Day 27: Sun Room (4th Shift)

Momo's mind was turning over all the possibilities surrounding this "field trip" to the surrounding town when she settled down in the corner of the Sun Room away from the Arts & Crafts room. She curled her legs underneath her as she waited for Shouko-san to find her. The shinigami had no idea what she looked like, so she kept an eye on all those entering the room.

It was still very cold, or at least she was cold, and the momentary thought of getting her coat from her own room passed through her mind amidst the field trip thoughts. She pushed it away and decided to deal with it being as cold as it was since she'd already been late to one meeting today and didn't want to start making it a habit.

As she waited, she pondered the next day's possibilities. Maybe, just maybe, once away from the institute the shinigami will have access to their full reiatsu. And if not, maybe they'll have a better idea of how they are being limited so much. Maybe Aizen would be able to find her then. He'd save her... right? Right?

On most occasions Haruhi largely ignore the intercom. Today she had intended on ignoring the intercom in favor of thinking up good SOS Brigade meeting times. But thinking about the brigade got her thinking about Kyon and that was enough to break her train of thought long enough for her to hear about the field trip. Dolyeton huh? She'd never heard of it, but it would be a nice change from the usual day activities. She lived for the night anyway.

Haruhi went to the sunroom to check the bulletin board, but she couldn't help but notice the girl nearby. Of course, it was probably just her "cute mascot girl radar" going off. She was still on the lookout for one of those for the brigade. Might as well see if this was a candidate!

"Are you cold or something?" She asked, noticing that the other girl had shuddered. There was also the possibility that she was thinking something unpleasant, but what did a cute girl like that have to worry about?

That voice almost reminded her of Utena, and Anthy tried not to look disappointed that it wasn't her ex-fiancee-turned-prince-slash-savior-slash-best-friend-ever. It would be rude to give the first impression of a disappointed face to someone who had been nice enough to ask her a semi-concerned question.

"No, not at all," She said, displaying something just short of her older plastic candy-coated smiles, having no intention of giving implication of her grave thoughts, "Are you?"

Well, Haruhi was pretty much on the money with this one. She was really cute!

"Er, not really. It's pretty warm in here, though I can't say this place really caters to your comforts that much." Definitely, definitely not. "I could really do without the nurses breathing down my neck..."

Ok, time to jump ahead now. "I'm Haruhi! What's your name?"

[identity profile] iamyourflower.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so..." She hadn't had much of an issue with the nurses in this place; they had kind of just filtered into the background noise to her- the shadowpuppets and faceless adults of this world, "They've been fairly pleasant to me." Perhaps that was because flying under the radar was what she was most skilled at. Being considered cute, dumb and agreeable had its advantages.

A first name basis so soon? What a forward girl.

"Ah- Himemiya. Anthy Himemiya. A pleasure, Haruhi-san." She nodded her head politely.

"They never let me do what I want. Always have to follow these stupid schedules all the time. It's so much better at night when they're not around!" Haruhi made it a mission to make her nurses lives miserable most of the time, which could really explain the treatment she got.

"Anthy-chan, huh? It sounds pretty."

[identity profile] iamyourflower.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Anthy nodded with the ease and (to appearances) insincerity of a well-practiced stereotypical housewife sympathising with her husband's stresses.

"Oh, but aren't there worse things around at night?" Anthy hadn't experienced any of these things first-hand, but she had gathered that they existed.

Anthy truly did lose a bit of composure with the way Haruhi addressed her, "-c-chan...?" she repeated, blushing slightly, "Oh, thank you. Your name is pretty as well," She tried to change the subject uneasily.

"Worse? No way! The monsters are great. I got injured by one last night. See!" Here Haruhi lifted up the edge of her shirt to reveal the bandages wrapped around her abdomen. "It also paralyzed me, so that part was kind of annoying." She wasn't going to mention the time when she actually feared for her life. Haruhi had to keep up appearances, after all. But truth be told, she was still a bit shaken after the whole ordeal.

"Yeah, Anthy-chan!" Haruhi was one of those girls who largely ignored the rules of familiarity. "It’s cuter that way!"

[identity profile] iamyourflower.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose it is..." Hardly anyone referred to her by her first name, and certianly not by -chan, at least not recently. There had been a few duelists over the years with particular tastes; other brides who spat out the honorific with a weighty maliciousness unique to vengeful girls; duelists seeking sister figures, friends and family replacement and girlish ideals of a beautiful friendship in their posession of her hand. They'd never really sought after her; just what they wanted her to be. She almost felt weary, thinking over the scores of duelists who had crossed her path, blindly seeking childish things. All the young humans whose lives she'd scarred for what she had believe was all for the better.

Haruhi's enthusiasm about being injured and paralyzed by a monster made Anthy a little leary. It could have been that she was just trying to act tough and show off, but even the most tomboyish of girls that Anthy was acquainted with had known when to stop for injuries.

Perhaps the girl was just prideful and not boyishly reckless. Like... Nanami-san, perhaps. Anthy mentally cringed a bit. Nanami had certainly not been her favorite person to deal with. But! All in a day's work, Rose Bride or not. Certain people had to be tolerated, and no use making judgements just yet.

"I hope it didn't hurt too much," She said, standing uncomfortably as if morbidly drawn to reach out to the wound itself.

[identity profile] notearthlogic.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't like it?" That didn't meant that Haruhi was going to stop referring to her like that, but Anthy's hesitation was enough to make her pause and ask. It wasn't like it was that weird. Hadn't anyone called her that before?

"It did, a bit... but then it numbed and I became paralyzed after that." Haruhi hadn't really thought of it that way. Maybe it was a good thing she had been paralyzed. Sure, she hadn't been able to move, but she hadn't been able to feel the pain either. It must have been harder for Mewtwo, who had to carry her all night because of that. Ugh, she wasn't going to let that happen again!

"Oh, no. It's not bad. I was just a bit surprised."

She hadn't encountered any of the horrors of the institute (Unless an ominous looking hallway counted) before running into Utena, so she felt nervous and even a little guilty for not knowing just what kind of pain the others had come upon.

"I suppose that's good. -That you weren't able to feel the pain too badly, that is. I hope it wasn't too scary for you."
