So Schuldig and I are both having to reign ourselves in as much as we can, but it's not in our natures... we need someone steady at the helm."

"You can have mine if you want," Roland said absently, hearing the thunk of plastic and guessing what it meant. Besides, he needed to keep some room for what he expected to get at the night, so it wasn't like there was anything bad about the exchange.

Though... that latter part was worrisome. Roland knew what that was like. If there wasn't something or someone keeping the Embryon AI steady, then they'd likely be far worse than they were now. And if Schwarz was like them... well... "I assume you don't have any good options lined up?"
