Day 27: Intercom, Evening

The intercom gave its cheery jingle just before the Head Doctor's equally buoyant voice rang through the halls.

"Ah, and finally, our day is coming to a close! Rooms and roommates have been reassigned with care, though what great partnership can start without a good meal? Ah, yes, after the nurses escort all of our patients, new and old, back to their proper rooms, everyone will have the chance to enjoy a savory chicken pot pie, full of peas, carrots, potatoes, and of course, chicken. On the side, we'll have buttery corn on the cob and green beans, and to drink, you may choose from the regular slew of water, milk, or assorted juices, which your nurse will bring to you.

"I believe that's all for now! Phew, long day, huh? I know I'll be happy to get some sleep, and thank you to all our vigilant doctors and nurses, although Dr. House seems to have gone AWOL... Hmm... Well, in any case, have a good dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again as the nurses began organizing the patients for the small trek back to their rooms.

[ OOC: Remember, room threads go in response to THIS post, and please put your respective room number in the subject line of your first post. Thanks! ]

Well, it had come to dinner now. Dinner and roommates. Now he was beginning to doubt what he had heard at lunch. Even for his lifestyle, it was incredulous. He couldn't possibly get eaten, or attacked. Then again, he had thought that before, and look where it got him.

He sighed as the nurse opened the door to his new room, M91. It looked exactly the same as the room he had woken up in, with another bed beside his. Was anyone else going to be sleeping with him? Probably, there were lots of people here. As the door shut closed, he glanced to his desk, where a tray of food sat with chicken pot pie, green beans, corn, and a glass of water.

His appetite had gone out the window now. He was getting more and more nervous as night began to fall. He'd find out if that thing about getting eaten was true. He really hoped he wouldn't have to find out first-handedly.

A long day... was that it? Mukuro found himself escorted back to his room. Dinner was in the room, hm? The entire atmosphere reeked of something dirty. Then again, the entire world was like this, falsely false and so material.

He was surprised, however, when the room was occupied by someone else. He tilted his head, thanking the nurse graciously and focusing on his... roommate. A kid, a hardly someone useful from the looks of it. He did offer a greeting, however. "... hello." Before moving over to his desk where there was food.

Forgoing the food for a glass of water he wanted for his roommate to break the silence.

Danny's head turned around sharply when he heard someone else who he presumed wasn't a nurse. And sure enough, it wasn't! It was another boy about his own age.

"Oh, hey!" he said, grinning at his roommate, watching him pass by. Danny was all of a sudden stumped, unsure of what to say next. He wasn't usually this shy--it was probably because his roommate was acting so cold, pretty much ignoring him save for the greeting.

He turned his head back to the plate and took a sip from his water before asking, "What's your name?"

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"...my real name? Or the one these people insist on calling me?" Mukuro asked with a bit of a smile. The other seemed friendly enough, perhaps he could afford to be a little more genial. He turned in his seat a little, to face his roommate.

There was quite a spread of ages, from what he had seen, which was unusual. The purpose of this -- an experiment of some kind, he was sure -- was not obvious either. Though, if he were the experimenter he wouldn't have it be obvious, would he?

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What other name could he have besides his real name? Maybe a nickname, but surely not two names! That was just plain weird. Not like he was going to say it out loud to him, he was stupid, but not so stupid as to tell an almost-stranger he was weird.

High school really did teach you some useful life skills. Huh.

"Your...real...name?" he said confusedly, unsure of what he meant by 'real name' and 'the one they insist on calling him.' As far as Danny knew, 'they' (he assumed he meant the staff) called everyone by their first name. Robin and Ururu hadn't mentioned any name mix-ups, and he surely didn't have one.

"Rokudou Mukuro," he offered, the kid looked a bit stupid. Not necessarily in the moronic way, but simple. A slow inhalation, before he shrugged. "It's nice to meet you...?"

Politeness should not be overlooked, even when dealing with the mentally soft. If anything it should be extraordinarily useful, but he found it hard to keep disdain from his actions. Today had been a rather irritatingly annoying day.

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm Danny," he said, smiling slightly again. It wasn't too big of a smile, one that made it seem that he loved being here and everything around here, but rather a smaller one that showed that he wasn't trying to purposely be stupid. He just was stupid, more or less.

And again, he didn't mention the weirdness of Rokudou's name. Where the heck did that one come from?

"So, what do you think of this place?" Maybe Rokudou had been here longer than he had, and would know more about it. Plus that guy who mentioned AVALANCHE really creeped him out. He wanted to hear it from someone who seemed to be more sane and friendly.

Danny, American as well? That was two Americans he'd met so far, interesting. Mukuro nodded to himself, trying to keep the air pleasant.

"I'm afraid I don't know much, I just ... arrived... today. Someone did tell me to ask about what happens at night, I suppose we'll find out soon, won't we?" The question was rhetorical. The night could be a complete hoax, though Peter had not seemed like the kind to pull those sort of jokes.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Haha, yeah," he said, laughing nervously even though there was nothing funny about his current situation. At least, in his mind it wasn't funny, but it was probably amusing to some sick ghost who was trapping them here.

He then stopped his laughing and leaned in a bit closer. He had noticed it earlier, but thought it was a trick of the light. But his current angle made it seem like it wasn't a trick of the light, like his right eye really was red.

"Uh..." he said, pointing dumbly to his eye, unsure of how to phrase it. "No offense, but your eye looks kinda funny."

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? That was amusing. Mukuro rarely had people ask him about it -- then again, Ken and Chikusa knew and anyone else was inconsequential and unneeded. He raised a hand and pointed to his right eye.

"This one?" He asked, "...funny how?" The tone was meant to be light hearted. Of course that one, the other was blue and quite normal. The American wouldn't be able to read the 'six' kanji either, amusingly enough. Though, red was an odd enough color too, he thought.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Danny nodded, almost screaming out, "How do you not notice when one eye is red and the other is blue?!" Then again, that also begged the question why no one ever asked why someone's eye color changed when they were possessed. If they had, Danny wouldn't have been able to pull all those pranks.

"It's red," he said, putting emphasis on the word 'red,' since red wasn't a very natural color. Quickly, he added, "And your other one is blue." Even he hadn't seen dually-colored eyes. And even if he did, it was rare.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I see." Mukuro was agreeable. Yes one was red and the other was blue. Clearly his roommate deserved an award for being brilliant. There was the possibility that he had never met a person with different colored eyes, heterochromia was rare after all. Or he was simply slow.

He put the glass of water back on the desk, leaning back in his chair. "...does it bother you?" It wouldn't do for his roommate to be so disturbed by such a simple thing.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Danny was silent a few seconds, not entirely sure what to answer. "No, not really. It's just kinda weird." He shrugged the matter off. Maybe he had been a bit too forward with that question. Ah well, he could live with that.

"Any reason you have it? I think there's a disease like that, now that I think about it, but is it anything else?" Maybe Danny shouldn't have asked that, on second thought...he was getting a feeling that that question was stepping out of line a bit.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"... don't you think it's a little rude to be asking such questions?" Mukuro stood up, sliding his chair back under the desk. He was not overly tall, but the height was enough to give authority sometimes. It would be best to end that train of conversation, however. Information was a two way process and to simply give some would be unnatural.

"I'm afraid it's a bit personal, forgive my abruptness," he offered a smile and walked over to his bed. The 'subtle hint' had been given.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, Danny was right. Touchy subject.

"Sorry," he said, nodding in agreement. A few seconds later, he cleared his throat awkwardly and continued. "So...uh...lookin' forward to nighttime, huh?" he said jokingly, trying to lighten the mood that had gotten so thick and dank so quickly.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've heard our nights are interesting," that was the implication, that and possibly dangerous. How an institute such as this became dangerous at night, well, there were a variety of options. The staff certainly seemed capable of a number of things. He wouldn't be surprised if they did something quite distasteful. His experience with such people was that they were even more amoral than him, which was quite a feat.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I heard that too...I'm hoping they're not too interesting," he said. Ground-up Danny for dinner? Pass. He knew what ectoplasmic mush looked like, and it was far less than appetizing. He hoped he wouldn't be grounded up into mush, even though that was an extremely unrealistic scenario.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm afraid those I was speaking too didn't give a very good picture of what was so interesting... do you have a better idea?" it would be good to know what to expect. Besides violence of course. This world was steeped in it and moved only by it. What kind of violence was yet to be seen, he was hoping for something not too troublesome.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," he said, bluntly and dumbly. "Not really." He figured it was better not to mention the idea of being dinner foods for monsters, or whoever that AVALANCHE group was. On second thought...

"Do you know who AVALANCHE is?" he asked.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"AVALANCHE?" an organization or a person, from the way it was phrased. He couldn't recall any one person of that name, or any organization. It wasn't a family name either, then again, so far he had only met Americans and they had quite different names. "I don't believe I do."

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," he sighed dejectedly, "Okay then." Now he really was out of ideas of what to say. There wasn't much else to cover, and Danny didn't want to step on Rokudou's toes again. No, thank you, he was fine without angering anyone, even though Rokudou's angry mood wasn't quite as bad as it could've been.

At least he had a good roommate going for him.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is there any reason you asked?" AVALANCHE, then, must be here. Or they, or related to it. There weren't enough hints to really go on, but at least there was something now. He would make a point to see if anyone he spoke to knew about them. It might even end up being an educational experience.

Re: M91

[identity profile] notaghostreally.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, not really," he sighed again. "Just, the person I was talking to at lunch mentioned AVALANCHE and didn't tell me who they were. I was wondering." Maybe they were part of the monster-things, a group of them, or something like that.

Come to think of it, that was a good thing to ask on the bulletin board. Maybe he'd go down and write something there, those AVALANCHE people might be a lot of help.

Re: M91

[identity profile] adharma.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Ah." Mukuro nodded and decided to leave it at that. Clearly his roommate didn't have any information or was doing a good impression of it. It would be a waste of time to pursue the simple, when the night actually began, that was when he could test his own theories.
