Day 30: Cafeteria, Dinner
The cafeteria was all but empty when Zelnick got there. He was a little disappointed; he had gotten the impression that patients usually ate dinner in their rooms, so he hadn't arranged to meet anyone, and there really wasn't anyone to sit by and engage in conversation yet.
Quietly, he collected dinner and a big glass of orange juice, and chose a seat near the food-serving counters. Talking for so long had made him thirsty... and, well, fruit juice was a luxury he had missed.

"If I must be forced to eat," he glowered at the latest woman assigned to leading him. "I wish to be with Nakago."
Of course that produced confused expressions and contension that there was no one "at Landel's" named Nakago. Idiots, every last one of his jailors, or else damn fine actors. The sorcerer gritted his teeth. "He's blond, you buffoons! And he's strong looking! And I do not care what you say, there is someone here by that name!"
The nurse scanned the cafeteria, once again insisting that there was no one there with the name 'Nakago'. Her face lit up slightly as she spotted someone. "Oh, you must mean Michael," she laughed. She motioned to the man she to whom she referred.
Mozenrath took one look at 'Michael'. He didn't even have blond hair! THIS WAS RIDICULOUS! "No," he said flatly.
"Michael's sitting all by himself! He could use the company! Don't you think so?"
"No. I do not wish to speak with 'Michael'. I'm looking for Nakago."
"I think you and Michael would get along just fine!" She chirpped, taking his hand and starting to lead the man. Mozenrath pulled his arm back.
"Don't touch me!" He snapped. The nurse looked pained, but then motioned to the orderlies that waited around the room. She nodded to Mozenrath.
"Mr. Mami, if you don't behave,..."
Mozenrath stared incredulously at her. How dare she threaten him! WHERE WAS NAKAGO? However, he was ill equipped to face down the stronger men and he knew it. Muttering a string of curses under his breath, he didn't even bother to take any food. He stalked over to the table Knives had chosen and sat down, glaring at the nurse the whole time. Without so much as paying the Plant mind, he said dryly, "Hello, Michael. I'm here to keep you company."

He gave his nurse the deadliest glare he could muster across the room and ran his finger across his throat, indicating his current emotional state and what he would do to her if ever given a chance. She put a hand to her mouth in what appeared to be revulsion and moved closer to the orderlies, as if daring him to try. All in all, she didn't seem too worried.
Mozenrath's mood darkened. Where was Nakago?

"What is your name, then?" He asked glumly, putting his head in his hand and really looking at Knives for the first time since joining him. He was making small talk just for the sake of doing it, as the altertive would be to dwell on his 'defeat' at the hands of the staff. Knives would appreciate the question in the future; it was only a matter of time before the sorcerer began to complain.

He motioned to another patient. "Can't you talk to him instead? I don't see why I've got to play with you when they could have sent anyone else."

Mozenrath rolled his eyes. "Are you dumb or just a bit slow on the uptake?" He pointed a gloved finger. "I can't fathom the reason I'm even bothering with you, other than the 'subtle' threat of the violence I will receive if I don't. Aren't you going to make the effort to say anything?"
Not that Mozenrath would listen if Knives DID have something to say. Still, it seemed only appropriate to him that the plant answer the sorcerer.

The sorcerer motioned to the staff. "In fact, they told me your name was 'Michael' and you tell me it's 'Knives'. It seems to me that you can't even keep yourself straight, so don't presume to think you're above me in any way!"
Never mind that his captors had been calling him "Cheb" and "Mr. Mami". Mozenrath ignored them; that wasn't his name.

He wasn't going to defend himself, it was too much effort for such a waste of space. "I suggest you leave," he said, and that would be his only warning.

He wouldn't have bothered with the cafeteria at all, truthfully. As far as Mozenrath was concerned, you ate when you were hungry and didn't bother with it any other time. He wasn't starving, so his presence here at all was a waste of time, let alone his conversation with Knives. "That is, unless you have something surprsingly insightful to add. I'm still holding out slight hope for that."
no subject
He moved quickly, jumping up and reaching over to grab Mozenrath. He wrapped his hands around Mozenrath's neck, trying to squeeze the life out of him. Monzenrath had just pushed too far and Knives still didn't have full control over his violent urges. This place had taken away his Angel Arm, so he couldn't just remove Monzenrath's head with his blade, so instead he tried with his bare hands.
"DISGUSTING HUMAN!" he screamed as he held onto the sorcerer, wanting to kill and destroy. "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING TO. I'LL KILL YOU!"
no subject
That was as far as he managed to choke out. Knives had a massive grip on him and he was finding it VERY difficult to get anything out, much less his breath. He tried to punch Knives off of him, aiming for the stomach, but there wasn't much force behind it.
This didn't bode well.

"Mind telling me what this is about or do you just want to get sedated and get it over with?" Normally he would have been more tactful, but he was at his wits end with these people today.

He didn't care if it would have wasted the rest of his energy. He wanted his Angel Arm back so that he could kill everyone in this place, maybe then the smell of it would stop suffocating him. "Let me go!" he yelled again.
no subject
"You dare to lay your filthy hands on ME?!" He snapped at the Plant, pointing with an accusatory finger. "I single handedly conquored a kingdom, amassed a power unlike any you will ever encounter, AND became the greatest sorcerer of the age and you think you can ever so casually put your hands around my neck and throttle me?! I hope you don't ever make that mistake again, you SNAKE!"
His tirade continued as his gesturing turned towards the staff. "And you! YOU are the ones who told me to talk to this low life! I had no interest in even coming to dinner and you insisted that there was no other alternative. How do you feel about that decision NOW?"

It didn't look like Michael was going to calm down any time soon, however, and the nurse wasn't exactly looking forward to a nighttime brawl so soon after the morning one had taken out a friend of his. "I warned you, Mr. Williams. Hold him steady."
The needle was in and out with speed achieved through years of practice. It was unfortunate that so many of the patients here were so violent toward each other. Sighing, the nurse waited until the orderlies deposited Michael back into his chair and then he turned to Cheb. "I apologize that such a thing has happened, Mr. Mami, but you best not provoke him into any more violence or I'll have to come back."
With that the nurse took the orderlies and went back to standing at the side of the room, close enough that he could jump back in if needed.

Still, it was a neat trick they had pulled on Knives and Mozenrath wondered what exactly they had done. They had inserted something into the other man, an elixir of sorts. Whatever the answer, it seemed to work quite well as Knives mellowed out. Mozenrath smirked cruelly.
"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue, Michael?"

"Ooo, if looks could bruise," He purred and smirked. "Be careful with that look; someone could get hurt."
What was Knives going to do about it? Mozenrath suspected that if he tried anything again, the consequences would only be worse. He was free to do his worse as far as the sorcerer was concerned. It wouldn't go too far, whatever action he took.
