Day 41: Intercom, Evening

When the intercom's jingle sounded, there seemed to be some kind of tapping in the background noise, like letters being punched into a keyboard. It stopped and the Head Doctor chuckled.

"Hello, everyone! I'm actually taking a break from paperwork for once – everyone needs some recreational time, you know! – and of course, now we can all look forward to a scrumptious dinner from our cooks. Tonight, herb-seasoned grilled salmon is on the menu, served with buttery mashed potatoes and asparagus. All our regular drinks and vegetarian options are available, and for dessert, we will be serving yellow cake with a whipped cream icing.

"...Well! I can hardly wait to get my own dinner after saying all that. Good bye for now, everyone, and enjoy your delicious food!"

The intercom clicked off.

M54, YOUR ROOM. Leonard closed his journal and smiled at the nurse as she opened the door for him, closing it behind him once he was inside. Another anonymous room- I guess this is where I've been staying.

There were two beds, indicating these rooms were meant for two people. Plain walls, nothing tacked up. Two beds- guess I've got a roommate. I wonder which side is mine... or if he knows about me at all. He decided to sit at one of the desks, waiting to see if his roommate, if he had one, would arrive and indicate which side was his. Until then, he opened his journal, browsing his notes to see his next move.

That shower'd been anything but relaxing. On top of having to deal with the issue of just trying to wash without further aggravating anything, he'd had to argue with an idealist. Those were always the worst, because it felt like you were arguing with a wall sometimes.

Sanzo changed into his robes as quickly as he could. Wincing, he took a seat on the bed, legs folded, hands on his knees. The monk closed his eyes. He wanted to pick up from where he'd left off in the courtyard. Preferably this time without the interruption.

The monk drew in the first slow breath.

Takasugi, too, had found himself returning to his room for the evening, his hair and clothes still slightly damp. It had been a most interesting shower, indeed, having met Himura Kenshin face-to-face for the first time -a man who radiated familiarity to him, from his mannerisms to the foolish words leaked out of his mouth. Takasugi would certainly keep an eye on him in the future, already quite sure he would be one of his more useful allies in this instution. It was only a matter of twisting those intentions of his into something more lethal. Even a man with the whole world to protect, would raise his sword to kill. The Shiroyasha was more than enough proof of that. That hunger wasn't so easily forgotten -only compartmentalized-, and Takasugi knew well enough by now how to exploit it.

However, those were matters to be handled at a later date. He still had his roommate to deal with as well as another night to survive in this institution. His eye fell on the monk as he stepped inside, catching the unusual expression on his face that evinced his emotional state had not gone undisturbed.

Now, this was interesting. What could have shaken him so hard that he would let that immaculate guard of his down? Curiosity pecked stubbornly at Takasugi as he approached him, taking his seat at the edge of his bed where he was closest to Sanzo.

"Trouble?"

As 'fascinating' as dinner and its options were, Kristoph remained far too occupied with preparing for tonight's work. And by preparation, he lounged in bed and fingered an object in his hands. Ariadoney, his beautiful bottle of crystal and blue. It would be the key to tying the loose ends left by his careless little brother, and the man needed to know exactly how to use it to his advantage.

His plate of food stood neglected at his desk. If Hughes found himself particularly hungry this night, the attorney supposed a little sharing was acceptable. Too bad poisoning someone now wasn't an option as well; he could use a murder to fuel his ideas.

Though his questions might not have been answered, the time he'd spent in the courtyard with Senna had been...almost relaxing. Strangely enough. But the time came to an end, of course, and he was herded back to his room without a chance to do much more than wave good-bye.

His roommate wasn't back yet once he returned, and Hanatarou dropped heavily into his chair to contemplate the tray of food the nurse had left for him. His stomach reminded him of how little he'd eaten over the past two days, but at the same time he could almost feel dark hair tickling the back of his throat as he considered trying to eat.

He finally sighed and picked up his fork, taking a cautious bite of the asparagus and chewing as though he expected something to happen. If he was going to be healing people tonight, he needed what strength he could get, scary ghost curses or no scary ghost curses.

Sora wished there had been more time to talk with Haseo and Junior, but he assured himself that he could catch them at some other time. (So long as they didn't go disappearing on him again, but he wasn't going to think like that. Junior had stuck around after coming back, hadn't he?)

All things considered, his day could have gone worse. He'd gotten to catch up with a lot of people and Xigbar was apparently willing to leave him alone after what had happened last night. Sora hoped that the Nobody wasn't hurting too badly, even though he knew he'd had no other choice but to injure him.

Speaking of which, he was pretty injured himself, and he found himself feeling guilty as he made his way back to his room knowing that Hanatarou would be waiting for him. The boy had just healed him only for Sora to go out and get hurt all over again. It wasn't like he'd meant to, but he still felt bad. Maybe he could hide it, seeing how none of his wounds were visible.

He carefully entered the room and waved to Hanatarou before taking his seat as usual, doing his best to mask his soreness. "Good evening!" he greeted. "I hope your day went okay."

Kaoru had had a pretty miserable day. The Nurse's new meal time activity (of getting him to actually EAT) was bad enough, but having his brother announce it to the world was a real kick it the face. And then that stupid turtle getting involved. If everyone just shut up about it, there wouldn't be a problem.

Seeing as he'd eaten more today than he had in a while, Kaoru decided to stay in for the night. He'd had his Dinner in a private room with the nurse watching and had already been a little sick. He figured it was mostly nerves but then, maybe his body was so used to not eating that it saw food as some sort of terrible invader.

So arriving late to his room, Kaoru went straight to bed and curled up under his covers. He'd considered crawling in with Wolf, but he felt so pathetic and feeble right now...

He did, however, peek over to his roommate. He hadn't seen him all day but at least knew the guy had survived the night.

Wolfram hadn't moved in the slightest since the time he'd gotten back to the room this morning, only when the nurses had came to check on him a few times. He didn't know what it was; the last thing he remembered was Aidou scaring him half to death before the weird stomach-lurching time change had left him here... and he'd felt sicker than ever this time. The whole day had gone by in a blur, and he only barely noticed being brought dinner.

At some point, he managed to work up the energy to sit up, blinking in the direction of Kaoru's bed as he tried to fight off the dizziness that made his head spin.

"...Kaoru?"

Though he'd done his best not to show it, Rokuta had been more than a little stunned by Ren's answer to his last question. Twenty days? He'd been here twenty days and there were others who had been trapped in this place for even longer than that?

He'd read over messages on the bulletin board and been even less encouraged by what he'd found, as well. Hopefully Youko had managed to get something useful, because otherwise it looked like they'd been stuck here even longer than he'd thought, which...well, that wasn't good. At all, either for them or for the kingdoms they'd left behind.

When he was led back to "his" room Rokuta found that his roommate hadn't arrived yet, though he hoped that perhaps he might not have been assigned one. Having to share a room with a total stranger, especially one who might be unpleasant to spend time with, wasn't exactly improving the kirin's mood. And given that he'd been in a bad one to begin with, well.

He sat in the chair provided and frowned at the dinner they'd left for him (this time fortunately remembering not to give him any meat), arms folded across his chest as he considered his options for the evening. None of them were good, but he still had to get out of here. He didn't have weeks to spare.

Re: M57

[identity profile] deadlynoble.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The nurses weren't making this experience any less pleasant for him, shuffling him around gently and giving him needless words of encouragement. He could feel a migraine starting to form between his temples, something he ignored as he stepped into his room. That boy -Brainiac 5- had done nothing but aggravate his foul mood earlier with his pathetic sniveling. Just like Elizabeth- he almost swore, but he supposed an evening with Brainiac 5 would entail significantly less ostentation and ...ruffles.

His first thought upon casting eyes towards his new roommate was that they had forced him to live with a girl. Again. Whoever this Landel was, he was doing a good job of snapping his patience in such a small amount of time. Every new revelation proved to be more revolting than the next, and the fact that this much talked-about night shift was about to occur already had him on edge.

In spite of that, he had to keep calm and stick to his plan to tread carefully and explore as much of the institution as possible once the door opened. It may not have been an ideal situation, but there were many ways it could be worse. For instance, he could have been forced to room with Grell or this Luxord character he'd heard about. A girl was something he'd already dealt with and could ignore, provided she didn't start to ask him numerous questions, as well.

"And you are?" he finally asked as he stepped further towards his bed, still maintaining a respectable distance from the girl.

It was with mixed emotions that Endrance walked into his room that night. On the one hand... it was good, in a way, knowing that people who knew what he talked about when he said 'The World' were here now. On the other...he didn't want them to be in the place at all. That combined with what had been a mentally exhausting talk during the final shift left him feeling decidedly odd.

He sat down in thoughtful silence, poking the vegetable lasagna that was the alternate entree before actually nibbling at it a bit. At least I'll be seeing Haseo again soon...

Still no messages from Tamaki. It hurt, kind of, to think that his former roommate wouldn't notice his messages anymore, but then again, he couldn't rely on the bulletin as a reliable form of communication. He really wished, however, that the guy had at least said something to him. As it stood, it felt like he was being forgotten, and it sparked all sorts of feelings that Ritsuka really didn't want to deal with.

Having slept the last shift in the Sun Room, Ritsuka followed his nurse into his room and took a seat at his desk. He was tired, but tonight he had to be alert and he rubbed his eyes as the nurse set his food down in front of him. So far as he knew, he had a total of four people going upstairs tonight. Hopefully it was a good number, one that wouldn't present obstacles to other groups, or to each other. Picking through his food, Ritsuka ignored the asparagus in favor of the mashed potatoes and salmon and started eating.

At the conclusion of lunch, Nigredo had requested to forgo the remainder of the day's activities. His usual caretaker agreed--the boy looked far too worn out to properly enjoy another hour in the sun--and escorted back to his room. There, he slept soundly, without dreaming. He did not even stir at the intercom's chime or the staff's arrangements for dinner.

Eventually, however, his biological clock caught on, and he opened his eyes. High noon and after were always a pleasure to pass upon in sleep, but night was another matter. He never could rest well after a certain hour; in many ways, it made Nigredo most active of his siblings during evening hours. The trait made his living arrangements rather pesky back home, but here, he could stay up all night without fear of repercussion.

He crawled over toward the end of his bed and grab at the tray of food. With feet swinging, the U.R.T.V. ate silently, his mind considering the activities for tonight. Unlike yesterday, Nigredo had more fodder to go on. If nothing urgent fell across his way, perhaps he can complete the trip to the patient possessions room. Find out exactly what kind of items they had there.

Surprisingly enough, Sync had kept to himself after that entertaining encounter during breakfast. While he'd been planning to corner Leon and use the shifts to his advantage, the God-General hadn't been able to find the latter ever since. It looked as if he'd have to gamble it the next day and hope that Claude hadn't gotten to him first. After all, he couldn't let someone else just spoil his fun so easily like that.

While the prospect of going back to his room was rather tempting, Sync decided to just move through the shifts like normal. He took his shower, ate lunch and spent fourth shift resting in some corner, and so by the time he was escorted back he was feeling quite refreshed. Sync maneuvered over to his bed once they made it back, patiently waiting for the nurse to fix his food before resting it on his lap.

Sync only began to eat after the woman left, but instead of greeting his roommate he was rather content with the silence between them for the moment.

"You have a new roommate, Will!"

The nurse seemed rather cheerful (despite Mori missing his shower because he fell asleep in the Sun Room), but that cheer didn't translate over to the teen at her side. A new roommate meant that Reid was gone and if he was gone, Mori worried about what happened to him. The nurse smiled at him, but Mori, for once, didn't return the gesture. Instead, he took the tray from her in his right hand, accepted the medicine she put on it and then entered his room, sitting at his desk. The door closed quietly behind him and he sighed.

A quick scan of the room told him and Reid was gone. The boy's scent had also been removed from the room, almost completely, replaced with the smell of cleaning supplies and new sheets. Mori wrinkled his nose and then turned to his meal. Tonight, he had Cake Club duties, but before that Yuffie had to come get the giant shuriken in his closet. Taking a bite of the salmon as he thought of what he had to do, he was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually pretty good. The cake was set to the side to be saved for Mitsukuni though. He'd be happy to see that.

Yousuke shouldn't have been surprised by the announcement that he'd have a roommate. There had been two beds in the room before, after all. Still, he couldn't help but feel like it was one more thing to add on to that day's list of fail. He wasn't in a good mood at all when he was shown into the room, and he barely managed a greeting to the unfamiliar boy already there. "Hey. Guess you're stuck with me."

Adachi was going to be a serious problem. But if he told anyone... The bastard couldn't really follow through with his threat, could he?

Dinner was apparently fish. It wasn't prepared in any way he was used to, but he had a sneaking suspicion that the Institute wasn't located in Japan, despite the fact that everyone seemed to speak the language. Usually, he might have wolfed down the dessert first, but for now he set it aside, picking idly at the main course with a frown.

Hitsugaya laid back on his bed as he considered his situation - stuck in a prison without most of his Shinigami powers. His fist pounded into the soft bedding. Damn, he didn't even know what Arts and Crafts had planned for tonight. That was just plain sloppy of him. He was a Captain for goodness sake. Usually, he'd be more organized than this, but after he heard about Hinamori, his mind had been dominated by gloomy thoughts.

The radio gave him an idea. Tomorrow, he'd find out if there was any alternate ways of communicating. Getting some communication devices should be next on the agenda if it wasn't already. Perhaps the Cooking Club might be able to help with that. They would certainly be useful in coordinating the club's efforts.

Sitting up, he examined his food. Tonight's dinner looked like a western meal. Hitsugaya didn't really have much of an appetite, but in order to keep what little reiatsu he had up, he'd force himself to eat.

Chopper had been glad to see Luffy and Brook that morning, though he'd been disappointed that he hadn't managed to spot any more of his fellow pirates during the day. He'd been wanting to talk to Sanji again, or Usopp, or Zoro...

When the cat lady led him back to the room for dinner, he was surprised to see he had a new roommate. She left the two with some encouraging words about becoming friends, but Chopper was nervous. He hadn't really talked to his other roommates... The first one hadn't been there long, and he'd been sleeping through dinner while the second one had been there.

"U-um..." Chopper said, edging towards his desk and the meal waiting on it. "Hello..."

Walking into F19, Sakura glanced around her new bedroom, slowly taking in her new surroundings. For her, it felt as if the day had hardly begun. Whether it was because of her excess sleep or just pure adrenaline remained unclear, but the card mistress had more energy than most would expect for a first-timer.

She set her tray down on her table before looking around the room. After a few minutes, she easily found a flashlight, a notebook, keys, and pens. "It's almost as if they want us to go out..." she thought to herself. "But what is it that they want us to do?"

All these questions and more would probably be figured out over time, so Sakura decided to stop fidgeting and prepare by actually eating her dinner. Besides, the salmon smelled really nice.

Her room. Finally. Once she was told the number, Franziska excused herself from her conversation with Kibitoshin and headed off for the sanctuary of her own space. The nurse apparently didn't like being the second party, though, because she quickly caught up with the prosecutor and tried to guide her. Useless woman; she already knew where to go. Did the staff not notice the number of maps floating about on the board? Ignoramuses. All of them.

Reaching her room, Franziska waved a hand and dismissed the staff, stepping in to see a tray of food that looked much more acceptable than the previous meal and... A second bed. There was no way they were expecting her to live with someone else in such cramped spaces! Huffing, she turned to order the nurse to remove the other bed, but found the door closed already and heard the sounds of retreating footsteps. "Worthless."

Sitting at her desk, Franziska quickly opened her notebook and reviewed what she had learned that day. Then she set the journal down on the table and allowed herself a moment. She was trapped, like a rat, in a place she didn't understand, away from the courts of law and the safety net she'd built from the first day she entered the prosecutor's office - and the only people she had to rely on with any certainty were Miles Edgeworth and that blasted Phoenix Wright. Rubbing her temples, she fought off a headache and a familiar feeling of loss, burying it so far down that she might not even know it was there. She had to be strong, perfect, finish this place off with a decisive and quick slam of the book - she couldn't let such stupid things like her fear and worry crowd in.

There. Done.

Picking up her fork, Franziska started eating, hoping that the mystery roommate would either not show up, or decide to move rooms.

Naomi was on edge, nervous, and just generally unhappy as she was led back to her room. Not that she minded going back - quite the opposite. At least there was only one person back there. And unless fate was really cruel, it wouldn't be anyone that wanted (or could) mess with her head.

She couldn't help but feel threatened at this point. And she hated the fact that her room had been moved. Chances were she wouldn't have Arlene to come back to anymore. That was usually the highlight of her day. She liked Arlene. They got along well, the other woman usually cheered Naomi up, and she mostly trusted her to watch her back.

And after the day she'd had, Naomi needed that nice, relaxing dinner time.

God knew who she'd end up with now.

The former FBI agent entered her room with a touch of trepidation. She didn't recognize the woman already there, but she guessed that didn't mean anything. She nodded stiffly in greeting, wondering how they'd get along.

Hopefully not too badly....

Tim took his last look at the bulletin board before the nurse came to lead him back to his room. He refused to talk with her at all this time. She wasn't going to tell him anything interesting, and her overly chipper attitude annoyed him.

His appetite wasn't doing so hot after talking to Bruce. Not his Bruce, but still so undeniably Bruce. The world's sense of irony was not lost on him - but it was somewhat unappreciated. Okay, more than somewhat.

The walk back to the room was uneventful. Other people were shuffling back to their rooms as well, and for now, he didn't pay much attention to them. He was focused on (anything but Batman) his last exchange on the bulletin board.

Kon.

Younger, more full of himself, and apparently still calling Bart "Impulse."

But he had to be Kon. If Bruce-from-another-universe could exist here, why not Kon? And did it really matter so much that they were from apparently different times? He weighed it, and decided that maybe he didn't care that much. He'd almost accepted help from Ra's al Ghul, just so he could have Kon back. So why complain too much now, even if it didn't make sense? He'd lost everyone but Dick over the past two years. Just for this chance, he could handle crazy stories about monsters and Bruce-that-wasn't-his-Bruce and whatever else he had to.

He hardly noticed the food, and wasn't keen on eating it at all. Instead, he sat on his bed, thinking. He knew he had to go give the radio to Jaime, but...what about after that?

He hadn't decided yet. At least he had a little more time.

The last shift had been another round of him sulking in the Sun Room and glaring at the bulletin board. So it seemed like Kaoru and Hikaru hadn't been making things up just to mess with him. The whole 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' thing was apparently true.

He didn't like that idea. It was hard to see what there was to like about getting told your life had either influenced a cartoon or might even be a cartoon to some people. It was something Mikey would have loved, but Raphael could only think of all the bad things and if some sick bastard had thought they were funny at the time.

He was in even less of a good mood when his nurse led him back to his room and there was someone else in it already.

"Roy, this is your roommate, Timothy. He's new as well, so maybe you two can try getting to know each other! It always helps to make friends."

Raphael almost protested that wasn't his real name, but then he remembered what Sai had told him this morning and clammed up. He did decide the nurse was way too perky though. It was grating enough he half thought she was doing it on purpose.

After setting down a tray with his dinner, she left the two of them alone presumably to talk. Raph grabbed his tray and sat down heavily on his bed, wasting no time in starting to work on his dinner while he fixed the other kid with a measuring look.

"So, what're you in for?" he asked around messy bites of fish.

They were in the bedroom section before Mele registered that the prisoners would now be taken to their rooms. It was a moment before Mele identified the sick feeling in her gut and remembered why she didn't want to go there.

Mele sighed through her teeth, raising a hand to her forehead and mussing up her bangs. Getting beaten up wasn't the only thing that had happened last night. Soma. Mele could never think of Rio as a weakness, but her outburst of emotions to Soma last night was something she'd rather not think about. She'd rather it not have happened.

There was no help for it. She couldn't kill Soma; she didn't want to. Her roommate hadn't expressed anything...threatening, so that was okay.

She just really, really hoped Soma wouldn't bring it up. 'Embarassment' wouldn't even begin to cover it.

Soma hadn't arrived yet when Mele was wheeled into the room, and Mele sighed in relief. It wouldn't last long, though.. Mele wheeled herself to the desk and tapped idly on its surface, jittery, wondering what she could use to deflect a mind-reader.

The late afternoon had passed without much incident for Soma, and she'd met some new people to boot. Both Donna Noble and Reinforce seemed as if they could be potentially interesting sources of information; if nothing else, Donna at least could provide her with more details on twenty-first century life.

Pushing her still-damp hair behind her ears, Soma entered her room. Her nurse smiled sickeningly at her with a final, "Good night, Maria," and shut the door after her.

"It's Soma Peries," she said flatly to the closed door. It was a futile effort, she knew, but she felt slightly better for having said it.

She turned back to the room, faint concern appearing on her face as she noted the state of her roommate. Mele definitely hadn't been in a wheelchair last night; something must have happened during Nightshift.

"Hello, Mele," she said without further preamble. "What did you run into last night?"

Adachi almost wanted to know why his bitch of a nurse had dragged him out of the room in the first place if she was just going to take him back after his stint outside, but he went along without much of a fuss, wondering what to do about Hanamura. A stop at the bulletin made him realize just how many others from Inaba were here, and how many of them were Hanamura's little friends. He wasn't sure if they knew or not, given how Shirogane had gone ahead and invited him to their little meeting.

It made things all the more interesting to find out that Shirogane was a girl. A kid and a girl had been called in to do the police force's work for them...it was really damn insulting, even though the detective knew how good she was at her job. Maybe he should go to that meeting, just to keep an eye on Hanamura and make sure he didn't go around spouting things he shouldn't. If he really needed to, he knew how to get the boy's attention.

There was no one around when he entered the room, although the nurse left him with a comment that he did have to share it with someone. For the moment, Adachi went over to start in on his dinner, keeping an eye on the door. It'd be just his luck if this roommate ended up being Hanamura or Tatsumi.

Gin had rather enjoyed not having a roommate. So when the nurse led him back into the room and another man was sitting on the bed opposite his, it was something of a surprise. Despite that, he still gave the man a smile and a wave as he sat on his side of the room, trying to decide if dinner looked appetizing or not.

Had the man been snooping around? Many of the things Gin had hidden weren't terribly well put away. He supposed he'd have to remedy that.

"Saa, ain't had another person 'round here for a while. What's y'name stranger?" Gin asked, sitting in front of his own dinner tray.

Tokito, apparently, was gone. Jamie wasn't sure what to make of this - it felt presumptuous to think of them as being friends, but he'd been someone to trust, at the very least. The sudden disappearance worried him; had Tokito managed to escape? Had he been sent home? Or had some less charitable fate befallen him? Jamie tried to hope for the best as he poked at his dinner. His nurse had informed him that he'd have a new roommate from now on and was sure that the two of them would get along; Jamie was going to suspend his judgment until he actually met the person.

Dinner. Dinner meant a little bit of time with the Grumpy Bear and then the night, when he could finally let his hair down a little. Grumpy Bear had a shiny new arm (an upgrade from not having one earlier), but he was probably still the same gruff Kurogane regardless. Still, the night would make up for that since Wally apparently wanted to see him - and Sebastian was here somewhere. Sebastian and probably that snotty brat master of his. Grell could hope that Ciel Phantomhive was noticeably absent from his butler's side, but he doubted that would be the case.

As it stood, Grell had an interesting problem in case he did. If Ciel were to blow his cover, he'd have to come clean and unlike London, he couldn't just disappear into the night. Bloody brat would probably show up soon just to throw a kink into all of his plans.

Sighing loudly, Grell ducked his head when his nurse looked back at him quizzically. She shrugged and then let him into his quarters, where a meal and an empty room greeted him. Kurogane still hadn't arrived yet. Fair enough. Once the door was closed, Grell went to his closet and pulled out the box of scalpels, counting them over. Not too many left unless he started using them a bit more carefully. He still had a few tucked away in his clothes, but he didn't like the idea of running low on supplies. Closing the door to his closet, the death god went to his desk and sat down, wondering just what it was that Wally wanted and whether or not he'd have to stab the other redhead tonight.

He'd used the arm. Only now, after the mess of the showers was over, did Kurogane realize that he had been using both arms to go after the magician. Mostly he had just forgotten to not use it, but his response had been too quick to consider such things.

The ninja returned to his room under scoldings from his woman in white - both about the showers and about not picking at the newly wrapped bandages on his shoulder - and kept his focus on his shoulder as he took a seat on his bed. He may as well not have had a roommate for all the attention he was giving the man.

It bothered him that he had so readily used his arm. He had been careful over the past days, but then there had been a constant reminder of pain in his shoulder. In the shower there hadn't been any to alert him. The stitches he had still seen, so he knew he was not healed, but the lack of pain... did that mean what he thought? That that bastard doctor had been right about the arm not hurting once it attached properly?

Kurogane wanted to punch the wall out. Eventually, he did as best he could to try but only ended up making a small crack in the wall near his bed. His fist felt the usual soreness, but again there was no other pain. He could punch wall with the arm now and not feel anything more than normal. That made things even less normal!

Kaworu had been polite with the nurse when she came to gather him, but soon propriety gave way to curiosity. His assortment of questions about her life were mostly met with shy laughter and vague answers that left him unsatisfied. When he didn't let up, she had gently informed him that he was here to work out his own problems, not hers. Any promises that Kaworu did not have any problems fell on deaf ears.

And so he was left alone for the time being, sitting in a room for two. When he had asked the woman about her wedding ring, she had instead sighed and told him he would be meeting his roommate tonight. He was actually looking forward to the prospect, and decided to stay long enough to find out who it was. Eventually, however, he would have to return to Tokyo-3. He told himself it was because he had to fulfill his destiny, be it to live or to die. But at the same time, his mind was playing through memories of a door sliding open, revealing Shinji looked he sat there, pretending not to be waiting for Kaworu.

Absently, Kaworu began to pick at his meal, becoming distracted by the veins in his salmon to the point where it took precedence over eating.

Junior hadn't been entirely ready to go when the nurse came, but that was pretty much how it happened all the time, so he'd just have to get used to it. Looked like he needed to try to find Sora again tomorrow to explain the situation a bit more. It made him feel really guilty for keeping his friend in the dark, even though it had been unintentional. If his brothers hadn't shown up like this, then it wouldn't have mattered.

He didn't really want to blame everything on them, either. Landel was responsible for it, so Landel was who he should probably blame. Landel and their damn father.

The redhead had a new roommate tonight, again, with his nurse saying again that the Commander had been released and she hoped he got along well with 'Addison'. The boy seemed kind of odd, since he was just staring at his food, but he could deal with that. "Hi there," he greeted, giving the boy a nod as he headed over to his desk. "Did you find some sort of secret tunnel out of here in the food?"

He'd finally met him face to face and had seen what he was like. All in all, there hadn't been a great deal in common with the Hijikata Okita knew, but there also hadn't been a great deal of difference, either. Realizing that, it hurt a little when Hijikata Toshirou had become cold, but there was nothing Okita could do about that. The man was not of his world and so there wasn't anything binding them - or so he told himself.

His hair was still wet when he entered the room, even though the nurse had been polite enough to help him towel dry it to keep the chill off. With his bandages replaced and his sling back on, his shoulder felt much better, but he also had the luxury of more medication. Okita wasn't certain if he wanted to take it, but since he hadn't felt any ill effects from the dose earlier in the day, he supposed it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Okita was the first to the enter the room tonight as well and he went to his seat, rolling the pills under his dish like he had in the afternoon. There was no sense in leaving them out for someone to look at, after all. He knew that Guy would be coming by soon, so he started on his food quickly. Tonight, thankfully, was something he could eat and so he did, with a little more vigor than usual. He'd been getting hungry lately and if Ayumu was coming, he wanted to be able to tell her he'd eaten tonight and not have it be a lie.

Guy was pretty disoriented after meeting up with Van, and so he was quiet during the trip back from the showers. His hair was also still a little wet, but it didn't matter too much since it was short. He ran a hand through it, enjoying the cold feeling on the back of his neck from the lingering dampness.

He didn't want to think too hard about Van right now. He was going to have to get to it at some point, but right now he'd rather enjoy his limited time with his roommate and get prepared to deal with whatever challenges the night might hold. Plus, he needed to ask Okita about the status of his sword.

However, all of that was forgotten when he stepped into his room and saw that Okita's arm was in a sling. This felt like a bad joke - hadn't Guy been in the same position just a week or so ago? Now Okita was the one who was suffering.

"Geez," Guy blurted out without really meaning to, "what the hell happened?" He moved over to his desk automatically, even though he wanted to get a closer look at his roommate to make sure he was all right. He didn't think that Okita would want to be mothered, though, so he wasn't going to be overbearing about it.

Ed had to fight to keep himself from snarking at the nurse who took him back to his room. She was blathering about the most inconsequential crap, like it actually mattered to him. Like it would actually have mattered even if this place had been for real. He just rolled his eyes, moithing along with the familiar words; admonishments to be nice, be a good boy, make friends with his roommate and eat his dinner. He was going to do that anyway.

Suzaku wasn't there when he arrived which was fine with him. He grabbed the tray and went to sit on the bed, starting in on it ravenously. Tonight he'd get something done, he promised himself, even if it was just transmuting that alcohol.

Re: M28

[identity profile] superdynamic.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that had been kind of a useless day. Most of Suzaku's time had been taken up dealing with the fallout from the night before, navigating around both the Winchesters and Lelouch. He really hoped that Sam knew what was good for him, and that they could both leave each other alone. No matter how many times he was burned, Suzaku wanted to believe the best of people. That they didn't usually lie, that they would work with others when they could. It was circumstances that forced them apart, circumstances and idiocy and a chain of anger and backlash that was easier to break once you were aware of it. Not that it would ever be perfectly easy, Suzaku knew that well enough.

Edward was already in the room when Suzaku got there, wolfing down the food as usual. Said food actually looked pretty good for once, so Suzaku sat down at his desk and immediately started in on the fish. "Hi," he said politely between mouthfuls. "How was your day?"

"Now Tyler, I'm not leaving until you at take three bites of salmon. Is that clear?"

Slowly, Peter glanced down at the laden dish being brandished in front of his nose, then back up again. "What?"

"Don't think I haven't been watching you, young man. You've barely touched your food since you arrived," she scolded. The tray hit his desk with a muffled thump, and he was grasped by the shoulders and guided into his seat, fork and knife pressed into his palms. "Now, dear, I know you've been upset because of what happened to Michael, but that is no reason to start neglecting yourself."

"It's not - I'm not hungry."

"Tyler..."

"Look, I haven't been feeling well -"

A firm hand pressed to his forehead. "You don't feel like you're running a fever. And fish is good for you, sick or not. Now go ahead, take a bite."

Peter scowled, fumbling with the utensils before stabbing the soft meat, cleaving it in two. Of course he was hungry. He was coasting on half a bowl of spaghetti from last night, and even that was roiling at the scent of freshly cooked fish was blanketing the room. Despite what his ever so sweet nurse believed, Brainy wasn't the only problem on his mind. It was Harry. And Clark. But most of all, it was his own damn storybook life that was making him sick.

It didn't matter if he ate or not. As long as he was entertaining, he'd live. There would always be some loophole or some dramatic plot twist to save him, just so long as the writers kept cashing in the dough. The fork was bending in his angry grip, coming close to snapping between his fingers as he brought the first piece to his lips. He shuddered, chewed three times, and swallowed thickly.

"See? That wasn't so bad! Just two more, Tyler."

It didn't get any easier. The fish warred with the heavy weight crushing his stomach, and Peter had to pause between bites to keep it from jumping right back up again. She praised him, giving his hair a ruffle and strolling away, ordering him to leave her nothing but a clean plate tomorrow morning.

The cutlery was gone the moment the door clicked shut, and Peter was curled up in the corner of his bed, burying his head in his knees.

The door opened not long afterwards and Brainiac 5's nurse carefully manoeuvred him into the room and over to his desk. Glancing over at where Peter was curled up, she made a faint tutting noise as she retrieved a dinner tray and set it down in front of Brainiac 5.

"Tyler, you need to eat! Honestly, between you and Michael here-" she broke off and fixed Brainiac 5 with a pointed look. "Don't think we haven't noticed you weren't eating today either. Now I understand that you're not feeling well, Michael, and that you're missing Kal. But I promise he's perfectly fine! You should be happy that he was able to go back home."

Brainiac 5 sighed and managed something that could be construed as a noise of affirmation, which seemed to satisfy his nurse at least. However she didn't seem intent on leaving until he picked up his fork and took a bite of the fish.

"There you go! Maybe you can convince Tyler to eat something as well," the nurse said loudly and, with another look over at Peter, finally vacated the room, leaving them both alone.

For a moment he almost wished she'd remained. Now that they were alone, Brainiac 5 knew it would no doubt be a matter of time before Peter confronted him about Clark. And for reasons he couldn't quite rationalise, that scared him more than his breakdown in front of Luxord had. His eyes flicked up to check that the other boy was still curled up on his bed, then returned to his meal. He didn't feel hungry, though he knew his body no doubt needed the energy. If anything he just felt... empty.

Empty and tired. He pushed the tray away and considered making some notes in his journal, or if it might be better to just try and sleep.

Without meaning to, his gaze returned to Peter again. Why was he sitting like that? He hadn't known Clark, so he had no reason to be upset over his dea- him being gone.

Concern won out over avoiding the other boy's questions. "Peter? What happened?"

For all the stink the nurses made about seating patients together, they sure broke them up quickly. Before Sylar had known it, lunch had been over and he'd been ushered into the showers – not the best place to forge connections, if everyone's obvious discomfort was anything to judge by, so he'd mainly kept to himself while he'd scrubbed himself down. He felt a little more energized afterwards, a little less worn-down and a little more shaved, and by the time he was taken back to his room, he, for once, felt ready for nightshift.

The question was if his roommate would interrupt any of his plans. Thus far, he hadn't seen much of him due to his frustrating "health" issues, but... hopefully, tonight would be the turning point.

Crawford had his own plans, but this was the first night in which they didn't involve leaving the room. There just wasn't enough time during the day to sit down and make good use of the journal and the pens in his desk the way he wanted to--that being with charts.

He tore a page out of his journal and dug a pen out of the drawer and shot a surreptitious glance at his roommate all in silence. Since the second he'd gotten to the institute he hadn't wanted to talk to anyone he didn't absolutely have to, but that had changed this morning. Whether an abrupt conversation would come off as awkward to his roommate, he didn't know.

"Can I ask what you think about the clubs?" he said suddenly, as he scribbled lists down the paper.

Wally wasn't sure what to make of today. Clark was dead, Grell might have had something to do with it, and Bats seemed to be doing his best to shut himself off from others. And that was just this morning. At least the rest of his day hadn't been as bad as breakfast. He'd had some time to deal a bit with Clark being gone, to come to terms with that it had happened and he didn't like it but that all he could do now was try and move on.

After worrying a bit, he'd eventually decided to try and find out more about Grell. Bats had said that the other redhead had been threatening a kid, which didn't seem like something he would do, but if Batman thought it was true, then he had to have good reason. His plan had been to just try asking Grell about what had happened the night before, but he was beginning to realise that might not be the best idea. If Bats was right and Grell had hurt, murdered, Clark, then the other man had to be either packing some kryptonite or something else that would let him beat a teenage Superman.

He hoped it was just kryptonite, or, better yet, that Grell hadn't been involved at all.

There was no use worrying about it all now though. Settling down on his bed, Wally started picking over his dinner with only a vague interest despite his constant hunger.

One of the most bizarre days of Faize's life was finally nearing its end. The people he had met all seemed friendly, and quite serious about their belief that the institution had a decidedly sinister side to it. Faize couldn't completely trust what he had heard yet, but night was approaching. It wouldn't be long before he could verify with certainty the validity of the claims.

In the meantime, he supposed he would just try to enjoy his dinner.

When he returned to his room, Faize found a tray topped with hot food sitting on his desk. He assured his nurse that he had everything he needed, and was soon left alone with the meal. Before starting on it, however, there was one thing he remembered being told.

Under his pillow... It took no more than a second to find what TK-622 had been referring to. A glowrod, he called it. The flashlight was quite bulky, but its excessive weight was most likely the reason it had been considered a feasible weapon. It was an odd place to leave such a thing, however. Sitting on the edge of his bed, Faize turned the device on just to test it, then turned it off again and set it down. However primitive it was, it certainly worked well enough.

Upon being led to his new room, Valyn was glad he had a way to let Keman know where he was. Otherwise he imagined the two of them would spend most of the night just trying to find one another.

The young elven lord did make a note of his room number - there were people who would want that - before bidding his nurse goodnight and heading inside. There was someone else there, someone Valyn didn't recognize. Well, new room, new roommate.

At least they had roommates. Ever since he'd been sixteen he'd gotten used to not sleeping in an empty room. With brought another twinge of sadness, but he pushed it away.

"Good evening," he said, nodding cordially to the man sitting beside the light stick.
