Nightshift 33: F21-30 Hallway

[F22]

The intercom startled Falis when it went off and thankfully, she'd set the newly crafted spear down or she might have jabbed a splinter into her palm. As it was, she was stading over her bed looking at all her weapons laid out upon it. One sharp spear, still stained with Eve's blood, one fresh spear, and a stake. Maybe she needed another stake. Nah... Namine should remember hers; Namine didn't forget things. This was why Falis liked the girl so much.

Her eyes moved to look at the intercom as the announcement continued, nodding as it pretty much conformed the whole ancient technology thing she'd been pretty certain of in teh first place. And since it seemed like it was on the fritz, whatever it did, that maybe the princess wasn't going to have to use her super-secret sealing Forland blood anytime soon. Maybe there was another princess around with special blood doing it for them.

What was her name? Jill? Jane? Whatever.

Now, if the people that were supposed to be showing up showed up soon. Bounty hunters had to be patient, but that didn't mean they liked waiting.

Moonshine? What an odd word. Though come to think of it, Fwiffo did seem to recall a member of his human crew mentioning something about it. He'd never bothered to investigate though, figuring it was really none of his business. But how it seemed he'd be learning a little about it after all! ...Whatever it was.

Just as they wondered about their guests, said guests arrived on the scene. Naminé wondered if one of them was the "client", but then one of them mentioned "moonshine duty".

Moonshine? That sounded... like some sort of potion, something magical.

Naminé waited for Alita to speak with her guests (or maybe they were the clients), just sitting back and waiting for the meantime.

The woman he was going to be working with was considerably younger and prettier than he had expected, not to mention a bit sharper-tongued, and a pained look flashed over Zelnick's face at the oblique mention of ZEX-- he'd done so well at trying not to think about that-- but in a moment, he regained his equilibrium and flashed a grin back, the expression only slightly strained.

"Thankfully, nothing's gotten a bite in yet, though I had to come save Fwiffo--" he nodded slightly at the former alien, to indicate who he was talking about, "-- from a potentially dangerous roommate." He left "which is why I'm late" unspoken; no need to give Fwiffo a reason to be even more anxious.

At her welcome, the grin turned a little more genuine. "Love what you've done with the place," he joked back, though the room was very nearly identical to every other one he'd been in, excepting the even younger looking blonde sitting quietly out of the way. He wheeled Fwiffo in and ordered his ally, "Give the lovely lady the apples, please."

"The what?" Fwiffo looked blankly at the Captain and the two hunam females -- had the one who let them in said something about killing? -- then looked down at the floppy container in his lap. Well, it was filled with vaguely spherical objects...he could feel them through the container's flimsy walls. Was that what the Captain meant? Well, it wasn't like Fwiffo was holding anything else... "Um, here, I think," he said, holding it out to the first female. "...What are apples?"

Alita's grand entrance did not fail to amuse Naminé, and she giggled just the slightest. For a supposed feared bounty hunter, she was actually quite good with people - in her own way, that was. Naminé just waved to the other two when they looked her way. The taller one must have been Captain-Guy, then, and the one in the wheelchair was Fwiffo. What a cute name!

"Apples are red, round fruits," Naminé interjected, just to let Fwiffo know. She couldn't see what was in the container he was handing Alita, in the dim light.

"Oh, my name is Naminé. Alita invited me here; it's very nice to meet you both." She wondered what world Fwiffo came from, to not know what apples were...

Zelnick would've elaborated for Fwiffo's benefit, but he hadn't ever actually seen an apple until his arrival a few nights ago; this was one place he couldn't be an alien's font of human knowledge. He smiled at the little blonde instead. "Nice to meet you too, Naminé," he said in a fair approximation of politeness, "I'm Zelnick."

So Miss Moonshine's name was Alita? Huh, pretty name, he thought, glancing back at her, then faithfully (in mind, if not in body, not that he was thinking about how he'd been unfaithful in the latter) amended it to, if not as pretty as Talana.

And then she met his eyes and took a very very sensuous bite out of an apple. Zelnick's brain seemed to hiccup for a moment-- she was very pretty-- but he shook it off. No way someone he'd just met was flirting with him, right? So he renewed his smile and chirped cheerily, "Good! I'm glad they meet your approval."

"Uh, yes, nice to meet both of you," Fwiffo said nervously, trying to be polite even if it made him just a little nervous to be surrounded by strange hunams -- One of whom was biting into one of the strange spherical objects that Fwiffo supposed must be an "apple" after all, though he had no idea what a fruit was. Some kind of food apparently, and if the hunam female was hungry then he most sincerely hoped she'd be satisfied with just an apple. She seemed to be eyeing the Captain in a very disturbing way, which was bad for Fwiffo since the Captain was supposed to be his protector.

He hoped they'd be able to leave soon, now that they'd apparently fulfilled the Captain's mission to deliver the apples.

That seemed to be just it, but then Alita did something really strange. Well, she was eating the apple (were they just here to eat? Or... did these apples have something to do with the "moonshine" that Alita wanted to make?), but then she was... staring at Captain-Guy - Zelnick, she corrected herself - in a really strange manner.

No, she had seen that before... Naminé did have to arch an eyebrow, because Alita was acting strangely like Larxene, that same flirtatious streak. Of course, when Larxene was acting like that, she was either snaring a cruel trap or she wanted something...

GOD DOES EVERYONE WANT IN CAPTAIN'S PANTS *dead of laughing~*

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
His brain did more than hiccup; perhaps "melt" and "dribble out his ears" would be closer, and he found himself chattering at the princess (a moonshine-making princess? It was hard to even formulate thoughts about how awesome that was) without any input from his mind.

"That would be great," he dithered, a blush rising in his cheeks, "and taking time does mean that it'll be better when it's done, after all, thanks for doing this Miss-- uh-- Princess," and the touch of her hand against his arm just made his blush hotter.

In the good way.

Alita was very pretty, and she couldn't have been any younger than he had been when he'd taken command of the Vindicator...

... and his mind was wandering someplace it shouldn't have, and Zelnick forcibly re-railed everything onto business. You're a military commander and your allies rely on you, he thought to himself, act like it.

"It's been a pleasure meeting you," he said, still blushing hotly and smiling a little dazedly, "but I need to get Fwiffo to another one of my allies. I hope you'll forgive me if I leave so soon?"

WHAT WILL ZEX THINK?!!

[identity profile] metamollusk.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fwiffo may not have known much about hunams, but he didn't need anyone to tell him what it meant when a female of any species made a point of touching a male. Didn't she realize that the Captain was practically mated already (or so Fwiffo had gathered from ZEX's message left on the bulletin board earlier that day)? Only the Captain's declared intention of leaving allowed Fwiffo to hide his shock. Well. That and Fwiffo's complete lack of desire for a follow-up on the hunam female's earlier comment about killing.

Whatever Alita was doing, it seemed to be working as Zelnick started blushing quite heavily. Fwiffo, on the other hand, was not amused and neither was Naminé. On the contrary, Naminé was actually feeling confused and just the slightest bit upset.

Not because Alita was flirting, but because... what about Hokuto? Naminé had been sure that Hokuto was someone special to Alita - so what was she trying to do with Zelnick? Maybe she was just trying to get under his skin (as Larxene tended to do), but Naminé still couldn't help but worry.

"It's been a pleasure meeting you both," She smiled, deciding to wait for the two to leave before she would ask Alita about Hokuto. They didn't... fall out of love, did they?

Heehee, well, at leaas beautiful warrior women are more Captain's type than creepy older men~

Yep, his brain was still melting, and his smile got a little more dazed at her rather blatant flirting. He'd have to come back here sometime...

In a sudden burst of chivalry, and because he thought she'd probably understand the gesture, he bowed, hand over his heart. "I'll do my best," he promised fervently, and straightened. "Far be it from me to put a lady through such a trial."

Then, face still flushed bright and grinning as if enchanted, he saluted, took Fwiffo by the wheelchair, and left.

Once Zelnick and Fwiffo had left, Naminé tried to think of a way to broach the subject lightly. Really, it was none of her business, so she shouldn't even be considering asking Alita what she was doing with Zelnick, but... at the same time, she was just so surprised. She thought that Alita and Hokuto really loved each other, judging by how passionately they kissed (and she had to hide her face again when the blush came back tenfold) in public. Surely, it couldn't have ended so soon!

"Um..." Even so, she felt like she was entering dangerous territory. Perhaps it was best not to pry too much.

"Do you and Captain Zelnick... like each other, Alita?"

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so they did... Well, Naminé guessed that as long as Alita was happy, she really shouldn't be too worried. Maybe things just didn't work out between them - sometimes things just didn't work out. That's what Naminé tried to tell herself.

But that expression of love... it seemed so true!

"I guess you and Hokuto fell out of love?" She asked, with just a hint of sadness. Alita didn't look too upset, so perhaps it really wasn't that much of a big deal.

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh?!"

Oh, was that what it was called? It made a little more sense now, but whatever Alita was doing with Zelnick, it wasn't anything serious. Or it didn't sound like it. What a relief!

"Oh, I'm sorry! I... I don't know much about that sort of stuff," Naminé shook her head, looking quite embarrassed. OK, she knew a little bit, but hopefully the kind of "flirting" that Alita did wasn't the same as the kind that Larxene did.

It was a good thing that Naminé defined "flirting" as "women who act seductively to get what they want from men", because she might have had another problem altogether with Alita flirting when she was technically already taken. Instead, she moved on to more important issues.

"Oh, I also wanted to ask... what's this 'moonshine' that you and captain Zelnick were talking about?"

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so that's what it was. The way Alita described it (especially with the sugar), it sounded like it was a very sweet drink. If only she knew just how off the mark she was, but in the meantime, it sounded like something worth making. Again, if only Naminé knew just what she was getting into.

"Ah, so that's why we're going to the kitchen." She assumed that they needed the water and the things to prepare the moonshine from, and then they just... had to wait.

"It sounds like a really good drink. Would it be OK if I tried some when it's done?"

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
It was a good thing that Alita was happy to share with Naminé, though she couldn't help but be a little wary based on how excited Alita seemed to be. Er, not that Alita was not to be trusted (on the contrary, Naminé supposed she could trust Alita with her life now that the princess had spared hers at least once), but... whenever Alita was excited about something, it tended to conflict with what Naminé thought was "safe".

"Ah... thank you," She blinked, taking the apple. Well, she didn't want to refuse Alita's good gesture, and then Alita decided it was best just to continue on ahead. With foul language, but...

She guessed it was the client's fault for waiting so late, and to tell the truth, Naminé didn't want to see if the possibility Alita raised earlier would come true or not so she nodded and gathered her things, a little awkwardly since she had to cradle the apple in her elbow (her hand was still in those splints, after all) as she grabbed the bag with her other hand.

"I'm ready!"
