Night 47: F-A Block Hallway

( from here. )

One thing Kairi couldn't help but admit was that her room now was a lot closer to the door than her old one was. It was practically a hop, skip, and a jump away! Not bad at all.

... Not that she was lazy or anything. She wasn't the lazy one of the group. Certainly not.

Either way, Kairi continued down the hallway and out the door with ease, careful to watch her step.

The women's hallway was deserted--nothing moving, dead silence. So she was early tonight. Meche breathed a small sigh of relief and moved to stand to one side of the hall, out of what would become the traffic flow pretty soon. Being early felt like a good sign, even if it was just a small one. She'd felt bad about holding the team up last night.

While it was just her in the hallway, she wedged her flashlight head-up in her coat pocket and started doing some practice with her spear, switching off between the thrusts and spins Alita had shown her. Hopefully she wouldn't have to use it, but it was good to keep working on her skills anyway. Boy, wouldn't Dr. Wilson be proud of her.

It was eerily quiet as Soma rounded the corner. Spotting Meche, she waved a hand in greeting. The older woman was apparently practicing with her spear; that reminded her, she would have to ask Alita for lessons sometime.

Not wishing to interrupt, she took up a position across from Meche and waited for Senna to arrive.

Bat in one hand, flashlight in the other, Hime strode down the hall as if she owned it. Anyone who wanted to debate that claim would have to be prepared for a swift and merciless bludgeoning.

Fortunately, it seemed there were very few patients out and about yet, so her royal presence remained unchallenged for the moment as she stepped out of the female block.

Thus began Furudo Erika's investigation, one that was going to take an extremely long time for her. Erika already surmised this by the massiveness of the building when she caught a glimpse of it from the outside during the fourth shift. It was going to take her some time to memorize the layout of the place, and it put her at a disadvantage. She could take the time to seal every door and window of this place, but it was clear that such an action was not only impossible, but merely attempting it was going to take up time.

Time that she presumably didn't have, so Erika had to content herself with observing. She did so by first pacing to the end of the hallway she found herself on, looking through to find that there were a total of four "rows" of rooms, with her room being in the second row from the door. Across from the entrances to these rows of rooms was a bathroom, which Erika found out when she quickly opened the door to investigate.

Tonight, she would simply be observing and investigating. Well, finding some duct tape wouldn't hurt either.

Another woman was already out and working with a spear, spinning and stepping in a one-person dance. Or maybe it was dancing that was like fighting.

She was training seriously -- Taura could see both the rough edges to the movement, and where they'd been filed down to deadly smooth. Or fighting something invisible, but the woman's expression showed only concentration.

She smiled as she jogged past, but didn't intrude.

It was nice to be traveling with a flashlight again. Even though Anise had gotten good at navigating the patient blocks in the darkness, it was a lot more reassuring to actually be able to see what else was in the hall with her.

"You've got everything you need, right?" she checked with Momo, though she guessed it was kind of a rhetorical question. She didn't seem like the kind of person who'd be so reckless as to charge ahead without preparing first, but who knew? They'd only just met, after all.

[identity profile] hajike-tobiume.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Since Anise had her light out, Momo left hers off and hanging from her sash. The less light, the less monsters they'd attract.

"Yes, I do," Momo replied. "Allow me to give you a warning, Anise-chan. I have no longer have sight in my left eye. I have mostly adjusted to it, but I still have a blind spot to that side. I just wanted you to know."

The moment Bella caught sight of the other doorway she knew she had to pick up the pace. Could she risk running for it? At least until she got to the stairwell. After that she would be on the second floor, and she'd have to watch her step, since she had only been up there once before. She couldn't afford to take a wrong turn, absolutely not.

We can do this, she chanted to herself, running into the darkness of the hallway, We can.

[from here, timeskipped to an empty hallway]

Definitely a dormitory of some sort. Forty rooms in this block, and a bathroom labeled WOMEN, which meant space for at least a hundred and sixty, or a single-sex facility.

That made the eerie quiet more so -- if this were an emergency shelter, it should be crowded, not empty. Instead, the most she could hear were voices so muffled that assigning a direction was difficult. No welcoming wail of sirens, no freeway rumble; where was this?

Flickers of reflected light were still trickling in along with the sound; she followed them out to a larger hallway.

She'd seen this part while the minion had been escorting her to and from the room, but only through one of the exits. In the name of thorough investigation, Agatha poked her head through the door she hadn't been through.

"Just a bathroom," she reported. "Looks like we go the other way."

Ema nodded a little. The location of the bathroom was good to know for future reference, but useless to them at the moment.

"Let's go, then." Ema turned and the two of them made their way through the other door.

Hanyuu always hated how... unnerving it could be traveling the hallways alone. Granted, it was still early, so she wasn't too worried about running into anything dangerous.

...Okay, so that might have been a bit of a lie, but she'd kind of hoped that telling herself she wasn't worried would've helped her feel more relaxed. Needless to say, that little plan didn't work too well, and the spirit was as anxious as she always was when it came to moving around at night.

Oh thank the Gods that Asuka wasn't there waiting yet! Junpei shined his flashlight around carefully just to make sure she wasn't hiding in the shadows like some kind of creepy stalker girl. Nope, not hot redhead to be seen.

He quickly slipped down the hallway to Yukari's room.

By the time Junpei returned to the hall he was to meet Asuka in, he had covered the butt of the Evoker with the dark blue baseball jersey he was wearing. The last thing he needed was Asuka to think he was carrying a gun and ask questions about it. He only had it for insurance, sure as hell not wanting to have to use his Persona in front of her. The babe would think he was insane, and rightfully so. Seriously, who in their right mind would shoot themselves in the head with anything, much less something that looked way too much like a gun.

Nope, still no Asuka. He decided to play it cool then and leaned against a wall. He rest the baseball bat against his leg and pulled his baseball cap down a little while he waited. Oh yeah... The picture of casual.

...She was doing it again. Yuna stopped to lean against a wall, pulling her senses away from reaching for the summoner's bond. She'd done it last night, too, but she'd thought the habit was more or less gone. Clearly it wasn't, but... But it'd used to comfort her. Drawing strength from the aeons, from their support, from what they represented. But they were gone now, the bond was empty, and...it kind of hurt.

She kept thinking about what Kairi had said, about the sword. Proof that her friend had existed, that her friend couldn't be erased as if she were nothing. That had kind of hurt too, in a different way. Because it wasn't as if he hadn't existed, but the High Summoner was Yuna. The one praised for bringing the Eternal Calm...was Yuna. Yuna remembered him, and Rikku, and everyone else, but...what happened when Yuna was gone? She was gone, right now, missing from Spira.

...Ack. Yuna straightened, and shook her head. She...she'd just try to stop herself from reaching, next time. And...it wasn't like Yuna's own memories were gone.

Turning her thoughts to the situation at hand, Yuna turned to the door and went through.

Well, there definitely seemed to be more women passing through here! That was a good sign. And to think, he'd barely looked at his map before he left.

But really, it was his duty to keep his pride in check before he could get too cocky. There was nothing worse than an oversized ego, especially on someone as important as a Kaioshin. He had to be calm, gracious and elegant, as though he were too busy musing on higher things like universal peace to even consider his own--

Kibitoshin, musing on higher things, realised that he had reached the end of the corridor and the door he wanted was way, way behind him. Oops. Maybe musing was best left to people who weren't quite so busy. Or easily distracted.

Coming out of an encounter with Franziska von Karma with only the one bruise to show for it had to be some kind of record. Then again, maybe tonight had been destined to be out of the ordinary anyway- he'd never seen her like that in the whole time he'd been here, not once, and while they hadn't known each other for long...

Well, it was worrying. With Sechs so down as well he had a lot on his mind anyway- maybe it was starting to colour his thoughts. Still, she'd seemed so shaken by the comparison, and, in a distant sort of way, so had he. Why had that seemed familiar to him?

Better not to ponder it here. With that out of the way, it left the rest of his night almost entirely free. Free to explore, scavenge... and probably get attacked by monsters to boot. And if that radio lady thought he was risking his neck for treasure she had another thing coming. Oh well.

The next hallway was practically deserted, just as she'd been expecting. Yuffie cast a brief eye around the place, her eyes and ears peeled for signs of danger. After that incident with the Yuri-not-Yuri thing, there was no way she was taking any chances. Still, since acting unduly—emphasis on the 'un', since keeping herself aware was part of her job description as ninja—paranoid was a total lame-o way to go, she kept herself casual. Cool as a cucumber, her.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheena had started to make the card spin on its vertical axis as it hovered above her hand when Yuffie went for a closer look, automatically reacting to keep the exact nature of the symbols drawn by hand on it a mystery. Grinning at Wutai's appreciation, Sheena nodded her head. "I can do a variety of things with these. Well, normally. This damn ranch has somehow put a giant clog in my metaphysical mana well, so I'm a bit limited. And having to make these with the shitty materials here sucks. I swear, the pens are out to get me."

Taking a quick look around at the others in the hall, Sheena snatched the card out the air made it disappear to join the others she had when needed.

"Got any extras? For some reason, I doubt my nurse will give me any more, thinking I'm supplementing my diet with ink or something," she added on.

Much as she hated how incomplete the outfit was, being in her familiar heels was kind of a relief. At least she wouldn't trip or anything stupid, like last night. She could kick properly in these, too. Mele was just waiting for the fall-out. Unless the lack of arm guards was the messing around part, but Mele wasn't exactly going to put any faith in Landel's goodwill.

Or maybe this overthinking was the mindmash part. Pfft, if that was the case, there was no sense in not being cautious. Mindbreaking nonsense wasn't ever going to change that.

Tsubaki crept into the main area of the cell block, at home enough in the darkness to be able to see the space in her mind’s eye and move accordingly. Flashlights gave away the positions of some prisoners, and what others, she could sense. There were four… maybe five.

There’d be more coming, she was sure. Night was just beginning.

As for her, she had her destination in mind, and although she held onto a silent prayer for her friends, she had every intention of doing her assassin background proud. Weapon or no weapon, she had to try. That was why Tsubaki was on high alert when she crossed to the door. It was all well and good to be prepared on her end, but she knew she wouldn't be the only one or thing in the halls.

This wasn't exactly a welcome change from watching every shadow for a telltale flicker, but it was something. And... of course, he would be seeing Nunnally again. Freaky was starting to sum this up pretty well. She'd run into a lot of weird shit in her life; it came with the territory of being destined to off things that went bump in the night. But this whole instant-transport into a place that looked straight out of some knockoff of Stephen King?

She couldn't think of a lot that could get the drop on her. Not even when she was sleeping, never mind wide awake. She should've at least remembered something, like a voice or a feeling or some sense of danger. All she had was a big giant blank of nothing.

More than that, nothing was showing up. Couldn't something just, you know. Attack her? She knew what to do with that. She was built for that. This? Well, it wasn't as though she weren't built for finding her way out of dark places, either. She just didn't like feeling as if she was gonna get sneaked up on. She'd rather have it drop down from the ceiling already, whatever it was.

Or them. There could be more than one. But who was counting?

There weren't any other girls still hanging around the hall by the time Scott arrived. Just as well. Going into a girls'-only dorm was only one step above going into a girls' bathroom in most cases. Yeah, he knew he was allowed in this case, but it still felt kind of weird. Again, Ramona would probably glare him into oblivion if he did something like that back home, though maybe less so than in the looking-at-other-women scenario he had thought of earlier.

Scott felt a return of faint awkwardness settle in his stomach when he thought about that again. He really, really hoped whoever had tried to set him up with Raine wouldn't be at the meeting. That would just be . . . yeah. Awkward. Not much of a better word for it.

Aigis remembered this hallway was the "girl's block" her nurse had gabbed about when returning her to the room for dinner. The corridors that branched off held many rooms for the patients to inhabit at the institute. Aigis wondered just how many patients Landel's currently held, and if any of them were here by accident just as she was.

Nothing much seemed to be going on in the vicinity, only a small discussion between a group of three. They looked preoccupied so Aigis continued on her way, rushing along as silently as possible so as not to disturb them.

Personally, she wouldn't feel much cheered until she got her injuries cleaned up and bandaged. Even then, Ema doubted she'd feel much better until either morning or the overhead lights came back on.

Unfortunately, both events seemed too far off to have much hope. What time was it, anyway?

The hallway was once again empty as Tifa walked away from the helpful group of women behind her. The light of her flashlight jiggled up and down with the rhythm of her brisk steps as she headed for the end of the corridor, hoping this whole get-drunk-and-stumble around-looking-for-Cloud thing didn't take too long.

A dark figure began to form in front of her, and once her light grew close enough to shine over the person's feet, Tifa lifted the light across the foreign body and up to settle on--Oh! She knew that hair!

"Hey, Chocoboy!" The brunette called, being mindful to bring her flashlight down so he didn't blind her friend. "Well that was easy..." She continued calmly, ignoring the sudden rhythm her heart had picked up. "I thought I was gonna be searching all night for you..."
