Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

"Smart decision," Haku said, reaching up to trace a line along Artemis's cheek before shifting and this time tucking his head on his friend's shoulder.

"My wrath would not be pleasent."

Artemis thought for a moment that he was about to get something a bit further than just a kiss on the nose. But of course, Haku pulled away. And despite his best efforts, the boy couldn't help but make a small disappointed noise and mutter, 'Sadist' under his breath.

"Yes," he followed, trying to cover the muttered word. "I would think that seeing someone else would be hazardous to both my secret roommate's and my own health."

Haku laughed softly. "Indeed." He was still for a moment, then smiled against Artemis's neck.... and gently bit him.

"That was sadistic," he pointed out in a soft voice.

Haku's teeth on his neck didn't exactly register until they were closing around his skin. The boy's mind didn't work fast enough to comprehend what was going on, so he certainly couldn't stop what was coming out of his mouth.

"Ah...!" Artemis clapped a hand over his mouth to stop any other erotic noises that might follow that one. His face went completely red. He didn't just... he couldn't have... he had.

Haku chuckled and straightened up. "Sorry," he said, not sound sorry in the slightest.

Artemis glowered at Haku. He knew an apology when he heard one, and that most certainly wasn't an apology. That was a continuation of the little stunt Haku had just pulled on a very emotional~~, very pubescent~~ boy.

"You enjoy torturing me," Artemis accused. "Perhaps I will go find another roommate. Scads of them. I'll just move on to the next one when you inevitably torture, maim, or kill the current candidate," the boy said huffily. "I'll just put an ad up on the bulletin board tomorrow."

"Oh?" Haku tried not to smile. "And what would it say?" He pretended to write out a note on his hand. "Wanted: Person to share my room at times. Must be kind, gentle, not a sadist, and above all, able to take multiple death blows. Signed, Artemis Fowl the Second."

He glanced up at his friend, unable to keep his eyes from smiling, even if the rest of his expression looked hurt. "And here I thought you liked it."

"Something like that," Artemis said, trying and succeeding at keeping his grumpy expression. "Although I would most likely go to their room in order to have an illicit affair and come back smelling like their cologne. And wouldn't that just drive you to insanity?" The boy teased.

"Perhaps I liked it at one point," he said with an overly dramatic sigh. "But there comes a time when the teasing and sadism must come to something more blunt and boring. Really now, why didn't Zabuza-san tell you such things?" He said, smirking lightly.

Haku sighed and turned away, a hand going up to his lips as he turned his face away, the very picture of hurt.

"I-I'm sorry. I, well, then I suppose I'll just leave you be then."

Damn Haku and Artemis' inability to stay mad at him when he did things like this! The boy looked concerned for a moment, but his expression became sly again when he realized that this was part of the game they played.

"Well," Artemis looked like he was thinking. "Obviously now that you've consented to leave me alone, I shall have to work twice as hard to make you incredibly jealous and win you back."

Oh, he was learning.

Haku shook his head, swinging his legs off the bed as though he were going to go back to his own. "You men are always so fickle. I don't know why I bother. You say you are tired of me, and now you want to make me jealous?" He scoffed at that.

"You're catching on," Artemis said with a small chuckle. The boy moved forward suddenly and wrapped his arms around Haku's waist. "But I know exactly why you bother."

Haku leaned back slightly against the other boy's chest. "Oh? And why is that?"

"Because I can do this," Artemis said, resting his cheek against where Haku's neck met his shoulder. "Without you wanting to break my neck." The boy smiled against Haku's shoulder. "That's why."

Haku smiled and brought his hands up to rest over Artemis's own.

"That could just mean that I don't think of you as a threat," he pointed out softly.

"It could," Artemis admitted. "But I can also do this," the boy kissed Haku's jaw softly. "And I would hazard the accusation that you like it as much as I do."

Haku smiled wider and tilted his head. "True," he said. He did enjoy the contact. He'd gone for so long without, it was fast growing addictive.

"As long as we're on the same page here."

"I think so," Artemis said, nuzzling the space just under Haku's jaw affectionately. "Unless you're actually lying to me and are secretly planning on breaking my neck once I'm lost in the throes of ecstasy."

"Oh no. I respect you too much to kill you like that," he said. "I would let you know if I was planning that."

His eyes closed as Artemis nuzzled his throat.

Artemis laughed against his friend's throat. "And just how," he kissed it gently. "Would you go about killing me? I would think that breaking my neck would be quick and painless, and therefore a humane way to kill me."

Haku smiled. "While true, if I had to, I would kill you after putting you to sleep. And letting you know, of course."

"Dying with the knowledge that the last thing I would see would be your face..." Artemis shifted a little so he could hold Haku a little closer. "How kind of you. Perhaps dying that way wouldn't be so very bad," he mused.

"Except for the dying part," he pointed out, "I think it sounds like a better way than simply snapping your neck."

Artemis laughed. Haku really wasn't getting his attempts at being romantic, but he supposed that was alright. He just had to figure out which buttons would produce the desired reaction.

"A little less sudden, too," Artemis said, still chuckling a little. "Possibly a bit less painful, though I can't say I've had my neck snapped recently. So I wouldn't really know, would I?"

Haku smiled. "I hope that doesn't happen," he said softly, traling cool fingers along Artemis's forearms. "Sudden death is no fun."
