Day 27: Sun Room (4th Shift)

Momo's mind was turning over all the possibilities surrounding this "field trip" to the surrounding town when she settled down in the corner of the Sun Room away from the Arts & Crafts room. She curled her legs underneath her as she waited for Shouko-san to find her. The shinigami had no idea what she looked like, so she kept an eye on all those entering the room.

It was still very cold, or at least she was cold, and the momentary thought of getting her coat from her own room passed through her mind amidst the field trip thoughts. She pushed it away and decided to deal with it being as cold as it was since she'd already been late to one meeting today and didn't want to start making it a habit.

As she waited, she pondered the next day's possibilities. Maybe, just maybe, once away from the institute the shinigami will have access to their full reiatsu. And if not, maybe they'll have a better idea of how they are being limited so much. Maybe Aizen would be able to find her then. He'd save her... right? Right?

He hadn't been quite this apprehensive since... well, actually, he couldn't remember when. He wasn't even quite sure why he was nervous, but he was pretty sure he didn't want to be here, looking for Hitsugaya.

He spotted the other boy on a couch in the sun room and made his way over, trying not to picture the trek with a funeral march for a soundtrack. He really had to stop watching those American movies with Yohji.

He stopped next to the couch but didn't sit. He wasn't sure it would be welcome. "You wanted something, Hitsugaya-san?"

Hitsugaya looked up as Omi approached. Hopefully they could make this quick. "Yes," he answered. "I'll keep this brief. Tsukiyono-san, Farfarello advised me about your particular profession, and I don't care. We shinigami have assassins of our own, and it's considered every bit as honorable a profession as my own division. I don't even care if there are parts of your life before coming here that you'd prefer I don't know. Just tell me it's private, or confidential, or otherwise let me know you just don't want to talk about it. Don't pretend like something isn't there, because it's dishonest and disrespectful. I don't care what you do, I care that you deceived me."

Assassins. Honorable. Right. Because shooting people in the back was the definition of honor.

He bristled at the talking to. He hadn't been what anyone would consider a child except in age since he could remember, and yet here he was letting Hitsugaya talk to him as if he were a little kid caught stealing a cookie. Maybe Ken and Hitsugaya were right, maybe he should have been more open about the whole thing, but assassins who went around blabbing about what they did to everyone they met didn't stay assassins very long, if they managed to stay alive at all. Maybe he was being a little childish in holding to their cover story even here, but...

Well, anyway, too late now. "Anything else?"

This was why Hitsugaya hated working with children. A shinigami would have acknowledged his words and either had a response or simply informed him it wouldn't happen again. This was irritating at best.

"That's it," he answered. "And by your response, am I to assume you won't be working with us tonight?"

A shinigami was not human, nor would he have had the upbringing Omi did. And, in some ways, Omi had been amazingly sheltered, while in others he knew more than the average adult twice his age. It made for some odd reactions.

"I think that would be best. Sorry." Not that he sounded sorry, but it was just what a person had to say when he turned his back on his responsibilities.

Hitsugaya stood. There was no reason to bother with this further. "If that changes, let me know," he said, then turned to find his other meeting.
