Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

Well, this day had been nominally bittersweet. Miku prodded her dinner with quiet contemplation, wondering what to do about Sousuke. The Doctor was cheerfully spewing bull pucky as usual, she'd beaten her roommate to the punch about dinner. And.

Miku looked over her shoulder at the empty bed - her nurse seemed to pride herself on getting Miku to her room first - and wondered if she could get some advice that wasn't caustic or grating from her roommate. Lust seemed to have understanding of the other men, but would she really help or just make Miku so mad she threw her dinner at her?

Miku sighed and pushed her vegetables around on her plate. It was probably going to be the latter, rather than the former. Even if the photographer didn't have a single temper-bone in her body. If Lust yelled back, then Miku would probably just cower.

And if she kept thinking like this, she wasn't going to be able to eat.

Tony ostentatiously replaced the recorder he'd borrowed from the Music Room in its box. The oh-so-nice nurse didn't even notice his stolen one in the back of his pants, because it has been there the entire time untouched. Even if it looked like his magic was gone, he still had been glad of the music.

As soon as she brought his dinner of steak and pie with apple juice, Tony arranged it all on his desk. He wanted to see what Kvothe had to say after his first real day at the Institute. When he didn't think about the bigger picture, he worried less about himself, about his new friends, and about Tia.

Despite the rather large meal he'd eaten at brunch, Leon was starving by the time he got to his room. The time he'd spent exercising on the Rec Field had helped clear his mind, though he was still worried about what would happen when night fell. As soon as the nurse had left, Leon checked the drawer of his desk, making sure that the tranquilizers were still there. Maybe that's where he'd go tonight, if nothing happened, see about finding more doses.

With a goal in mind, Leon turned to his meal. The one bright point about this place: great food. He kept an eye on the door as he ate, waiting for Yohji to come back. Hopefully the other man would be less upset by the time he got back. Leon wasn't terribly good at dealing with very emotional people.

Sheena's small nap in the courtyard after making up with Soubi had been nice, but she was still a little sleepy when the nurse took her back to her room. She had the drawings Soubi had given her folded in half, which she put in her desk drawer, and then she laid eyes on her dinner.

Her eyes got huge. "Oh, wow..."

The ninja only ever had steak when she was in Meltokio at Zelos' or he felt like treating her. Such food was only really affordable by the rich,so to see it here was something. She wasn't going to question that something. This ranch might be evil, but it has steak. Sheena sat down and delved into her meal with a grin. The meat was a little overdone for her tastes, but it was still steak and it still tasted very yummy.

She'd start on her spell cards once she was done savoring the expensive, ruch-man's meal.

She hadn't been expecting it, but talking to Light had somehow allowed Beatrix to accept that Skuld was indeed a goddess - certainly not a goddess from ex-assassin's world, but one from the young girl's own one. She wasn't going to actually tell Skuld that, but it did mean she had to talk to the Norn again, for reasons that had come up at chapel that morning with the warlord.

The steak was a nice change of pace and the Bride sat at her desk to eat it. She was waiting for Maki to return and eat as well before she brough the sword out to show the other woman. It made her wonder what her roommate would think about it.

Momo had been so very, very reluctant to leave Hitsugaya when the shift changed and the nurses came to collect them. She'd see him tomorrow, though, and she had a mission to complete. She had faith that Artemis would take care of Hitsugaya until the sedatives wore off. The nurses had confiscated the three markers she'd taken from the Arts & Crafts room, but that was fine. After drawing the fire bird on her cast, she didn't need them anymore.

The shinigami was rather pleased to see Anya was already asleep when she got back to the room. She was in too good of a mood to have it dashed by the oni's pessimistic and unorthodox views on things, so this was for the best. She quietly ate her meal, so as not to disturb her roommate, and then changed into her uniform. Once that was done, she went about the tedious task of cleaning the Noah's blood from her sword. Thankfully, she'd gotten that extra glass of water she'd asked for.

When Falis had to leave Hokuto and the Sun Room, she delayed long enough that her nurse started taking her back at the same time Yukari's nurse gathered her. This was going to take a bit of acting, pretending to be an enthusiastic teenager with the overly friendly and talkative vulture, but it'd be worth it. Sure, she'd have some explaining to do to Yukari the next day, but if it all worked out, that would be a acceptable consequence of her actions to deal with.

So, along the way to her room, the bounty hunter making sure she was close behind Yukari, she chatted about her day, the game she won, with her nurse. Since this was really the first time the princess had responded positively to the nurse, she was smiling and responding well. As they neared the hallway where her room was, Falis put her plan into action.

"Oh yeah! I also met this really awesome girl today."

"That's wonderful, Rose. Making connections and having fun are keys to recovery."

"Mmhmm! Her name's Yukari," Falis said as Yukari and her nurse slowed down at F29. Acting as if she'd just noticed the other girl there, Falis grinned huge and waved to Yukari enthusiastically, like they were the bestest friends in the world. "Oh hey, Yukari! I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" She gave the girl another grin, a tinge of her wildness showing through since Falis could only act so much, as she was ushered along down the hallway.

"I'm glad you made a friend, Rose," her vulture continued, patting Falis on the arm, "but you need to make sure you use her actual name, not just a nickname."

"...but she told me her name's Yukari."

"Sorry, dear, but her name is Kara. It'll do you both a lot of good to use those names."

"Oh... ok." Begin phase two. "Oh! Who's Kara's roommate? I didn't get a chance to ask her earlier and I think it'd be real neat for the three of us to hang out sometime. Maybe the next time we can go out and play in the field."

The nurse shook her head slightly. "I'm sorry, Rose, but Danielle was released this morning. Kara will be getting a new roommate as soon as we recieve new patients."

Outwardly, Falis pouted as if disappointed, but inwardly she was smirking. Success! Sure 'Danielle' was gone, but she'd gotten part of the name and knew where to get the other part that night. "Oh... that's a good thing, right?"

"Of course it is, dear. Danielle got better. Take her story to heart and soon you'll be able to go back home. Maybe you'll even be able to make it back in time for the championhip game. I know you're teammates would be thrilled to have their star back by then," the nurse said, patting Falis again. "Now take care to not get into a fight with your roommate again and enjoy your meal. The steak is excellent and a favorite of mine."

Falis smiled and nodded, rubbing her bandaged shoulder a little. "Okay. Thanks!"

The nurse left and the bounty hunter sat down to devour her meal. With the vulture gone, the act dropped and Falis had the biggest smirk plastered on her face. See - she'd been right; it had been easy.

Takaya was all but carried bodily into his room, the sedatives making him woozy and blurring the world at the edges. That, coupled with the shock, made him much more compliant than usual as he was set down on his bed.

As a precaution, the staff started to restrain him to his bed and he began to fight and struggle against the five-point straps, but another half-dose of sedatives and pain-killers calmed him down once more.

Takaya was now strapped to his bed, wrists and ankles tied down with another strap across his midsection. The nurse apologized and smoothed back his hair, but, she added, it was for his own safety as well as the safety of his roommate. He didn't want to hurt his friend did he?

Her words fell on deaf ears. Both sides had retreated into the deeper parts of their shared mental landscape.

[didn't just reply with the wrong character journal, what are you talking about. =P]

A frustrated Senna came in to Alita acting like the cat that caught the canary. Great. At least one of them was happy.

She sighed, throwing herself on her bed before turning and grabbing the plate off the desk to pull next to her. "Yo," was her only greeting before shoving a few fries in her mouth.

Zelnick really hadn't wanted to stop hanging out with Xigbar-- he honestly enjoyed the guy's company, not to mention the way his company could distract him from the 'high' spirits the visit from Talana-- Tanya-- had left him in.

On the other hand, apple pie sounded incredibly delicious, as did steak, and he set into the stuff with evident enjoyment. Not quite home cooking, but he'd take what brightness he could get, tonight.

After all, it seemed like he'd have to be cheerful for two.

Falis tracked Senna's movement through the room and her smirk faded. She cocked her head a bit.

"You look like you just had a pint of rotgut instead of the ale you ordered," Falis stated. "That's usually solved by decking the asshole that served it to you. Since they haven't poisoned you, I'll take a gander that you didn't deck anyone.'

The bounty hunter stabbed a piece of steak. "So what happened?"

Melissa was feeling much more relaxed and cooperative after her conversation with Ren, which she knew would help come nightfall when she was once again bombarded with the collective feelings of all the prisoners. It was still relatively quiet at that point, and she managed to halfway focus on what her nurse was saying as she was led back to the rooms.

"...we were so worried you wouldn't manage to make any friends, Kaylie, you're always so quiet and withdrawn. It's so nice to see you have people to talk to, it's going to help so much with your recovery."

"My name isn't Kaylie," was Melissa's muttered response, but as usual, the nurse either ignored it or didn't hear it. Sometimes she wondered how the nurses could go on believing - or at least pretending to believe- nothing went on at night with all the clues staring them right in their cheerful faces.

Claire wasn't in the room yet, she noted as they drew closer. Even after only a few nights, Melissa had gotten used to the girl being there already. It helped a little, having something to distract her from the growing anticipation surrounding her. She was just going to have to wait this time. Wait and pick at food she still wasn't comfortable eating, especially after how Landel said 'steak' on the intercom.

She took the time to eat a few more fries. "I don't think I understood what you just said, but no. Haven't hit anyone. Wish that solution would work."

Senna looked up at Alita. "Are these days really, really short to you?"

Re: F22

[identity profile] himetsuru.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Basically, what I said was that you looked like you were expecting one thing and ended up with something nasty instead," the princess explained.

"And I've never really thought about how long the days are." Falis shrugged. "I get done what I need done, usually. Sometimes the vultures cut things short, but that's about it. The nights... those seem kind of short."

Re: F22

[identity profile] windstwilight.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess that's about right," she replied, taking the plastic knife to the steak with a vengence. She ate a couple bites before replying. "I don't really know about that--only had one night to go off of. But these days seem ridiculously short. I'm in a shift, I meet someone, start to ask them some questions and it ends."

She fully sat up on the bed, stabbing the fork into the steak. "Every shift is a couple of minutes. Then it's night. So the day is an hour long?! I still don't know what the hell is really going on!"

She was more than a little upset. As if Tamaki hadn't already thrown her through a loop at brunch, and visiting with Tseng had made things ten times worse. When Elena was led back to the room, she quickly crawled onto the bed, sitting with her knees tucked against her chest, ignoring her food.

She was a Turk... she shouldn't be crying over something so trivial. But her eyes stung anyways.

What a boring day this had been.

Callisto actually yawned as she walked into her room, though she wasn't particularly tired. It was more a sign of lack of stimulation than anything. Dinner did look promising, though. Nothing like a nice slab of meat to get the night started off on the right foot.

But what to do tonight? As one of only five people, as far as she knew, that could access the area she really wanted to get to, she was going to have to regroup with patients that were clearly not fond of her by now or set out on her own. She wouldn't mind the latter if she was better equipped, but for now... Well, she supposed that was a bridge she'd have to cross when she got to it.

His visitor left ZEX drained and deeply depressed, to the extent where he could not find the energy to move himself when the nurses told him it was time to go. They eventually took his arm and supported him as they lead him back to his room, and ZEX could barely find the presence of mind to walk in a straight line. He leaned on her heavily, lost in thought over the entire experience.

"Don't worry, he'll be back next week, Max. It'll be alright," she tried to make him feel better, but ZEX wasn't listening.

When in his room, he slumped down in his chair and rested his head against his desk, and didn't move when she brought him his food. He opened his journal, wrote a few words then just let his hand collapse. Every now and then, he made a brief attempt to eat something, a piece of broccoli here and there. Over time even that was too much for him, and he just stopped moving entirely, head buried in his arms.

ZEX wanted to go home.

By the time dinner rolled around, the sedatives had all but worn off. The chef laid back on his bed and stared at the ceiling, uncharacteristically ignoring his dinner as it was brought for him. He knew he should eat it, since he hadn't gotten brunch, and he would... once he could force himself to.

Nami was gone. Released, they said. He told himself it had to be a better setting than what she'd been in here. It had to be, or he'd kill someone.

He had to focus on other things. Like getting out of here. If he continued to mope around he wasn't going to be of any use to his crew - and they'd need him even more now that their navigator was gone.

Oh, her roommate was talking. Sniffing a few times, she wiped at her eyes with her hand in an attempt to try and calm down, but Tseng had affected her more than she'd realized.

"Elena," she nodded slightly. "I'm sorry you have to see this. It's been a very long day."

Finally a meal that looked worthy enough to attempt eating.

Scar immediately began on his steak after entering his room. Though it wasn't as good as the zebras back home, it was certainly much better than anything else these hairless apes came up with. It was no surprise that he outright ignored the fries and vegetables, and only spared a glance at the dessert after he had finished the meat.

Not touching it for now, he began looking for his light stick and his 'weapon', mostly for the lack of having anything else to do. He hadn't so much as exchanged a word with his roommate, whoever that man might be, and he supposed tonight wouldn't be too different in that regard.

Even in his somewhat clumsy state, finding the items hadn't taken all that long. With an annoyed sigh he seated himself on his bed and waited for the doors to unlock. Scar had never been renown for his patience, after all.

Plans were a good thing, and Matt was glad to have them. He hadn't asked for Kenshin's room number, but he hadn't forgotten it from the other night. It meant he'd have to be the one doing the walking, but the red-head was the injured one and there were certain rules of politeness it would be best for him to follow if he was going to get the other man to help him out.

He started on his steak with gusto. The energy would be needed, most likely. Unlike Mello, who'd been worried that Sai would go too easy on him, Matt was rather hoping this would be the case with Kenshin. It was counterproductive thinking, but... Matt was fragile.

Her expression turned concerned, Sheena got up and walked over to Elena. She offered her a clean napkin.

"It's okay. I know we just met, but... if you want to talk, I'll listen." She shrugged. "Sometimes it's better to talk to someone who has no clue who or what you're referring to."
