What was it about Landel's Institute that enjoyed pushing peas on the patients so often? There had been only one day in the past week that they hadn't been served peas. Ashton liked vegetables, too, and was thankful for the corn and green beans..! Just.. just not these green peas. He was sure they didn't do it just to grate on his nerves, and that it was just his terrible luck, but he was beginning to wonder! Well, in any case, it wasn't enough to ruin Ashton's day, but it sure did make him frown for a moment as the nurse carried his tray in for him (as he'd kindly offered to wheel himself.) She helped him transfer from the wheelchair to his bed, and he felt a sharp burst of pain as he stood.
It was time for a pain pill, the nurse said, and Ashton took it without struggling - it looked the same as the drug before it that he'd been made to take at lunch, and there was really no other way around taking it.
The swordsman wished he'd been allowed to take the book he'd been reading, A Christmas Carol, with him to his room; well, he'd just have to finish reading it sometime later. In the meantime, it put all sorts of thoughts of Christmas in his head as he tried to pick out the peas from the pot pie. He'd have to forget that Miku said the holiday was for couples.
