Nightshift 29: M31-M40 Hallway

Another unexciting dinner led into to another shot at busting out of the institution as Nightshift rolled around. Of course, Jack had other plans to attend to first. He had been rather interested in crashing paying a visit to M98 after the bulletin promised "cigarettes, booze, and sandwiches". The "manflesh" he could do without, but even if he wasn't welcome (last time he checked, he wasn't a hot lady, though the way things were going, who knew what tomorrow held?), he'd strong arm his way in and take what he wanted!

Sliding from his room into the hall with his maps and flashlight, the Fable set out to find his way to the party and may score some liquor and smokes.

As the nightshift rolled around finally, Kyon let out a sigh and waited. He had nothing but a bad feeling about this shift. (Not that he had anything else for the night)The guy that wanted to 'discuss' things with him not only knew too much, but held nothing but ill intent towards him (Unless threatening someones life was a new way to greet another)

Sitting on his bed he used that annoying time to mull over the events of the day. He stopped that short after a few seconds, not really wanting too.

[from here]

He glanced behind him once or twice, noting the loud, clumsy travels of one Allen Walker behind him. Probably the peon was headed to the same area, perhaps even the same room--Aidou, had, as a matter of fact, decided to make Hitsugaya Toshiro's room his second stop of the night. Thievery could be an elegant art, assuming it was done for a good cause.

And most of Aidou's causes were noble to a degree, after all.

There would probably be dawdlers, but so long as it was relatively early, he was confident he could collect his unwanted charge, relieve one of the Arts and Crafts teams of a map undetected, and use the remainder of the night in pursuit of some answers on the second floor.

Passing noiselessly into the first hall of the cell block, he bypassed the others and singled in on M37. Looked like Kyon hadn't tried to run after all. With one hand adjusting his tie, Aidou pulled open the door, not even really bothering to look. "Let's go."

Tonight they would make it to the lab. Birkin would no doubt he heading there on his own, the man was incredibly predictable when it came to certain subjects.

Wesker, hopefully, would still have a reasonable virus count in his blood. After grabbing his knife, exacto knife, and reluctantly pocketing both the flashlight and radio, Wesker set out.

Having made quick time, Sai was already at Usopp's door. Hoping the pirate wouldn't be too thrown off by the outfit, the t-shirt-belt and trowels should help, the ninja knocked smartly on the door. He'd have to announce to his friend that he didn't plan on staying in the room tonight, though he still wanted to gather materials. Hopefully the other young man would understand.

Usopp had put on his outfit, because in all truth he'd really really wanted to, it was more comfortable, it was better suited for work or exploration, and he thought he looked pretty good in it. True, it was a pair of overalls with a wrap around the waist and boots, but the look worked for him.

Which was why he had absolutely no excuse for opening the door, seeing Sai in that outfit, letting out an extremely audible squeak and closing the door shut again.

He'd managed to get back to his room without killing the nurse, instead, he settled for subtly taunting her, insulting her in the Heaven honed way so that she wasn't certain he'd said anything wrong because he was so damn polite about it. It took the edge off his anger a little, but left him feeling utterly vicious as he hadn't since Li Touten had forced Nataku and Goku to fight.

Perhaps this was how Tenpou felt every time Kenren managed to get his ass kicked and reprimanded. How he'd felt when Kenren had been thrown into prison and come back bloody and broken.

Damn. It was all coming back to him tonight.

"Bastard," Kenren muttered as he stepped outside his room. "You've always had me wrapped right around your finger."

Soubi paused before knocking lightly on the door and opening it. He peered round to Ritsuka, face blank, eye cast down and said, "Your orders?". He didn't step any further into the room.

Dinner had been quiet - disturbingly so since Tamaki hadn't appeared. His roommate's unexplained absence was just another in a string of strange events and it set Ritsuka on edge. What if he had been taken for those sleep trials? Or worse, what if he had been taken away?

With his food finished, Ritsuka emptied the backpack out of the supplies they'd gathered the night before, hiding them away in his desk drawers and stuffing them under his bed. He needed a plan for tonight. He didn't know where Miku and Alfons were, but he wanted to see them. As he emptied out his pockets, he found the cookies and sighed. He needed to know more about Jordan, as well.

Slipping his coat on, he turned as the door opened and saw Soubi hanging outside. Why the hell was he so downcast? Did something happen to him? "Orders? Don't be an idiot - just come in already."

Even after a "sleep" of apparently more than a few days, the vampire still felt slightly lethargic. He'd stayed in his bed, frozen beneath the paltry sheets provided to him, back facing the rest of his room. He hadn't touched the dinner given to him, nor felt inclined to pretend to digest some of it. Truth be told, he was worried what this flaming bus incident would be about.

Well, that and the hundred other little worries constantly on his mind.

The only thing to ease some discourse in his mind was the fact that the items he had found during his last waking night had found themselves in his room, snugly shoved into a corner of the closet, still in a garbage bag. The supplies were paltry, but still more than a flashlight he didn't require and a pipe that was probably about as brittle as a twig.

Yet Edward hated to procrastinate. The blood issue was still up in the air, ready to be solved. The problem was... well, there were too many to count. But it could wait, at least. For the moment.

So, armed with a lightbulb, duct tape, and a flashlight (who knows when such basic tools could be handy?) and a crack of both knuckles, he was off to the room who's path he had already memorized.

Harry sat on his bed, staring at nothing. He didn't move as his roommate left his room.

His parents. He had seen his parents. It was too much. He let the darkness of the room surround him. He would get over it soon, snap back and do what needed to be done to survive, but for now he just wanted to feel. This was worse than being at their graves. He fell to his side and lay on his bed, closing his eyes and not caring that his glasses were still on his face.

It was about time. Roland wasn't about to stay inside of his room for a minute longer than he possibly, humanly had to. Despite the outward calm he tried to exude, inwardly Roland was seething. The Head Doctor had dared to lay his filthy hands on Greg and twist Roland's friend into that shape... yes, the demon swore that he'd get at least a part of Martin Landel. For the first time in his life, Roland knew that he'd enjoy eating another human being, for no reason than the simple desire to kill and get revenge.

This had to be how Heat felt on a regular basis, wasn't it?

Armed with only his flashlight, Roland strode down the hallway, his gray eyes flashing with the thunder of an infuriated god. Hadn't someone said that the key lay underground, with a hint of the cold? That had to have something to do with the lake... heading that way, then, might just provide Roland with the clue he'd need.

At the least, he'd surely find a nice snack along the way. And with the apparent absence of the head doctor, maybe fortune would favor Roland with an impromptu encounter with the object of his hatred...

Once the doors unlocked, Luffy realized that he honestly had no idea what was going on tonight. Seemed like he'd caught wind of Usopp having other things to do tonight, except maybe not, and...they were still going to the basement right?

Nami had told him not to leave his room, but, well...Usopp was just a couple of doors down, right? It wouldn't be hard for her to find him if she showed up. Besides, he had warned her that he might venture out a little, so, really, it wasn't his fault if she got upset at him for seeing one of their nakama.

After saying good-bye to his roommate, Luffy slapped his hat onto his head, grabbed his flashlight and made his way out of his room.

Kurama not appearing during dinner had confirmed his conclusion that his roommate was gone. It wasn't that he'd known the other boy all that well, but there was just... just something familiar and safe about having a roommate you could trust. Probably trust.

He swore softly as the lights finally went out and the doors clicked open. Now was not at all like then, he told himself firmly, resisting the urge to curl up in a ball on the bed and hide from whatever might be waiting for him. He did, however, flick on his flashlight and make a break for the hallway and people a bit quicker than was normal.

Dinner had been a quick affair, silence stretching in the empty room. It had been a while since Aya had seen Ravi. He some times wondered what had happened to the other redhead, whether he was okay or not.

But in truth, he had heavier things to weight on his mind than to ponder what had happened to his roommate. It wasn't as if they were close like Omi and that Kurama boy seemed to be.

Where was Kurama anyhow? Aya didn't remember seeing him around for quite a few days.

When the doors clicked open and lights went off he realized he had been dreaming about nonsense a bit too long, food still half eaten on his plate. He cursed and pushed the table away with disgust. A quick rummaging around resulted with a flashlight, which he turned on and continued on his quest for whatever equipment he wanted, not that it was much in any case.

The flashlight was too bright, if that was possible. Aya could practically hear the batteries losing energy every second he took to grab new sweater, pull it on and reach under his mattress to grip his brand of improvised weapon before he was ready to head out.

He had never before seen the people on the hallway and he continued on his way without a pause. He didn't expect to find Omi there anymore but still it was worth a try to peek into the boy's room, which was, as expected, empty. Aya sighed softly and let the door close before continuing on his way. Now, what should be his agenda tonight?

Sousuke left the room almost immediately after the doors unlocked. Pole in hand, he moved at lightning speed through the shadows, ready to attack anything that would dare show its face in his direction.

The sergeant had a goal tonight, unlike the previous ones where he was simply getting his bearings straight. First a weapon, then medical supplies and knowledge for the clinic.

Logically, he would find most of the useful equipment upstairs in the pharmacy and staff kitchens. There was no doubt in his mind that the more useful tools would be kept out of patient reach--or so they claimed.

He needed knives. Sharp ones. Made of metal and not plastic.

He pulled out his map and headed out of the patient block.

The rest of the trip to Luffy's hallway had been uneventful; Nami didn't particularly feel like talking. She was on a mission, after all, and business - the serious kind - was the only thing on her mind. Argilla had managed to keep up with her, it seemed, which was good. Running was one of the skills any fighter should master.

She slowed her gait as they approached Luffy's hall, gesturing to Argilla. "He's probably in his room.." ..It was unfortunate that she didn't know which room he was in, exactly. If he'd decided to take a nap, for instance, that could be rather problematic for their schedule.

...Which he was, of course, she soon realized after taking a few steps into the hall and shining around her flashlight. Sleeping. In the hallway. That really wasn't safe, was it? Then again, Luffy was never safe..

"No, wait, he's not," she sighed. "Luffy! Wake up!" She bonked him on top of the head with her closet rod. "Hey! Luffy!"

Almost there... Raine didn't know if she should hope it would be a quiet night or not. Quiet meant fewer people than usual were hurt, but it would also mean more time to think (concentrating on her book was probably going to be difficult) and more time for people to try to get her talking. Kratos wouldn't, and Reinforce might decide it was better to wait, but she could see Tamaki trying to cheer her up. If he did, while it was a kind thought, it was also the last thing she wanted.

Rein seemed to sense some of this trepidation, or else simply chose the right time to speak up. "If the clinic becomes uncomfortable for you I'll take you out for a break," she offered. It was easier to abscond from a group with someone else by your side.

Especially someone more or less unaffected by the usual social pressures.

As the lone resident of M38, Dean wasn't inclined to go about preparing for the night in secrecy. Thoughts concerning his talk with Sam that afternoon, the surprise preceding it that still had him shaken up... pretty much everything refusing to work in his favour was currently anesthetised.

What the hell good was meditation gonna do, anyway? And just why was it that tonight of all nights he had to open his closet and discover normal clothes? Normal clothes that were...

His.

Removing his leather jacket from a hanger, he gazed intently at it, certain this was definitely the exact same jacket he'd last seen stuffed in a bag in the Impala's trunk. Mouthing 'what the f-' didn't shed light on the situation as he frantically grabbed at the rest of the pieces that completed his very own outfit. His shirts, jeans, even his boots for God's sake! Was this a joke?

If it was... he couldn't say these 'gifts' succeeded to upset him. No sir. ... Wait, was that...?

He twisted cloth band with a familiar feel to it around his fist, thumb rubbing the face of his amulet. And there was... his ring, holy-! His wristlet, too? He gave a tired, boyish smile. This had to be good news. No way the staff'd just return possessions to patients, not when their job was to reinforce the idea his whole life was an illusion. This was his first glimpse at a 'bright side' in what felt like a long time.

Something was awry in the asylum this evening. Radio guy was chatty, had Dean's attention with his claims thus far. Slipping into the jeans and socks, he realised with a sharp intake of breath that experimental trials were tonight.

The painkillers found a new home in his jacket, which he then threw on with the amulet, awkwardly adjusting the collar as he took hold of his flashlight and radio, shoved the shoes on and broke into a half-sprint.

The ninja paused in the doorway, leaning briefly on the door frame. He shouldn't have. It was difficult and painful to get moving again after he had, even if it was just a few steps to one of the beds.

The pillowcase was dropped unceremoniously near the dresser, and Sai fell into a slump on the mattress as though his legs wouldn't keep him up anymore. He brought his weary head forward to rest in his hands and didn't plan on getting re-situated for the next few minutes.

Usopp and Sai both moved with more confidence once they'd reached an area that was more familiar, and Sasuke followed Sai's footsteps into the room with a certain amount of relief. Dropping the remaining jugs of bleach, he moved his injured hand cautiously, wincing a little as a few of the clotting cuts opened again.

All in all, though, the glass hadn't been too big, so it was just a surface injury. Nothing serious, especially if the Institute was going to take care of it tomorrow.

"Are you two planning to stay here the rest of the night?" It was probably advisable that they did. Sasuke was still interested in the possibility presented by the radio announcement earlier, and since this 'mission' was over -- and there was another possible goal -- Sasuke was considering moving on.

Sasuke took a moment to centre himself, and then started off down the hall. The library, wasn't it? Hopefully he wasn't too late for information.

The M31 hallway. The clinic was...35, right? She hoped so, otherwise she would be barging into someone's room who had no idea what was going on.

Rinali bolted out the door again, then stopped, glancing behind her to make sure the others were following. "This way," she said, praying to God that Komui and Allen were alright.

The library was through the sun room, from what Light remembered. He'd actually never been in there himself yet, but it looked like that was going to change tonight.

He didn't have time to mull over that now, though, so he merely headed down the hall at a near-run.

As they kept moving, Peter counted the numbers down backward in his head until they were in front of what should have been M35. Using his flashlight, he checked it before glancing to his roommate and nodding.

"This is it, right?" He wasn't sure how Logan had found out about this place, or if it would even be any help, but it was somewhere to go if nothing else.

"You wanna take the lead from here?" There was a chance Logan knew someone who was involved if he'd had that information, so it would make sense for him to go in first. He had the kid, after all. And maybe his get-up would come as less of a shock that way.
