Nightshift 39: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[From here]

Yukari peered up and down the hallway, deciding against shining her flashlight this way and that; she didn't particularly want to attract any monstrous attention. Mentally going over the maps, she tried to remember where she was going. Ritsuka had said M35, right? So that was the next block over... she'd have to go through the West Hall, but hopefully could get through without getting attacked her first night.

M35... why did that ring a bell?

Giving a shrug, the youkai headed on her way.

With every passing step, Yukari became a little more anxious; she didn't have a reason to be, she kept telling herself, not when she was as prepared as this.

Time to take the same route she had been finding herself going through for the past few nights.

And now they were by the F-Cell block. If they go just a bit further...

"Lets move quickly. The main hallways should be just ahead, and there should be a set of stairs as well." Despite being the one with the least amount of familiarity with the area, it was still easy to fall back into using his commanding tone of voice as though this was a military expedition and not simply a group of patients wandering through the halls with pipes and scalpels.

[identity profile] wantsyourzex.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, if you would, thank you..." ZEX shifted the pipe from his shoulder, and held it out to Teisel. "It's difficult to coordinate all these objects and all these fingers at the same time..." That and ZEX really wasn't sure he could wield the thing effectively. Stabbing something was one thing, but swinging something like the pipe with these rigid arms just seemed... risky, almost.

As for the doors... "Yes, that's what I'm hoping. If the stairs for the third floor are behind them, then that brings me one step closer to returning to my normal body." ZEX sighed at the thought. He had no idea how much he'd miss it until he'd been trapped like this. It was difficult when even things that should have been easy for him required specific conscious effort in a human body... even his eyes still refused to work properly, although the headaches had stopped since he'd kept one eye closed almost all the time.

ZEX wasn't sure he cared for Van's tone. Of course there should be a set of stairs up ahead, ZEX had been here for over two weeks now. ZEX reminded himself that Van was a human, a species well known for their ill-thought-out and occasionally offensive comments, and he was new here. Perhaps this was how he dealt with stress. Nevertheless, ZEX would rise above it, as he always did when discourse turned rude or unpleasant. It took a lot more than that to try ZEX's patience... otherwise he'd probably be dead, rather than exiled, and his human Captain would probably be dead as well by his laser.

That was what made him different than other VUX, after all. ZEX said nothing, and kept walking.

Not that he would tell Blitzwing he was right. The insufferable insane one would probably gloat. Who did he think he was, threatening Lugnut with abandonment over something so petty?

Working himself up into a proper disgusted rage, Lugnut clomped angrily along, paying no heed to the possibility of monsters.

Dairine kept walking, sweeping her flashlight along the hall occasionally. Nothing so far. She hoped she wouldn't be too late for her meeting, even if there was something about Astor that was a little bit weird. She liked challenges.

Quietly as usual, GLaDOS made her way out into the hall and looked around, noting the people and the busyness of the hallway drolly before heading south into the hall.

On the off-chance that Harlay character HAD been eaten by evil parasites, Spider put a whole hallway between him and her before slowing down. Oh. That's what breathing felt like. Oh. That hurt.

Decades of cigarette ash in rivulets of mucus rattled inside his chest, forcing moist, painful coughs. They could cure cancer but not lung butter? What the hell kind of future did he live in, anyway? Slowing to a walk, so as to have enough breath to yell at anything that he might happen to spot, Spider moved forward into the larger hallway.

He searched up and down the hallway for familiar faces and shapes, then leaned against the wall. His sword felt so very re-assuring in his hand. He had a sword! Armand knew he'd have to be careful to keep from feeling over-confident about it. Where were his friends? Too much time had gone by for them not to have arrived, or so he thought. Well, he'd wait a few minutes himself and then try to follow where he thought they'd gone.

Ah, there was Armand. And, like Javert, he'd acquired a weapon. "Why does everyone have swords?" Trevelyan lamented. How was he to get a gun around here? Preferably an AK-47, though a P90 would be good because of its magazine capacity. Hell, he'd take a BB gun. He knew how to do some serious damage with one.

When Alec, and his annoying question, appeared out of the gloom Armand had to smile. Of course, he also had to answer the question. Sort of.

"I don't know about everyone else, but tis the sort of weapon I'm used to." It didn't take powder and ammunition either. Guns were effective but messy, in his opinion. He had never seen a modern gun in use, really.

"I am glad to see you. I hadn't thought I was so quick."

"I'm not complaining," he said, "but I wasn't exactly trained in the use of swords." Of course you picked up whatever you had to use in a fight, but there had never been any need for swordfighting. He'd done a little fencing, but - as much as he hated to admit it - James was superior in that regard. Of course he would be, the Etonian bastard. It was so British of him.

"I might have to get one of those."

If Tanaka hadn't known better, he'd suspect that he'd somehow doubled back into the hallway he'd left a few minutes ago - the corridors were nearly identical, down to the peeling paint and the two doors on the left. This one still had a few groups chatting in it, so the Shofixti maneuvered around them as quickly as he could manage (the human body was so slow compared to what he was used to) as he made his way up the hall.

Not long.

Okay... now where? Well, one of the sheds would still be good... the problem was, all Skuld knew for sure was that she'd seen one in a corner of one of the yards, and she didn't know how to get to all of them.

Maybe she could ask someone with a map? Or just join up with a group heading in that general direction?

Coming up beside the girl he'd spotted Kon called out cheerfully, "Hey there, what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

When he got close enough to see her properly he realised why he'd recognised her. She was that girl he'd met his first night here! The one with sisters (whom he'd never got to meet) and a tiny angel-girl and who'd said she was a goddess and had totally attacked him for no reason!

This time there was no gross pond water around for her to drench him in but he really didn't want to see if she'd come up with something else instead. But he was Superboy. He didn't run from girls unless he wanted them to chase him. And she was too young for that sort of thing.

All the same he kept some distance, not sure she wouldn't freak if he got too close.

Skuld half-turned, not sure he was talking to her, and had to try not to wince when she saw who it was. Superboy, was it? Well, so far nobody she'd run into that night hated her for it... but he'd kind of gotten the worst of it.

"Um... hi," she said awkwardly. Did he know she couldn't do any of what he'd been hit with right now? Or why she'd attacked him?

It hadn't been her fault, technically, but she still had to own up to what she'd done. So... this conversation was going to be really awkward, but she wasn't going to try to avoid it.

The humming continued from one hallway to the next despite the absence of patients or other things. Perhaps Brook wasn't as brave as he would have liked, but humming always did well to keep him from simply staying holed up in his room nightly. And he had an objective here just as he had with retrieving his shadow, only not quite as dire. Well, dire enough to pursue it, but still not as bad as having-lost-one's-shadow dire! Brook needed to do his part in order for him and the others to escape this place!

But maybe just walking was not such a good activity then?

The hallways were more worrisome, if she let worry show. Juri didn't linger, but she shown her light out far ahead of where she walked. Her goal was the front door again. She was getting out those gates tonight if it killed her.

Plenty of patients running through here too, although less so than in the main hallways. As they walked down the hallway, Sanae glanced down at his map again. "And now we're looking for a door."

He felt kind of stupid checking their route when Jiraiya knew the layout of the institute, but he reasoned that it was all training for later, presumably when he was able to fly solo.

The scalpels were an unexpected surprise, but still a welcome one, and Godot quickly tucked them away as best he could with the limited options in his uniform. He'd no doubt have to wear that coat in the future, if only for the extra pocket space it would provide--safely away from one of the traits that physically defined him as a man, no less. Still, Godot wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and he'd make sure to take special care of these ladies and their wicked claws.

When Mr. H stopped to check the route, Godot looked around the dark hall as best he could with his limited sight. But the flashlight in play provided just enough light for the prosecutor to make out the feature they were looking for. "Right here, amigo." He pointed it out, then headed towards the door, careful to check for any nasties that might be waiting as he went through.

Well, there were a few people here, so it wasn't like everyone had just disappeared... probably she'd just spent longer thinking to herself than she realized. She was getting way too old in some respects. She would have thought she would have gotten about as messed up as she was going to from being stuck in a child's body by now, but who really knew? Immortality was a funny thing, and she was kind of unique in her age on top of that.

Nothing she could do about that, though. Well, no, maybe with a grand spell...
