Day 27: Intercom, Evening

The intercom gave its cheery jingle just before the Head Doctor's equally buoyant voice rang through the halls.

"Ah, and finally, our day is coming to a close! Rooms and roommates have been reassigned with care, though what great partnership can start without a good meal? Ah, yes, after the nurses escort all of our patients, new and old, back to their proper rooms, everyone will have the chance to enjoy a savory chicken pot pie, full of peas, carrots, potatoes, and of course, chicken. On the side, we'll have buttery corn on the cob and green beans, and to drink, you may choose from the regular slew of water, milk, or assorted juices, which your nurse will bring to you.

"I believe that's all for now! Phew, long day, huh? I know I'll be happy to get some sleep, and thank you to all our vigilant doctors and nurses, although Dr. House seems to have gone AWOL... Hmm... Well, in any case, have a good dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again as the nurses began organizing the patients for the small trek back to their rooms.

It had been awhile since he'd last been in his room. Ritsuka wandered in and sat down at his desk, feeling rather awkward suddenly. He hadn't seen Tamaki in a few days (or however long it had been), and they had things they needed to talk about. He had no idea what news it was that Tamaki had, but apparently in his absence, their room had become some sort of clinic.

Ritsuka picked at his food, avoiding the corn and green beans for the gravy of the pot pie. He wondered how quickly the room would fill up tonight. He knew Hikaru and Haruhi were probably coming, but other than that he had no clue.

Tamaki bounded into his room, journal clutched in his hands. He had so much work to do!

"Oh! Ritsuka-kun"! He smiled widely at his roommate and bounced onto his bed, clearly energized and pleased. He was doing something! He was doing something well! He hoped everyone was proud of him....

Well, Tamaki seemed to be in good spirits. Ritsuka smiled faintly at the sight of his roommate happy. He'd been having problems the last time he saw him, so it was good to see that whatever it was had cleared up. That also meant Tamaki might be willing to tell him just how long Ritsuka had been gone. He'd never gotten the chance with Aidou.

"You look pleased with yourself. Something happen?" he asked, pushing a pea out of his food. He disliked foods that color.

"Oh, well, my clinic is getting off the ground," Tamaki explained. "It's growing and we have supplies and healers and plans to cover as much of the institute as we can!" He grinned almost nervously.

"Are you feeling better?"

So it was the clinic that had him so happy? That made sense - it did seem to have a good function in the Institute and would definitely be seeing a lot of use. He was glad that Tamaki had found his niche here and made a name for himself. He seemed like the kind of guy who was used to that sort of circle. "Oh, that's cool. Do you guys need anything? I've been to the pharmacy here before so I can grab things when I'm out and about."

He wouldn't stay in the room. He didn't like seeing injured people, but he would try to help Tamaki anyway he could. As for his roommate's question... "Yeah, I'm feeling a little better. It wasn't a big deal. I'm mostly just concerned about this gap in time I have. Do you know how long I was gone?"

"Oh! Could you?" Tamaki practically bounced. "Anything you could bring back would be wonderful! We really need supplies. Ah, pain killers, antibiotics, anything for burns, things to clean wounds...." He ticked off what he could think of.

"Thank you so much, Ritsuka-kun! Oh, how long? Ah...a day or two, maybe?" It was hard to measure time here. "Elena was sick, too. Maybe there's a bug going around? Oh! That reminds me! Last night... some awful pervert came looking for you! He smelled your pillow and wanted to touch your underwear!"

Why else would the man want to know which drawers were Ritsuka's?

Ritsuka already knew where the pharmacy was and running errands for Tamaki gave him a good excuse to get out of the way. He pulled out his journal and scribbled in the list of supplies named, hoping that the room was restocked after every raid. "Yeah, it:ll be no problem. I know where the room is already so it'll be easy to break into it again."

So long as no monsters popped up of course. He tapped his pen thoughtfully against his bottom lip as he processed the idea that only a day or two had passed.

An awful pervert? Who th-- Ritsuka blanched as he realized who Tamaki was warning about. Great, how the hell to explain this one? "Tall, blond, glasses and bandages around his neck? He's not a per-- well, he is, but not really. His name is Soubi and he's a friend of mine from home. I may have mentioned him before, but I never gave his name." Because Ritsuka never really thought he'd ever show up. "...he smelled my pillow?"

"He's your friend?" Tamaki was clearly suspicious. "Ritsuka, he's a horrible pervert! He did smell your pillow! And he....oh, it was awful! And he wanted to go through your delicates!"

How could Ritsuka be alright with that? It was awful! Grown men didn't do that! Especially not to someone Ritsuka's age!

"He was probably just looking for something to make sure the room was really mine," Ritsuka said, trying to dismiss the fact that Soubi smelling his pillow actually was kind of creepy. He'd have to talk to him about that later. Sometimes the Fighter went a little far with this 'master' business.

How to explain their relationship though when Ritsuka himself didn't fully understand it? He couldn't exactly tell Tamaki that he was a Sacrifice. He hadn't admitted that to anyone - not Yuiko, not Alfons, no one. It was too weird to say that he was mixed up in spell battles and intrigue and that he and Soubi shared a bond that went beyond just friends. If Ritsuka couldn't understand, he couldn't expect anyone else to get it either.

"He's not a horrible pervert! He just... takes things a little far sometimes." At least he started out sounding strong. Ritsuka sighed and set his fork on the tray, settling back into his chair. "...he knew my brother - that's how we met. Things just moved on from there. He's no longer just my brother's friend, he's mine, too. He's helped me out a lot and I know I can trust him. He wouldn't do anything to hurt me, Tamaki, so don't worry."

Ritsuka hoped that was enough to get around having to explain that he and Soubi fought together in spell matches that involved what amounted to bondage, and that he gave Soubi 'power' through kisses. God, he hoped he died before he had to explain that particular gem.
