Nightshift 33 - M81-M90 Block

If he didn't know better, he'd say that the intercom announcements were playing mind games tonight, more than usual.

Clark left his room apprehensive. Last night hadn't gone well; he'd probably nearly died from wounds that shouldn't have even been possible and, to make it worse, Alkaid and Badou and Claire had gotten hurt trying to help him. And what was with the intercom announcement? It sounded like Landels had gotten hacked and then there was something about the security system. Was it possible to leave? Or was it a glitch, something that could make the security system even more deadly? Clark didn't know, but he planned to find out.

Gripping his flashlight in one hand, he stepped outside.

Finally! Nighttime! Now to find Lust! He glanced at his roommate again. "Let's go find Lust!"

The announcement that had played over the intercom and radios had been more than enough to change Marcus' mind about what he should do tonight. He had wondered why no one had been able to escape, but the confirmation that there were shields keeping people from simply going over the walls wasn't surprising.

It made sense for a place with this advanced technology to have a force field of some sort. Clearly Dr. Landel hadn't planned to have that play, and the emphasis on the hacking during the broadcast. Worth investigating for sure. Hopefully Logan didn't have any plans for tonight, but if he did, Marcus could manage without him.

The announcements had Leon wondering if he and Leon shouldn't ignore their current orders and check out what he suspected it meant. On the other hand, this was the first night he was actually doing something for the cooking group and it might make a bad impression if he didn't do as asked.

He'd just have to ask Kadaj when they met up. If his silver-haired companion had the same idea then he couldn't say it was all his fault, could he? (Well he could, technically, but he'd be a big fat liar.)

They'd agreed on the main hall, so he intended to make his way there as quickly as possible.

Keman had to move quickly. He had to get to Fai's room and meet Orihime, so that he could get his arm taken care of and then run over to Valyn's room. He could already 'hear' both Shana and Valyn...no doubt Shadow would be joining them shortly.

The broadcast coming in over the radio and intercoms made him pause, but only briefly. Something was wrong, but he didn't have time to dwell on it. There were people waiting for him.

Another night, another evening of uselessly puttering back and forth. Well, on the plus side, he had reason to believe Phibrizzo might still be around, excuse enough to wait a few minutes before heading down towards his previously scheduled meeting. Glancing around the hallway, he waved cheerily in the dark as he saw his roommate waiting for someone as well, then leaned against a wall.

If Lord Hellmaster didn't show up soon, Xelloss would just move along without speaking to him for yet another night. It wasn't terribly far to his destination, the delay shouldn't be too costly.

Well that chocolate cake tasted mighty good. Glancing over his shoulder, he saw a depressed Brook. Insert evil smirk. "It's not my fault you finished your cake so quickly. You should learn to take the time and savor your meal; it's not like it's going to run away from you."

Hefting his pillow case, full of his materials and sword, over his left shoulder, Archer held his flashlight in his right, scanning the hallway. "Ready?"

[identity profile] promisedawhale.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"But it fell on the floor!" Brook protested, depression showing as he sulked out after Archer, metal bat trailing along the ground due to his slackened posture. "And you eating yours in front of me like that was just cruel! I was only worried for you, and that's why mine ended up on the floor in the first place! So mean, Archer-san!"

And yet he was following his roommate out anyway. He had no other choice really. After the late start thanks to Archer's cake cruelty Brook was certain that he wouldn't be able to find any member of the crew in Luffy's room. They were all going other places tonight, and while he was sure that Nami would be heading for the basement (a venture he wouldn't willingly undertake), he wasn't so sure where Luffy and Zoro would end up. He'd not been given an assignment either, so that left him on his own to find either a Nakama or, as he was going now, an instrument! Archer knew the way to the music room from here, and he'd been helpful with directions so far!

Leon barely even noticed when Clark left the room. He had more important things on his mind, tonight, like what to do with the spoils of the night before. It would be unwise to carry around the things that he didn't need right away, so hopefully Seiya wouldn't mind a brief trip back to Leon's room to drop some stuff off. Leon couldn't think of any better way, really. At least his area of the barracks was closest to the women's area.

Phibrizzo did, however, have need to speak the the priest. It had been some time and the Mazoku lord have many things he needed an update on, least of which his subordinate's actions. Slinking into the hall, he approached Xelloss with one hand to his side and a flat look on his face.

"Xelloss." He didn't say anything beyond the name, not yet.

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't look very happy. Actually, he didn't look very anything, which was odd; Lord Hellmaster had a number of interesting personality quirks, in Xelloss's naturally respectful opinion, and one of those quirks was an absolute inability to do 'neutral.' Happy, angry, even when acting he was 100% in his part. The flat expression probably didn't bode very well, but then again, it sounded as though Phibrizzo had had a difficult night last night.

Xelloss smiled and bowed, as usual. His roommate was still wandering about, and Xelloss did glance lightly in that direction, but honestly it seemed the heroic fellow who was like a humorless Gourry had other things on his mind than his ill-gotten roommate.

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I want a report on your activities for the past nights," Hellmaster demanded, cutting to the chase. He didn't have any other plans for the evening, not yet anyhow, but he suspected Xelloss had plenty of information he could pass on.

Would he? Hellmaster would make him. After not speaking with the priest for several evenings, he needed to be reassured that his interests were still being looked after.

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that was straightforward. He spoke quietly and evenly, though it was nothing he was too worried about. Zelgadis (it couldn't have been Amelia and no one else would know) had openly called him a Mazoku on the bulletin board; it was more embarrassing than threatening, but still rather a lapse. Fortunately, no one here seemed to understand the significance of that term, or else they simply hadn't followed the exchange. Or there were enough of the equivalent here from other worlds that it didn't matter.

"I've met with different individuals within the Institute, attempting to make alliances and also to find others who have magical or supernatural abilities. Tonight, I've arranged a meeting with someone who claims to have the ability to draw out the power of others. I'm curious as to the strength of this ability and whether it could be used for our purposes." ZEX was 'making alliances' in a sense, sort of. Well, it hadn't turned out well, but... "I've met with the princess and Zelgadis since we last spoke, and negotiated a peace with them. Ideally, they will also be helpful for our purposes. I believe Zelgadis remains unaware of your presence here."

His purpose, really, to find magic still extant within the walls of the Institute and to find a way it might be channeled into a greater single force.

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Phibrizzo folded his arms and cocked his head as he listened to Xelloss's report. It was a decent amount of progress, yes, but the Mazoku lord still couldn't help but feel a little impatient.

"And that's it? No other progress to report?"

Well, he could wait if he needed to. He'd done that enough in the past, but it didn't make him any less unhappy to hear that as far as physical progress went, they were still in square one.

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Xelloss considered. Really, there wasn't much he could report otherwise, until it reached the point of 'we have a number of people willing to work with me in an organized fashion.' That might be.... quite a ways off.

"I also made a human extremely uncomfortable last night?" That wasn't progress at all, but he was still proud of it. He'd done a good job on that.

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2008-07-10 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I...see." Well, that was an accomplishment. Phibrizzo wasn't going to deny the priest that...

"What is your relationship with Rhode," he inquired suddenly. "I encountered last night and she was quite keen to play with you. She also seems to be aware of the connection between you and I." He arched an eyebrow. "And I certainly didn't tell her anything."

Stepping out into the hall, Logan could tell instantly that Cole was already there, waiting for him, no doubt. He stepped up to the man, leaving the door open for Parker to follow through after him. "Where tha hell ya been all day, bub?" There was amusement in his tone, to imply that he was only mock-angry. "Been looking fer ya. Foun' somethin' las' nigh' ya migh' fin' interestin'."

He didn't wait for a response, merely continued on another topic. If it wasn't for the years and the gravel in his voice, he might have sounded like an excited schoolboy yammering to his father about the day he'd had. "Ya hear tha' dreck on tha intercom? Course ya did, everyone did. Wha' ya make o' it, bub? Coz I'm thinkin' we might have a chance a' gettin' a few o' these people outta here, once we do a little more snoopin' o' course." And then, then, it would be time to pay Landel a little visit. That dark smile played across his features again.

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I plan on investigating the shield surrounding the walls tonight. I think that climbing the wall that separates the courtyard and the field might be enough to give me a chance at getting over the main wall," Marcus said. He had no intention of leaving the facility, but if they could find a way to get people out.

"There's no telling what we'll find when we get outside, there will probably be more creatures outside protecting the grounds, so I don't want to have people escape just to get eaten outside the walls of the hospital," Hopefully Logan didn't make any plans, but it sounded like he was willing to go.

"I'd like you to go with me tonight if you have no other plans," If he did have plans... Marcus could go out alone, and he'd probably bump into Stefan along the way. There was a good chance his former friend had come up with the same idea he had.

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that was inevitable.

"I met Rhode Camelot on the return ride of the buses from the small town we visited several days ago. On the bus, she correctly identified me as non-human, along with a few other traits. She also pointed out other non-humans on the bus. I believe that her ability may have given her some capacity to recognize the similarity in our forms. You may recall an individual called Reinforce which I warned you about early upon arrival, who also recognized some aspect of my nature?" Xelloss pointed out politely. "As for Rhode's behavior, I believe she's fond of me. She seems to at least have some interest in... the sort of casual hobbies that lower Mazoku often indulge in." There, that was vague enough, as a way to discuss torturing humans.

Logan glanced over his shoulder towards the still-open door of his room. This was somewhat awkward. Parker had seemed keen to have him 'tag along' as he went traipsing around with his new buddy tonight, but clearly Cole had other plans. And Logan didn't need it carved in stone to know that those two weren't exactly...compatible.

"Parker wan's me at his back ta head upstairs ta'night', but I get tha feelin' tha's more o' a...formality than anythin' else. He'll be out in a sec, we'll work it out from there." Truth be told, whilst he didn't care too much for just running for the border (there were too many people in here that didn't deserve to be left to be turned into chum, as Cole had mentioned), he was more than willing to take a shot at trying to kill something, as usual.

Peter was able to listen to the second intercom announcement as he changed, and it was enough to spark his interest. It sounded like the two men had been working on this project of theirs for a while, considering how much younger they sounded.

The hint (which must have come from the new voice behind the radio) was easy enough to puzzle out, though Peter wasn't exactly sure he trusted it. Just because they got over the walls didn't mean they were home free. The trip to Doyleton had proved that much.

He didn't think it would be a good idea to change his plans to check it out, either. There was a good chance that there were going to be monsters guarding the exits, and Harry still didn't have a weapon.

He finished suiting up by pulling his mask on and then headed into the hall, only to find that Logan and Statesman were already chatting. He glanced from one to the other and then shrugged his shoulders. "What's going on?"

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Phibrizzo tapped his foot. "Well, since it's your doing, you keep her under control and out of my sight." Hellmaster didn't have any great desire to see the little hellion again, not anytime soon. Continuing on, he put a hand to his chin and said, "Now then, tell me more about your plans for tonight. Who is it that you're meeting?"

[identity profile] enigmaticmedium.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Xelloss scratched the side of his face in consternation, not really sure how any of this was actually his doing. After all, he hadn't asked the girl to come over and correctly identify him, or mentioned there was another of his kind in the Institute. But there was no sense in arguing, so he nodded.

"The person I am meeting is named Peter, he is not sure if he can draw out abilities dissimilar to those in his own world, but I thought it was worth a try." Xelloss paused, and decided not to add that he wasn't sure Peter would not get lost or eaten on the way to the meeting spot, having an apparently weak sense of the outline of the Institute.

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-07-11 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Talking about the second announcement," Marcus said. "I'm going to go see what's outside the walls, and how likely it is for people to actually escape once they're outside the walls," Part of him expected the answer to that to be 'not very', but it was worth investigating.

What he really wanted to know was how far out the transformation that happened at night took place, though he imagined it might be very hard to get to it in a single night without the ability to fly like he could before he was brought here.

He had the feeling that once they were outside the walls, there would be quite a few creatures for them to face. It would be the first line of defense against people from the outside, and the last line for people trying to escape.

[identity profile] metamollusk.livejournal.com 2008-07-12 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ack! They couldn't leave yet; how would the Captain ever find and rescue him if Gluttony had carried him off to who knows where? "W-wait a minute!" Fwiffo cringed, wringing his hands. "Perhaps we should come up some kind of plan first, or figure out the best place to look for her...?"
