Day 41: Intercom, Evening

When the intercom's jingle sounded, there seemed to be some kind of tapping in the background noise, like letters being punched into a keyboard. It stopped and the Head Doctor chuckled.

"Hello, everyone! I'm actually taking a break from paperwork for once – everyone needs some recreational time, you know! – and of course, now we can all look forward to a scrumptious dinner from our cooks. Tonight, herb-seasoned grilled salmon is on the menu, served with buttery mashed potatoes and asparagus. All our regular drinks and vegetarian options are available, and for dessert, we will be serving yellow cake with a whipped cream icing.

"...Well! I can hardly wait to get my own dinner after saying all that. Good bye for now, everyone, and enjoy your delicious food!"

The intercom clicked off.

Ugh. Dahlia was thankful for small miracles. It had been a long day, she was tired of sobbing hysterically on Junpei's shoulder, and dinner by herself (shortly followed by sleeping and not being hanged) sounded wonderful. She played the normal innocent game until her nurse was out of the room, then went to eating her fish with gusto. Much better than prison food. All she needed now was some more lackeys to do what she wanted them to and everything would be perfectly fine with her.

That little 'pen-pal' route sounded like it had some promise, at least with helping in the 'suckering people to her side' department. As long as that stupid, nosy attorney was around, she needed all the help she could get to paint him as the villain he was. What was he thinking, getting in her way again?! Didn't he learn his lesson the first time? Obviously not, the moron.

...She was halfway through with her fish when she finally noticed the second bed in the room. Great. And just when would this cellmate decide to grace her with their company? Hopefully later. She didn't feel like dealing with anyone right now.

Eileen wasn't entirely certain what to expect when she was led back to an entirely different room than the one she'd left that morning. Why did they keep changing rooms? Or was it just standard when new patients were brought in?

She understood it all meant that she wasn't rooming with Renamon anymore. The girl had been nice - and helpful. They hadn't been terribly close, but Eileen liked her. And it was nice, having one stable person she saw and talked with every day.

She was escorted to F34, and she made note of the number. She was ushered in, and gave the red haired woman already inside a friendly nod and a little wave. Obviously, this was her new roommate.

That stretch of silence in the shower lasted far longer than X would have liked. He did, occasionally, turn his attention to Grell and doing as such lifted his spirits a bit (was it considered leering if they looked back?), but so long as he was trapped in that room with that steam and water irritating his burn, he was not alright. Needless to say, he was quick to leave the instant it seemed IX would say no more.

It appeared that Mr. Grants was not in the quarters at the moment, which was fine with Luxord. He took to slowly eating his dinner and planning the events for both the night and the next day in his head. To think, last night was such a fine experience! Now he was having to take care of an injured II, "Tim" was plotting his demise, dearest Brainiac was trying to place a wedge between him and Celes, Celes had every right to be suspicious of his actions, and Grell was... well, Grell was Grell and Luxord appreciated that. What a mess this was all becoming...

As von Karma started in on his meal in his new room, he reflected on what had happened during the previous shift. Despite the promise of a potential new minion, his mood had gone from marginally pleasant to grumpy (although the latter was hardly new for him) just in the space of what was apparently only a couple of hours. His attempt to control the high amount of worthless nonsense on the bulletin board was foiled by reminders that he was merely adding to the "noise to signal ratio." Very well. If they were uninterested in using it to share more practical information, such as what his student and this "Lelouch" were doing, so be it. He would just have to continue to seek out more rational people to talk to in person, such as Javert.

The conversation with his former roommate had brought about more questions than answers. Other people had disappeared and returned but without memories of this place? Why had this not been the case for him? But before they could solve this bizarre riddle, the blasted nurse had dragged him to the shower, thus abruptly ending their talk. Unfortunately, he would not get to talk to Javert again for the rest of the day; they both had been assigned new roommates.

von Karma was not particularly eager to meet this person, especially since the nurse had said that he was new to the Institute. The last thing he felt up to doing was answering questions from an ignorant patient -- especially when he himself had a number of them that were as yet unanswered. Hopefully, someone else had already filled this man in on the oddities of this chaotic hellhole.

Megatron’s female human, as inevitably as always, had returned. The voice over the intercom was odd, and horrifically cheery – obviously, the Quintessons had brainwashed a few dozen humans into performing their bidding, along with a few figureheads to keep the masses in line.

The human had let him stop at the bathroom, which turned out to be a wholly traumatizing experience unto itself. What had truly shocked him, even more than this body’s natural biological processes, was the discovery of his reflection in one of the mirrors. It had been rather surreal, watching a human face, a human form, copy his movements. Megatron’s facial components were as lined as he had assumed, and he was unfortunately in possession of more hair than what should be possible.

Any denial of his humanity, his mortality, to that point was quickly nullified. He was not only organic, but also a clearly aged organic. Age wasn’t a concept that was necessarily a predominant worry for Cybertronians, as they could be upgraded to a point. This was not something he could upgrade from. The lone relief came in the form of his eyes. Even though optics had now become human, they were identical no matter what form he was in – a dark, familiar red.

Megatron, of course, was quickly retrieved from his musings. The nurse lead him down corridors until they came to a halt in front of an anonymous door, as identical as all the others that lined the hallways. The female calmly handed him his dinner tray, before leaving him to his own devices.

Surprisingly, there was another human settled with his own food. An older man, aged to point not unlike Megatron’s own human form, and reasonably impressive in stature – especially in comparison to those he had met throughout the day. Judging by the nature of which the facility was run, Megatron was reasonably suspicious that the Quintessons were setting them all up for a one-on-one death match. They were allowing their human captives to refuel to their fullest potential before fighting, and the victor would move on to verse the creatures that were kept within the halls.

"Evening," Megatron dryly acknowledged, quirking both brows. It was an odd turn of phrase that Sumdac had often used, and it would serve Megatron’s purposes just fine.

The room was sparse, and extremely sterile. Needless to say, quite appealing to Cybertronian tastes. There were two recharging berths, a table with additional storage, and two containment units. Leaving his dinner on the table, he pushed the journal to the side with a snort, and roughly tugged open the drawers.

Miniature locking devices – no doubt to the room itself - they would be of use. Two sets of small, human-sized batteries were an oddity, as he could see nothing that they would be placed in. He rummaged for a moment more, and - ah Writing utensils. Useless in theory, but with enough force, should surely be able to penetrate a primary organic artery. He knew they would have little bearing against the creatures he was suspecting to find within these walls, but they would suffice until he could find a weapon of greater value.

He pocketed three pens, before turning his attentions to the containment units, not remotely worried by how odd he would appear to his human associate. His searching proved fruitless. Nothing but human coverings, all with that infernal insignia. The realisation was enough to make him pause. The symbol was rather distinctive. Colourful. Happy. From what little he could recall of the Quintesson insignia, it was also emotive in nature. However, that symbol had always been a sign of aggression. For creatures that were so debatable in their own emotional nature, they certainly defined themselves rather expressively.

Who knew Quintessons could have senses of humour? Their primary embellishment one of furious power, whilst the symbol of the containment facility – supposedly Landel’s - was endlessly and irritatingly joyful.

...it further condensed Megatron’s belief that they were being used for infantile entertainment.

Done with his searching, Megatron sat back down at his table. He eyed his fuel with distaste, before turning to the human.

"I do not suppose yours is any more appetizing."

For once, Lockdown didn't grumble as he was led back to his room for evening refuelling. After the events of last night and today, he had a feeling that he and HK-47 were going to have some very interesting conversations tonight.

HK wasn't here yet, so Lockdown just sat quietly on his bed until his fuel was brought to him. "Well, let's see what I'm suppossed to intake today,"

The bounty hunter looked down at his food. Today it was some sort of pink meat (salmon, he suppossed), a lump of white stuff, possibly the 'potatoes', and some sort of vegetation in the form of small green stalks. Lockdown started on his meal, taking his usual tiny bites, since he had nothing better to do until HK got here.

HK should have been distinctly miffed at the whole world at this particular moment. His hair was still wet, every once in a while releasing a few drops of water down the back of his neck in small skirmish attacks on the dryness of the rest of him. The shower that had gotten him wet in the first place was another reason he should be miffed. After all, he'd had to deal with the terror that was meatbag-kind, unclothed in all their squishiness.

But HK was not miffed, because he was having a delightful time confusing the fek out of his nurse. She always kept saying how he shouldn't talk about such morbid subjects, but now that he was cheerfully spouting off phrases like "Statement: I just adore all meatbags." And only subvocalizing the rest of the statement so that it could be true, the nurse now suspected he was up to something.

He was still talking almost without stopping for breath as he was lead into his cell. That unfortunately meant that the other inorganic would hear him, and that might absolutely ruin his blood-stained reputation, but... Kriff it. HK decided he would test out this new psychological weapon on everyone within range.

His nurse almost fled as he called "Valediction: Good night, meatbag!" Droid-kind triumphs again!

As predicted, Scar hadn't been able to leave the depths of hell damp room before making an attempt at showering. He received a scolding from his nurse as she helped his charge into his clothing before being led back to his room. The feline merely chose to ignore her aside from shooting her the occasional glare. After all, having to get wet was totally her fault!

On the bright side, at least he didn't have to endure such a hellish experience for a day or two again.

It seemed his dear roommate hadn't arrived just yet, so Scar settled on the sleeping-furniture to eat his dinner. Or an attempt at eating it without creating a large mess, at least. In the mean time, he wondered what to do for tonight.

Well, they sure as hell hadn't moved him far. Hughes made note of the room number, shook his head, and ambled in for dinner easy enough. A good dinner and he'd back to top shape, he was sure of it.

He sat at his desk and opened up his notebook, making notes as he ate. His roommate wasn't here yet, which was fine. He'd been pretty lucky so far, when it came to who he got bunked down with. Hopefully that luck would hold. Hell, maybe it'd be someone useful.

But until then, the Brigadier General had a hell of a lot of plans he had to make. He was just thankful they had an hour or two of semi-privacy. Or as much privacy as a guy could get in this place.

This time when Otacon was led through the halls, he made a note of the layout, comparing it to the map he'd memorized from the bulletin board. Paper and pen was a good deal more low-tech than he was used to when it came to gathering intel, but the systems of organization and information exchange in the Institute were nonetheless impressive. Otacon had spent all of last shift reading the mess of notes, as much to learn more as it was to distract him from thinking about Snake.

He sighed. It hadn't taken long for his thoughts to cycle back to his improbably youthful — and living — best friend. Wait, were they still friends if Snake couldn't remember even meeting Otacon? Or was that the wrong way to phrase it, as it seemed more likely that this Snake pre-dated Shadow Moses and therefore technically hadn't met him at all?

And here Otacon had thought that things couldn't get weirder than they had nine years ago, when he'd been attacked by a cyborg ninja and rescued by action hero Snake, like something out of an anime. When the nurse ushered him in, he was so absorbed in his musings that he'd walked all the way to his desk before realizing the room wasn't empty.

"Oh!" Otacon did a double-take of the man sitting on the opposite end of the small room. "Hi. Funny... you'd think it would've occurred to me earlier that I'd have a roommate, what with there being two of everything in here..."

The shift after lunch hadn't been particularly eventful, but at least Tenzen had been allowed the opportunity to think before being herded back to 'his' room. The only thing of interest mentioned upon the board had been this trip to 'Doyleton' planned for tomorrow, which was apparently supervised heavily by the nurses. If the man of breakfast had been right and his attempt to escape this facility, the trip might at least tell him where this prison was located.

As he sat down to pick at his dinner, Tenzen occasionally glanced at the other side of the room. It seemed he was going to share this space with another patient.

[from here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/626036.html?thread=52689524#t52689524)]

Alfred had raised an eyebrow when the intercom's jingle sounded, followed by announcements for the night's dinner menu. The intercom had barely clicked off when a nurse appeared at Alfred's side, ushering him back to the room he'd woken up in.

"Here you go, Mr. Quartermain," she smiled, opening the door and pushing him gently inside. "Enjoy your dinner!"

"Pennyworth." Alfred corrected her, as the door closed in his face. He didn't waste any time staring at the closed door, instead turning back to the bed that he'd woken up in earlier. As he turned, he took the features of the other man that now occupied the room. "Good evening, sir," he greeted the other. It wasn't surprising to find another person here. The room was clearly set up to accommodate two people, so there was no reason that he shouldn't have a roommate.

He walked over to the desk at the foot of his bed, pulled the chair out, and sat down. He surveyed the dinner that had been left for him with a mixture of disapproval and distrust, although neither emotion was strongly evident in his expression.

As Kenpachi was guided to his room and given a meager, pathetic excuse for a meal, he pulled out the instructions HK had given to him and calmly perused them. They seemed simple enough, although he still much preferred the thought of jumping from the balcony over trying to follow his second set of directions. He was a man who knew his weaknesses, and finding his way through any place was certainly one of them.

He sat down at his desk and picked up the collection of pens. Like HK had mentioned, the pens certainly could work as a rudimentary stabbing device if necessary. Not as fun as a blade to be sure, but effective if used in the right location.

"Hey, this ain't my room," he said, stopping dead at the door. "I told you you were goin' the wrong way." Ryuk turned around, but the nurse wasn't moving, crazy woman. "Come on, I wanna see if Fwiffo came back or I got someone n-"

The nurse sighed, telling Ryuk he had a new roommate AND room. She gently nudged him into the room, told him to eat his dinner and threw an apple in the air for him to snatch before she closed the door.

Grinning at his apple, Ryuk turned.

"Hey," he nodded, sitting on his bed and gobbling the apple in record time (and a flood of saliva and juice). "You want my dinner or something? I dunno if they check these things."

It wasn't until Chihaya was shut alone in his room that it really hit him.

He might never see Eden again. Or his Foster Father..... Or Kagestuya. It shouldn't didn't matter. He'd...he'd saved Kagetsuya, he was sure of it. Now...he just had to get out of here and find the Black Angels. It seemed like such a small thing but...he didn't seem to have any sort of power here.

No. He couldn't wallow in self pity no matter how crazy this all seemed. He had to be strong now and he wasn't going to cry.

Chihaya noticed the food and his stomach growled. At least he was being fed. First, however... he... wanted to pray. He got down on his knees in front of the bed he was told was for himself.

He needed to pray that Kagetsuya would be looked after and kept safe. That was all that mattered to him now. Oh, and Tamaki and Hikaru, he ought to pray for them too.

"Don't come back tomorrow unless you've fixed that hair," Arachne said as his nurse let him into the room. That turned out to be his parting shot, because instead of replying she smiled at him and shut the door. He stared after her for a moment, fuming, before he really turned to look at the other person in the room.

Long pretty hair--not his type. Not to mention the fact that he appeared to be praying. This got better and better: here he was, stuck with some human, apparently, who wouldn't know a damn thing, and he wasn't even worth flirting with.

"He's not listening, sweetheart," he snapped, sliding into his chair. "You're better off praying to the Demon Lord."

For once, Ken was led into the room he and Yuki (and Yue) shared before the other boy. He followed his evening ritual of splitting his dinner and putting half on Yukito's plate (along with all the asparagus--yuck,) then started in on what he'd kept for himself.

He'd finished eating and stretched out on his bed in short order, hands crossed under his head, staring at the ceiling as if it held all the answers to the questions and doubts running roughshod in his head. He'd wait here for Aya.

Yue had been more than slightly reluctant to leave Sakura, now that he'd found her (the real her, not the false visitor), but he'd also not wanted to cause any trouble. He'd managed to stay out of trouble since the first day, and he'd no desire at all to make the staff start to keep an eye on Sakura as well. Besides, she'd agreed to wait for them to pick her up tonight, so hopefully she would. Still, he'd have to hurry and get Touya and go find her again as quickly as possible once the doors unlocked.

And he had to deal with the fact that Yukito was still unhappy about the way he'd been hiding the fact that he suspected she was there - not only from him, but from Touya as well. He'd had his reasons, though, and stubbornly clung to that; there'd been no reason to give anyone false hope.

He entered the room with the rather absent air that meant he was focused more on silent conversation with his other self than his surroundings, but upon realizing Ken was already there he blinked and withdrew again. Yukito hesitated, then sighed faintly and shook his head before giving his roommate a thoughtful look.

"Did something happen last night?" he asked, concern clear even as he moved toward his dinner. From what he remembered of the night before, Ken had looked fine when they'd run into him in the storage room, but there seemed to be additional bandages now.

The shower had done wonders for the aches in Momo's muscles and refreshed her some, but it did nothing for her mental state. Spending the shift alone, while under hot water, gave her far too much time to think. Too much time to convince herself that she was making herself feel Hitsugaya's presence. He was dead, so she couldn't be sensing him.

The shinigami listened to her nurse drone on as she was lead back to her room. The only thing of note was that apparently her cast was coming off tomorrow. That was a good thing, assuming she didn't manage to injure it further this upcoming night. Momo knew she shouldn't travel alone, but she was also convinced that anyone she brought with her would only end up dead or seriously hurt; she was death, after all.

The salmon actually smelled good to Momo, pleased that there was something she actually liked and was familiar with to eat. She still could only handle small, slow bites, but at least she was eating.

Celes was brought along shortly after Momo, her pale hair still damp despite her best attempts to completely dry it. It curled as it hung down her back. The dinner prepared smelled wonderful, and she waved her nurse off to go and eat. Surprisingly (thankfully!) Momo had also chosen to eat. The little sense of relief Celes felt surprised her only a little.

"Good evening, Lady Hinamori," she greeted her roommate with a smile and set upon her meal.

Junpei was a little reluctant to leave Dahlia when his nurse showed up to pull him away, citing dinner, but with a small smile and a few words of encouragement, he gave in. Stopping at the board, he found Chidori's drawing of the scary-ass bear and was instantly reminded that he did, indeed, have a girlfriend and was instantly upset with himself for forgetting.

It was all Dahlia's smile's fault. And her tears. And her soft hair that smelled really good. And she'd needed him. What was he suppose to do - let her suffer?

Eh. He'd worry about the consequences later, if Chidori found out he was holding a really cute older woman that was sobbing her eyes out on his shirt. It was still damp.

Oh, hey! Fish!

Whereas Beatrix was not as protective of young males as she was young females, she certainly did not care for the display she'd witnessed in the Sun Room. Ophelia's pride must have been thoroughly destroyed that night when the Bride taught her who was superior, if she felt the need to bully scrawny teenage boys to make herself feel better. Beatrix had been letting the bitch have the last two days to lick her wounds, mostly because the Bride did not possess the regenerative powers that the Claymore had, but it seemed she will have to draw Ophelia's attention back to her once again. With HK-47 getting a proper weapon that night, all three assassins would be well equipped to handle the snake-bitch when she decided to come for heads.

Sitting down to her dinner, Beatrix smiled, cold and deadly. She had just the thing to bait the bitch with...

The showers had been relaxing, uplifting in a way that nothing else been during the day. By the time Yuffie breezed back into her - currently empty - room, she felt almost normal. Her hair was almost dry, courtesy of it's lack of length, but it wasn't all cold and soggy and straggling around her neck like grossness hair-tentacles. And it definitely wasn't greasy now.

She had a lot to do tonight. So she couldn't let herself get too distracted by the roommate, sneaky and suspicious and irritating though the woman was. Sen hadn't even lifted a finger to help out last night! Even now, it sent a flash of indignation through the ninja. She stiffened momentarily, before catching herself and blowing out a frustrated breath. Right, what was that about not getting distracted by the roommate? Irritation went hand in hand with distracted, so that was best avoided.

But… but…!

Not. Helping. Sitting down so that she could get dinner out of the way, since the fish did look kind of tasty, Yuffie tried to kick her resolve back into shape. She'd just have to roll with it, whatever happened.

And now came the time that Ayumu had not been looking forward to in the slightest, especially after the exchange on the bulletin board earlier in the day. After her shower she'd twisted her damp hair up into a knot at the nape of her neck, using a pair of pens to hold it in place and not so incidentally put them within easy reach, and carefully replaced the other pens and her one hidden scalpel in their places under her clothing.

When she arrived at their shared room she appeared entirely cheerful and pleased with something, even idly humming to herself as she entered. She halted upon seeing Yuffie already there, though, her self-satisfied little smile fading into what looked almost like guilt as she looked toward her roommate.

She didn't say anything, though, only gave a small nod of acknowledgement before moving over to sit at her desk and examine tonight's dinner. It was a pity that they were unlikely to be interrupted again tonight. Spending the time until night confined in a room with Yuffie could be...interesting.

Falis decided that, for a servant, Sebastian wasn't too bad. A little stiff, but she figured that was bred into butlers. She contemplated poaching him, should the man's master either not show or prove himself incompetent, but it wasn't a serious thought. Having a servant would be nice, but it'd steer her more toward the princess side that she was having fun ignoring for the most part. How odd that in the span of two days, two have managed to pull the princess out of the hunter for a bit when no one had managed to do so before.

No matter how odd, it was something the hunter pushed from her mind quickly. She had someone's ass to kick tonight and she needed to get to Yukari before the girl headed off to meet her friend for the night. Thankfully, Yukari's room was at the end of the hall.

Knowing the fight was looming, Falis only ate half of her meal, again not touching her dessert. She couldn't afford to have too much food sitting in her stomach during the battle. Sure, she was completely confident she'd kick the arrogant man's ass, but she was expecting a challenge, so she prepared as if there might be a chance she'd lose.

She could use Senna for her preparations when the girl was done with her dinner.

Senna's day had been... so back and forth. She didn't even want to think about it. So she wouldn't! Last shift had been fun at least--Hanatarou was a cool guy once he started talking a bit. And being outside was really nice. Getting food all the time was time and all, but being cooped up inside was the pits. Going outside every night was becoming almost a highlight.

But that made her think about why Momo hadn't posted the assignments. Maybe the girl was taking a night off to herself, thought truthfully, Senna thought it might be something else. Why wasn't she...?

Ah! Not thinking about dreary stuff! Not right now. She swallowed before entering their room, and then bounded in, swiping her plate off of the desk to eat on her bed. "Hey, Falis! Nice day?"

Elfangor was let back into his room and thanked the nurse who brought him there. The smell of food was overpowering. He went back to his side of the room and turned to the plate of food. His roommate wasn't here, which was probably for the best.

The Andalite attacked his food, willingly allowing himself to be overpowered by the pleasure of taste. He had the feeling that no matter where he had been since he had disappeared he hadn't been eating properly. The food tasted as if it were a brand new sensation.

"Wonderful!" he said aloud in between bites.

Yohji was lost in thought when the nurse took him back to his room after the shower, ignoring her annoying chatter. Aya was here and he was probably from the worst point that Yohji could imagine. How would he react if he found out what had happened? The crap with Shion and the previous Weiss? Koua Academy? Yohji's own fuckups. Neither he nor Ken were the same people they had been then, far from it, and Aya would have to deal with Weiss' fractured remains.

There was Schuldig to think about too. He was worried about his friend, his... whatever it was that Schuldig was to him now. Like hell Yohji was going to try putting a name to it.

He stopped in the door when he saw his new roommate, eating like it was his last meal or something. He smirked at the sight and went to pick at his own food. He'd see how long this guy lasted considering Yohji's track record.

Argilla felt refreshed by the shower but she was already getting impatient for night to begin so that she could be away from the annoyance of the nurses. The woman insisted on giving her another talk about making sure she ate everything on her plate. She ignored the woman, going to sit on the bed until the bitch left her alone.

The majority of the meal was ignored although she did venture to try the cake. It was interesting, although not as good as chocolate. Which reminded her that she'd need to find some way of getting more chocolate in town tomorrow. Her own bar was now woefully diminished.

Mitsuru had spent the better part of the fourth shift resting her eyes in the Sun Room. She needed to be awake and alert by the time she met up with Akihiko, Amada, and his friend, in case something went wrong. She was still set that this was something they needed to do, but there was that small voice (reason, perhaps?) saying to call it off.

If they were preparing for an 'in case,' then it might be better to wait until they were sure Amada had gotten over things, but they needed to know as soon as possible who could use the Evoker and who couldn't.

At least dinner sounded pleasant, and she always welcomed seafood. Argilla once again seemed to be avoiding most of her meal, focusing right on dessert. "How does it taste?" she asked, nodding at the cake.

After having his nurse scold him for taking ages in the showers, the Scarecrow was returned to his room with a tray of something that didn't smell particularly appetizing. At least he'd gotten somewhere today- he'd learned the name of that man with the scar from the previous night, and managed to have a good conversation with Kaiji at breakfast. Speaking of his roommate, he hoped to see him tonight, seeing how their earlier discussion had gotten cut short by the end of the shift.

He set his tray on the desk and sat in the chair for a moment before pulling his feet to him and removing his shoes. The touch of the floor was nice after the warmth of the shower rooms. He rolled up one of the legs of his pants, examining the wounds he'd received a couple of nights ago- his nurse wasn't happy he'd left the bandages on during his shower and made him remove the wet dressings before he left. Red lines trailed across his calves, with a few other spots of injury. It seemed the human body healed wonderfully without much help.

Hearing his stomach complain, the Scarecrow decided to get started on dinner. At least he didn't have to worry about his injuries anymore, it seemed.

[identity profile] missedfortunes.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 07:21 am (UTC)(link)

Kaiji was, for once, grinning when he was brought back to the room that he shared with Scarecrow. Nothing of great interest had really happened to him today, but he still seemed to be strangely pleased about something. It appeared that he had been playing his cards right yesterday and things were starting to develop the potential to go his way: all he could really gripe about at the moment was being confined and the scratches on his leg that matched Scarecrow's.

No, wait, there was one other thing. But Kaiji had an idea to remedy that one other thing, and it was either the best or the worst that he had come up with in a good long while.

Tray in hand, he sat on the edge of his bed with a spectacularly suspicious look on his face: he couldn't have made it more obvious that he was up to something (or rather, going to be up to something) unless perhaps he started putting up signs and- Son of a bitch he should've posted something about his mission on the bulletin board. He'd remember tomorrow, for sure.

For now, he took on an uncharacteristically playful tone with his roommate: "Learn anything new since this morning?" The question was one part genuine curiosity, one part just trying to get some background noise, one part bizarre cheeriness, one part taking a leaf out of Sahara's book, and one part Kaiji was always a little strange.

At least Scarecrow probably wouldn't ask him if he had been drugged or anything. Not that he probably knew what drugs were.

Maybe Kaiji could give him a lesson on that later, if he could get a hold of some.

Sheena had been surprised to find the crane she'd ninja'd into Spider's pocket at the end of lunch returned to her by a nurse as she was being herded back to her room. She was even more surprised that apparently Spider had stolen the crane from her and had managed to entice the staff to return it. Did the idiot man get himself into trouble? She hadn't seen a confirmation on the board, but maybe...

Quickly unfolding the crane, Sheena read the brief message written in... blood. Ew. Okay, she had confirmation, but what was this about Harley? No, Sheena wasn't going to bring Harley with her given two simple facts. One - Yukari didn't know what was going on. The ninja didn't want to tip her hand so soon in the night. Two - Harley was well aware that the ninja kind of had a thing for someone and she'd figure out who Sheena had been talking about the moment the youkai teased Sheena. On the other hand, Spider clearly wanted her there for something. If it had been anyone else...

Sheena caught Harley in the hall, before being led down her own, and told her that Spider had asked her to tell the woman that he needed her that night for something. There. Now they could run into each other on their own. Probably.

Once in her room, Sheena picked at her food. She had mostly worked past the emotional strain of the previous night except for that issue with Reinforce and whatever the woman had done to her. Rubbing her chest, her mana still holding that lingering heavy feeling, Sheena closed her eyes. She needed to work past that, but how could she? She'd been violated, she knew this, but some day she was going to have to talk to Reinforce. Maybe she'd do so after the woman stopped being so damn scary.

Allen found his usual place at the bed and started on his tray. He hadn't seen much of Sasuke; he didn't seem much better, but he didn't seem worse either. Allen wasn't much looking forward to the prospect of going to get Tyki's smokes for the next week, but maybe he could shorten it with a wager on their coming poker game. Something to think about at least.

He ate slowly, since here there wouldn't be seconds or thirds, and tried to enjoy his meal before night came.

[[sorry for lateness!]]

It didn't really occur to Sasuke that he hadn't eaten yet today until he registered that his nurse was scolding him as she led him back to the room for dinner. Something about nutrition of which Sasuke was fully aware (it was impossible to be a shinobi without proper nutrition, with the exception of Naruto, whom Sasuke was fairly sure subsisted off stupidity).

Still, he had as little appetite as he had had at any of the other meals today. He couldn't find the concentration to eat and it simply -- didn't really seem important at the moment.

Sasuke ignored his meal and gave Allen a brief nod of acknowledgment, not bothering to strike up conversation. Fourth shift had been the only one today when he'd been able to avoid others; Sasuke was sick of talking.

The day had been a little shaking at lunch, but ultimately ended upon a high note. She liked talking to Kaoru and it had been pretty relaxing for the afternoon. Her hair was a little cool from being outside, but that was okay; she'd warm up soon enough.

Sitting down at her desk to eat her meal, Miku smiled to herself. She was excited to see Sousuke tonight, she wanted to make him happy and not as worried in the wake of Usopp's disappearance. There was only so much she could do, of course, but...

Well, she try, anyway.

She was still worried about her friends, and it didn't help that she kept getting approached by weirdos either. Sakura felt better after some time outside though, and at least she'd gotten some exercise. It was hard to be ready for anything if you let yourself go!

When the nurse took her back to her room, at least it was the same one this time. Sakura nodded to her roommate and waited for the nurse to leave before she moved on to her food. At least it wasn't a new girl again this time.

"Hey," she said and tried to smile.

That really hadn't been the most amazing shower ever, and Tyki was actually relieved he could get dressed and go back to his room. That guy just reminded him way too much of Sheryl. The Noah couldn't even decide which of the two was worse, really.

He sat down at his desk and dug into his dinner, waiting for nightshift to fall. Cheating Boy wasn't going to bring him any smokes until tomorrow, which meant he had a whole night of spare time.

But as long as the night got interesting, he wasn't going to complain.

"Well, you had a little bit of a rough start, Miss Nomiya, but tomorrow is a new day." Kaoru's nurse chirped as she let her into her room. "Enjoy your meal and I'll see you in the morning."

"Wonderful," Kaoru attempted to gush, but sat down at her desk and poked at her food. Fish? She could eat fish, it wasn't quite the same as she was used to, but it would do well enough. She had her plans for the evening. I guess this is the part where I wait for the person who owns the other bed to appear. She certainly hoped she hadn't been put in a room alone.

The pain medicine was still in effect by the time Renamon was escorted back to her room. Her mind was confused on what exactly had happened between her and Jiraiya except for the point that she was a little more relaxed for the time being. Entering her room still caused her to blink in some kind of surprise though. She guessed Eileen really was gone.

There was the slightest limp from the heavy bandages on her leg as she moved to her bed. More noticable were the cast on her right lower arm and the bandages that covered the rest of it as well as her neck leading under her clothes. All of these were stained red. The Digimon seemed to ignore it though, and looked towards the other girl. Eileen had kept to herself, so Renamon merely bowed her head, not knowing if she wanted more interaction than that.

Yuuhi was fairly relieved when he was the first one back to the room. The nurse gave him his medicine and he took it without protest. His hair was still kind of damp and, he noticed, it'd started getting long again. He should probably cut it soon. Even if it was only to keep it out of the way.

He poked at the dinner, considering what to do for the night. Lost and found seemed to be dying out, much as he hated to use that particular word play to describe it. It'd been a fine idea, but it didn't help when no one replied. It only gave them more cause to worry.

Talking with Rey had been interesting. Another person who knew about Gundam, although he seemed to be from another world, just like Sousuke's friend had been. How strange that they could have that in common and yet still be different worlds. He could understand if it was just a place with mobile suits. They were a kind of weapon like swords or guns, a generic term which could apply anywhere. But to have Gundam was a little disconcerting.

He smiled at Fai when he arrived in the room and went over to the desk, picking up the fork awkwardly with his bandaged hands. At least it was soft enough to cut without needing both hands. "Hello," he said. "How was your day?"

Kagura saw no sign of Seiya yet, so she must be the first one. Then again, she hadn't seen her last night either. Maybe she was cursed when it came to roommates. Kagura sighed and sat on the edge of her bed. She'd hoped to help Bridget tonight, but that Armand person in charge had decided otherwise. She just hoped he would stay safe and be careful.

She picked at her dinner, surprised that it did smell pretty good in spite of everything. It'd been a long day and she was hungry, so it wasn't long before her appetite returned.

Misa's nurse walked her down the hall. "Now, Miranda, you've been a good girl today. Let me introduce you to your roommate, Ruth. Ruth, this is Miranda - she just arrived today. I hope you two will be friends."

Misa sat down on the opposite bed and flashed the girl a smile. "It's not Miranda. It's Misa," she said. "How are you doin'?" Okay, she had to admit dinner smelled good, so she started eating as soon as she was settled.
