Day 29: Cafeteria, Brunch
Hitsugaya left the chapel no less frustrated than before. The head doctor once again had chosen not to hide his face, yet promised he would be making an appearance at some time in the near future. He didn't like being patient, but there wasn't much choice. Either the head doctor would show his face, or he wouldn't. Renji had already seen him, and knew how to find him. That was enough.
The thought of eating made him slightly nauseous as usual, but he knew he needed to get his strength up. He could either be weak and try to force his way through brunch without eating anything, or he could be smart and actually give himself something to eat. And there was rice. Rice and fruit. He took a heaping pile of rice, and grabbed as much watermelon as he could fit on his plate, then proceeded to an empty table. He scanned the room, watching for Momo. He wasn't exactly looking forward to their conversation, knowing how she'd acted yesterday; however, he knew he had to speak to her, and there was a good chance that she would show more restraint now that the drugs were out of her system.
Thoughtfully he consumed his rice and waited.

"Luke fon Fabre," He supplied, sensing that Masaru was trying to finish the greeting. "Nice to meet you, Keman!" Luke grinned, and joined the two of them at eating with horrible table manners. His status as a nobleman was clearly not obvious by the way Luke was gnawing away at his meal.
Man, whose idea was it to put breakfast and lunch together? Although it did leave for an interesting selection of food, he guessed...
"Ugh, this morning was such a waste. I could have sworn that I heard that Head Doctor guy was supposed to show up at the Chapel, but nothing happened!" The redhead groaned. Of course, he actually didn't initially know that, he really only found out after he listened to the doctor's announcement at the end of the shift... But man, he was finally at the right place, but it just wasn't the right time.

He was surprised when he heard about the Head Doctor was supposed to have made an appearance. Why the hell hadn't he heard about that? Well, that was what he got for sleeping in, and it wasn't like the bastard had actually shown up, anyway.
"That sucks," he sympathized. "That guy seriously needs his ass kicked." To emphasize, he abandoned his eating for a moment to make a fist and slam it into his cupped palm.

Plus, no one was harping at him because of his table manners. That was an added bonus.
"Really? That's annoying," he agreed. "I just stayed in the Sun Room, and now I'm kind of glad I did."
Keman sighed. "I'd like to do a little more than kick his ass. Taking this awful place apart brick by brick is a little higher on my to-do list. Plus, the fact that he doesn't show himself just proves he's a coward. A big coward locked up in his room, speaking through those odd little boxes on the walls but too afraid to actually face us."

Granted, Luke sort of needed that...
"That's a good idea too, actually," Luke thoughtfully added at Keman's comment. "So that no one else could just take his place and use this building again..." Of course, he didn't know how much power that the building itself had, but it had to be better safe than sorry.
Though he had the feeling that if they got rid of the Head Doctor, the matter of the building would take care of itself. He didn't know why, but it seemed like when you destroyed the head of something, the building they were in seemed to go down with them...
Aw well. Maybe it was just an Auldrant thing.
"I just wish he'd have a little more guts to go and face us. If he's so powerful, why doesn't he prove it himself? Instead of just having monsters go and do the work for him. Anyone can release a horde of monsters," He grumbled, picking at his food with a little less interest now.

"Still," he considered, "even if we do punch his lights out, how the hell are we going to get all these people back to where they belong?" That sort of thing wasn't exactly his area of expertise. Maybe they had something like the Digital Dive around? If there was a way in, there was a way out. Probably. He was getting a headache just thinking about it.
"Well, whatever. It'll definitely work out somehow. I'll make sure using my own two fists." He learned back into his chair. It was kind of hard to eat thinking of all this serious stuff.

Fire and Rain, he wanted his gold back. Or even a jewel or two! Playing with his treasure always relaxed him. It was a dragon thing.
He couldn't help but smile at Masaru's vehemence. Males of some species butt heads or grow colorful feathers to prove their machismo. Apparently threats of bodily harm worked the same way for humans. "I think we all want to 'show him.' Though I'm not sure there would be much left of him to show if we all go for it. Better make sure you're first in line. And make sure to leave some for me."
The young dragon sighed and leaned back in his seat, thinking. He was done eating for right now. Going too fast wasn't doing anything for the wounds on his chest. "That's a good question. If he can get his full powers back, my friend can work on making a Gate--a sort of interdimensional portal. But..." He trailed off, realizing something.
"What about the people that this place brought back to life? My friend--Valyn, the one who can do the Gates--died, right before he came here. Well, he doesn't think he did, but...I was there. No one could've survived that explosion, not even him. What if the thing that's holding us here is the only thing that's keeping them alive?" He prayed (to the gods he didn't believe in) that wasn't the case. Oh, how he prayed.
"Losing Valyn was hard on all of us. I don't want to have to go through that again."

He stopped thinking once Keman mentioned dead people. Maybe it wouldn't have bothered Luke so much if someone important to him wasn't one of these 'resurrected' people.
"That..." He tried to search for some explanation as to how they could live after the Head Doctor went down. No, he couldn't be the one keeping them alive. No one was powerful enough to thwart death!
"... That's a good question," Luke muttered, looking very down. If they were to leave... what would happen to Asch? He didn't know much about this place, but Asch was supposed to be dead, according to almost everyone else.

"That's pretty useful," Masaru grinned. Who knew you could actually open gates like that way? If there were other people who could do it, getting home wouldn't be a problem. They just had to find a way to get everyone's abilities back. That couldn't be that hard, could it?
Of course, the grin was wiped off his face when Keman mentioned people who were supposed to be dead. Yeah, he knew all about things like that.
"...I don't think that's it," he said seriously. "I know this sounds crazy, but just because a guy was dead doesn't mean he has to stay that way. I've seen it before." He honestly wanted to look down at his food, but after saying something like that, he knew he had to show his confidence. It would be stupid to be unsure about something that big.

"Sorry," he muttered, looking away. "It's just been on my mind a lot lately."
The young dragon had liked it better when they were all laughing.
"You have?" he asked, looking up sharply. If Masaru had seen it, then maybe...

Luke seemed a bit too excited at Masaru's statement, but that was actually good news to him despite the overall tone of the other boy's voice. But if there was some way he could keep Asch alive... well, he'd do it. Luke just knew he was responsible for his original's death somehow, so he was willing to do just about anything to prevent it.
"I mean... what do you mean?" He forced himself to stay calm, not wanting to seem overexcited. Not only might that freak the others out, but he always seemed to get yelled at for getting just a little too worked up... not that Masaru or Keman seemed to have problems with that, but it was second nature for Luke to expect some sort of scolding.
