The combination of experience and walking in silence even for a couple of moments, without the distraction of conversation, heightened Lunge's senses; he was able to pick out the angles of the ruins up ahead sooner than he had before, in spite of the fog.

Everything was as it had been during their last visit, just as battered and weatherworn and littered with debris. He hadn't memorised the area- there wasn't much of a point- but if he had, he wouldn't have been surprised if he found that everything was precisely the same, down to the last brick. A third viewing had worn most of the shock value off, but even so it was difficult to ignore the sense of melancholy every inch of the place seemed to breathe.

As for a more literal breathing the area seemed clear enough, though it was impossible to say for certain now that there were so many more hiding places available to whatever seasoned predator happened to be in the area.

Lunge lowered his flashlight. "There's little point in looking at the church again. Where should we start? Over there?" He gestured to the nearest shadow of a building to their left- between what he could barely make out through the remains of the nearest window with his flashlight and the scratched, battered old signage on the outside, it looked like some sort of a store.

The ballroom was just as Beatrix remembered it, all marble with its fountains and the silver wall sconces with lit candles. As the Bride descended the stairs, leading the two assassins the bitch, she kept her sword at the ready in case there were enemies lurking amid the very large room and it's flickering light.

Reaching the closest sconce, the Bride turned her flashlight off and stowed it in her waistband. The sconce was easily removed from the wall, as it had been the last time she was here, and she held it aloft like a torch.

"I was unable to open any of the four doors by myself the last time I was here. I'm unsure as to the mechanism needed to open either of these doors," she said, pointing to the north and south doors. "But the other two had a slight amount of give to them. I was simply not strong enough on my own to move them."

She moved toward one of the fountains as she kept a sharp eye out for surprises, expecting at least one of her companions to be more focused on the room's layout and obvious expense than the potential dangers.

The strain of focusing on the troublesome lock for far longer than would have been necessary was making the spots dot her vision spectacularly now. River stumbled through the now-open door and into the empty cafeteria, slumping into a seat as she struggled to collect herself. The effort exerted in climbing the wall coupled with the focus needed to pick the lock, a lock she would've otherwise kicked open were it not for the eerie exhaustion she felt after landing in the Courtyard, was enough to send the stars in front of her eyes spinning in a maelstrom of white and blue and every color muted in black and white.

Hair hanging in her face, River bit her lip as she waiting for the spinning to stop.

Allen struggled to keep Sanji from falling over as they walked further into the institute. The halls were so dark without the portable lanterns, it was difficult to see much going on in front of them. He didn't like it, but there wasn't much he could do about it for the time being.

"Whatever is close I guess," Allen replied to Sanji's question. He hadn't thought much further than that. As long as there was a place where the other could rest until the effect of the drugs was gone, it didn't really matter where, did it?  "Unless you want to go to yours?  Mine is much further up the hall."

It was almost a relief to find his bare feet landing on dirt again, and Cloud stopped as he allowed the door to swing shut at his back. He found a gentle sigh leaving his lips as he felt the coolness of night press down on him, so natural that he could not help but take a moment to enjoy himself. This was familiar, even in its foreignness.

He slowly moved over until he was walking across the grass, his gaze moving around the courtyard with a sudden renewed sense of determination. He took a little more time than he had in the previous locations to just explore the new surroundings, finding the trees and benches something of a novelty from compared to what he normally saw.

Sighting the pond, he approached and stared out over the silent waters. It reminded him of Aeris, but he told himself instantly that she had forgiving him for his past sins. It still reflexively brought a pain to his chest, even if his expression failed to alter with the feeling. The pond felt like both a blessing and a curse to look over.

“I never said thank you for what you did for me,” he murmured softly. “I have forgiven myself too... you would be proud of me for it, I am certain.”
