Day 27: Intercom, Evening

The intercom gave its cheery jingle just before the Head Doctor's equally buoyant voice rang through the halls.

"Ah, and finally, our day is coming to a close! Rooms and roommates have been reassigned with care, though what great partnership can start without a good meal? Ah, yes, after the nurses escort all of our patients, new and old, back to their proper rooms, everyone will have the chance to enjoy a savory chicken pot pie, full of peas, carrots, potatoes, and of course, chicken. On the side, we'll have buttery corn on the cob and green beans, and to drink, you may choose from the regular slew of water, milk, or assorted juices, which your nurse will bring to you.

"I believe that's all for now! Phew, long day, huh? I know I'll be happy to get some sleep, and thank you to all our vigilant doctors and nurses, although Dr. House seems to have gone AWOL... Hmm... Well, in any case, have a good dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again as the nurses began organizing the patients for the small trek back to their rooms.

[ OOC: Remember, room threads go in response to THIS post, and please put your respective room number in the subject line of your first post. Thanks! ]

With everything settled for the night there wasn't much else to do other than to enjoy whatever dinner was served to him whilst engaging conversation with his roommate. Of course, there was the simple matter in that said man was unmistaken ably brash with a dialect that made even the nastiest sailors flush. Oh, but Jade was the type of person that found enjoyment in anything and everything, and so it was no surprise that he looked forward to listening to the latter's incompetence for the earlier part of the evening.

The Colonel had been escorted into his room, quietly watching as the nurse set his plate at his bedside before leaving him to his devices. He sat at the edge of his bed for a minute, studying the room in a thorough manner before reaching over and setting the plate of potpie on his lap.

The ritual had been more or less the same, and Jade repressed a sigh as he dug his fork into the flaky crust.

Riddick didn't waste any time, accepting the food from one of the two orderlies who had escorted him back to his room. At least they didn't stick around to see if he'd revisit the violent tendencies witnessed earlier in the day. He sat at his desk and ate fast. As soon as night hit properly he'd be out the door and making a bee-line for the room of a man who, if he was smart, would be running like hell. Riddick hoped his target wasn't smart... and well, last night's events had proven something towards that end.

And whatever happened in that respect, he had more interesting plans for afterwards. He kept his thoughts to himself as he focused on the nourishment before him.

Chicken pot pie. The Mazoku lord couldn't say he was especially taken with it, though it would serve his hunger needs. And between the green beans and corn, Hellmaster was drawn to the latter; something about the green beans just didn't appeal to him.

So, here he sat in his room, awaiting his room mate's arrival and debating what to tell him this evening.

Quatre entered the room with a look of vague worry on his face. At the sight of his roommate though he smiled slightly. "Good evening," he said as he moved to his side of the room to have dinner.

622 followed the nurse to his cell, not relaxing in the slightest until she had given him a tray of food and left. He sat down, eating fast. The food was all new and strange for him, but it tasted incredible, compared to the rations he was used to.

He had noted where the first cellblock was located, so he could find his way to his RV point after dark. He was still unarmed, though, which was a problem. He started eying the furniture, trying to judge how easy it might be to break for blunt weapons.

Recluse waited for the nurse to leave before he allowed himself a moment to let out the anger that had been building up all day. Dealing with Marcus could quite possibly drive him insane. He was going to have difficulty with keeping up his act, but it was one he knew he could do well. If it didn't kill him.

He sat down to eat, starring impatiently at the door. Get here promptly for once, so I can start work. He had more knives to make...

After the thoroughly pleasant conversation with Captain Jack, Okita had been in great spirits. At least, he had been until he checked the bulletin board before being escorted back to his room. Hijikata still hadn't replied.

This was beyond uncharacteristic - it was downright wrong. Hijikata would have responded by now if he were able. Something had to be restraining him, or worse. Okita was itching to get outside, he wanted it to be dark so he could leave and tear this place apart to find his commander.

In the meantime, he would have to hold it together as best he could. Guy hadn't been brought in yet, so Okita sat at his desk and experimentally tasted the food. The pot pie was okay, but he still wanted a bowl of rice and miso. Pulling the maps he'd earned and his journal out, he started working on making copies for Guy just in case he needed them. Okita needed the distraction and until his roommate arrived, this was all he had.

Guy's mood was a good deal better than Okita's, though he had enough sense to realize that being obvious about how great he was feeling wouldn't be advisable. The fact of the matter was that most people were miserable here, and seeing anyone else being happy wasn't likely to make them feel better.

Still, he looked well as he walked into the room, his eyes still bright as his head continued to swim with ideas of other worlds, space travel, and whatever else.

Though he temporarily forgot about all of that when he saw that his roommate was sitting at his desk, picking at his food and writing something down. Okita had been out of commission for days, but now it seemed like he was doing just fine.

"Hey!" he greeted as he moved to his own desk, looking pretty relieved. "You're all right."

HK picked at his food, moving it around the plate into gemoetric patters rather than eating much of it. With his throat still hurting, he didn't really feel like injesting the stuff.

And he was still annoyed at SubZero. He'd have to get back at the meatbag, somehow.

Well, it had come to dinner now. Dinner and roommates. Now he was beginning to doubt what he had heard at lunch. Even for his lifestyle, it was incredulous. He couldn't possibly get eaten, or attacked. Then again, he had thought that before, and look where it got him.

He sighed as the nurse opened the door to his new room, M91. It looked exactly the same as the room he had woken up in, with another bed beside his. Was anyone else going to be sleeping with him? Probably, there were lots of people here. As the door shut closed, he glanced to his desk, where a tray of food sat with chicken pot pie, green beans, corn, and a glass of water.

His appetite had gone out the window now. He was getting more and more nervous as night began to fall. He'd find out if that thing about getting eaten was true. He really hoped he wouldn't have to find out first-handedly.

A long day... was that it? Mukuro found himself escorted back to his room. Dinner was in the room, hm? The entire atmosphere reeked of something dirty. Then again, the entire world was like this, falsely false and so material.

He was surprised, however, when the room was occupied by someone else. He tilted his head, thanking the nurse graciously and focusing on his... roommate. A kid, a hardly someone useful from the looks of it. He did offer a greeting, however. "... hello." Before moving over to his desk where there was food.

Forgoing the food for a glass of water he wanted for his roommate to break the silence.

It had been awhile since he'd last been in his room. Ritsuka wandered in and sat down at his desk, feeling rather awkward suddenly. He hadn't seen Tamaki in a few days (or however long it had been), and they had things they needed to talk about. He had no idea what news it was that Tamaki had, but apparently in his absence, their room had become some sort of clinic.

Ritsuka picked at his food, avoiding the corn and green beans for the gravy of the pot pie. He wondered how quickly the room would fill up tonight. He knew Hikaru and Haruhi were probably coming, but other than that he had no clue.

Tamaki bounded into his room, journal clutched in his hands. He had so much work to do!

"Oh! Ritsuka-kun"! He smiled widely at his roommate and bounced onto his bed, clearly energized and pleased. He was doing something! He was doing something well! He hoped everyone was proud of him....

Dairine was herded back into her room for dinner. It looked delicious - chicken pot pie, corn on the cob, green beans...and she did need to eat, seeing as her lunch had been promptly forgotten upon sighting Qui-Gon. No Jedi were around to distract her now, so she could eat.

She hadn't realized exactly how ravenous she was until she had shoveled half of the chicken and pastry into her mouth in the span of about a minute. Remembering to chew was a good thing. It had been a while since she'd been this hungry - the period immediately following her Ordeal stood out the most. With nothing to survive on but bologna sandwiches on a far-off planet in an even more distant galaxy, the return of soda and vegetables and foods other than bologna sandwiches had been more than welcome. She hadn't even been able to look at lunch meat for months afterwards.

Dairine wondered if she'd finally meet her roommate. She'd seen her before, but they'd never had the chance to talk properly - mostly since Dair had crashed immediately after the previous night's dinner.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2007-10-04 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
What was with the dinners here anyway?!

Rhode pouted down at the overly healthy arrangement of foods before her, growing audibly. Nothing sweet. Not one single thing! Even the juice was sadly lacking in sugar content. Lunch hadn't been any sweeter either, though she hadn't eaten any of it, and that little fact was coming back to bite her in the butt. She didn't want to be hungry all night while waiting for breakfast.

Well, so long as the Earl didn't see that she was willingly eating her vegetables like a good little girl, she supposed it couldn't be all that bad. She stole a glance up at her roommate again as she took her first bite.

Dessert came later.

...full of peas...

What was it about Landel's Institute that enjoyed pushing peas on the patients so often? There had been only one day in the past week that they hadn't been served peas. Ashton liked vegetables, too, and was thankful for the corn and green beans..! Just.. just not these green peas. He was sure they didn't do it just to grate on his nerves, and that it was just his terrible luck, but he was beginning to wonder! Well, in any case, it wasn't enough to ruin Ashton's day, but it sure did make him frown for a moment as the nurse carried his tray in for him (as he'd kindly offered to wheel himself.) She helped him transfer from the wheelchair to his bed, and he felt a sharp burst of pain as he stood.

It was time for a pain pill, the nurse said, and Ashton took it without struggling - it looked the same as the drug before it that he'd been made to take at lunch, and there was really no other way around taking it.

The swordsman wished he'd been allowed to take the book he'd been reading, A Christmas Carol, with him to his room; well, he'd just have to finish reading it sometime later. In the meantime, it put all sorts of thoughts of Christmas in his head as he tried to pick out the peas from the pot pie. He'd have to forget that Miku said the holiday was for couples.

Well that surely had been an interesting conversation to say the least.

Axel was escorted to his room without protest after talking to Raiden, feeling somewhat accomplished that he managed to point the blond in the right direction. Sure, the goal wasn't actually there yet, but it was steadily approaching. So with that the redhead was in as much high spirits as a Nobody with a fake heart could be.

He hummed to himself as he listened to the intercom's announcement whilst walking down the hallways, laughing lightly when 'peas' were mentioned in the menu. The reason for doing so was simple, and he almost felt sympathetic towards his roommate for having to endure another night with the vegetable.

"Honey I'm home~" Axel grinned over at Ashton when he walked into the room, the nurse behind him shaking her head before offering his food and leaving right after.

Ken stared at the tray of food on his desk when he hobbled back into his room. Well, that looked familiar. At least he knew it was decent--if he cared to eat in the first place, which he really didn't. His head still hurt horribly, and he certainly didn't feel like dealing with Homura tonight--which of course meant his roommate was going to want to talk.

Ken knew what the likely subject would be, too.

He took the painkillers the nurse offered--after all, he could afford to be fuzzyheaded, he wasn't going anywhere tonight--and let himself fall onto his bed. Maybe if it looked like he was asleep, Homura wouldn't bother him. Unlikely, but possible.

Oh yes, Ken's roommate very much wanted to talk, and no, pretending to sleep simply wouldn't cut it. Homura had far too much experience observing people both on the battlefield and off to be able to tell the difference.

It was a nice try though.

"You might as well stop pretending, my friend." Homura moved to his desk, the sight of the chicken pot pie a bit depressing. Had he already been here long enough to see the same meals more than once? No matter, however, as there was a topic to serve as adequate distraction. "I'm certain you can guess what I wish to discuss."

Hitsugaya was ravenous by the time dinner came, having not eaten since the previous dinner. Yet still, the sight of food once it came to the room made him nauseous. Still, the rational knowledge that he needed to have his strength about him won out over the irrational fear that the pot pie might include something other than chicken entirely, and he ate his meal quietly and slowly. It was no small measure of will to keep himself from throwing it back up.

Once finished, he would have to set about mapmaking again. It was busywork, the same sort of paperwork he had engaged in back in Rukongai. It reminded him of home, and that was enough to make him reluctant to give it up.

For the time being, however, he focused on stomaching his meal.

SubZero hadn't realized that he had fallen asleep in the last shift, and was very irritated with his nurse for waking him up. Not for interrupting his sleep, but for sneaking up on him while he hadn't been aware of her.

He was glad to go to his room for dinner, if only because that meant that soon it would be night time and he could get something productive done.

Dinner came too quickly in Naoya's opinion. It felt as if the previous shift had just begun before he was being escorted down the hall to his room. At least his brother was here now... His brother would figure something out, he always did. Smiling politely at his roommate, Naoya approached his own dinner and sat at his desk. He had to eat quickly so he would be ready to go when night came.

Dinner once again... Fox wasn't thinking much about dinner though as he made his way back to his room, already looking ahead to the night.

He stared at the food for a moment before he started eating. He would need the energy, and unlike last night he found that he actually was hungry.

Robin staggered into the room, sat down, ate thee huge mouthfuls of dinner and collapsed onto his bed.
"Hey there, friend," he muttered.
The drugs were wearing off now, but he was feeling a little groggy. He figured he ought to have a quick nap before he headed out. He needed a clear head if he was going to watch over Lady Rukia.

Potpie - so that's what that horrid culinary atrocity was called. It's only been three days and their captors were already repeating meals. Momo sighed as she looked at the tray the nurse had carried with her and sighed even more when she realized she really would need to eat the think. She was still tired, very cold and achy.

After requesting several glasses of water, claiming intense thirst (which wasn't far off from the truth), Momo pulled her own jacket out of her closet and slipped it on. Having one that fit her was much easier to move in even if it wasn't quite as warm as Signum's. Perhaps that extra warmth was less due to the coat itself and more due to it belonging to her friend - one could never tell how much an item's association effected someone's perception of it.

With a small glare at the potpie and it's accompanying food, the shinigami dug into it. She choked on the first bite, the taste and texture reminding her how much she missed simple rice, but she swallowed it down and methodically worked on the rest of it, drinking ample water as she ate.

She'd save one glass of water so she could clean her sword once she was done with the food. She was fairly certain she'd keep it down, even if she didn't care for the taste one bit. Food was food and after the previous night, the shinigami needed her strength.

Today seemed to have passed quicker than the ones before it, but she couldn’t quite say why. Maybe it’d been because she’d actually gotten a little done this time. She’d at least placed herself on the weapons list and arranged an experimental affiliation with the group Colonel Mustang led.

Though the so called assignment for tonight had been somewhat disappointing. It seemed they’d just be doing more wandering. Integra knew there wasn’t else much she could do at present, but that didn’t erase her need to have a purpose, to want to achieve a higher position than a simple scout.

And whoever they were supposed to accompany had never even bothered to respond to that bulletin post. Integra had left her room number for them anyway, but had no intention of waiting if they didn’t come soon after the doors unlocked. Maybe it’d be better to not go with them in fact, since she knew nothing of this Dias person and how useful they may or may not be to her. The Colonel could be shoving dead weight on her and Alucard for all she knew.

As they led her in Integra sat down on her bed as per the usual, waiting for the nurses to leave again as she watched Momo who apparently was not much enjoying the given cuisine. “Is it truly that horrible?” Integra asked blandly after a moment, having no passion for any certain food as was. Obviously some types were more nutritious than others, but in the end they were all the same. Eating was just a brief chore two or three times a day to keep your body from weakness.

The hunter reclined on his bed as he had the couch in the Sun Room, tray resting over his lap as he gingerly devoured the pot pie - bit by tiny bit. Dean was a Winchester with a hearty appetite... but for the past two days the idea of upping nutrients hadn't exactly been his top priority. He'd felt ill enough without eating. Just the thought of what these bastards had done to him, and all the crap that came with it; mentally tossed aside each time.

In short, the sole motive behind eating this evening was to keep the bitch smiling that hideous, artificial... weirdly sinister smile she liked flashing everywhere. And perhaps because she'd threatened to spoon-feed him.

He'd never get these freaks. Wasn't like they actually cared if he starved.

Haku smiled up at the nurse as she settled him into his bed. Propped up with pillows, he hadn't felt so ridiculous in his life. He was being fussed over and coddled in a way that made him very uncomfortable and it took an effort to keep his polite smile.

She placed the plate of food, already cut up and unrecognizable on a tray and in his lap. "Are you sure you don't need help Chris?" Haku smiled and shook his head.

"No, thank you," he said. "I'm sure I'll be fine. Thank you very much." She patted his hair and left him to his food.

"I'm so sorry Sean," Nurse Hedgerow gushed as she opened the door for Artemis, "I'll make sure that Mr. Trick never comes near you again."

"I'm okay," Artemis muttered, but the fact that his speech was slightly slurred indicated that he clearly wasn't. His arm was still in a sling and there was a purple bruise forming at the corner of his mouth where Jack had lashed out and hit him the shift previous. It was swelling, and it made Artemis' normally elegant tone sound labored and sloppy. He wasn't pleased by this.

But all of it seemed to go out the window when he saw Haku upright in bed--a wheelchair next to him. Artemis mentally made a note that he was clearly losing his touch--he should have pursued the idea that something was wrong with Haku when Zabuza had asked him to stay behind until he came for Haku. But the prospect of tearing a psychologist to shreds, plus the argument with Jack, had pulled his thought processes away from that. He frowned.

"What happened?" He asked Haku.

"Oh he'll be fine, Sean," Nurse Hedgerow chimed in, patting the boy on the head. "Just took a little tumble is all. Come eat your dinner."

Artemis stared at the food until she left, but didn't eat. He looked up at Haku. "I prefer versions of stories that aren't riddled with lies," Artemis said simply, beginning to dissect his pie.

As Rinali was escorted to her room by the nurses, she reflected over what had happened today. She had lost her innocence, been taken here where they treated her like she was crazy, and then found Allen and Ravi here.

It was a lot to take in.

Her room was nice enough. A typical hospital room similar to the rooms she had been in before her brother came for her. She didn't focus on that, though. Instead she focused on her meal. Although she had lunch, she was surprisingly hungry. It was for the best, anyways. She had to get her strength up for tonight.

Arietta didn't like this place one bit. It was big and scary, and she couldn't find her friends anywhere! She had to find someway to get outside. They would be there. They had to be.

Her anger had mostly dissipated, replaced with a dull panic for her situation. She still had no idea where she was or why she was here. In the past, Van had always gotten her out of places like this. He would come for her now, right? He needed her. He did! She was one of the god generals! She was needed for something still, Even if she wasn't needed by Ion.

The first thing Arietta noticed as she was led back into her room was the presence of another person. She bristled at once, but by then the nurse had already left, closing the door behind her. Arietta raised her hands in front of her, now aware of the absence of the doll she usually used to hide herself in these situations.

MOMO was still a little shaky on her feet by the time she was escorted back to her room. It had been the first time she had tried healing someone since she arrived at the Institute, and the lingering effects of having done so was more than a little unsettling.

Honestly, as she plopped down onto the bed and stared at the dinner that had been left by the nurse, all she wanted to do was go to sleep. But... Well, she had slept through dinner the previous night, and look at what happened. It didn't seem likely that the same thing would happen to the same person two nights in a row, but she really didn't want to make it easier if it did.

That thought seemed to settle it for her, and the realian stood up to retrieve her dinner before she retreated as far away from the door as she could get.

Princess. That damn Turk had the nerve to say she was too scared to meet them, and then called her that? Who did he think he was, anyway? One word tonight, and Yuffie was going to seriously consider flattening his nose in.

Once back in her room and still rather irate, Yuffie wasted no time in flopping down onto her bed and burying her face in her pillow. Reno's words didn't tick her off so much as the fact that she let the stupid Turk get to her. Damnit, why was ShinRa always such a pain in her ass?

Yeah, tonight was already on a bad start.

Anise didn't waste time with starting on her dinner that night. One of her major goals for the day was to replenish her energy and to keep it up as best as she could. This was partly to hasten her injury's recovery, but also to ensure she would have enough extra strength to survive another night. While she sure as hell didn't plan on fighting any monsters head-on this night, she wasn't going to let herself get weak enough to drag down her companions.

There was a second reason for her unladylike manner of scarfing the food down as quickly as possible: she had a lot of things to do before the evening came to an end. On top of the desk, to the side of her food tray, two folded maps sat on top of her journal, with a pen lying nearby. First order of business was copying those maps for Guy. The page detailing the second floor was far from detailed, but oh well! She could worry about filling in blanks later.

When she was halfway finished with the pot pie, Anise paused to cast a look of contempt at the ear of corn that had been served as a side dish. How was she supposed to eat that with only one free arm?

Ami returned to her room, thoughtful. Her conversation with Roy and the other young man in the library had been quite helpful, and she was filled with hope. While she probably wouldn't get a chance to meet up with the healing group tonight, Ami hoped she could the following evening, and perhaps even bring them supplies, if she could find any.

She entered to find Anise already in the room, and Ami smiled genuinly at the other girl. "Good evening Anise." Ami noted her eating with only one hand. "I missed you this morning. Did you get injured last night?" Ami asked, concerned as she sat down to her dinner and wincing slightly at the discomfort in her own arm.

It just didn't make sense. He could heal anything! When the tastymean Scar blew a hole in his head, it healed instantly. Now stupid needles made him want to sleep for hours?

That made him sad.

In a matter of seconds he ate the meal the nurses gave him. Tonight he'd finally get to go be with Lust! And no stupid tasty boy would get in his way...and if he did, Gluttony would eat him, because Lust said he could!

Rangiku was quite happy to finally get to have a lie down. It had been a hectic day, not to mention stressful. At least she would be working with Gin tonight, and she knew they worked well together. And better her than any of the other shinigami.

Ugh, Kuchiki Byakuya. It just had to be him, one of the few shinigami she'd quite like to avoid working with on reputation alone. She wondered how Renji could stand working as his vice-captain. Some nobles were fine, like Kyouraku-taicho, and some took it entirely too seriously.

She flopped onto the bed and stared up at the ceiling for a few moments, debating just going to sleep, but then she'd never wake up and she had things to do. Not to mention the lure of getting a sword.

Beatrix awoke with a jolt, sitting up abruptly with a gasp. Her eyes flickered across the walls before her and she received a strong sense of deja vu. Her hand automatically strayed to her abdomen, slipping under the bottom of her shirt to feel the scar there. The last time she woke up in such a place she'd been in a coma for four years and she'd thought she lost her child.

BB.

The name brought Beatrix out of her sense of deja vu and she swung her feet off the bed and stood. Yes, her daughter had survived and she'd reclaimed her, killing Bill and everyone else that had attempted to kill her that lonely day back in El Paso. The Bride paused, narrowed slits of blue peering through the room. Where was her daughter?

Where was BB?

Beatrix prowled through the room, checking the door to find it locked. She'd been in the bathroom, she remembered, and BB had been on the motel bed watching tv. She'd been able to hear the sound of the cartoon her daughter had been watching, and no one was alive that could take her away...

Elle. That fucking bitch. Beatrix cursed as she searched the closet and the other half of the room. She'd though plucking out that snake's other eye and leaving her to thrash and wail in Budd's trailer with the black mamba was enough to finish her off. Obviously this wasn't the case.

An error upon her part. A costly one. The Bride did not like making mistakes and the knowledge that this mistake had separated her from her daughter infuriated her. She was going to find out who had her captive and destroy them. She would find her daughter and they would leave. They'd leave the country and never look back. Killing was second nature to her - someone was going to die. She'd just have to get the information she needed first.

Beatrix was checking out the other bed in the room when she heard faint noises in what she assumed was a hallway outside her door. Her mind raced with potential actions upon her part, but the basic though was she needed to find a way to get the drop on her captors. She snatched up the pillow from the bed and darted back over to her own. She lumped the two pillows under the covers to give the impression she was still asleep in her bed. It wouldn't be much, but it'd give her the moment she'd need.

She had limited places to hide. Underneath either bed was out because it put her on the low ground and there wasn't much room for her anyways, being as tall as she was. The closet could work, except when she opened the door, it squeaked a little. She'd give her position away as soon as she attempted to open it and leaving it partially open also wouldn't work.

Her options were running out and she heard the click of someone disengaging the lock upon her door. Thinking wildly, Beatrix jumped up, using the side of one of the closets to act as a springboard, and used her height and strength to her advantage. She wedged herself between the two closets, above the door, with her hands against one closet and her feet against the other. She was barely tall enough to accomplish this, as the door opened, and sweat beaded on her forehead. At least she was barefoot and therefore she didn''t have to worry about her feet slipping easily.

This had been so much easier to do at the House of Blue Leaves. The muscles in her arms started to burn due to the strain and she wasn't sure how long she'd be able to hold her position. She must still be feeling the effects of whatever drug they used on her. Only a moment longer and she'd drop down upon the unfortunate person coming into her room.

The conversation with Sheska had been an interesting one. That girl could be extremely useful to L. And she seemed so desperate for a friend... it would be easy enough to encourage that. Naomi could be perfectly friendly when she wanted to. It just wasn't her default setting.

She was a bit disappointed when her nurse pulled her away to take her to dinner. And she mentioned something about meeting her roommate. A roommate? She wasn't even going to be able to retire to her room and process all the information that had been dumped on her throughout the day? She needed time to compile her report for L! How was she supposed to do that with some strange woman in her room?

How could things possibly get worse?

The nurse opened her door and ushered Naomi inside, chattering on about chicken pie....

Somehow, Cliff always managed to cheer him up, or nearly always anyway. And Yohji was very much looking forward to their 'date' tonight, even if it wasn't actually anything of the sort. He let the nurse guide him into his room and waited until she'd left before checking under the mattress to make sure that the smokes and the bottle of alcohol were still there.

All present and correct.

He poked at the pot pie and vegetables, actually starting to eat a bit of it. He didn't like drinking on an empty stomach if he could help it unless he was intending to get absolutely plastered.

[ooc: sorry if you got this twice, I posted it with the wrong character initially, d'oh!]

"Why thank you my dear madam," Aziraphale replied as the nurse handed him his tray of chicken pot pie. He looked dismayed by the glass of water on his tray, though. "No tea?" he said, pleading slightly. The nursed paused for a moment, and then shook her head. He walked into the room, balancing the tray slightly and noticed he had a roommate. Well, it only made sense, after all, what would he do with two beds (he didn't even need the one)? The two desks would have been handy, but Aziraphale wasn't one to complain. Surely this young man must have been brought to him for some divine need, which Aziraphale wouldn't find out about until he inquired.

"Hello," he said cheerily, "I am," he hesitated for a moment, recalling his alias, "Allen Stark, and I am most pleased to make your acquaintance."

The nurse dragged him away from the bulletin board well after Dr. Landel's announcement. Armand kept the two balled-up notes in his fist.

When she deposited him in his room and departed to bring him some juice, Armand relaxed enough to let it out. Not tears. No, he wasn't quite as unnerved as that yet, but he wondered how far off that day was now. It was in a book, a "novel" that anyone was free to read. His shame was almost as acute as it was when he'd done the deed.

If what he'd done became common knowledge, he'd never make an ally here, for there was no way to explain it. He sat the food tray on his desk, not even speaking to the nurse who returned with his juice, then he uncrumpled the paper. He copied the name of the book into his journal, and jotted down the name and publication date of the first one.

Grimly, he began to methodically shred the paper with the incriminating information. Armand wondered if it were too late to start telling people his name was Andrew Ffoulkes.

The coming night was looking productive, if not glorious. The prospect of once again holding within his grasp the virus that put all other to shame was one that put William in a very happy mood that dinnershift. If it was in his nature, he would have skipped into the room which he did not instead of merely allowing himself to be escorted passively. His roommate did not seem to share his excitement though. What a pity.

"How was your day?"
