Nightshift 29: M31-M40 Hallway

Another unexciting dinner led into to another shot at busting out of the institution as Nightshift rolled around. Of course, Jack had other plans to attend to first. He had been rather interested in crashing paying a visit to M98 after the bulletin promised "cigarettes, booze, and sandwiches". The "manflesh" he could do without, but even if he wasn't welcome (last time he checked, he wasn't a hot lady, though the way things were going, who knew what tomorrow held?), he'd strong arm his way in and take what he wanted!

Sliding from his room into the hall with his maps and flashlight, the Fable set out to find his way to the party and may score some liquor and smokes.

The rest of the trip to Luffy's hallway had been uneventful; Nami didn't particularly feel like talking. She was on a mission, after all, and business - the serious kind - was the only thing on her mind. Argilla had managed to keep up with her, it seemed, which was good. Running was one of the skills any fighter should master.

She slowed her gait as they approached Luffy's hall, gesturing to Argilla. "He's probably in his room.." ..It was unfortunate that she didn't know which room he was in, exactly. If he'd decided to take a nap, for instance, that could be rather problematic for their schedule.

...Which he was, of course, she soon realized after taking a few steps into the hall and shining around her flashlight. Sleeping. In the hallway. That really wasn't safe, was it? Then again, Luffy was never safe..

"No, wait, he's not," she sighed. "Luffy! Wake up!" She bonked him on top of the head with her closet rod. "Hey! Luffy!"

Argilla slowed down too, keeping pace with the other woman while still keeping a wary on their surroundings, ingrained habit that she'd probably never be free of. At least there was no all pervading scent of blood this time.

Her eyes widened though when the flashlight ran across a human figure apparently sleeping in the middle of the corridor. So this was the person that they were meeting?

Argilla followed Nami towards the man, smiling politely at him.

It hadn't taken long for Luffy to doze off. It wasn't like anyone got a lot of sleep around here anyhow, and he'd slept through a good portion of nightshift in the past. His sleep hadn't been very deep, though there were faint dreams of an ocean breeze, a huge mountain of meat, and some long-necked birds loping across the sea shore. And then a coconut had fallen against his head, hard.

Startling awake, the dark-haired pirate rubbed the top of his head, looking up at his navigator. "Oi, what'd you hit me for?!"

He paused when he saw Nami had brought someone along -- a pink-haired woman, from the looks of it. "Who's this?" he asked suddenly, pointing towards her.

"To wake you up. We haven't got a moment to waste. Get up," Nami said curtly. She seemed to change when there were things to do and a limited amount of time to do them, it would seem. She didn't want to be set back like she had last night!

The navigator looked between her two companions for the night. "Luffy, this is Argilla. She's my roommate, and she's never seen the sea. She already knows Sanji, too. Surprise, surprise."

She winked at Argilla, not altogether humorless even at this time. "And this is my captain, Luffy - who I'm going to hit on the head once again if he doesn't hurry up."

Argilla nodded towards the young man that Nami introduced, grinning at him. "Hey. Seems that never having seen the ocean is a big shock around here. Guess this isn't the time to say I'd never seen grass or blue sky or a yellow sun before I came here, huh?"

She returned Nami's wink. "Nice to meet you Luffy."

Luffy grumbled under his breath, something about how funny the birds on the beach had been, but he hauled himself up to his feet, stifling a yawn as he did so. He could see why they'd be in a hurry, but didn't Nami know it was rude to wake a guy up when he was napping? Sheesh!

"Argilla, huh?" he echoed, looking at her curiously now. "You'd really, really, really never seen those things before, though? Wow!" He blinked, leaning forward a little. "What color is the grass and sky and sun where you come from? Man, I wanna check that place out!" He'd had no idea those things could be other colors. Wow, a guy really could learn something new everyday.

He beamed. "And nice to meet you, too! I'm sure we'll have a great adventure together, hee hee hee!"

"Save the discussion for when we're moving, guys," Nami said with a little sigh. Introductions were enough, and now that Luffy was awake (or at least awakening; for all the world, he had to be the most difficult person to awaken) they could get going again. She couldn't imagine Sanji and Zoro were too far ahead, but she didn't want to assume anything.

"Besides, we might beat Sanji and Zoro if we hurry - and, more importantly, everyone else who's after that treasure."

She knew those competitive words would get Luffy to follow her, and Argilla was following anyway, so she strolled right out the hallway..
