Day 29: Cafeteria, Brunch

Hitsugaya left the chapel no less frustrated than before. The head doctor once again had chosen not to hide his face, yet promised he would be making an appearance at some time in the near future. He didn't like being patient, but there wasn't much choice. Either the head doctor would show his face, or he wouldn't. Renji had already seen him, and knew how to find him. That was enough.

The thought of eating made him slightly nauseous as usual, but he knew he needed to get his strength up. He could either be weak and try to force his way through brunch without eating anything, or he could be smart and actually give himself something to eat. And there was rice. Rice and fruit. He took a heaping pile of rice, and grabbed as much watermelon as he could fit on his plate, then proceeded to an empty table. He scanned the room, watching for Momo. He wasn't exactly looking forward to their conversation, knowing how she'd acted yesterday; however, he knew he had to speak to her, and there was a good chance that she would show more restraint now that the drugs were out of her system.

Thoughtfully he consumed his rice and waited.

[free at the moment, pester if you wish]

Leon's coughing had died down a little by the time brunch came around, which was good. He didn't want it to look like he'd be spreading germs all over everyone else's food, even though there wasn't really anything to spread. His nurse, making it known to everyone nearby that he was looking a bit pale (much to his embarrassment) decided he needed a little taste of everything. That was fine with Leon, as he'd told Claude on the bulletin that he'd try and get a large brunch anyway - especially if this was all they were getting until dinner.

He opted for more than one glass of orange juice over any other beverage, and found his glasses overfull. Setting his tray down without spilling any of it became a balancing act as he got himself an empty table.

Max was disappointed the head doctor hadn't showed up in the chapel; she'd have had a few choice words for him. Then again, she wouldn't be surprised if everyone else in the chapel hadn't had a few prepared themselves, in which case the head doctor probably realized that unless he had a death wish, the chapel was the last place he should be.

So instead she allowed her nurse to nudge her into the caf and filled her tray with far more food than it looked like a girl her size could tuck away, and started for an empty table. On the way, however, she came across a boy haphazardly trying to balance his tray and himself and looking like he was having a little difficulty.

"Need some help?" she offered, pausing beside him as she shot him a friendly smile and a wink.

[waiting for Kyon]

Hikaru was one of the first people into the cafeteria, but he didn't head towards the food. He wasn't hungry.

He was hurt and angry and confused, because no matter how hard he tried to delude himself, part of him kept insisting that the vampire had been Kyon. And that part had gotten louder and much more obnoxious when Kyon had posted on the board, wanting to "talk."

He sat at the nearest table, head in his arms.

"Damn it."

[identity profile] bored-narrator.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyon had internally fought with himself for the rest of the shift after his chat with Hisoka. He either could or could not confront Hikaru about what had happened. One side had stated keeping his distance from someone he'd attacked was a wise and sensible idea, the other part of him knew that both the twins had come back to save him when it happened, and that not at least trying to apologize was wrong.

In the end, his conscious had won and he made a hasty post on the bulletin. The answer had him worried that this wasn't going to go well at all, but he realized it needed to be done, whether Hikaru hated him or not.

Walking into the cafeteria he ignored the food as well and scanned for the red-head. Finding him off to himself and unwell, Kyon bit his lip, stopping.

No, he had to do this.

He made his way over to him and with a breath, sat down in front of him. "Yo."

Heiji was wheeled into the cafeteria by his nurse, chattering all the way about how he was sorry he'd missed a chance to see the head doctor. His nurse was considering duct taping his mouth shut, but settled on the next best option--food.

The teen detective was starving. So when the nurse set a tray full of breakfast food and rice down in front of him, he immediately began wolfing down the sausages. Mmm... meat.

Come to think of it, he was meeting Okita soon, so perhaps he should save some food so he could actually eat with the swordsman--instead of watching Kaneyoshi eat... which would be really awkward.

He shoved a whole silver dollar pancake into his mouth in thought. Hm... it wasn't all that sweet, was it?

[Waiting for Okita!]

[identity profile] notachick.livejournal.com 2007-12-25 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Time in the Chapel had been interesting. Even without the Head Doctor making his appearance, Okita had been productive and that always managed to lift his spirits. Fai had been an interesting person - and knowing there was more to him than met the eye only increased Okita's desire to know him better.

Notice of visitors made his stomach clench, but he ignored that in favor of the food. Rice and fruit. Was there anything better? Injured as he was, his nurse decided to baby him and he decided he'd twist her head off later tonight.

"Would you like some pancakes? I can put syrup on them for you!" she said, beaming.

"Oh, yes, please," he replied, hands idly tucked behind his back so he didn't kill her right then and there. "And I have a friend waiting for me, so I'll take the tray."

His nurse protested once, but when he grabbed it from her, she relented and walked off. Moving over to the tables with his pile of mostly Western food, the swordsman set his tray down across from Heiji and smiled as he sat down. The boy was in some sort of wheeled chair and he was looking as if someone had taken a bokken to his ribs with a vengeance. Tonight, he might be useless less they could heal him. "I see you're enjoying yourself regardless of the night you had."

Brunch, huh? That meant he was going to have to eat twice as much as he normally did, which would be a feat in itself with his appetite. Masaru was pretty sure he could pull it off, though who knew at what price. Couldn't be that bad though, right?

His tray was piled high with eggs, rice, pizza, hotdogs and smaller portions of things he had never seen but grabbed anyway out of curiosity.

He sighed as he ate. He didn't want to wait around until nightfall to look for that head Doctor bastard, but right now, it was looking like he didn't have much of a choice.

[If you have plans, I can delete. ♥]

Well...talking to the human boy, Tamaki, had certainly been an...enlightening experience. At least now Keman had a better insight into the mind of the average adolescent two-legger male (the only flaw: Tamaki was hardly "average"). The young dragon was an amateur anthropologist (and zoologist. and historian. and a whole bunch of other things.) at heart, and people fascinated him. If nothing else, being thrown into a closed environment with all these humans provided him with ample material to study.

And the fact that Shana, Shadow, and Valyn were all already engaged in conversation gave him an excuse to do so.

Most of the food was still completely foreign to him, but he was starting to recognize a few things. Like the "hamburgers" he'd eaten yesterday. It all smelled all right, so he figured it would be okay. He had to learn to be more adventurous--embrace his newfound omnivore...ness!--and all that. He piled his plate high and looked around for somewhere to sit. He finally decided on another adolescent male. Unless he wanted to be taken for someone who preferred males again (not that there was anything wrong with that!), he'd have to learn to more effectively imitate what he saw here.

"Hallo!" he said brightly. "May I sit, or are you waiting for someone?"

The boy certainly did have a rather expectant look on his face...

norainu: (Over the shoulder)

[personal profile] norainu 2007-12-24 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Renji got his nurse to let him retrieve his notebook before heading to the cafeteria; it would give him something to do. He didn't feel like eating, but knew that he needed to yesterday. He couldn't get in the habit of ignoring food just because he was upset; he needed to fall back on the childhood habit of just eating, even if it was disgusting, because he needed it to keep going.

At least there was rice. He grabbed as much rice as he could fit on a plate, scrambled eggs, some vegetables from the salad bar, and fruit. That seemed like it would be pretty easy on him.

He found a seat as close to a wall as he could, so at least his back felt sort of safe. He sat with his food and opened his notebook, starting work on the first of the new map copies for the non-Arts and Crafts people. He tried not to think about the fact that Daemon had asked for a copy as well. He couldn't hold what had happened against Daemon; it wasn't his fault. But he also just didn't know how to deal with it.

Better to not think about it at all. He carefully began to copy the lines of the map onto a blank piece of paper.

[Waiting for Aidou]
idolism: (Default)

[personal profile] idolism 2007-12-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
By midday, Aidou knew something was wrong. Conversing with Guy in the Chapel had been all well and fine--it was early, a late arrival could be explained. Or perhaps he had gone to nap in the Sun Room, or even....

But now it was brunch, and his cousin still hadn't found him, and he still hadn't found Akatsuki, and something was definitely, undeniably wrong. They'd grown up together. They knew each other well. Akatsuki wasn't so brainless to think being so late wouldn't... wouldn't scare Aidou. It did. And the only solution he could think of that might help to immediately relieve his suspicions wasn't one he'd ever thought he'd need to consider. As soon as he entered the cafeteria, fully prepared to snag the first shinigami he could identify, he saw Abarai Renji sitting against the wall. It doesn't matter who, I have to do it. Picking his way through the room, he approached Renji's table.

Although he opened his mouth, nothing came out. Whenever he needed genuine assistance, it was from family. Other nobles. Other vampires. Not from someone he didn't know, couldn't bribe, and would most likely kill one of his kind before helping them.

Every second Akatsuki didn't show made Aidou want to wretch. This wasn't home--absences weren't welcome.

"... I need a favor. Do you have a minute?"

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Allen was in a particularly good mood when he heard that the next meal would allow them to eat as much as they wanted. Why couldn't they just do that every day? While he still had a lot of things pulling at the back of his mind, it was all pushed aside as he loaded up two trays with everything he could fit and still he intended to go back for seconds.

His arms shook a little under the weight as he set the trays down at a nearby table and started eating. Things seemed to be going a little better now at least. That strange mark hadn't returned from what he could tell and even if he'd lost a good amount of blood, that girl had managed to heal him. Orihime, wasn't it? She'd seemed nice, from what the haze of last night's memories told him.

Rinali also seemed to be doing alright, but some of the message board's conversation still bothered him. What was a telepath anyway? And why did that person think that he and Rinali... Allen's cheeks colored slightly just at the thought. Certainly she was pretty and nice and sweet and he'd seen many of the other young men at the Order casting glances in her direction, but... the thought of wooing Rinali seemed... somewhat inappropriate. They worked together and they both knew that work came before things like that. That was just... how things were. Besides that, Rinali's older brother as an in-law was a frightening enough prospect to keep most suitors far, far away.

In the end, he decided it was best not to think about it. He picked up a hamburger and finished it off in two more bites before starting on a second. No, the thing he ought to be worrying about was the talk he was to have with Rhode and Renji. The man did have a point, that if Rhode was so much a threat, had already done so much evil, that it was better to prevent that from happening again. But surely there had to be another way, a way that didn't involve the murder of young girl.

[identity profile] misterprince.livejournal.com 2007-12-24 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)

There was a bit of laughter as Sanji appeared, also toting an extra tray. "Maybe you don't need my help after all," he said, setting one of them down but not taking a seat himself. "Unless you eat like my captain, in which case this isn't nearly enough." Perhaps he should introduce him to Luffy, now that he thought about it. They'd get along on the subject of food if nothing else.

"Well, if that's all, I have some crewmates to hunt down. You enjoy yourself."

thesadist: (Daemon - Quiet)

[personal profile] thesadist 2007-12-24 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Daemon slipped inside the cafeteria, paused to glance around, and moved towards the line of food. His movements were automatic, his expression carefully blank and composed, his defensive barriers forcibly raised and pushed into place as he avoided making eye contact with any of the other patience he passed. On most mornings he would have sought out a familiar face, or even someone new, but his mental state was feeling far too fragile and unstable this morning that instead, he filled his plate with the unfamiliar foods, sparing them little attention, before he found a quiet, secluded corner and headed in that direction.

Talking with River and his father had helped, and at some point today, he would search out those he had wronged and apologize, offer to make amends however he could, but for the moment... it was all he could do to hold off the urge to cause a scene that would result in him being drugged and careless and - if he was lucky - dragged off to the seclusion of his room.

It was a very tempting thought.

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2007-12-25 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Phibrizzo helped himself to a decent helping of food and plopped down in a free seat. The attempt to cause mischief in the chapel had ended without much having occurred to his chagrin, but at least he had food now. Still, he felt a rather devilish urge to cause some decent amount of chaos this day. Ah, well- it was still young and there was time...

Picking up a fork, he began to pop this and that into his mouth, seeing what tastes he would experience today and waiting to see if anyone would take pity on the "poor child".

His nap had been a nice one (albeit a little shorter than he would've liked it to be) and Zoro was relatively civil when his nurse woke him for lunch. Or... brunch. Whatever the hell that was.

He didn't miss the announcement this time and had time to wonder about the latter part of it as he piled his plate with whatever food was within reach. The thought of loved ones didn't do much for Zoro as he already had most of his comrades with him anyway. Maybe it didn't apply to their crew-- who heard of captured pirates getting visited in jail anyway?-- but Zoro got an unpleasant sensation in his gut every time he thought about it. He squashed the feeling with the thought that there wasn't much he could do about it anyway and took his seat at an empty table.

Zoro had immediately gone for everything that resembled meat (it was a familiar source of energy), and started on a plate full of rice as he watched Sanji hassle an unfamiliar woman. Chewing a little and making a face (he could almost see the hearts spilling out of Sanji's eyes), Zoro raised a sausage to his mouth and... stopped.

Blinking, he turned and realized with a short jolt that the table hadn't actually been empty.

Hm... well, Gluttony seemed to be the same as he had been the last time; hungry and childish, but at least able to take orders. Roland wasn't sure if 'rapport' was the word he'd used, but at least there was a sort of understanding there. And it was relieving, or perhaps just alleviating, to meet with someone who didn't have the kind of concerns of humanity that Roland himself had. Very motivational, that image in his mind.

Not feeling hungry at all, after having a bite the night before, Roland took a bare minimum of rice before sitting down at one of the tables, laying it down before massaging his right arm. Damn, it still felt sore, and it still dangled limply... just what he needed. Hopefully it'd be okay by the night, though; otherwise he'd really be out of luck. And speaking of... he didn't have any plans for that, either. Now that was a pain.

"All-you-can-eat" was a term that Ginji thought sounded like the most beautiful music in the world. "All-you-can-eat" meant stuff your face with as much food as you want, and Amano Ginji could really really eat A LOT.

He piled as much food as he could onto his plate, somehow balancing at least a taste of everything on the menu, and put it on his lap so he could wheel himself up to the tables. His leg was feeling much, much better but he still needed to be in the chair for a couple more days the most.

He saw Roland and frowned slightly, worried. "Is your arm feeling alright?" he asked as he neared the man. He was eager to start eating, but concern came first and he wasn't rude enough to just place himself next to the man and start stuffing his face uninvited.

[Waiting for Orihime]

Well, that had been relaxing. She was almost glad that the Head Doctor hadn't decided to show his face. She'd probably have been compelled to get involved in a fight and she still wasn't feeling entirely up to it. She wanted to sleep . Of course, there was food on offer and she wasn't going to pass it up.

She started with a plate full of the breakfast foods along with a bowl of rice. Rice! Finally! Even she could get a craving for a more familiar food like this.

She found herself a seat where she could see the door easily and waved to her captain as she settled herself down.

[identity profile] simpleastherain.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Orihime didn't take anything to eat. She'd been extremely reluctant to separate from Ururu on such a sour note. She just knew somehow, somewhere, they were alive and they would come back...but how could that be enough for Ururu? She couldn't prove she wasn't just patronizing the girl. What proof did she have of her claims? Ulquiorra would say she just wanted them to be alive. She didn't know anything.

They could have been maimed to death the night before and she wouldn't know.

She wasn't even in that prison anymore and she still heard echos of his voice. What good was she? From here, she couldn't even destroy the Hougyoku.

Orihime sat at the table the nurse had given her, murmuring something about a nap. She folded her arms and hid her face and let her fingers curl into fists. Something like contempt was brewing in her heart and it scared her.

Alfons Heiderich hadn't been doing so well. That went without saying, of course; he'd nearly disappeared after the attack on the buses, due to all of that smoke getting into his lungs and making him feel like he'd die from all of the blood he was coughing up. Somewhere between staggering between the seats and falling out of the bus... he'd woken up, weakened and staggered. He hadn't wanted to go anywhere after that; the nurses had had to support him to the Sunroom and ease him onto a worn chair, and now they had to help him again, despite his quiet protests.

At least, after getting into the line, he had managed to get his own food and gotten to his own table. Alfons was tired, sure, and worn-out, but he wasn't gone yet; with a small grin of triumph he started in on the cold cereal, munching thoughtfully as he looked around. So many people he didn't know... and so many of them who looked like they could handle themselves better than Alfons could.

A bit of a despondent look clouded his short-lived triumph. "What am I even doing here...?"

Shana limped through the food line very carefully, eyeing the strange array of food with obvious skepticism. At least it smelled good, even if she'd never seen a spread quite like this. And she'd though elves ate strange foods!

Once through and with her tray full, she looked around for a place to sit. She spotted no familiar faces nearby - not that she knew that many people here just yet - and spotted a young man seated by himself.

Limping over to his side with only the faintest hint of uncertainty, she shot him a game smile as she paused beside him. "Do you mind if I join you?" she asked, wondering why he looked so down.

Well, that had been pointless. The man had been teasing them, taunting them and then hiding away in his room and gloating over the radio. Bastard.

Ugh, at least there was food now, but Ed was still itching for a fight. He had to get something done tonight beyond alchemy, much as he loved it. He hadn't acheived anything recently and he needed some activity. Last night had been a welcome break, but still...

Food made a good distraction. He piled his plate high with a variety of food, mixing whatever he felt like eating together regardless. He was hungry! Alchemy always made him hungry.

Unlike everyone else, Lust decided to forgo a large breakfast. She wasn't in the mood for food. Her nerves were still raw from the previous night, and she found the more anxious and irritated she was, the less food interested her. Human bodies were ridiculously illogical.

With nothing but a bit of fruit on her plate, Lust took a seat across from Edward. He was better company than most, she supposed. Though she was beginning to wonder where Scar had gotten himself to this time.

She didn't bother with pleasantries, only nodded to the alchemist as she sat down.

She'd quite enjoyed speaking with Rinali in the chapel. It was odd, but pleasant, to speak with people who came from such different worlds, even if the girl seemed as though she'd had a difficult life. It was nice to speak with other females as well. She hadn't really spoken to another woman since Jinana, and Sera didn't seem to count, no matter how close they had been.

Of course, she stared at the sun for a few moments as she passed through the Sun Room, still not quite able to believe that she was seeing it. It was beautiful.

The food tasted nice enough, very different to rations or anything else she'd had, but it didn't satisfy as it should have. She was grateful for the few bites she'd managed last night, although she worried about how much that man had seen, but she'd need to eat more soon.

"Why hello~.." Sanji nearly purred, stopping just over the pink-haired woman's shoulder with his tray. "I'm sorry, but I've momentarily found myself unable to look elsewhere. May I sit here?" He set his tray down before she'd answered. The seat was next to hers, but not too close for comfort. He was a gentleman.

"What do you think of the food? Does it agree with you? If they'd let me in the kitchen I could make something far more palatable. I'm sorry I can't offer such delicacies to you now." He gave her his best 'roguish' smile. Without the cigarette it was more difficult to pull off the cool glances, but he'd manage.

God had been silent. Nadine hadn't really expected anything else - she was damned, after all. No amount of prayers or pleas for forgiveness would change that. God wasn't kind or loving - He was cruel and merciless and jealous.

"At least this place is marginally better than hell," she muttered, as she sat down with a tray of sausage and french toast. At least the quiet time in the chapel had calmed her nerves some - and now she could pretend that last night was only a dream.

At least until the dark came again.

((I hope you don't mind the company....? If so, let me know and he's gone. ^^))

Faust sighed, more than a little relieved to finally be allowed out of bed. The staff had said he'd had some chest troubles, but that was impossible. His heart... well, it might not have been in the best of shape, but nothing he did to it seemed to make it actually stop. It probably had something to do, then, with the physical chest. Ah well. They had given him a few lovely doses of medication and that had soon put him right again.

He'd missed a trip into town, his nurse said, and he wondered if he would have found something nice for his love there. A gift, perhaps? He shook his head and walked to food lines, frowning. He wasn't terribly hungry, but a few bits of fruit and a glass of milk would do fine for now.

He spotted a young woman seated alone and looking miserable. Knowing he wouldn't be great company anyway, he thought she could at least use a non-hostile face for a while. Unless she had friends...

"Hello there," he said with a tired smile. "May I sit with you?"

Ururu hadn't wanted to leave Orihime, but the nurse had insisted, and the last thing the small girl wanted to do just then was get Orihime in trouble. So wiping her tears, Ururu followed the woman into the cafeteria. They had foods she knew here, and some she even liked, but even with that, Ururu didn't feel very hungry.

She finally ended up alone, with a very nice hamburger on the plate in front of her. She'd gone through the motions of making it how she liked it, because Ururu knew she should eat. She had to be healthy and strong to help people. But even knowing this, Ururu couldn't bring herself to touch the item on her plate, her stomach twisting in protest at the thought of food, or anything else.

She wanted Kisuke-san.

[Rukia, please]

Rukia had spent the morning sitting in a pew in the chapel, unable to get any sleep despite her exhaustion. Ichigo was gone again, as well as Urahara and, it seemed, quite a few others. She had hoped that Orihime and Ururu wouldn't notice, but their posts on the bulletin board clearly proved otherwise.

How could Ichigo be gone again? As with the first time he had vanished, she hadn't felt his reiatsu waver. He was simply... gone.

Still moving slowly from her injuries, Rukia followed her nurse into the cafeteria. She needed to talk to Renji at some point, and find out her orders from Captain Hitsugaya, and she wanted to see her brother. Instead, she ended up picking out a few things for brunch and standing there in the cafeteria, tray in hand, feeling a little lost. She saw Renji, but he was already being bothered by that awful young man, Aidou. Rukia just didn't feel as though she was up to that sort of aggravation.

Then she spotted Ururu, sitting by herself and looking forlorn. Rukia approached, mustering up a smile as she went, and stopped a short distance from the little girl. "Good morning, Ururu," she said, "How are you?"

Well, he had Sanzo's sort of cooperation at least. That was a start.

Kenren wasn't really in the mood to eat, not now, but he knew he'd need his strength if he wanted to have a chance of winning against this place, so he picked up a few bits and pieces, meat mostly to snub heaven just that little bit more, and found himself a seat. He looked around idly, picking at the bits of food, a frown on his face. Ah, and things had looked so good yesterday.

Dammit, Hakkai. How had they managed to take him? How hadn't he noticed sooner? He should have known, seen it coming or something. But he hadn't and now all he could do was make it better.

[identity profile] highlord-ofhell.livejournal.com 2007-12-27 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
His talk with Daemon hadn't been entirely successful, but he decided it best to leave him alone for a bit. However, he couldn't ignore his hunger any longer. He'd used far too much of his meagre store of power yesterday.

Saetan shrugged off his nurse escort at the door and went straight to the meat, piling them onto his plate with eggs and vegetables. Then he found some tea and looked for a chair.

The young man seemed quiet, even though his mood didn't seem to be the best. Saetan set his plate down, then asked, "Do you mind if I sit here? It's getting crowded."

Kenshin hadn't meant to sleep through an entire shift. Normally, he wasn't the napping type. But after all the strain and stress of last night, he couldn't really help but sit in the warm glow of the Sun Room and doze off.

He hoped that the boy whose wounds he had tended in the bathrooms had made it out all right. He also hoped that the man who had refused his offer to help wasn't doing too badly. Maybe he'd hunt them down later and check up on them.

He loaded his try with food that didn't seem too strange to him (mostly rice and fruit) and found a seat near a rather severe-looking young man with a shock of white hair.

"Good morning. May this one join you?"

The conversation regarding human religious practices with MOMO had been interesting. But Valyn had come away from it with no real knowledge of what said practices were - simply the dangers of them. Still, it gave him a great deal to think about.

That didn't involve Shana or the tangled mess of their relationship - or lack there of.

Once again poking through the offered food for anything recognizable, the elven lord came away with fruit and sausage, and found himself an empty seat at a relatively empty table. He could use a bit of time to think, and Shana was thankfully otherwise occupied. Shadow and Keman weren't here yet, so he imagined he had a few moments with his own thoughts at least.

[identity profile] valyns-shadow.livejournal.com 2007-12-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The buffet line attacked Shadow's nose with all different kinds of smells. Some he could easily identify as food while others baffled him all together. He did his best to choose the things he was most familiar with while looking around, trying to spot a familiar face. Valyn was the first he saw and Shadow couldn't help but grin as he made his way over to the elf.

"Not very adventurous with the food, are we?" Shadow smiled, putting his plate down on the table in front of Valyn and sitting across from him. "Here. You have to try this food that looks like flatbread. It smells much sweeter then normal bread and I think they called it a cake of some sort."

Time in the chapel had been interesting, but as was the case with most of the others, Homura was disappointed that the Head Doctor didn't make an appearance. He had yet to see the man's power for himself, and getting a chance to guage the enemy's strength was crucial in battle.

But, there was time. Now Homura's focused on other things beside empty promises and clever men (though Fai had been quite entertaining). First the demi-god got a tray of assorted foods, prefering as always to sample a bit of everything offered. Then he looked around, but saw neither of his appointments just yet. Taking a seat near the entrance, Homura began to idly eat, keeping an eye on the door for either of the two he was looking for.

Tamaki was still rather reeling from meeting a dragon. A real dragon! He had nearly forgotten his appointment at brunch, his mind already on remembering he had people he needed to check on. He saw Ed and one of the twins immediately, but Elena was nowhere to be seen, and it was rare to see one twin without the other.

Standing hesitantly after he'd entered the room, he scanned the room once more, in case maybe he'd missed someone....

Momo decided she needed to think more on her conversation with Saber before she mentioned any specifics to Hitsugaya. She needed to have things set firmly in her head first, which was a bit of a hard prospect to do right now with the giant headache she had. Again, the shinigami had needed help getting down the stairs to the first floor where the cafeteria was, but she'd come to realize she was more injured than she'd first believed at this point, so she put a lid on her pride for the moment.

She sighed heavily once the nurse helped her into a seat at an unoccupied table at the back of the cafeteria. She coughed, tasting iron as she did, and tried to ignore the small cup the nurse set next to her on the table with a glass of water. Curling the hand of her injured arm into a fist, hidden by the coat, Momo took a tiny sip and swallowed the watery blood down. She should eat, yes, and they had rice, but she didn't have the energy to get up and get it herself. She scowled at the nurse when the woman said something about food and taking her medications (the little cup with two white pills in it).

"No thank you," the shinigami said in a raspy voice. That was the wrong thing to say. The woman berated Momo long enough that the shinigami popped the pills in her mouth and took a drink of water, slipping the white things under her tongue and not swallowing them. She didn't know what the hell these pills were going to do to her.

Somewhat satisfied, the nurse then took a little penlight out and shined it into Momo's bloody left eye. The light hurt and the shinigami flinched, but apparently there'd been enough of a response that the nurse made some kind of acceptable sound and wandered off.

Once the woman was gone, Momo watched her for a moment, wishing her vision would focus anytime now, she spit the white pills back into the cup and set them back on the table. Let the woman yell at her later if she saw the medication sitting there. The shinigami put her good arm up on the table and laid facedown upon it, her hair obscuring her face and the unsightly snake-work of damaged blood vessels that ran down its side thanks to her hair.

The chapel had been a disappointment. Nonappearances on the parts of both Landel and Hinamori had made it basically a waste of her time. But the only thing you could control about such things was your own reaction, so Signum took it in stride. There was no point in feeling wronged by such a small thing.

Besides, she had seen that Momo had written on the bulletin board on her way to the chapel and could expect to meet her now, at the morning meal. She made this her first priority, and by a thorough survey spotted her small (and prone) target between the more distinctive bodies crowding the large cafeteria.

Not the most dignified pose, but she refrained from commenting and instead sat down next to her injured friend. "Good morning, captain," she offered once she was already well seated. There'd be no getting rid of her.

Satisfied that he'd done as much futile praying as he possibly could - if anything, he should get brownie points for even trying - Brock was escorted to brunch. And food. It wasn't often that he was actually able to feel full these days, but he considered anything that wasn't starving as an improvement. And anyway, it wasn't like he was in any danger of packing it in and packing on those extra fatty pounds no matter what he ate so he pretty much had free reign of the place. One of the perks of being a host to a symbiote: free Jenny Craig program so long as you didn't mind not being numero uno.

He heaped his tray full of whatever he could get away with: a bowl of cereal, french toast, sausage (not their preferred kind of meat, but better than nothing), and an obscene amount of scrambled eggs mixed in with hash browns. It was the kind of breakfast he wouldn't have been caught dead eating back in his old life. But it was energy and while he wasn't starving as badly as the other day, they could always have room for more.

Still limping slightly (they healed fast, but not that fast), Brock found himself a seat and sat down, glancing around for a moment. No sign of Parker so far. And no sign of Kasady. They still were gunning for him, and while in the end, all that mattered was he was dead, Brock rather it be him that was doing the killing if he had any say in the matter.

Food.

Armand knew what going hungry for days was like, but he hadn't had to do that for years. So missing more than nibbles at the staff's rather pathetic attempts at breakfast and dinner yesterday on top of the terror of last night left him hollow and shaky inside. He reluctantly let the nurse lead him away from Bridget in the Chapel to the cafeteria where the promised brunch buffet lay spread out.

Mostly, he was still apt to get lost in his own thoughts. She had to ask him what he wanted to drink more than once, finally shaking his shoulder slightly to get his attention. Tea, he wanted tea. But he couldn't have that, so he asked for fruit juice.

Then he filled his place with meat and eggs and some fruit from the salad bar. He still didn't feel very friendly toward the mounds of fried potatoes.

Finding a seat was tricky. He didn't recognize most of the people already seated. Well, there was the prissy little captain. He winced inside at how mean his thoughts were toward the man who looked so young but wasn't. But his own sense of pride had to bolster him through his humiliation and worry, so he didn't amend the thought. He didn't need to talk to him, after all.

So he sat next to a dark-haired man he didn't know, hoping for a little inane politeness to go with the meal. He didn't know what else to expect. The nurse brought his juice.

"Good morning, monsieur," he said as cheerfully as he could. Forcing a smile wasn't easy, but he didn't want to show his hurts to the predators.

[for Schuldig and Dean]

His appetite was lacking until he actually started eating. It'd been awhile since Reno had found himself truly wanting to eat around here, but he wasn't going to complain.

Still no Elena. Rufus did have a tendency to sneak off into his room for awhile--the last time, he was there for a full day and then some--but Elena...she was almost always here. Especially during mealtimes.

Fuck, this place was giving him a headache. He never had to keep tabs on either of them like this back home.

Screw it. Whatever. He was going to eat, dammit, and that was all he was going to do for now.

"She's either gone, unconscious, or dead, since you're wondering," Schuldig observed with a grin as he slid into the seat across from Reno. "Her mind's inaccessible to me, and those are the only reasons that it would be. It's been like that since last night."

Schuldig loved to be the bearer of bad news, at least to people he didn't like. That included, well, almost everybody, but Reno was relatively high on the list. And he'd never liked Elena, either; she'd been more snippy with him than even Dean usually was, and Dean had pretty much hated him from day one. Add that to his having scavenged her gun, and he was having an excellent day.

Though poking at the idiot in the Sun Room had been mildly entertaining, Farfarello was very glad when "brunch" finally rolled around. Damn them for not feeding him first thing--he'd worked up a major appetite last night, and definitely needed some iron and fluids to replace all the blood he'd lost. That, and he just liked food a lot better than he liked people. Of course, he liked almost everything more than he liked people.

After piling his plate high with red meat and carbs, with his usual few token vegetables on the side, Farfarello found himself a relatively empty part of the cafeteria and sat down. He'd probably go back for seconds, too--certainly he'd need more fluids, at the very least.

Well, he hadn't really gotten anywhere with Clark, but he had at least started working on him. Wesker had noted Claire speaking with a silver haired young man, but decided to give her space.

Instead he turned his attention to someone he had already met, but probably was not on very good terms with. Wesker did not see any other promising dining companions who were not already speaking with someone, so he sat down across from Farfarello.

"Good day, Farfarello."

[expecting a JJ at some point, but feel free to jump in as well in the meantime]

Leon hadn't really considered how he was going to manage to carry a tray full of food while he was on crutches, but the nurse certainly made sure to point out the problem as soon as she came to hustle him into the cafeteria.

And so he ended up with the woman trailing after him like some sort of mother hen, ignoring most of his requests for particular food items and loading up his plate with whatever she deemed worthy. At least she did acknowledge his choice of chocolate milk, but it was still humiliating. He hated being treated like a child, or an invalid.

[waiting for Rinali]

It had been both difficult and something of a relief to part from Hokuto and come downstairs to the cafeteria--it was wonderful to see her again and Subaru had missed the closeness between them more than he could say, but she did tend to ask the hard questions.

Subaru was dismayed, though to find that so many of the food options offered were heavy on meat, were unfamiliar to him, or just looked downright unappetising. He eventually settled on some fresh fruit and a bit of salad, as well as a good helping of rice, with water to drink, then found himself somewhere quiet to sit.

Rinali entered the cafeteria, feeling better now that she'd had the opportunity to pray a little. For being a member of the church, she didn't pray all that often, but when she did it did help give her perspective. That or talking to her newly found friend. Overall it was very nice meeting these new people from all over the place. A few on the boards had been particularly rude, but she couldn't entirely fault them for that. They were from a different time, with obviously different sentiments. Talking about sex just wasn't proper, but apparently that was less of an issue in the future.

Still, it made her feel a little uncomfortable. She'd try to avoid those people if she could discern who they were.

Unlike Allen, she was seldom ravenously hungry, so she gave herself a few pancakes and a side of fresh fruit. Maybe a bowl of rice, too. And a salad. And a couple of waffles. Ok, maybe she was a little hungrier than she had expected.

She took a seat next to someone she hadn't met before, but who seemed to be relatively alone at the moment. She didn't like disturbing anyone, but the tables were filling up quickly, and it didn't hurt to make new friends.

"Hi," she said politely and with a smile while remaining standing. "I'm Rinali Li. Do you mind if I join you?"
