Day 30: Staff, Morning

Burly orderlies and agile Calm Effect nurses flooded the cafeteria from the Courtyard while regular hall nurses filed in from the Sun Room and ushered out those not involved in the rebellion. It indeed seemed as if Landel was sending out all the cavalry, and an effective cavalry they were: The riot didn't continue for much longer after the alarm sounded, though it seemed strange just how quickly all of the mutinous patients fell, even the ones who hadn't been injected with anything.

The hall nurses were quick to escort their well-behaved charges back to their rooms, praising those who hadn't joined in and chiding those who muttered under their breath in response. There were some exceptions, of course: One nice young man had even defended one of the nurses from the violent patients! Now, wasn't that exemplary behavior? Dr. Landel would be so proud to hear about it...

Within half an hour, all of the so-called "loyal" patients had been safely deposited in their rooms, and it was then that the alarm finally stopped and the true difficulty of the situation was tackled. There certainly weren't enough rooms in solitary to accommodate such rampant disobedience, and yet measures would have to be taken to ensure proper consequences for each and every patient involved. After all, something like this couldn't be allowed to happen again!

Different options were considered. Perhaps they should make an example out of the girl who had sparked the riot, but then again, perhaps not. This certainly wasn't the first case of patients attacking nurses or their peers in a crowded area, but what had been different this time was the sheer support that the other patients had shown for her. Should the staff then make examples of all those who had tried to "protect" her from the well-meaning nurses? No, there were too many for that...

In the end, it was decided that the best immediate solution would be to treat the rebellious patients in the Medical Wing while they were unconscious and then move them back to their rooms to await punishment. To ensure the safety of both their roommates and the patients themselves, however, the staff decided to securely fasten their limbs to their beds and keep them heavily drugged. Such a sad sight they were to see, but... it was necessary.

Finally, when each and every patient had been escorted back to their respective rooms, the staff hurried off to an emergency meeting upstairs. Strangely, Head Nurse Lydia was the one taking care of the proceedings in the Head Doctor's stead. She calmly told them that he was preoccupied with more urgent matters, and as she began to speak to the crowd, the staff could only wonder what could possibly be more important than an unprecedented patient riot...

[ Comment to this post with separate threads for each patient room, and please put your character's room number in the subject line. Thank you! ]

Cid felt tired when he got back to his room, and he hadn't even been one of the damn rioters. Hell, he kinda wish he had, but then he wouldn't have had the leisure to flop down on his cot and... do nothing.

Shit, this place really was killing his brain cells. What the hell did they put in the food, engine oil? And speaking of engine oil, he wondered what the hell kind of transportation they used around here. Sure, there were buses from that field trip mentioned in the bulletins that he'd apparently slept through, but he doubted Head Doc traveled the country in a Greychocobo, and there must've been some kind of garage somewhere. Of course, there was also the question of how the hell an endless supply of chumps seemed to be constantly cycled through the Institute's halls, and though Cid already had a theory on that, he didn't want to think too hard about it.

See? His thoughts started rising up against him like some punk kid. You ain't getting dumber, you're just getting scareder.

Cid thought his brain had a pretty good sense of humor.

He glanced over at the empty cot on the other side of the room. The silver-haired guy who'd unsettled Cid for obvious reasons hadn't been brought in yet, but then again, he'd also been missing last night. The pilot wondered if it was too much to hope that he had the room to himself, and then he wondered what that would have meant for his ex-roomie.

Whatever. Cid leaned forward and grabbed his journal and a pen, sitting sidewise on the bed and leaning against the wall. He had a hard enough time worrying over his own ass.

Just as Nathan had been more than prepared to take a punch from the asshole standing over Claire, all hell had broken loose, sparing him from a bruised face but separating him from his daughter at the same time. He'd tried to reach her, tried to do something to protect her, futile as it might've been, but there'd been nurses between them in an instant, and what could he hope to do? Take a few hits for her if things got bad? Nathan wasn't a fighter, and he never had been. Not like Peter was.

And so he'd given up, let himself be led away and back to his room. What would resistance have gotten him anyway? Sedation? Something worse? It wasn't worth it at this point. Despite how helpless he felt, he wasn't an idiot.

It was mildly surprising to be led back to a different room in a different hall that he remembered. The nurse that escorted him so hastily didn't seem in the mood for questions, either, as was evident by the way he was literally shoved into his new room with the door bolted securely behind him. Nathan took a moment to take in his new surroundings, quickly finding them to be identical to the last ones.

The only difference being that there was someone else already in the room. Great. A roommate. Not quite in the mood for chit-chat, Nathan gave the other guy a quick nod as he passed him to take a seat on one of the beds.

Tyler drifted for a long time, caught somewhere between unconsciousness and waking for a long time as whatever drug had been in the syringe coursed through his system. He could feel himself being moved - once, twice - and then felt himself in bed, dreaming about strange things and hearing unfamiliar voices, though he didn't wake. His arms hurt and he was uncomfortable, and he tried to move them, but he felt trapped, unable to move. He tried to call for his magic, but again, nothing happened, and some part of his brain recognized that this had to be a nightmare, and when he'd wake up he'd be back in his dorm room and Reid would laugh at him for being a baby.

Except when Tyler slowly started to rouse, it wasn't to his bedroom, but to unfamiliar and undecorated white-washed walls and ceiling. This wasn't his room. He felt lethargic and out of it, half-caught in a stupor that made him wonder if he was even awake at all of it this was just another dream.

He still couldn't move his arms. What was going on?

(AGH, sorry for fail! ; ;)

Heiji was wheeled into his room by his nurse, praising him for staying out of the riot and trying to get out of the way. Of course, the teen detective was laughing all the way to the bank on this one--since Okita had been planning on rushing the orderlies and escaping. But once the wave of orderlies and nurses rushed into the cafeteria, he'd felt drowsy. Almost as though he were falling asleep or passing out again. But he hadn't done anything to aggravate his wounds--he'd been in a wheelchair for crying out loud.

The nurse deposited Heiji in his room, helping him move to his bed. She folded up the wheelchair, let him know it was there if he needed to move around the room, and left him.

He was alone for a while, and he thought that maybe it would be like this for a while. After all, Steve was gone. There was the possibility that he hadn't been assigned a new roommate.

Or maybe not.

Heiji watched as the nurses brought an unknown boy into his room and proceeded to strap him to the opposite bed. Well that was new and different. Maybe it was best that he and Okita hadn't gotten very far--they'd both be in the same situation, otherwise.

He waited for the boy to wake up, sitting on the dresser between the beds and watching him. When he started to show signs of coming to, Heiji gave the kid a crooked smile.

"Hey. Welcome to the neighborhood. Y'feelin' okay, man?"

Kurogane had no qualms with being led off this time and was actually somewhat thankful for it. Being unable to enter a fight was irritating, to say the least, even if he'd somewhat made that decision himself. He very well could have joined regardless of any lingering sedation effects and might have gotten in a hit or two, but it would not have ended well for him. Getting "drugged" again was not on his agenda.

Before being put back into the same room, he was able to see the 67 marking the door and filed that information away for when he was more aware. He slumped onto the bed, still sitting, but keeping his atrocious posture as he did. His glossed eyes glanced around the room once, finding it to be no different in the light than at night. That meant the second bed was there as well.

Though he had shared rooms with Fai before, he had the feeling that the Magician wouldn't be joining him. There were many patients here that could end up coming through the door, and besides that Fai could have gotten caught up in the fight. He doubted Fai would have intentionally gotten involved unless someone else had drug him along, but there was still that possibility. Or he'd started it...

...

"He didn't..." Kurogane breathed but honestly couldn't be too certain. Fai had acted a lot stranger than normal last night. He couldn't put any possibilities from mind. He closed his eyes and set a hand at his head, once again trying to sort his thoughts to an acceptable level.

There was nothing wrong with a little violence as far as Seishirou was concerned. It had been somewhat refreshing even, sensing the electricity in the air. Not to mention having Subaru to keep him company, willing Subaru to be exact. Now, it had been the most entertaining breakfast for a long time.

When the nurses came to collect him, he had not resisted. There was little to accomplish with that. He had given Subaru a smile as a parting gift and then went nicely with the nurse, chattering with him until the familiar door sailed across the hallway towards them.

Seishirou had thought he'd be spending this day alone in his room as well. He had not seen his roommate around much when there had been one, and lately, he had begun to like his solitary space. Not that it really mattered in the end. Today, however, there was a man, sitting on the bed, dark, tall and handsome. Much like Seishirou himself. Isn't that just a pleasant coincident?

"Good day," he greeted as he stepped in, a curious smile upon his lips, one amber eye studying the stranger meticulously.

The first thing Daemon was aware of was a pounding in his head, the complaint of aching and sore muscles, and a strange taste in his mouth. His jaw hurt and he could feel a bruise forming.

Part of his mind systematically sorted through all this, but no explanation came immediately, as his thoughts were disjointed and sometimes seemingly far apart, as if there were long moments of sleep drifting in between them to interrupt any coherent string of thoughts.

He gave a quiet groan as he stirred, trying to roll on his side to perhaps ease the ache in his head, but he couldn't move. His arms were strained and secured above his head and his legs were the same and he felt a moment of panic that had little problem clearing his mind for a heartbeat before he felt the drugs blanket his thoughts once more. Trapped.

He'd fallen. He remembered now, memories drifting through his mind as if in a fog. River fighting, falling, his brother and father joining him, as well as two men he didn't know. The orderlies bearing him to the ground...

The memories drifted slowly, appearing and vanishing as if a thick fog cloaked his mind. Only forced concentration on a thought let it remain for any amount of time. Still, there were worse conditions to be in. Despite his discomfort and the cloudiness of his mind, at least this place did not have the use or the need for safframate...

That guy had been so much fun! Even if she hadn't gotten a name for him. He wasn't hard to find though with that hair and injuries. If she needed to talk blood and death again, she'd be sure to track him down.

She was in a remarkable goo mood when she was taken back to her room. Blood and sugar just made the morning start fresh. Hopefully today would be a lot better than her recent experiences had been. She would be especially happy if she didn't have to deal with any version of a Tyki other than her own (and the following burning of the building) today or ever again.

Climbing up onto the bed, she kicked off her slippers and began bouncing up and down on it for something entertaining to do. The fight in the Cafeteria had been fun, and she'd managed to get just a little bit of blood to lick from one of the tables, but now there was no fighting or blood or sugar. Just Rhode and her room for now. That human roommate was sure to be coming in any time. Maybe they would play!

The nurse had chattered blandly to her as she was escorted back to the room, praising her for not getting involved and speaking to her like she was a child needing to be soothed. Rangiku babbled in the foolish tone she'd adopted, trying to gather every bit of information that she could; wasn't it wonderful that those other nurses had arrived but where had they come from? And how had they managed to subdue so many of those nasty violent people so quickly?

But no reasonable answer was forthcoming and really, Rangiku wan't to forget this charade and snap at the woman that she wasn't so weak minded as to need comforting after this. And possibly to try to snap her neck. she'd have to find Gin later and see what he'd managed to get.

She flopped down on the bed staring up at the ceiling and without Gin's warm presence there, that black guilt began to rise again. She forced it down as far as she could and closed her eyes. Maybe she could get some sleep, although she might even get to meet her new roommate.

As the nurses arrived for Cid and Sai, the ninja had offered them the usual fake smile and gone along without any arguing. He'd rather expected this sort of outcome, and was not at all surprised that all the rioters he'd seen had been brought down. As his own nurse met him in the hall, he heard her mutter to one of the other staff members nearby "See? I told you he stays out of trouble. You owe me ten dollars."

And then he was left to ponder exactly what they were talking about, sitting quietly on the edge of his bed. There was no way to know how long they'd be there, and he could certainly use the shower he was sure they had planned for that day...

Kurikara was slow to wake. He was vaguely aware of the nurses wheeling him around and being moved off one thing and onto another. When he did stir, he thought the drugs must be a lot stronger than the last batch because his arms and legs wouldn't move despite his struggling.

It took him a lot longer than he would have liked to realize he was restrained. Kurikara didn't struggle much more. He needed all of his energy to string one coherent thought after the other.

The fighting, Hiei, the weakness...before or after the drugs? He couldn't be sure if he was just imagining it, and soon enough he forgot why it was even important. Kurikara forced his eye open and looked down at the restraint, silent for once with his thoughts.

Sanji and Allen hadn't gotten very far in their rescue attempts when it became clear that their efforts weren't needed. The chef had been grabbed roughly at the start, but as they realized he wasn't actually a part of the riot they led him off far more gently. The blond simply scowled at everyone. He should have gotten involved somehow. The only consolation he got out of this outcome was that he wasn't drugged. Nami would be pleased about that.

He gave a huff and flopped down on his bed. Not caring that he'd been meaning to hold off on his cigarettes until dinner, he reached under his pillow and pulled the pack out. He figured the circumstances were out of the ordinary enough that he could allow himself this one for stress relief.

Oh no he didn't.

Light hadn't been too upset that his meeting with Misa had been cut short since he'd managed to tell her most of what he'd needed to, but all the same, he hadn't appreciated being escorted back to his room before he could finish. There was always next shift, though (... lunch, unfortunately, presented another opportunity for Misa to try and rope him into more romantic activities, but again, he could tolerate it), as well as the rest of the day and night ahead of them. As long as he could speak to her again before L did, it wasn't that big a deal.

What was a big deal, however, was that when he got to his room, Sanji seemed intent on having a cigarette for what Light knew had to be at least the second time since they'd started living together. That wouldn't do at all.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, he went to sit on his own bed and said simply, "I hope you don't plan on lighting that."

Why should he hurt? Armand wondered. Well, it wasn't hurting so much as aching. He hadn't even been hit, just dragged off his feet and then drugged. But his shoulders ached, and the light was still too bright. Damn modern lights. He thought longingly of the warmth of candles and lamps with flickering oil flames. Not as bright. Warm. Almost alive.

That carried him back into a doze for a bit, then he tried to move to relieve the throbbing of his shoulders. And couldn't. He sobbed aloud, suddenly afraid, then bit his tongue to silence himself. When he concentrated with his eyes closed he could finally feel the padded restraints on his wrists and ankles and across his chest. Not iron manacles or rough ropes. Was this his punishment? A damned sight better than the guillotine. Well, his attempt to incite rebellion hadn't been as successful as dear old Camille's, but so far the repercussions were far milder.

These flights of thought were easy in his mind, and almost wordless. Just flashes of knowledge and realization and reaction. His mouth tasted nasty and coppery, as if he'd bitten his tongue--he'd already forgotten that he had--and very dry. He wanted water.

Armand squinted to open his eyes to look at his surroundings properly, vaguely realizing then that he was in his room. Not home. Landel's Institute. "Doct' Birk'n?" he whispered, his tongue thick and clumsy. He couldn't see him there, but he trusted him to help. Surely there was some water somewhere.

This had to have been the best day yet. First the doctor woke to find his virus still enclosed in his hand--which, of course, the doctor was quick to hide. He wouldn't lose it now. Not without a fight and he would make whoever tried to take it wishing for death.

After that, he was lead to the cafeteria for what would have been a relatively boring breakfast only to have the room break into a riot. During which, the doctor had to stay back and fight the temptation to hit a few people himself--not all nurses, mind you. It was the principle of it all.

Sadly, it would have drawn too much attention to his character to join in, so the doctor had to settle for keeping himself amused during the duration of the chaos. It didn't last long, much to his disappointment, and soon he was led back to his room where the day got even better.

His roommate was sedated. Joy.

"Is there something you need?"

When the nurse filed Tenchi back into his room, he was almost relieved. He'd only been in this place for a couple of hours and there was already a riot. As the door closed behind him, he began to realize that it wouldn't be easy to get out of here. The sheer number of nurses and orderlies who had swarmed the cafeteria had proved that to him.

Deciding that a more in-depth search of his room was in order, Tenchi scanned the spartan quarters. For the first time, he noticed that this room was actually made to house two patients. Tenchi wondered who his roommate might be, and if they were in the same predicament he was.

A cursory evaluation of his side of the room revealed a small notebook of sorts, probably a journal, pens, clothing and a second pair of slippers. There were also a couple of unconventional items such as a heavy flashlight, a radio, and what looked like a small key ring. Unusual items for "just" a mental institution.

Tenchi could only assume that Hughes had been telling him the truth. If that was the case, he'd better look for something to defend himself. Taking a closer look into the closet that held a large overcoat, Tenchi took note of the wooden bar supporting the coat. It looked to be made of heavy wood, a couple of feet long, and rather dense. It'd make a nice wooden sword if he could get it out of there.

Moving back towards his bed, he laid down and waited. There really wasn't much else he could do.

Still reeling, Zelnick only protested that the nurse was taking him away from his conversation with Xigbar-- he had hardly noticed the riot going on around him, which either spoke very poorly of his awareness of others, or of the very great (and unhappy) surprise of learning more about this place...

Trying to pull himself out of his unhappy mood, he tried to pay attention to where they were going-- and was that a sort of message board over there? He tried to get his nurse to stop for him, but she frowned and shuffled him along, apparently unwilling to risk him attacking her.

He wouldn't do that; Zelnick never attacked non-hostiles, and even then he tried to talk it out first...

Within a couple of minutes, Zelnick was in his room, left to his own devices. Sighing, he decided to investigate the place more thoroughly-- his heart wasn't in it, but it was something to do until this lockdown ended.

His heart was slightly more in it when he found the basket of apples and supplies from the night before, set in a corner of the closet-- in a momentary burst of happiness, he took one of the apples and began to crunch on it, a blissful look making its way across his face.

At least he was alive?

Kenren was damn near kicking himself for not having got into the fight before the nurses had come to drag him firmly away, saying that they knew he had a history of getting into brawls. Well yeah! He enjoyed them! He usually helped to start them! And then when they were over he turned himself over to Tenpou's cruel and unusual nursing methods. He should have been there fighting, not being dragged away by the bitches.

He was practically snarling when he got back t his room, all the stress of the last couple of days building up to sharpen his anger again and he so wanted to beat something into submission.

He gave the other man in the room a flat look when he entered, and then threw himself down on the bed, glaring up at the ceiling because if he tried to move, then he was going to kill something.

His nurse was chatty as she pushed him along, but Angel ended up tuning her out. He was starting to get the feeling that they were just kind of filler, saying a lot that never quite meant anything.

The riot hadn't disquieted him entirely until the end. It'd been stopped almost as fast as it'd started, and his nurse had seemed more irritated about the entire thing than fearful. It was all just. Very strange.

And God, but that screeching alarm was giving him a headache.

When his nurse finally left, Angel sat on the edge of the bed, eyes fixed thoughtfully on the floor for a moment before he took out the journal and pen he'd found in the drawer last night. The bed across from him was still empty for now and he found himself a little apprehensive as to whom it belonged to. Not to mention, the mere sight of another bed there in and of itself felt odd. He hadn't shared a room with anyone in...a very long time.

After a time, the door opened to admit a team of mixed orderlies and nurses. They brought with them a rolling stretcher on which lay an unconscious "patient" with black hair gone to white and gray at the temples and golden brown skin. They moved him to the bed and strapped him firmly into it with restraints at wrists and ankles, and then departed with digusted shakes of their heads, locking the door once more.

The man stayed apparently deeply in his drugged unconciousness, but moved restlessly against his restraints, sometimes almost growling in sleepy frustration.

Kairi was worried. Actually, worry was an understatement.

She had seen Rukia attack a nurse. She had seen Rukia jump on a nurse. She had also seen Rukia being sedated by said nurse.

Things were not looking good.

Currently, the once Princess was pacing around her room, waiting for Rukia to appear so she could see if the girl was all right. She appeared to be banged up pretty bad as well – what had happened in that small amount of time she hadn’t seen her? Kairi frowned as she thought of all the possible things that could have happened. This place was pretty much like hell; anything could have happened.

Shooting a quick glance to the door, Kairi went back to pacing and thinking, the worry on her face growing by the second.

[identity profile] haiiro-no-chou.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
After a while, a nurse entered the room, wheeling Rukia on a small cot. Giving Kairi a smile for being such a well-behaved girl, the nurse gently deposited Rukia on her own bed, and strapped her wrists and ankles down. "You just take a little rest after all that excitement, Claire. No need to worry, okay?" With that, the nurse made her way out of the room, locking the door behind her.

...

Everything was foggy. She saw Renji's face. He was smiling at her, but then she heard him cry her name, like she was in danger. She tried to tell him she was okay, but her mouth was dry and her tongue wouldn't move the way she wanted it to.

That was kind of disconcerting, so Rukia tried to open her eyes. She thought she heard her brother, though, and he put a hand on her wrist. She stilled, and her thoughts drifted away again.

Kaien was there, and he laughed at her for getting in a fight. Had she been fighting? Had there been a Hollow? But Kaien was walking away, laughing quietly. Rukia tried to follow him, but she couldn't seem to move. Was someone still holding her wrist?

Mumbling nonsense in her drug-induced sleep, Rukia would occasionally tug weakly on her restraints, then go still again.

Momo paced. She normally didn't pace, but she was agitated. She didn't like how much all the angry patients suddenly fell unconscious at the same time; it reminded her of White Crawl too much. As far as she knew, Momo was the only one that ever cast that particular spell, having developed it herself, but that didn't mean others hadn't as well. It was hard to tell, but to think...

No, she wouldn't think.

Sitting herself at her desk, the shinigami pulled her journal out and opened to a fresh page. Resting her injured arm on the desktop so it hurt less, she took the pen in her primary hand and started to draw. The strokes were faint, but sure, as she began to sketch the beginnings of a figure upon one knee with its hand bracing itself on the ground.

Silly humans, always starting fights and ruining it for the rest of the world. Anya tried to explain to the nurse that she hadn't been involved in the riot - she should be left to finish her non-hellish cinnamon roll in peace. But everyone here appeared to be woefully stupid, and all the nurse did was continue to talk to her in an irritating calm voice and call her "Miss Underwood."

The nurse left her in a room more or less like the one she'd woken up in, but this one had a person in it. Blithely ignoring this "roommate," which was rather a new concept for the vengeance demon, Anya decided to get to the bottom of her impromptu power loss.

"Blessed be the name of D'Hoffryn," she began again, sitting cross-legged in the center of the room. "Let this space be now a gateway to the world of Arashmahar where demons are demons are spawned. We come in... come in... Crap! How does it go!?"

Bella didn’t like the sound of the siren. It didn’t help that she didn’t like the commotion in the hallway either, but there was nothing she could do about that. The nurse at her side wasn’t doing much to keep the noise out either – the small woman was silent, a frown set on her normally cheerful face.

She didn’t take this as a good sign.

She was brought to her room without even a parting goodbye, which made Bella frown all the more. Something bad was going on, and it made her wonder exactly HOW bad things had gotten.

Moving silently towards her bed, the teenager threw herself down on her sheets, grabbing at her pillow as she threw it over her head to try and block out the sound of the alarm. She couldn’t help but wonder if Edward was hearing the siren too – no, he undoubtedly was. Was he freaking out?

After a pause, Bella rolled her eyes from under her pillow and sighed.

Edward was always freaking out. Nothing new there.

Not long after an irritable Sierra was escorted into the room to join her 'new friend', with apologies from the nurse from what should have been a pleasant first breakfast at the institute.

Sierra was by now grasping that there was something very wrong with the Institute. She knew about high technology like gadgeteers used in the broadest sense, but that had no place in a hospital. And the fact that they'd all apparently been kidnapped instead of admitted like normal patients was unreasonable no matter how you looked at it. And, well, everyone here acted strangely. Even she could tell that much.

But Sierra didn't think in terms of the rest of the world; she thought in terms of herself, and right now as far as she was concerned the number one problem at hand was that she was being pushed around by these nurses according to someone else's schedule and not afforded the respect she deserved. The number two problem was that she was apparently still too poorly-rested to use her magic and couldn't properly intimidate the humans into letting her do as she pleased.

Problem number three, which firmly entered her mind only when the nurse had exited the room and was no longer available to glare at, was that she was sharing her room. She'd gotten a bit used to this sort of thing with the Army of Dunan, but it was hardly ideal. She couldn't stand having her sleep interrupted.

She yawned. Speaking of which...

Idiots. All of them. What the hell did they think was going to happen?

Beatrix jerked her arm away from the nurse when she was deposited into the room, shooting the woman a very icy look. She kicked her slippers off as the door closed and went to lay down on her bed, feet toward the door and propped up on the headrest. She folded her hands behind her head and watched the door.

Exactly what the rioting prisoners had accomplished was shed a little light to those of them smart enough to stay out of it. Obviously with the way the fighting prisoners had suddenly fallen unconscious, their captors had injected some kind of failsafe medication or other control into their system, perhaps even as elaborate as something grafted onto a part of their nervous system when they were first taken in that could be used to control them. It made her wonder about the frivolity of the riot. Would those that are subjected to whatever punishment and further treatment think it worth getting to punch a few of the staff in the face?

She blew her hair out of her face with an annoyed sigh. This was really going to mess up her plans for lunch.

Well wasn't this just great. Naomi hadn't even been able to finish her breakfast - taking care of L's leg had eaten most of the time spent in the cafeteria - and her nurse was being particularly rough and brusque.

And she wanted to discuss what L had gathered from the fight. She'd watched, of course, but her attention had been on keeping the time for him. She wanted to know exactly what had been used to subdue the violent ones....

And now she was back in the god awful little room. She nodded grumpily to Arlene and threw herself down onto her bed.

At least talking with L about Raye had helped ease her mind some.

The wailing siren was what jerked him awake. Reno bolted upright. What the fuck...?

Jesus. Talk about a wake-up call. By the time his nurse muttered at him and subsequently left, he'd gathered something about a riot and patients being bad. What. How the hell had he slept through a friggin' riot? His timing just sucked.

On the other hand, maybe it was probably a better idea to stay out of it. He'd seen what happened to patients who started shit and the last thing he needed was to be sedated. He couldn't possibly imagine what had happened this time. Brawls started on a daily basis, so this was obviously something much, much more if that damned blaring was anything to go by.

Whatever. Screw it.

He flopped back on his bed with a scowl, exasperated by everything, and then some.

"ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

Sprawled rather unprincess-like on her back in her bed, Falis snored. One hand hung off the bed as well as one bandaged leg kicked out from underneath the covers. The bounty hunter had slept through the nurses' original attempt to wake her up for breakfast this morning, and they chose to let her sleep longer as she had suffered a lot of injuries the previous night.

Perhaps her heavy slumber was a blessing for the princess as it spared her whatever had been done to the riotous patients as she surely would have joined in the fray.

She shifted in her sleep, rolling a bit onto her side toward the rest of the room. The long mane of blonde hair was scattered about her, several long locks hanging off the bed to drag upon the ground. Even the blaring intercom hadn't woken her.

"ZZZZZZZZzzzzzZZZZZ."

As Usagi was led back to her room by a nurse she wished she could have had more time to speak to Ami, and even Kunzite. Not only could he be a powerful ally, but Usagi was also curious about the world he came from that seemed so different from her own.

Upon entering the room Usagi immediately noticed something different; sounds were coming from the other bed.

"Hello?" Usagi asked, as she peered over at the blonde haired girl.

The chance to lash out against their captors was indeed a tempting one, even to one of such composure and will as herself. However, the futility of it all was not lost on the Servant and former King; to battle here in the daylight would serve no positive purpose, and it was clearly best to bide one's time until night was upon them and the masquerade shroud lifted.

Saber was quiet as she was led to her room, following the direction of the staff without complaint or any response whatsoever. When she was alone in her room at least, she took a seat on her bed, closing her eyes in silent meditation.

The commotion in the cafeteria had been enough to catch Ashe's attention, but the princess had scarcely found enough time to react properly to the mayhem. A sudden riot had broken loose, and the chaos that ensued was enough to warrant a full-scale assault by the nurses and orderlies that descended upon the perpetrators like rains in Giza during the change of season. Ashe herself, bearing no weapon, had restrained herself from taking action; tempting as it was, without direction, a mob would be dispersed in time.

Not only had that been the case, but a strange wind began to blow, and in time, each of the contributors to the violence seemed to fall without even being touched by a needle. Troubling indeed, but Ashe was thankful that she'd been able to contain herself. It was hardly appreciated when a nurse suddenly grabbed her by the arm and hoisted her away, but she did little to protest, expecting that they were already on edge as it was.

After being thrust into her room, she took a seat at the desk, marveling at how quiet everything had suddenly become. Something lingered in the air, indeed. Something foul.

Considering what might have happened if Mark had somehow been drawn into the fight (either via a patient trying to drag him in or a nurse coming after him with a needle) that had actually gone very well. He was in full control of himself and no one was dead; both generally pluses. The downside was that it seemed as though much of the population had managed to get itself sedated for no good reason.

This is a prison. It was inevitable; you have prisoners who are relatively free to act and you give them stress like the nighttime monsters, the pressure has to go someplace. At least they were rioting out and defending each other instead of attacking each other.

But that wouldn't last forever. It wasn't very clear, but this all had started because of a woman? Even Sasuke seemed worried about this 'Miranda.' That was not a good sign, in this gender-unbalanced population.

He sat at his desk and opened his notebook, to look back over his notes and try to find references to a Miranda. The odds weren't good, considering that it was her institute name, but...

Oriya had not bothered to get himself involved in the riot that had taken place not too long ago. In his current shape the swordsman was unwilling to fight, especially considering the cause of all the chaos. The other patients should have known better than to get involved, they had no power during the day and they were overwhelmed.

Just how far did they expect to get before it all crumbled in the end? Oriya was not enthralled enough by the others' cause enough to fight a battle where the end was inevitable. Though, perhaps he should have--it would have made the withdrawal symptoms that much less.

The swordsman shook the thoughts away as he entered his room, the door shutting behind him before locking with an audible 'click'. He wasn't alone either, his roommate was already inside and remarkably lucid. At least someone had the sense not to fight. They had to save their strength for when the stuggle would actually yield results, rather than bring about repercussions no one wanted.

River was wheeled into her room, a picture of stillness and serenity in place of the cold fire that had burned into her eyes moments ago in the heat and heart of battle. Glancing down at her with a vaguely irritated look in her eye, the nurse sighed, leaving the restrained girl to her own nightmares as the heavy door slammed shut behind her.

Silence hung heavily in the room as River didn't make a sound, lost in her own, twisted web of dreams and eternities. The girl was sleeping, and the weapon was dormant. Hours, minutes, seconds... All of it was the same here, the eerie forever clinging to her as she lay still, awaiting punishment, execution, or pardon.

"I'm glad to see... some girls... know... to behave..." Nia vaguely heard the nurse speak as they made their way down the hallway, but she just didn't have the heart to pay attention to the woman's 'encouraging' words. It was all so strange and very scary to her, but not in the way that some would assume her to think.

She was used to battles. She was used to the idea that some things just had to be taken by force. But what she wasn't used to was how everyone looked so utterly helpless, even when the fire in their eyes burned so brightly. Nia was always the hopeful one in the group, the one that believed that if someone wished hard enough, then they would make it through to the end.

So, in a way, one could say that she just couldn't grasp the idea of defeat.

It didn't take long for them to reach her room, and after a small pat on the back the nurse left her to her own desires. She'd been told before hand that her roommate had been the one that started the riot, and that she should stay as far away as she could. But to Nia, that would've been like trying to stay away from Simon who had been the Dai-Gurren Brigade's fearless leader through the end.

Her steps were small and unsure at first, but the former princess made her way towards the other bed where her roommate slept. Just like before she could see those long brown strands weaving their way over the pillow, but now Nia had a face to go with that hair. The teen eyed the straps that held the other down, but she made no move to untie them just yet in case it'd wake the girl.

She was quite content with hovering over her, watching her with worry, almost like she had seen a good friend get hurt.

Haku difted into consiousness at around the same time as the Head Doctor's voice came over the intercom. Sitting up, he blinked and processed this new information.

With a sigh and a shake of his head, he wondered if people had thought that a huge fight would actually work. He was also slightly disappointed as this meant he'd missed breakfast, and that was another meal he'd missed out on.

It was amazing how little attention the 'staff' here paid to their charges.

He sat on the edge of his bed and waited for Artemis and more information.

Artemis was wheeled into the room by a very irate nurse. She would have been talking the boy's ear off, but his head was lolled forward in drugged stupor. As the nurse lifted Artemis out of the chair and laid him on his bed, the boy caught Haku's eye. A brief spark of recognition registered on his face and he gave Haku a crooked, wry smile.

"They got me..."

"I'm sorry you have to look at this, Christopher," The nurse said, glaring at Artemis to be quiet. She strapped his limbs to the bedframe one at a time. "But Sean thought he would use a poor defenseless girl as a shield while he escaped." She accented her last point with a good, firm tug on the last restraint, then left the room without another word.

Artemis sighed and looked up at the restraints, "Am I seeing things, or did they just ch... chain a child to a bed...?" He felt even worse than he had in the Cafeteria, and was having a tough time accentuating his words.

Vlad had winced at the alarm, then glared up at the ceiling in general distaste as he was led back to his room by one of the nurses. She was telling him how good he'd been, again as though he were mentally retarded instead of insane. At least the alarm shut up eventually, and he smiled politely at the nurse and agreed what a terrible business all of that had been.

Soon they were back at what the nurse called 'his' room, although it was far too sparse and the furniture too cheap (although sturdy) for his tastes. Two cots... he'd never shared a room back during his years in the hospital, it had been too unclear whether his condition might be contagious. In fact, come to think of it, the last time he'd shared a room had been in college with Jack Fenton. Hopefully, if a roommate appeared, he'd be at least a bit more bearable company.

Not to mention, hopefully he wouldn't be sedated. Vlad could stand to speak to someone a bit more informed and possibly more observant than Daniel.

Sasuke was more than a little twitchy by the time his nurse had finally chattered their way back to the room. Allen didn't seem to be in yet, but the kid didn't seem like to type to jump into a 'riot,' as Mark had described it. Sasuke, on the other hand, was fighting down a good part of his nature and nurture that had gone into instinctively fighting the instant any kind of threat was present.

So he was still restless when the woman finally left, giving him a congratulatory sort of pat on the shoulder that just made him want to punch her more.

With an annoyed sound, he flopped onto his bed and rolled onto his side. Might as well catch a nap until Allen showed.

Allen was a little disoriented when the nurse brought him back to the room. He was still unsteady on his feet, so he had to have some help getting over to his bed. Everything was still fairly hazy. He could remember having left his seat to help Sanji, but after that, he felt faint and when he came to, he was being half-led, half-carried back to his room. How long had he been out?

He sat on the edge of his bed, still feeling dizzy. He'd lost a lot of blood over the past two nights, not to mention his injuries, and his body wasn't handling it very well. Sasuke was turned away from him, sleeping maybe? That sounded like a really good idea to him. He was exhausted and if he could sleep and forget that last night never happened... all the better.
