Day 27: Intercom, Evening

The intercom gave its cheery jingle just before the Head Doctor's equally buoyant voice rang through the halls.

"Ah, and finally, our day is coming to a close! Rooms and roommates have been reassigned with care, though what great partnership can start without a good meal? Ah, yes, after the nurses escort all of our patients, new and old, back to their proper rooms, everyone will have the chance to enjoy a savory chicken pot pie, full of peas, carrots, potatoes, and of course, chicken. On the side, we'll have buttery corn on the cob and green beans, and to drink, you may choose from the regular slew of water, milk, or assorted juices, which your nurse will bring to you.

"I believe that's all for now! Phew, long day, huh? I know I'll be happy to get some sleep, and thank you to all our vigilant doctors and nurses, although Dr. House seems to have gone AWOL... Hmm... Well, in any case, have a good dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again as the nurses began organizing the patients for the small trek back to their rooms.

[ OOC: Remember, room threads go in response to THIS post, and please put your respective room number in the subject line of your first post. Thanks! ]

"That's good. I did get a map and find a new night partner, at least for tonight, but..." He didn't want to admit the worst of it so he tried to think.

"Have you ever read a book called Eldorado?" He tried his very best to sound casual about it.

Hisoka was not in the best of moods when dinner finally arrived. It was not his fault the asshole in the library had a concussion! If the idiot was in so much fucking pain he shouldn't have opened his mouth! He, Hisoka, had calmly helped him out and what did he get in return? Insulted!

...He should have thrown a larger book.

Hisoka scowled as his shook off his nurse at the door and walked in. Hopefully this dinner would be without the bared souls and comfort time, he had already gotten the point, he was a weak little kid, he didn't need any more reminders.

Rukia felt shaky and numb as a nurse led her to her room. Between the shock of seeing her brother here, and the realization that Renji knew about her conversation with River... Rukia didn't know how to feel.

When she saw Kairi in their shared room, Rukia did her best not to look like a wilting flower. She owed the girl a thanks, at the very least. Taking a deep breath, she stood off to one side as the nurse placed dinner on the desk and left. Once the door had clicked shut, Rukia walked over to her desk but did not sit. "Kairi," she said, turning to the red-head, "I... Thank you so much, for what you did in the library."

Soubi was getting a little tired of the nurses. They prattled on and seemed to want his attention, despite the fact that he was supposed to be a patient in a psychiatric hospital. He'd told them, quite bluntly, that he didn't care for their attention and would rather be escorted by somebody who kept her thoughts to herself. He'd thus been landed with a heavy-set nurse who was either middle-aged or incredibly worn out. She didn't say a word unless she had to and Soubi was rather pleased with it.

He walked into his room and stopped. The nurse, having almost bumped into him, stopped as well and peered around him. She didn't seem to think anything was out of the ordinary and Soubi moved to his desk, still watching the stranger he was left to share a room with.

He didn't say a word until the Nurse had left.
"You are?"

Ururu wasn't quite sure what to make of the extended hand, but since Ed seemed nice, she stuck out her hand in the same manner. "It's nice to meet you."

It seemed strange to her that people would make up their own names, but Ururu decided that it was okay. Jinta-kun called himself "Ultra Super Baseball Star Jinta" a lot, and she didn't mind that. "No. Kisuke-san named me. But I'm glad you liked it."

The only problem with Ed's name is that it made it hard for Ururu to decide what to call her or him. "Um. Should I call you Edward-kun, Edward-kun?"

Evening was falling. When the sun finally set and the stars came out, doom would surely reign free upon the land. And oh, how Stork was not looking forward to that.

"Come on, Jamie," said the nurse as she opened the door to his room (a different room than the one he'd woken up in, and also occupied by another person), "It's time for dinner. I noticed you didn't eat much lunch."

"Of course not," he muttered, staring down at the food sitting on his desk.

"Well, you'd better eat dinner, or else you wont' be able to sleep - you'll be hungry all night." She gave him one final warning before closing the door and locking it behind her.

Stork looked over at the door, down at his food, and then over at the young man eating at his own desk. Sweet Atmos, he's actually EATING it.

"... you do know that's probably filled with germs?" he said, one eye twitching violently.

Renji acknowledged Hisoka's entrance with nothing more than a grunt. He continued to work on copying the maps, not looking up from them, his untouched meal on the corner of his desk.

He'd tried to tell Rukia not to come, and she would be there anyway. He didn't know what to do any more.

Adelheid wasn't going to be so busy in the night. This was both a good and a bad thing for the boy; good, insofar as it meant he could conserve his strength and possibly get things done. Bad, because it hinted that his plan to become less important wasn't as necessary as he thought. Life would go on without him; he just had to accept that.

But at least Larsa still seemed happy to be around him; that little was still a good thing. Considering how they had started, Adelheid was rather surprised; but perhaps it meant that both of them could move on as a result. It was hard to say... but at least there was one constant in the ever-changing world of Landels. A constant for now, anyway.

Ami returned to her room, thoughtful. Her conversation with Roy and the other young man in the library had been quite helpful, and she was filled with hope. While she probably wouldn't get a chance to meet up with the healing group tonight, Ami hoped she could the following evening, and perhaps even bring them supplies, if she could find any.

She entered to find Anise already in the room, and Ami smiled genuinly at the other girl. "Good evening Anise." Ami noted her eating with only one hand. "I missed you this morning. Did you get injured last night?" Ami asked, concerned as she sat down to her dinner and wincing slightly at the discomfort in her own arm.

What was with the dinners here anyway?!

Rhode pouted down at the overly healthy arrangement of foods before her, growing audibly. Nothing sweet. Not one single thing! Even the juice was sadly lacking in sugar content. Lunch hadn't been any sweeter either, though she hadn't eaten any of it, and that little fact was coming back to bite her in the butt. She didn't want to be hungry all night while waiting for breakfast.

Well, so long as the Earl didn't see that she was willingly eating her vegetables like a good little girl, she supposed it couldn't be all that bad. She stole a glance up at her roommate again as she took her first bite.

Dessert came later.

Ed shook Ururu's hand firmly and then stuck both hands behind her back, grinning happily. "Most people just use 'Ed' but Edward-kun is so so cute! Ed likes this name." Her tummy was telling her that dinner was being neglected, so she performed a quick backwards handstand and then plopped into her seat. There were so many yummy nice treats here to eat!

The conversation with Sheska had been an interesting one. That girl could be extremely useful to L. And she seemed so desperate for a friend... it would be easy enough to encourage that. Naomi could be perfectly friendly when she wanted to. It just wasn't her default setting.

She was a bit disappointed when her nurse pulled her away to take her to dinner. And she mentioned something about meeting her roommate. A roommate? She wasn't even going to be able to retire to her room and process all the information that had been dumped on her throughout the day? She needed time to compile her report for L! How was she supposed to do that with some strange woman in her room?

How could things possibly get worse?

The nurse opened her door and ushered Naomi inside, chattering on about chicken pie....

Arietta didn't like this place one bit. It was big and scary, and she couldn't find her friends anywhere! She had to find someway to get outside. They would be there. They had to be.

Her anger had mostly dissipated, replaced with a dull panic for her situation. She still had no idea where she was or why she was here. In the past, Van had always gotten her out of places like this. He would come for her now, right? He needed her. He did! She was one of the god generals! She was needed for something still, Even if she wasn't needed by Ion.

The first thing Arietta noticed as she was led back into her room was the presence of another person. She bristled at once, but by then the nurse had already left, closing the door behind her. Arietta raised her hands in front of her, now aware of the absence of the doll she usually used to hide herself in these situations.

Tamaki bounded into his room, journal clutched in his hands. He had so much work to do!

"Oh! Ritsuka-kun"! He smiled widely at his roommate and bounced onto his bed, clearly energized and pleased. He was doing something! He was doing something well! He hoped everyone was proud of him....

Kairi jumped when she heard the door open, and quickly calmed herself down with a simply brush through her long hair. Turning her head to see Rukia move towards her desk in silence, the copper headed girl smiled softly at her roommate and nodded her head. “You don’t need to thank me. I think he’s mad at Sora and I now anyway.” Letting out a soft laugh, Kairi lowered her head and looked up at Rukia through her lashes. She … didn’t look well.

“Are you alright? You look kind of pale, Rukia.” She got up from her seat quickly and moved towards her friend, her eyes full of concern for her friend. “Maybe you should sit down …”

As his nurse asked him how he was doing and other mundane questions, Lee thought about where he was going to start searching this night. He had a terrible sensation that something else was going to happen. However, he was not going to let that stop him tonight. He felt he had to do something.

His answers apparently pleasing the nurse enough to finally leave, Lee sat down on the bed.

"There is something that weighs upon your mind, Takaya-san? You seem to be ignoring your dinner..."

Jean had only introduced herself to Ashe when a nurse took her back to her room for dinner. She hadn't liked that; things had been getting interesting, and the other woman had reminded her uncannily of Lady Achea.

Assuming she survived tonight, she decided she would seek her out again. Now, however, she had to eat.

Chicken pot pie again? Well, Jean wasn't going to complain. She needed to eat more than ever, especially in her injured state. It wouldn't do to hold Captain Kuchiki and the others back any more than she had to.

Well, Tamaki seemed to be in good spirits. Ritsuka smiled faintly at the sight of his roommate happy. He'd been having problems the last time he saw him, so it was good to see that whatever it was had cleared up. That also meant Tamaki might be willing to tell him just how long Ritsuka had been gone. He'd never gotten the chance with Aidou.

"You look pleased with yourself. Something happen?" he asked, pushing a pea out of his food. He disliked foods that color.

The last shift had sort of felt like a waste in some ways, but it had given him a chance to rest further. His bandages were starting to itch, meaning that he'd at least healed somewhat since the previous night. Most of the burns had been internal in any event; there was little the bandages could do for that.

He let himself be ushered into the room by the nurse, who handed him a tray (he'd requested just water to drink, since he couldn't get a beer) and shut the door behind him. He saw that Parker was already munching away; he offered the younger man a small but genuine smile as he sat on his bed across from him, and picked up his fork. The food smelled pretty good, but he addressed the Spider before digging in.

"Evenin', bub. How was yer day?" The casual way he said it might have sounded a little bizarre in a place like this, but he was genuinely interested. "Mine was fairly...productive, at least in terms o' meetin' new faces, an' discoverin' new...opportunities." Whilst awaiting the other man's response, he finally started on his food.

Having pulled his mask back up when he heard someone outside, Kakashi didn't look over until he caught the other staring at him. Setting down his drink when he was addressed, he turned back to his own desk disinterestedly.

"Yo," he greeted mildly. "Hatake Kakashi, pleased to meet you." This last bit was said with only the slightest bit of sarcasm, prompted by the stranger's less-than-thrilled reaction. "Can I ask the same?"

Instead of showing any fear, (like he ever would anyway) Jade eagerly waited for the moment of silence to pass before Riddick continued. Ah, it was almost poetic in a sense, or at least for someone who seemed to speak with his fists. He simply nodded, pressing another forkful of potpie in his mouth while he did so.

"Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't the goal be to gain potential allies instead of fighting them? That is, unless it works differently from where you come from."

A-ha. There she was. Her dinner decimated, Dairine put the tray aside and stared at the empty plate. Well, she'd gone through that fast, hadn't she? Hunger was a great motivator. At least she wouldn't be hungry tonight, but the dinner might make her tired. Irritated, she tried to think of what she would do for the night. Oh, great. She hadn't managed to secure a group, which was bad news. Normally, she liked working solo, but she sensed that here it wasn't the best idea. Anyway, her powers were weak if not nonexistent. Best to go with a group, then.

Maybe she could ask her roommate. "Hi," she said, nudging her own tray even further to the side. "I'm Dairine. We haven't really talked yet..."

She didn't even know her roommate's name.

Today had been eventful, even considering that yesterday half his team had been killed and brought back to life, aliens had invaded the earth, and two of his team members had gotten engaged.

Lord Recluse had therapy with Hannibal Lecter, he was giving orders to a stormtrooper out of Star Wars, and that Sousuke kid...

And now he had a room mate to deal with, Statesman nodded a hello to him before sitting down to his dinner.

The schedule for this place was throwing Oriya off and with how much he was already left wondering, he didn't appreciate the extra effort. That and the constant need for supervision was chaffing, could he not return to his quarters on his own? ...Apparently whoever gave this place the impression that he was insane also possibly hinted at him possessing horrible directional skills and the constant need of attention. But then again, this place did not seem to follow any one set of rules (monsters roaming the night-- what the hell was this place?!), so Oriya wasn't entirely sure if this place could even be considered credible.

Just his luck.

Thankfully it did not take too long to reach his room and a new room at that, if compared to the one he awoke in. This room had another individual present and Oriya could only hope this man was much more pleasant than his appearance though experience had shown Oriya otherwise.

Soubi took in the man's scar and the eye it fell across. There was something oddly beautiful about it. While he hated a great deal of beautiful things, this was different. Scars and tattoos, markings, they were all so raw but delicate. They all had their own stories.

Soubi stopped looking and poked around at his dinner.
"Agatsuma Soubi."
He'd like to have left it at that, being a man who lived happily disinterested in the world as Hatake-san seemed to be. But he supposed there was no harm in gathering information, however small and insignificant. Maybe the guy was from their world, which would prove Ritsuka wrong and possibly lead to answers about this whole thing.
"Japanese? I don't suppose you're from some distant era?" he asked with a voice that sounded like it ought to accompany a bored sigh.
