Nightshift 39: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[From here]

Yukari peered up and down the hallway, deciding against shining her flashlight this way and that; she didn't particularly want to attract any monstrous attention. Mentally going over the maps, she tried to remember where she was going. Ritsuka had said M35, right? So that was the next block over... she'd have to go through the West Hall, but hopefully could get through without getting attacked her first night.

M35... why did that ring a bell?

Giving a shrug, the youkai headed on her way.

When Alec, and his annoying question, appeared out of the gloom Armand had to smile. Of course, he also had to answer the question. Sort of.

"I don't know about everyone else, but tis the sort of weapon I'm used to." It didn't take powder and ammunition either. Guns were effective but messy, in his opinion. He had never seen a modern gun in use, really.

"I am glad to see you. I hadn't thought I was so quick."

[OOC: Just gonna chitter until the others arrive]

"I'm not complaining," he said, "but I wasn't exactly trained in the use of swords." Of course you picked up whatever you had to use in a fight, but there had never been any need for swordfighting. He'd done a little fencing, but - as much as he hated to admit it - James was superior in that regard. Of course he would be, the Etonian bastard. It was so British of him.

"I might have to get one of those."

"There is a lady on the bulletin board who offers to do them. Just leave her a note." Even with one of his friends safely in sight, Armand wasn't thrilled to have to wait for the others. Waiting made him exceedingly nervous. He feared the darkness here. "I hope we can make it to our goal this time."

"Thanks." Usually he didn't thank people for information with anything but a bullet to the head, but he didn't have a gun, and Armand was almost like a puppy, trusting him to be nice and good. He really wasn't too comfortable with that. "We should be able to," Trevelyan said. "Provided that nothing else gets in our way..." Those air-stealing whatever-they-weres had really shaken him. He wasn't keen on running into them again.

"Do you think we missed the others?" Armand asked. Then he frowned at himself. He was defensively asking too many questions himself to avoid having to answer them. And he knew Alec didn't like them either.

"We can wait a moment. Tis only fair." He looked up into Alec's face, trying to see in the gloom what the ex-spy thought of that, no matter what he said. Judging people was tricky. And he knew Alec was better than he pretended to be.

The ex-00 shrugged. "Morrison would wait for us, even if Uzuki left." Morrison was a soldier, and he knew soldiers, had known too many of the for-God-and-Country types. Morrison definitely fit the bill.

Alec looked impassively back at Armand and leaned against the wall. "Sure." But if he was here in this goddamn hallway all night, he was going to get pretty mad pretty quick.

"I left a note before dinner, told them they didn't have to wait. I didn't know how long it would take me to get the metal for the sword." He smiled down at the weapon. "I think... they might take that as permission to leave." He still hadn't known how long it was.

"So a little bit more..." Armand tried to sound decisive. He strongly suspected he failed at that.

Alec frowned. He hadn't seen that. "If that's the case, then maybe they have gone ahead." He hated being anything more than fashionably late. "We're headed to the same place as last night, right? Upstairs kitchens?"

If so, the others could catch up...or they could catch up to TK and Uzuki. Either way, it worked.

"Yes," Armand said. "The same place. We need to find some sort of weapon for... TK." He was still having trouble with that name. He liked the name Morrison. "Even if he is not with us. I don't think he'd be particularly comfortable with a sword."

Armand had to smile. "Like you, I think he would like some sort of firearm in his hands."

[identity profile] janus-006.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Alec glanced down the hall. No sign of either one yet.

"There's the upstairs kitchen, and there's also the equipment shed, which has sports paraphernalia that could be useful...bats, and the like." The ex-00 flicked his flashlight's beam down the other end of the corridor. "Could be useful, unless we want to pick up some paprika in the kitchen and throw it in the monsters' eyes." Hey now. There was an idea...improvised pepper spray! A girl's move, to be sure, but there sure as hell was no glory in death.

"I'll go wherever is reasonable. I know there are knives upstairs, but other than that I don't see a lot of advantage either way." He knew his friends would be safe without them, so it was hard for Armand to push to look for them. Danger tended to be attracted to him, not them.

"Shall we choose a course and go then?"

[identity profile] janus-006.livejournal.com 2009-03-19 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd recommend the equipment shed," Trevelyan said. "I went to the kitchen a while ago - not much interesting there aside from knives." Sure, he could get more, but the balance on steak knives was awful, no good for throwing at all.

And if he could find a baseball bat, maybe some pads there, that could be helpful.

"Then let's be off. You know the way to the hedge field, I assume." If not, then Alec would just have to keep up. Sword or not, Armand had no intention of lingering. He set off at a run that was likely a bit reckless, but he trusted his friend to keep up and perhaps shine light on the path. He wasn't super human, so his passage wasn't likely to raise eyebrows.
