Nightshift 33 - M81-M90 Block

If he didn't know better, he'd say that the intercom announcements were playing mind games tonight, more than usual.

Clark left his room apprehensive. Last night hadn't gone well; he'd probably nearly died from wounds that shouldn't have even been possible and, to make it worse, Alkaid and Badou and Claire had gotten hurt trying to help him. And what was with the intercom announcement? It sounded like Landels had gotten hacked and then there was something about the security system. Was it possible to leave? Or was it a glitch, something that could make the security system even more deadly? Clark didn't know, but he planned to find out.

Gripping his flashlight in one hand, he stepped outside.

Gluttony shrugged. "That's ok! You can help me find Lust anyways! She's tall and has black hair and is good and nice and kind and good and does good things! You'll help me find her!" It wasn't a question so much as a statement of obvious fact. Why wouldn't he help him? And if he was a captain, he'd be able to find Lust in no time flat! And it would be good and he'd be happy and she'd let him eat his extremely tasty looking roommate, and maybe have the captain for dessert. Wouldn't that be yummy?

Fwiffo whimpered faintly, covering his eye with his hands. This wasn't working! The Captain was supposed to talk Gluttony into letting Fwiffo go, not get roped into the search! What in the world was Zelnick doing? Surely he couldn't be thinking of making an alliance with the creature!

Had he just been told he was going to find this Lust person anyway? He had been, oh man. And he probably didn't have time for this-- he was going to go supply searching tonight--

... wait.

Zelnick wasn't a particularly cunning person or a good liar, but Gluttony didn't seem to be particularly bright, so maybe he could get himself out of this, for the moment.

"I'm sorry," he started, trying not to sound as if he was lying through his teeth, "but I already promised to help Fwiffo find someone who's very important to him." Someone named 'relative safety,' hopefully. "It's my job as his commanding officer, so I can't help you tonight, okay?"

Well, that sounded important, and it made Gluttony pause for a second to reconsider, until a single solitary truth came out, one that was without question or debate.

"Lust is more important," he said decisively.

Ohhh, this wasn't going to work. He was doomed, doomed to a horrible demise. Fwiffo gave the Captain a completely stricken, helpless look, seeming to practically wilt in his chair. Why aren't you saving me, Captain? the look plainly said. Or something along those lines.

Fwiffo's desperate look got a worried one in reply. Trying to reason with someone obsessed had never been Zelnick's forte.

He had talked the obsessive into doing what he wanted, though, or at least tricked them; how had he done it with the Ilwrath? Oh, right, imitated their gods. He... didn't think that was an option today.

"Ah, if you say so," he said, trying to buy a moment to think. Was this a tactical maneuver, now? He needed to get hold of Fwiffo and back down to the women's block... he called up a mental map of this place. The recreation field would be at the far end of the hallway outside this block, right? If he could cooperate long enough to send Gluttony off in that direction, he could make a dash down the other way.

"All right! Let's go find your Lust," he agreed suddenly, smiling strainedly at Gluttony. "Since you know her best, you should take point, so you'll be able to spot her first. And we should look someplace that's open, so there's nothing in the way of looking for her!"

Oh god, he was an awful liar.

Gluttony squinted at Zelnick suspiciously for a few moments. He didn't seem too happy about finding Lust, but he was willing to help so that was good. "Okay," he said at last. "We can go to the open field place! Where is it again?"

He was always terribly lost in this place without his Lust.

What? Fwiffo stared at Zelnick in complete shock. They were going to help Gluttony after all? What happened to saving him?

Fwiffo had obviously fallen for it, which wasn't exactly good, but Gluttony had too, which meant it had a chance of working.

"Down this hallway, left and out of the patient block, left at the long hallway-- there should be a door at the end to lead us outside," Zelnick said, after a moment's thought. Nevermind that he was going to turn right and take Fwiffo with him. "You can do that, right? And I'll push Fwiffo for you! We can follow right along." This forced smile looked a little less forced, or so Zelnick hoped.

"Okay!" Gluttony said, then stepped past the Captain and followed the man's directions. He'd find Lust! Hooray!
