Nightshift 33 - M81-M90 Block
If he didn't know better, he'd say that the intercom announcements were playing mind games tonight, more than usual.
Clark left his room apprehensive. Last night hadn't gone well; he'd probably nearly died from wounds that shouldn't have even been possible and, to make it worse, Alkaid and Badou and Claire had gotten hurt trying to help him. And what was with the intercom announcement? It sounded like Landels had gotten hacked and then there was something about the security system. Was it possible to leave? Or was it a glitch, something that could make the security system even more deadly? Clark didn't know, but he planned to find out.
Gripping his flashlight in one hand, he stepped outside.

"Maybe," Fwiffo said slowly, trying to buy more time. "We should try to figure out where she's most likely to be. I mean, checking the eating room didn't work; she must have moved since the time I saw her there."

As he came up to Fwiffo's room, he caught the Spathi's voice, though he couldn't make out the words. Well, at least his unintentional nap hadn't made him too late; when he heard a pause in the conversation, he lifted his dimming flashlight to knock on the door-- then reconsidered making a loud banging noise in the vicinity of an exceptionally nervous Spathi-turned-human.
"Fwiffo, it's Captain Zelnick. May I come in?" he called out instead.

Still, he'd have to find Lust if he were to eat anyone today. He flung open the door and grinned wildly at the captain, who might have been tasty, but really wasn't going to be as tasty as the man who was his roommate. "Hi!" Gluttony said with a good-natured smile. "Are you going to help me find my Lust, too?"

"Um, hello Captain," Fwiffo said weakly. "This is my roommate, Gluttony..."

... good god, he DID look like he could open up his mouth and just bite your head off. No wonder his Spathi ally had been afraid.
Still, just because he was now officially the scariest thing Zelnick had come face-to-face with in this place, didn't mean he was as dangerous and scary as he looked, and Zelnick mustered up a smile. No need to be (more) impolite (than usual), was there?
"Hello, and no, I'm not." Hmm, maybe too blunt. "I'd like to, but I'm pretty sure I'd be useless-- I don't even know what your Lust looks like, or where to start looking for..." Oh, damn, was Lust a he or a she? Fwiffo had mentioned it in his report, he was sure. "... them."

... wait.
Zelnick wasn't a particularly cunning person or a good liar, but Gluttony didn't seem to be particularly bright, so maybe he could get himself out of this, for the moment.
"I'm sorry," he started, trying not to sound as if he was lying through his teeth, "but I already promised to help Fwiffo find someone who's very important to him." Someone named 'relative safety,' hopefully. "It's my job as his commanding officer, so I can't help you tonight, okay?"
no subject
"Lust is more important," he said decisively.

He had talked the obsessive into doing what he wanted, though, or at least tricked them; how had he done it with the Ilwrath? Oh, right, imitated their gods. He... didn't think that was an option today.
"Ah, if you say so," he said, trying to buy a moment to think. Was this a tactical maneuver, now? He needed to get hold of Fwiffo and back down to the women's block... he called up a mental map of this place. The recreation field would be at the far end of the hallway outside this block, right? If he could cooperate long enough to send Gluttony off in that direction, he could make a dash down the other way.
"All right! Let's go find your Lust," he agreed suddenly, smiling strainedly at Gluttony. "Since you know her best, you should take point, so you'll be able to spot her first. And we should look someplace that's open, so there's nothing in the way of looking for her!"
Oh god, he was an awful liar.

He was always terribly lost in this place without his Lust.

"Down this hallway, left and out of the patient block, left at the long hallway-- there should be a door at the end to lead us outside," Zelnick said, after a moment's thought. Nevermind that he was going to turn right and take Fwiffo with him. "You can do that, right? And I'll push Fwiffo for you! We can follow right along." This forced smile looked a little less forced, or so Zelnick hoped.
