Day 30: Staff, Morning

Burly orderlies and agile Calm Effect nurses flooded the cafeteria from the Courtyard while regular hall nurses filed in from the Sun Room and ushered out those not involved in the rebellion. It indeed seemed as if Landel was sending out all the cavalry, and an effective cavalry they were: The riot didn't continue for much longer after the alarm sounded, though it seemed strange just how quickly all of the mutinous patients fell, even the ones who hadn't been injected with anything.

The hall nurses were quick to escort their well-behaved charges back to their rooms, praising those who hadn't joined in and chiding those who muttered under their breath in response. There were some exceptions, of course: One nice young man had even defended one of the nurses from the violent patients! Now, wasn't that exemplary behavior? Dr. Landel would be so proud to hear about it...

Within half an hour, all of the so-called "loyal" patients had been safely deposited in their rooms, and it was then that the alarm finally stopped and the true difficulty of the situation was tackled. There certainly weren't enough rooms in solitary to accommodate such rampant disobedience, and yet measures would have to be taken to ensure proper consequences for each and every patient involved. After all, something like this couldn't be allowed to happen again!

Different options were considered. Perhaps they should make an example out of the girl who had sparked the riot, but then again, perhaps not. This certainly wasn't the first case of patients attacking nurses or their peers in a crowded area, but what had been different this time was the sheer support that the other patients had shown for her. Should the staff then make examples of all those who had tried to "protect" her from the well-meaning nurses? No, there were too many for that...

In the end, it was decided that the best immediate solution would be to treat the rebellious patients in the Medical Wing while they were unconscious and then move them back to their rooms to await punishment. To ensure the safety of both their roommates and the patients themselves, however, the staff decided to securely fasten their limbs to their beds and keep them heavily drugged. Such a sad sight they were to see, but... it was necessary.

Finally, when each and every patient had been escorted back to their respective rooms, the staff hurried off to an emergency meeting upstairs. Strangely, Head Nurse Lydia was the one taking care of the proceedings in the Head Doctor's stead. She calmly told them that he was preoccupied with more urgent matters, and as she began to speak to the crowd, the staff could only wonder what could possibly be more important than an unprecedented patient riot...

Heiji grinned, "Bingo~ Well, that's kind of a lie, really. I was in a wheelchair this mornin', and my friend was going to get me out of the cafeteria b'fore I got hurt. But we were separated when the orderlies and nurses came rushin' in."

The teen detective blinked and looked down at his new roommate, "Seriously though, y'okay? I can prob'ly get somethin' for ya if y'need."

"No, I don't think there's anything you can do," Tyler whispered, more to himself than to the other boy. He had to get out of here. He had to get back to the guys so they could find out what was wrong with him. Then realizing that that sounded rather pathetic, he shot the other boy a slightly rueful smirk.

"Not unless you can figure out how to get me out of these stupid things, anyway. I'm Tyler, by the way."

"Not that I don't just love you man, but I'd rather not get a needle to the neck for tryin' ta get you out," He grinned. "Already did that song and dance a couple days ago."

Heiji put a hand on his chest--he was in pain again. Where was that nurse with her crazy medication? The teen took a deep breath and slowly let it out.

"Nice ta meetcha, by the way. I'm Hattori Heiji. Y'sound Western, so you can just call me Heiji or Hattori if y'like!" He grinned.

"They'd do that?" Tyler asked, frowning. "Nevermind, then. I can wait. I guess. As long as they don't decide to just keep me like this."

He saw the boy pause, his hand cupped to his chest as if he were in pain. Ty finally noticed the bandages, his drug-fogged mind putting pieces together slower than usual. "Are you alright?"

Tyler almost corrected the boy that he was from the east coast, not the west, when the boy's name clicked. "Heiji. You're Japanese?" Tyler guessed he would be considered a westerner, then.

The teen detective snorted, "'Course they would. They're needle-happy freaks--they'd be glad t'sedate me at the drop of a hat," Heiji considered Tyler for a moment. "Otherwise, I'd be tryin' to get you out right now. That can't be comfortable."

"He?" Heiji raised his eyebrow a little when Tyler asked after him. "Oh, yeah, I'm good. Jus' ran into some cats last night. They got me pretty good. Ah!" He dropped a fist into his open palm, "That's right! Y'know what's goin' on here, right?"

"Yup!" Heiji said with a wide grin, "Osaka born 'n bred t'be exact, but Japanese covers that too, I guess."

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-18 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not, but I've had worse," Tyler replied with a crooked smile. "I'm not worried. They can't leave all of us tied like this forever. They'll let me up eventually."

"Somewhat, yeah. I woke up in the middle of it all last night and had a little explained, but I met Rukia at breakfast and she went into more detail about the monsters and what everyone's been doing. And I ran into the radio man last night, although I'm not sure how helpful he was..."

Tyler couldn't help but laugh and grin back at the other boy. "Osaka? Really? I've always wanted to go to Japan and visit all the regions, but I hadn't gotten there yet. I'm from Massachusetts, along the east coast of the states."

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Really~?" Heiji's eyebrows raised in extreme interest. "The man on the radio, huh? What's he like? And how come y'don't think he was useful?" First and foremost, Heiji was a detective. Asking questions was his job. Plus, he was still interested in this conflict between the head doctor and the radio man.

"Well, if y'ever make it out to Japan, y'should look me up! But stay away from Tokyo--Osaka's the best place t'go! The food 'n sights are just the beginnin'!" He grinned. Once Heiji got started on Osaka, it was really hard to shut him up. "I'll treat'cha nice, promise! 'N maybe you can take me around, uh, Massachusetts--" The word was rather difficult to say, wasn't it? "--sometime, yeah?"

Re: M93

"Well, he was tricky," Tyler shrugged - or as much as he could do so with his hands bound above his head. "No straight answers, everything was a riddle, or vague. Maybe he's always like that, though. He was granting people one thing each - a weapon or a map or something useful, I guess. The guy I was with asked for a knife; I asked for a map of the top floor. He gave the other guy a knife and I got a map of the roof. I guess I could have been more specific, but I still don't know how many floors there are to this place, so I guess this works well enough. It does have all the vents and stuff, so it'll still show exits, I guess."

Ty smiled as Heiji started talking about his home. "That sounds like fun. I'll definitely have to drop by once we get out of here. And I'm sure, compared to Osaka, Ipswich doesn't have a whole lot of interesting things to show you, unless you're a history or cult buff."

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Heiji laughed when Tyler told him about the map of the roof, "Aw man, them's the breaks, I guess! He must be one slippery guy if he pulled a fast one like that. Interesting," The Detective of the West was getting that familiar spark of interest in his eye, complete with smirk. "And that's true! If it shows vents and stuff, it could be useful. And you're prob'ly the only one with a map of the roof, all things considered."

"Ipswich? Sounds weird!" The teen laughed, "But I find anythin' interestin' really. I'm a detective, after all!" Heiji grinned.

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"This is true. I still don't know what I'll do with it, bt it could come in handy." He returned the other boy's grin. "And Ipswich is pretty weird. You're a detective? For real?"

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Ch'yah for real!" Heiji grinned. "Back home I'm known as the Great Detective of the West--Kansai region, for you. I work nearly every homicide case that comes across my dad's desk, and a lot of other fishy happenings--not only in Osaka, but all over Japan."

He really loved talking about himself.

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Really?" Tyler looked impressed. "Do you get to see a lot of them, then? It sounds like an exciting job!"

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, sometimes too many, though. It's rough, seeing people dead sometimes. But I've gotten used to it," Heiji said with a one-shouldered shrug. "It can get exciting, and dangerous too. Frustrating sometimes," The detective laughed, "I guess it's just like any other job, in that sense!"

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"It probably is, just a lot more intense and exciting, I bet," Tyler agreed, his lips curving into a grin. "Well, now you seem to have been dropped into the middle of a hell of a mystery, at least."

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"No kidding! I only wish I had more clues, because seriously? All the head doctor guy does is rant and rave. Nothing of any substance, I swear." He sighed and waved his hand as though to dismiss the announcements altogether.

"But what d'you do? Y'just a student or...?"

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
"A student," Tyler answered quickly, lips quirking into a faint grin. "I know that's boring compared to what you do, but like I said, not much happens in Ipswich."

Which was only partially true, but it was as much as Tyler was allowed to tell.

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, gotcha, gotcha. Yeah, I'm a student too when I'm not doing cases 'n stuff. Sucks though--I think so differently from everyone else, so I have a few issues," He laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head.

"Hey, any idea why you were brought here?"

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
"No," Tyler answered, his voice quieter, more serious as he stared up at the ceiling. "When I woke up, I thought it was a prank. But my friends would never do something like this. Why have any of us been brought here? Is there some sort of pattern?"

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Not that anyone has been able to figure out," Heiji leaned back and looked up at the ceiling. He'd been trying to figure out why some people had been taken and others not (for example, why him and not Shinichi?), but so far hadn't come up with any ideas.

"I mean, there are people here who aren't human. Vampires 'n stuff. And dead people. I know at least two of 'em," But he wasn't allowed to say anything about that. Not like Tyler was Choushuu, but he didn't know who Tyler associated with. "It's really messed up."

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"There's vampires and dead people here?" Tyler echoed, looking surprised as he glanced up at the other boy. "Seriously?"

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Heiji nodded, "Yeah, I've seen postings on the bulletin board about 'em. People claiming not to be human, stuff like that. And if they're as sane as you 'n me, they can be believed I think."

Re: M93

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe being a warlock wouldn't make him stand out so much here then, Tyler mused thoughtfully. Not that he could tell anyone, but he wondered who and what else had been brought here? He was curious to find out. "Thanks for all the info," he spoke again after a moment, casting the other boy a small, crooked smile.

Re: M93

[identity profile] osakapwnzu.livejournal.com 2008-02-19 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, no problem! The more y'know, the better chance we have of escape, yeah?" He grinned, then looked up as the intercom announced the change of shift. "Uh-oh, I'd better get down. Otherwise they might get a little irate~"

Heiji chuckled and carefully descended from the dresser.
