Nightshift 33: F21-30 Hallway
[F22]
The intercom startled Falis when it went off and thankfully, she'd set the newly crafted spear down or she might have jabbed a splinter into her palm. As it was, she was stading over her bed looking at all her weapons laid out upon it. One sharp spear, still stained with Eve's blood, one fresh spear, and a stake. Maybe she needed another stake. Nah... Namine should remember hers; Namine didn't forget things. This was why Falis liked the girl so much.
Her eyes moved to look at the intercom as the announcement continued, nodding as it pretty much conformed the whole ancient technology thing she'd been pretty certain of in teh first place. And since it seemed like it was on the fritz, whatever it did, that maybe the princess wasn't going to have to use her super-secret sealing Forland blood anytime soon. Maybe there was another princess around with special blood doing it for them.
What was her name? Jill? Jane? Whatever.
Now, if the people that were supposed to be showing up showed up soon. Bounty hunters had to be patient, but that didn't mean they liked waiting.

Re: F22
"Describe the blood in last night's fight with the spider. Did you see it's color - yours and the spider's. What did it smell like? How did you feel?"
Re: F22
"I don't know, it was... it was gross! I don't even want to think about that! I don't know what color it was, I was too busy trying not to get eaten by it!" Really! Of all the absurd questions to ask, this was too much! What good would asking that kind of question be?
Re: F22
"Kagura," she said with a bit of force to get her to pay attention. "You're not going to turn into a vampire."
Re: F22
"Th-thank you?"
Re: F22
"Since you aren't going to turn into a blood-sucking creature of the night, I've got something for you. It's good for keeping things at a distance as well as giving any other vamps that think you might be tasty second thoughts." She picked up the double-ended wooden spear and presented it to Kagura.
"I just made it today," she said, obviously proud of her accomplishments. "You got any experience with spears or staffs?"
Re: F22
While the spear was a nice gift and Kagura let her good hand curl around the middle of it, she couldn't keep from thinking that if she'd answered one of the questions wrong earlier, this would be going through her, rather than being given as a gift. She felt a little bit sick.
"It... it's really nice," she said honestly, lifting it out of Alita's grasp. She gave it an experimental twirl with her right hand, testing the weight. It was light enough for her to use easily, even with one hand. "A little bit," she nodded. "I've studied since I was about six or seven."
Re: F22
"Remember, if you lock it under your arm, you have better control with it one-handed than with the butt end swinging free," she replied, her mild disappointment showing just briefly. "Just be careful, cause this one's double-ended. I didn't have access to a sword to cut a clean edge on it like I did mine," she said with a gesture at the other spear laying on the bed.
The princess tilted her head a little, her eyes softening. "Take care... okay?"
Re: F22
She nodded at the advice Alita gave her, then, a bit uncertainly, wrapped her arms around the girl's neck to give her a hug. "Mm, I will. Thank you, really, Alita-hime. I hope I can do something nice for you too."
Re: F22
"Nah... you don't need to do that," she replied, her tone clearly indicating she'd been caught off-guard. "Just stay alive, mkay?"
Re: F22
"I'll do my best," she assured the princess, leaving her with a smile before she headed back to her own room.

Re: F22
Turning back to her bed, the princess flopped down on it, weapons laying next to her, and stared at the ceiling. Now she was back to waiting.
Re: F22
Alita's room was almost all the way at the end of the hall, and to make things worse, Naminé's flashlight had died halfway down there - it was rather sudden, and she was forced to use her fingertips and count her way down to the end. It should have been the second to last door, if she was right...
The witch gave the door a few hesitant knocks, hoping that this was the right door. Hopefully, Alita might have had a few extra batteries...
"Alita? Are you here?"
Re: F22
Falis sprung up off her bed and threw the door open. "Hey," she said to the small girl, grabbing her arm to pull her inside. She closed the door behind her, the room only illuminated by by the flashlight tossed unceremoniously upon her bed. In the faint light, the reddened welt on her neck were barely visible.
"Why are you walking around in the dark? Are you trying to get eaten?" She looked the girl up and down, a stern look on her face, checking to see if Namine had brought her stake with her.
Re: F22
"My flashlight died," Naminé explained, lowering the pillowcase where she normally brought her things and dropping the now-defunct flashlight in it. She reached in and felt around with her good hand, fingers brushing up against wood. Indeed, Naminé had brought the stake with her, but now that she couldn't see anything...
"... Do you have any spare batteries, Alita? I only need them for tonight, I'll make sure to get new ones by tomorrow night."
Re: F22
"...what's a battery?"
Re: F22
"They power the flashlights." Naminé would have demonstrated, but they needed the feeble amount of light coming from Alita's. But perhaps it was not a good idea to take hers, when she didn't even know what they were. Which probably meant she didn't know that they had to be replaced.
"I'm not sure exactly how it works, but they eventually run out of power, and the flashlight won't work without them. I was wondering if you had an extra pair, just for tonight." Naminé remembered that the patients were given an extra pair, so perhaps Alita still had that pair.
Re: F22
Re: F22
She finally got one loose, holding up the battery for Alita to see (hopefully).
"They look like this! I'm sure there's more in the Institute somewhere, so I promise to return the ones I borrowed, or give you new ones."
Re: F22
"Aaa..." The princess put her face really close to the battery and squinted her eyes as she gave it a good look. She remembered there being something like that when she first found the ancient technology but where did she put them?
"Umm..." Falis sat back, face screwed up in deep thought. "I think I had some..."
Where did she put them? The blonde stuck her arm down in between the wall and the bed, fishing around for the batteries. Not finding them, she shoved her arm down even further before her searching hand connected with something. Grasping the object, she sat up and held out a single battery like it was a war trophy.
Re: F22
... In between the wall and the bed. Well, it looked like it was a good place to put things as Alita emerged victorious with a single battery in her hand.
"Oh, thank you!" Naminé knew that the flashlight needed two, but perhaps it would be able to work with just one? Somehow, she didn't think it worked that way, but she shoved the battery back in it's compartment, slid the plastic cover in place, and clicked the flashlight on.
No response.
"I guess it's no good with just one..." Naminé felt like she should help though. Going underneath the bed didn't scare her, she did hide underneath it once when she thought Larxene was coming for her.
Re: F22
"Where the fuck did you get to," she grumbled as she fished for the other one that had to be there; she'd knocked both down there days ago. Unless it had grew some legs and walked off... Never mind - she'd have to kill it then.
The princess shoved her arm down even further, cursing at the elusive battery, and all the movement knocked the lit flashlight off the bed and onto the floor where it clicked off. Faced with the darkness, the bounty hunter didn't mind and continued to search.
"Aha! Found it!"
Re: F22
"Aah!" Oblivious to the fact that Alita didn't seem to need light, Naminé started to feel around for the flashlight. How could they find it if there wasn't a light?
After what felt like an embarassingly long time, Naminé's hand brushed up against the flashlight and she was able to click it back on - only to find that Alita had found the other battery.
"Oh, thank you! I'm sorry, I caused so much trouble..." Naminé reached forward to take it.
Re: F22
She stared at the girl for a moment and then, as Namine closed ehr hand around the battery, Falis leaned forward and looped and arm about Namine's waist, swooping her up onto the bed. The princess flopped backwards and started up at the ceiling, grinning for a moment. "I don't get it. Why'd you apologize? You didn't do anything..."
Re: F22
"Well, that's just it. I didn't do anything." Naminé did her best to now frown, though. Alita didn't seem angry, at the very least. "I should have helped more. But, at least you got the flashlight working again..." Speaking of the extra light, now that she focused the beam on Alita -
"Alita! What happened to your neck?"
Re: F22
Aww... isn't she a sweet little blonde-doesn't-forget-anything-girl?
"Eh, this?" Putting a hand to her neck, she rubbed the welts a moment and the flopped her arm back onto the bed. "Pansy-ass powerless wizard tried to choke me at lunch," she answered as if such things were an everyday occurance and didn't warrant getting excited over.
