Day 24: Recreational Field

The second thing Riku noticed was that this Landels had the smell of a room that'd been drenched in bleach. Possibly one that had marinated in it for a longer period than it should have. Still, what it smelled like (aside from darkness) wasn't important in this instance, it was the facade the building had taken. A fairly solid one, in the way of Mental Institutions. .. Not that Riku visited them often, but if he had, he imagined this to be the approximate appearance they'd hold.

Along these lines, at least. Perhaps more elaborate, add more curtains variation so as to not drive patients insane.

.. Because that's what really mattered when you were being called 'Billy Zane' and being told your life was a lie. Interior design. No; sometimes Riku had to wonder if living with Maleficent had done irreversible damage to his brain. His hair might be part of that, that he could cut though.

When he came out to the field and realized that he couldn't stand around and look pretty was expected to do more than stand still, he just stared at his nurse. She, being the strange woman that she was, stared back. This caused a staring contest that lasted for two minutes before she tossed a ball at his head.

He caught it, but it forced him to blink. Thankfully this wasn't a real contest, otherwise Riku's manly pride would be at stake. Only not, seeing how she cheated with that cheap shot.

Not that it mattered, he had a feeling that once the other patients started arriving, he'd obtain his few answers.

What the hell was wrong with this day?

As she was once again led out of the cafeteria, Kairi thought through the recent events. Not only had she met a girl who seemingly knew everything about her life, but she also met Riku ... yet not Riku. He hadn't even known who she was ... and while that had been a total damper on her attitude, she didn't show it beside the silence that was once again surrounding her and her nurse as they walked to god knows where.

By the time Kairi came to AGAIN, she was out in an open field, the nurse waving goodbye happily before vanishing. The girl blinked in surprise, looking around as a soft "Um.. ?" escaped her lips. There was no one to be seen, except for one person standing out in the middle of the field looking like a total loner -- wait a minute.

Squinting her eyes, Kairi put a hand onto her forehead, using the appendage as a visor. The way the sun glinted off the person's hair ... made it a shade of silver that was all too familiar.

Oh, the not-Riku was here too.

Letting out a soft sigh, she decided to head towards him. After all, not like she had anything else to do with her time.

Finally getting close enough, Kairi realized something was much different about this Riku. Not only was he taller than her by practically a foot it seemed, but also, his hair was much longer. Blinking in surprise, she tilted her head to the side, staring up at this maybe-Riku in wonder. "Riku ..?"

"Alright, Ashley, here you are. Look, there's already a few patients out here," The nurse smiled, which only made Luke all the more irritated. He was filled with the overwhelming desire to punch her in the face, but Luke knew it wasn't the right thing to do.

Oh, but he wanted to. He wanted to.

"Can you... can you not call me that? Please?" He grumbled, figuring he should have been nicer to the nurse sooner. That seemed to do the trick, as the nurse nodded and finally let go of him.

"Of course, Mr. Spencer! Now, please, enjoy the sunshine. I heard you haven't been out in quite some time." The nurse also handed him a small notebook and a pen. "Your family has requested that you keep a record of your stay here, in case you suffer amnesia again. I heard you also did this while you were at home?"

Luke was stunned, to say the least. How did she know that much? Of course, some of what she said was common knowledge, but only a handful of people around the world knew that Luke had to keep a record of things. In case he forgot something again... Luckily, this time, his memory was fully intact. Hoping that the notebook would somehow contain his old writings, Luke opened it, but found nothing but blank pages.

"... Thank you," He actually sounded sincere this time. It wasn't much, but at least he had time to write and collect his thoughts. He was about to ask the nurse a few more questions, but when he looked up, she was already gone. Well, so much for that.

Luke didn't feel like bothering the other stranger, who seemed just as lost as he was, so he plopped down right onto the grass and started to think, pen poised to copy down his thoughts. But there was just so much to take in... he was completely lost.

Where was everyone?

Masaru's conversation with Larsa was cut short when that damn nurse arrived and herded him off to the recreational field. She seemed quite pleased when she was left with no resistance, probably thinking that sedation stunt had calmed him down.

"Don't get the wrong idea," he told the woman with a glare. "I will get to that Head Doctor bastard."

"Whatever you say, dear," said the nurse. Masaru wasn't sure if he'd ever wanted to hit a woman so much.

The woman dragged him along the field until they reached another redhead saying, "Here. Since both of you here for your first day, I hope you can look after each other. Try not to cause any more trouble, Mike."

"How many times do I have to tell you that's not my name?! It's-..."

The nurse was already gone. Masaru slumped into the grass with a loud sigh, hardly believing he was going to allow him to stay in this place any longer. Larsa owed him big time for this. But since he was here...

"Hey there," he greeted, giving the guy next to him a lazy wave.

Faust wasn't much for games, or playing outside, or, well... doing anything outside. So when his nurse led him outside and told him to 'have fun', all he could do was stand there and blink at her. With a sigh, the woman picked up a small black and white ball and tossed it to him.

"There you are, Mr. Klaus. Kick that around a bit." She sounded so cheerful, Faust wanted to put his fisth through her teeth. How could she be so happy at a time like this?!?

He looked down at the ball in his hands with confusion. Of course he knew what a soccer ball was, had even seen it on tv from time to time.

But that didn't mean he knew how to play it in person.

When Yuffie heard that they'd be doing outdoor activities, she could have jumped for joy. Finally! A chance to be outside and actually do something. But..when she got there, she couldn't believe her eyes. What were these things? These weren't activities... They were kid games. Kicking around balls and stuff, that wasn't any fun. And here she thought there might be cool games. Figures.

Still, it was something to do, at least. Even if it was a sucky 'something to do'. Everyone looked preoccupied with one another, and not wanting a nurse to pester her some more, Yuffie decided to follow suit.

"Hey!" she grinned and greeted a very tall guy, holding onto a black and white ball. "Whachya got there?"

(From here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/112896.html?thread=7322112#t7322112))

Well, lunch had certainly been something else. Then again, Jack Horner hadn't intended to wake up incarcerated again so shortly after his escape, let alone in a similar- but not the same!- facility. Not that it mattered; he was already formulating an escape plan.

The nurse had just laughed quietly at him when he informed her that he was going to speak to Martin Landel himself and made some comment about the drugs not being quite out of his system. He'd have to cut out the middle man; there was no way he was going to accomplish anything if he was expected to go through nurses and orderlies to get what he wanted.

But here he was now, standing on what appeared to be a soccer field as various other patients filed in around him. It never did any good to be the odd one out. He'd have to find someone new to talk to, lest he wind up chatting with another little girl.

Elfangor felt a wave of relief as he stepped outside. He looked around and then frowned, once again his mouth didn't move the expression was only in his eyes. There was a fence around the entire yard. A fence. He made his face as emotionless as possible. It is only the Yeerks trying to play mind games, don't give them the benefit of seeing you worry. Still, there was the tinge of claustrophobia that he couldn't really escape.

He wanted to take off the slippers the nurse had put on him and run in grass, but it wouldn't have to same calming affect it had on him in his normal body. He didn't want to think of the soft human feet that needed to be protected from the dangers of the ground. He had always hated shoes and socks.

He needed to be formulating some sort of plan. The shock of being eaten by Visser's morph and then suddenly stuck in human morph had worn off. He felt ashamed of how he had acted when he woke, first being so stunned as to fall off the bed and then being unable to take action when a Yeerk finally did confront him. Pathetic really. He wondered what the other princes would say about his inactivity.

He stared at the people already outside. They wore the same strange clothing as he did, but did that mean that they too were being held by the Yeerks? Or were they Controllers themselves? For that matter, why had the Yeerks gone to all the trouble of making sure Elfangor would survive the Visser's morph, turn him into a human nothlit and not infest him? They must have wanted something very specific from him. But what? He would have to find out. He was certain this wasn't the work of Visser Three, it was much too indirect. The problem was he wasn't sure if that was good thing or a bad thing. Visser Three he understood, this new Visser was a completely different Yeerk.

There was another problem. He had been on this planet for several minutes and his body had yet to sync up to the rotation. It had to be a planet, he didn't feel or hear any signs of it being spacecraft. The color of the sky and the plants around him made him believe that it had to be Earth, but it had only taken him seconds to feel Earth's rotation before. The only clue he had to what time of day it was was the sky above him. He didn't like that. How could they disturb his sense of time so completely?

Despite his nurse's glare he didn't want to join in with any sort of games, though a walk sounded nice to clear his head. He wanted his stalk eyes back so he could watch the people around him without having to turn his head so much, but he also couldn't afford to not watch them. He didn't think he could trust anyone. They could all be Controllers.

[Hopefully it's okay if Qui-Gon jumps in? :P]

Lunch had been somewhat productive, Qui-Gon Jinn reflected as he was led down the winding halls to this "recreation field". While he hadn't come any closer to discovering a way out of Landels or even learning more about Martin Landel in particular, he had gleaned some more information about Earth itself from Max. The planet, according to her, was mostly water with several large landmasses and one satellite (no mention if the Earthians had established anything on that moon or not, though). There was that, and the fact that his choice of hairstyle was apparently "strange" by Earthian standards.

I must speak with Obi-Wan next chance we have, Qui-Gon thought as he entered the recreational field. He could smell that wet scent of freshly cut grass, which was generally a greenish color here on Earth and not particularly high (or dangerous). The Jedi Master took a moment to glance around, taking in patient positions as well as where the staff where.

It was probably an exercise in futility, but it was more out of habit than anything else that Qui-Gon reached out in the Force to see what he could sense. Fear, anger, pain and hatred; these seemed to be the most common emotions he could discern from a feeble scan of the room, dotted here and there with those strange holes in the Force where the staff where.

A walk would probably help him collect his thoughts - this place was hardly the Room of a Thousand Fountains, but it was much more condusive to meditation and reflection than a noisy cafeteria. Qui-Gon started down the path, glancing up and realizing he wasn't the only one who had this idea.

Haku stepped out into the light and smiled upwards, pleased the sky had cleared up a bit. The weather was much more comfortable and he turned to look up at his nurse. "May I just run," he asked brightly. The woman beamed.

"Of course Christopher. Just don't get into anyone's way and be careful, okay?" Haku nodded and smiled happily. "Thanks!"

He started off at a light jog, just a bit faster than a trot. He needed to think and what better way to do that then to preform some mindless activity like running.

After a while, Haku slowed and started to just walk, his mind running through plans, ideas and anything else he could think of to distract his thoughts from descending into depression... again.

Naoe didn't feel well. He was sick with worry and craving nicotine. It was strange because he never considered himself a real addict to those things before, mostly he just used them when he felt overwhelmed... though he supposed this counted. He had skipped lunch, which meant he had no idea how Takaya was at the moment. It worried him.

The teenager wasn't outside yet and considering his injuries he didn't see how the staff could expect him to exercise. He did, however, see Haku. He smiled very slightly through his stress. Talking to the boy had made him feel better before.

He caught up to the boy and started to walk beside him. "Hello Haku, do you mind if I join you for a bit?" he asked, tone friendly. He didn't show signed of his emotions, except for the fact that his face a bit paler.

It must have been an illusion, Seishirou decided by the time he arrived to the field with his nurse. First of all, he didn't have a hand sized hole in his chest, blood gushing down his form. Secondly, he couldn't cast his spell, which made him feel a lot more uneasy than he otherwise would have. With his magic this wouldn't have been such a big deal. And thirdly, this grey uniform must have been a personal insult of some sort. With a twist of humor, he admitted.

"Here we are, Mr. Gray," the nurse announced cheerily.

"I see," he answered and paused beside her to watch on the field. He couldn't remember the last time he had played any kind of game like this. Mind rape or plotting for the end of the world, yes, and not to forget his favorite game of Subaru torture, but nothing with balls unfortunately.

"Well then?" She urged him on. "Have fun."

"Thank you, I'll try."

When she handed him a ball from the ground, he smiled and accepted it, moving with it towards the center of the field.

Still dazed and confused, it didn't take much convincing to escort Hisoka to the recreational field after lunch was over. It did take a while to get him to his feet, but that was merely because he was still completely out of it and any movement beyond breathing took much more persuasion than what was necessary. In the end, though, the boy was escorted with no trouble at all and left to his own devices on the sidelines, out of the way of all other activities.

In other words, Hisoka toppled over onto his side-- his head was much too heavy, what was going on?-- and proceeded to close his eyes once comfortable.

Tsuzuki was up and out of his chair as soon as Byakko and Tatsumi had mentioned something was wrong with Hisoka. Why he would have been drugged, he couldn't understand, but the 'why' didn't really matter right now.

Unfortunately, before he could reach the boy, Tsuzuki was intercepted by a nurse, claiming that they were to be directed to the recreational field for activities.

Except Tsuzuki didn't want activities. He wanted Hisoka.

But no amount of pleading would get the nurse to relent, so he was forced to follow her. At least they both seemed to be going to the same place... That was just about the only reason that Tsuzuki didn't push the nurse out of the way and bolt for Hisoka anyway.

Once outside, though, there wasn't anything to stop Tsuzuki when he ran over to the boy who had collapsed on he ground.

"Hisoka?!" he called, kneeling down to pull the boy back up into a sitting position. What had happened while he was gone?!

This wasn't anything like what he'd expected to see when the woman lead him from his room. The fact that she kept referring to him and everyone else as "patients" didn't help any. All he could figure out was that this was indeed some sort of hospital. What his purpose here was, he had no clue.

As she left him on the edge of the field, he found himself an out of the way place to stand and watched the other men and women there with mild curiosity. Surely he would be approached by a contact at some point and all of this would become clear to him. For now he could merely search the crowd. Some of the people here, he noticed, seemed a bit worse for wear. All of them wore the same gray as he did, with that same simple smiling face on the front. It was an odd choice for a uniform.

At one point, another woman in the same attire as the one who'd brought him out there shoved a ball at him and told him to go mingle, but didn't stick around to see that he actually did it.

He took the ball in his hands and examined it, turning it over and over in his fingers, but it was simply a ball and nothing more. Nevertheless, he held onto it as he continued to wait.

Jack scanned the field, eyes settling on one kid in particular. He was just standing there, holding a ball and...not much else. Perhaps he was lost.

The perfect mark for Jack.

"Hey there!" Jack smiled, moseying to the boy's side. "You know, those generally work better when kicked."

Sports. Artemis didn't do well with sunlight, he hated mass-produced food, and now he was expected to engage in physical activity. Well, he wasn't going to go down without a fight.

"Here you are, Sean!" His nurse presented him with a ball, which he proceeded to stare at, and then at Nurse Hedgerow. "Go and play with the other boys!" She gestured around, smiled, and left to stand with the other nurses. She gave Artemis a cheery, encouraging wave, one which Artemis did not return. What was he supposed to do with this thing?

The boy looked around. A boy with white hair was talking to a girl, a boy with brown hair was looking at another boy with reddish-brown hair like he was from a different planet, a tall man with blonde hair was looking at a soccer ball in a similar manner, a younger man was walking around looking very paranoid or confused--or both, a girl with long black hair and a tall man with brown hair were talking quietly, a tall man was crossing the field with a ball in his hands, another man was pulling a boy off the ground--he looked concerned, and yet another man with blonde hair was talking to another boy with black hair--probably about the ball he was holding. No one he knew. No Renji, no Namine, no Obi-Wan.

Artemis suddenly felt very alone. He missed talking to people, but he was too--shy?--considerate to interrupt anyone. Besides, he had plans for tonight, a backup plan in case he was taken by the head doctor, and information courtesy of the bulletin board--what more could he gain?

The boy bounced the ball on the ground and caught it again. He sighed, thoroughly unamused.

[identity profile] royal-mechanic.livejournal.com 2007-05-26 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Edgar felt slightly better after his conversation during lunch. Slightly. His thoughts went to the Head Doctor's voice over the intercom; it seemed he was the one behind everything, organizing their lives. Well, he'd just have to wait to hear what he had to say at night, he supposed. In the meantime, he made note of the rooms he had mentioned, the courtyard, which he'd already seen, and the greenhouse. He still did not have a satisfying grasp of the building's layout, and every information helped.

As he stepped into the Recreational Field, he took his leave the nurse who'd accompanied him, bowing courteously — far be it from him to show disrespect to a lady! — and looked around the area. He saw nobody he recognized, and most were already engaged in conversation. But something caught his eye; a boy, standing by himself and bouncing his ball. He looked somewhat lonely, and Edgar's felt a slight pang in his stomach at the thought of someone so young in such a place. They truly were inhuman.

"Hello," he said, approaching the boy. "Is everything all right?"

Larsa had been hoping that the Nurse would escort him into a quieter part of the Institute after Lunch. However, the child soon found himself outside again, despite the fact that it was in a different area from the Courtyard. He supposed more sunshine never hurt anyone, enjoying a gentle breeze before making his rounds in this 'recreational field'.

It didn't take the child long to catch sight of Masaru, almost beaming when he found his friend talking to another redhead. Though before Larsa could walk towards them there was a sudden feeling of dread that hit him like a ton of bricks. It was almost as if some greater force was warning him of the dangers, and that he may very well not make it back alive if he dared to get close to them.

The thought itself seemed almost silly in a way, but Larsa soon found himself walking as far away from the two as he could before nestling at one of the corners of the field. The different kinds of balls had piqued his attention, but Larsa thought that a moment's rest was welcoming right after Lunch.

Miku had been separated from Alfons in the flurry of movement that seemed to accompany each shift change, and was hurried outside again.

Sunlight, the girl decided, was only good for napping in. There were lots of people that she noticed, but none of them were Alfons, or Ritsuka, or anyone one she remotely had touched base---

---wait, there was that little boy from yesterday. She crossed the field, wishing she had a hat, certain that the sunny afternoon weather was going to burn her cheeks into a permanent blush of moe doom.

"Do you mind if I join you?" Miku asked. It was probably one of the only times she could think of herself looming over a person, so she knelt down to have better eye contact with him.

Elena had gotten rather used to the shift changes in her time at Landel's. They always seemed to happen at the most inopportune of times, but there was no fighting them. She had a perfect record of not being sedated yet, and she didn't want to break it over something so trivial as wanting to spend more time in the cafeteria, of all places. So she followed her nurse meekly out to the field and started to amuse herself with a softball and a glove. It was a very half-assed game of one-man softball, but she only needed to keep up appearances.

Somehow, she didn't think that the nurses would take very well to her just standing around.

When Obi-Wan was escorted to this recreational field, he couldn't deny that it was nice to be outside for a change. The air inside the building smelled so sterile, and there wasn't very much plant life to speak of. By a stroke of bad luck, he'd managed to miss every outdoor shift during the week he'd been here, excluding his bout in the courtyard a few nights ago. That hadn't ended so well.

For a moment, he entertained the idea of meditating out in the fresh air, but he ultimately decided that would have been more appropriate for a place like the sun room or the courtyard. No, it was probably best to get a little exercise while he was out here.

As he gazed around at the other prisoners, he couldn't help but notice a teenaged girl standing with what looked to be some sort of Earthian sports equipment. Curious, the Jedi made his way over and nodded to the girl in greeting.

"Hello," he said, and his gaze drifted to the ball and the large glove. "What is it you're playing there?"

Naminé's lunch was actually eaten in her room last shift, as she was filled with a sudden dread the moment she spotted Larxene in cafeteria. The Nymph was speaking to Xigbar when Naminé saw her, which gave the witch ample time to pretend to be sick and have her nurse get lunch for her. Unfortunately, Naminé's nurse also thought that some fresh air would do the girl some good for her supposed sickness and Naminé was left out in the field, with a ball given to her by a nurse.

It was a strange ball, covered with black and white hexagonal squares. The nurse hadn't told her what it was, just that she should kick it around and have fun. Was it used in some kind of game or were all balls just decorated with strange patterns.

With nothing else to do, Naminé took the nurse's advice and started kicking it around. It was a little relaxing, she admitted, taking a walk awhile kicking a ball around.

Ignoring most of what the nurse said to him, Lee looked around to see what was going on, and noticed a blonde girl kicking a ball around. He smiled, thinking about how wonderful it was for practicing balance, strength and speed.

He walked up to the girl and said, "Hello! My name is Rock Lee, and would it be a bother if I could join you in this wonderful game on this shining day in the pits of darkness?"

...sunlight.

As soon as the door had opened, Roland had been frozen to the spot. Sunlight. Green grass. Fresh air. People who had some screws loose were playing in the light of God without turning into stone. Not a hint of blasted waste or barren soil to be seen.

It was... it was beautiful. That was the only word Roland, a classically-trained author with a master of vocabulary, could think of. Was this... was this Nirvana? The paradise that the AI had fought so hard for? Had God somehow been soothed, Roland's plan somehow successful?

Despite all those questions, all Roland could do was fall on his knees and run his hand through that soft grass, still almost incapable of believing that there could be so much greenery, that this all wasn't a dream to taunt him. But when he felt the soft grass between his fingers, when he knew it was real... tears began falling from his eyes.

While he'd managed to avoid going to lunch (no telling what they would put in the food) his 'nurse' had been quite stubborn on getting him outside. It would be best to not draw attention to himself during the day, even if that meant having to suffer through the condescending, overly sweet attention of the nurse.

As soon as he was outside he located someone else to speak to. His conversation with HK had been interesting, but not very informative. SubZero spotted a man by himself, on his hands and knees, and decided to see if he knew anything.

Of course, once he was close enough SubZero could see that he was crying, it was a bit late to just veer off and go somewhere else. Had someone knocked him over or beat him up? He didn't look injured, or like he'd been in any sort of fight at all.

"What happened to you?"

The only highlight of Penelo's day was meeting Protoman and Larsa, and after those meetings, the day started to go by slowly. Lunch was uneventful and Penelo didn't see Kazuo anywhere. She didn't want to have to be as impersonal as contacting him through the bulletin board, but it seemed that she had no choice but to do so. Just to ask him if they still were going to team up tonight and raid the supply room, to put it lightly.

There also was so sign of Protoman as far as she could see, and Larsa was speaking to someone else, so Penelo figured she was on her own. Ah well, perhaps she could find someone else to talk to. It wasn't like there was a shortage of people in this place anyway.

Something was bothering Penelo through; she noticed there were a lot of kids in this place. Not an overwhelming amount, but she had seen them. What kind of sick place was this where they dragged in children?

"No, you don't understand - I'm not crazy!" George would enjoy this trek a lot more if they were almost picking her up by the arms to literally carry her along. You say one thing about not wanting to follow someone to a place you don't know and they're all over you. "I don't belong in here. I- I can't stay here!"

She had a job to do, damn it! If she couldn't take the souls she was assigned… She needed to get out, but these people just weren't listening to her!

"Ah- hey!" She squirmed in the orderly's grip like a Gyarados on low health, as the 'leet kids' would put it. "Let go, fucker- ow!" Elbows to their chest were no good. In fact, it only hurt her more than them; thank god reapers heal fast. But alas, there they were in the field, much to George's complete digress.

What the hell was this place?!

Nel's conversation with Albel had been interesting, at least. Memories erased, or possibly different timelines. A quick look at the bulletin board Edgar had told her about had added fuel to her theory that there had been many different Earths. How many Elicoors had there been, in that case? Was there an Elicoor for every Earth? Was there one Elicoor for the entire set of Earths? Or were there only as many Elicoors and Earths as there were frames of mind, of perceptions? Or were there as many Elicoors as there were people here who'd known the misty green planet? The thought that multiple planets even existed was still new to her, and not altogether grasped as a fact of life, so it was easier to question and play with in her mind.

Ah, philosophy!

So Nel stood akimbo as usual at the edge of the strange, mowed field, watching the people at play while she buried herself in her thought. She'd keep an eye out for Fayt and Cliff while she watched the kids (so many kids) play. She'd have to be the one to approach Cliff eventually, if it was true that he wouldn't remember her. If he had forgotten Albel somehow, then who could rightly say?

She always had enjoyed watching people like this, though she supposed she wouldn't be opposed to eventually picking up a ball and tossing it around. It'd be a good warm-up for the Nightshift, anyway.

The great goddess of the sun had always been one for play and movement; therefore, being given an offer to stretch her human legs was a good thing.

But then her eyes were attracted to a red-haired girl- a rich red, a dark red, something that the goddess had never seen before- who was standing there all alone. While thought was often very important, sometimes it was motion that was more important. Everything was better after a nice long run.

So Amaterasu approached the woman, eyes more attracted to that rich shade of hair than to any other part of the other's body, and she quietly asked, "What are you thinking about?"

Oh, rapture. As if it wasn't bad enough that Schuldig had evidently chosen the wrong shift for his mind-meld with River - he'd hoped for the sun room, somewhere inside and quiet - there was even more of an influx of new patients. New minds, pressing against his, scrabbling like rats in their confusion and panic. New distractions, at a time when he needed to concentrate as fiercely as he ever had.

As far as he could tell, he was the first of their little group to arrive thus far. River and the rest of Schwarz were nowhere in sight. No matter; he'd wait.

He dropped himself onto the grass in a lazy sprawl that looked far more relaxed than he was, trying to put his thoughts in order during what might very well be his last reasoning moments as a sane man, and conveniently hid the nervous trembling of his hands by burying them in the grass.

Interestingly, the anxiety seemed to be making him almost as jittery as if he'd actually had some caffeine in him.

[identity profile] jei.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
More bright sunlight. Great. But at least he was away from that girl, and the crowded cafeteria. There were many people out here, too, but it didn't seem as bad outside.

Finding Schuldig easily despite the man's supine position, Farfarello made a beeline for him. No one was with him. So, whoever he was supposed to be working with so dangerously hadn't arrived yet. It wasn't surprising that Crawford hadn't--he'd been getting a last few words in with that girl when Farfarello had left the cafeteria.

Settling onto the grass beside Schuldig, Farfarello rested his face, good eye down, against Schuldig's chest without a word, hoping to shield himself from the sunlight as much as possible. That this left him entirely blind was not a problem--he'd still hear or feel someone coming.

Omi was more than happy to escape the cafeteria as soon as the shift changed. At least he was pretty sure nobody he knew would follow him onto the field if he didn't attract attention on the way out, so he stuck close to his nurse, letting her lead the way till they got outside.

He threaded his way through the growing crowd, heading for the far side of the field and not really watching where he was going beyond trying to make sure he didn't walk through the middle of any games or into any people. He stuck close to the fence and walked, letting his thoughts wander. He had a lot to think about after this morning. Hopefully he could come to some conclusion before dinner.

At least he knew he could beg off with plans for nightshift.

It was a beautiful, sunny day outside, pleasantly warm instead of swelteringly hot and humid, like Tokyo had been. Kenshin took a moment to bask in the sunlight and just watch those around him. Such a day would have seen Kaoru and Yahiko training in the dojo with the doors opened onto the veranda to let the breeze cool them. He would have been doing laundry, watching from the courtyard and noting proudly how much Yahiko had improved. And then Sano would have come in, looking for a free meal (since Tae at Akabeko occasionally put her foot down and banned him from eating there until he paid his tab...before inevitably relenting and allowing him back).

What were they doing now, he wondered? Maybe they thought he had begun wandering again, despite his reassurances that he would never abandon them again. What would such an assumption do to Kaoru-dono? To hear Yahiko and Megumi-dono tell it, last time had nearly broken her. Kenshin liked to think that she was stronger now, but she was so very reliant on him...

Thus lost in his thoughts, Kenshin almost collided with a young man who seemed similarly occupied. It was only his highly adept reflexes that saved him, though the untrained eye would not have noticed.

"Oh! Begging your pardon."

[[coming from here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/112896.html?thread=7300096#t7300096)]]

Outside again. It was doubtful that the ones running the facility could really believe customary exposures to fresh air would lessen their prisoners’ feelings of confinement though. The knight chalked these slight privileges up to the staff wishing for more chances to observe them all as she walked out across the well groomed field.

The fact her servant was not yet present was only noted casually while she glanced across the different groups already forming. It was best that she spoke to ones she did not know for now, and sometimes that could be made quite a bit easier without him present. Possessive, attention seeking creature that Alucard was.

Doubting anyone would approach her first -she didn’t need to be told that she could appear less than accommodating- the blonde merely looked for anyone with a seeming air of intelligence. Someone with whom she could make acquaintance with next.

[identity profile] grosse-sklaven.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
All right... this was going to be a challenge. Adelheid had been meaning to speak with the woman who'd managed to smack around Alucard, but he'd wanted to get healed first. If that attack had knocked a vampire flat, it probably would do a number on Adelheid as well.

She seemed to be looking for something, herself, which wasn't necessarily a good sign. In Adel's opinion, getting in a woman's way was only asking for trouble. On the other hand, it was in his nature to help women, as well. So... he took that risk.

Walking up to her, he offered a slight bow. "Excuse me," he politely said, "but are you looking for anything in particular? My name is Adelheid Bernstein, and I've been here as long as anyone else has; perhaps I can point you in the right direction?"

After that, then he might be able to get an answer to his own questions.

The shift change didn't come soon enough for the priest, but it was one of the rare times he'd welcomed it. Sanzo'd had enough of Homura to last him a lifetime already.

Everything still seemed foggy as he was led out to the field. Sanzo sat down as soon as he could. Gravity wasn't nearly as much an enemy as that day directly after the torture session, but it had a way of sneaking up on the priest every now and then. The last thing he wanted to do was stumble.

Sitting down seemed the safest. He settled into a pose more for meditating, although he kept his arms braced on his knees for balance. Actually meditating was out of the question. He couldn't meditate in this state, not when he'd be unable to get past the first few phases... but he could close his eyes and hopefully, hopefully drive off the haze that was still surrounding him. Or wait it off.

The nurse chattered about idle things as she led Relena to the field. Looking out at the field, she saw a couple of people running, with others standing in groups talking and/or passing a ball amongst themselves. There was no structure, no equipment that she really recognized. Oh, certainly some looked vaguely familiar, but nothing that she had used before. No basketballs that she could see - the only sport that she really knew because she had seen Heero and Duo play it once.

Relena tried not to feel too awkward on the edge of the field, unsure on what to do. Physical education at her old school consisted more of sports like polo or fencing, not this...chaotic mass of people in identical outfits. Still, she supposed the nurses expected her to at least walk around the field a bit, but that didn't seem appealing. Maybe she could find someone and question them as to just what was going on at this "Landel's."

Usagi was sad to have to part with Naruto and Rock Lee. Nighttime was coming soon and she wasn't sure whether to be frightened or excited; it would be then that she would get her chance to find more information. Her no nonsense nurse left Usagi little time to gather her thoughts before the older woman was ushering her outside.

"Would you like a ball to play with, Victoria?" the woman asked as they reached the field.

"Um, do you have any frisbees?" Usagi said after a moment, she almost didn't realize the nurse was talking to her when she said 'Victoria'.

"Here." The nurse handed her a beaten up red ball. "Go play with someone." And with that she walked off, leaving Usagi alone on the field.

Usagi stood there stunned for a few seconds. How rude! But should she really expect anything more from the enemy? She sighed and scanned the area. There were many people already occupying the field either playing with balls or chatting with other patients. She noticed one girl standing all by herself. Reminded of how lost and alone she had felt this morning, Usagi skipped over to the girl.

"Hi!" Usagi said with a cheerful smile and ball in hand. "I'm Usagi, what's your name?"

Kurama left the cafeteria less than pleased with his situation. That was definitely a conversation he hadn't intended to have...And he didn't much like the looks that Aya and Omi had been throwing towards him and Yohji during the course of most of it.

Of course, he had been in worse situations before. The only difference was that he hadn't cared about the other people involved. And that made all the difference. Maybe he was getting too attached... Who was to say he'd ever see them again once he'd escaped this place?

Shaking those thoughts away, Kurama politely requested a badminton racket and a birdie from his nurse. Taking them, he removed himself to a far corner of the field the one that Omi wasn't heading towards. Sitting back in the grass, he leisurely batted the birdie up into the air over and over, a simple task that made it look as if he were enjoying himself, while still allowing his mind to wander. With any luck, he wouldn't be disturbed.

[identity profile] seiran314.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not much unlike Kurama, Aya had escaped the cafeteria happily, hiding in the crowd as much as he could. He wished he could have a pleasant conversation with Omi one day, or a silent moment even when they didn't say anything and still there was no awkwardness. Daydreams, it was unusual for him to revel in such.

Outside, his nurse gave him an encouraging smile and asked what kind of equipment would he need. Aya shrugged, not interested, but glanced around the field to humor her for now. His spotted Kurama sitting alone in the grass and nodded towards him.

"Give me one of those."

After receiving the racket and an encouraging words how it was 'nice to see Mr. Seto making friends' and a smiling suggestion to 'have fun," Aya headed towards Kurama.

He stopped beside the other redhead and dropped down to sit on the grass, knees pulled up and elbows propped up on his knees.

"So Omi told you." Why bother with niceties? He sure was not in the mood for those. This was what he wanted to talk about, 'hello' or 'nice weather' didn't change that fact.

Naoya pretended to listen to the nurse speak as he followed the woman-- if that was what she really was-- outside. Far more pressing matters weighed on the young man's mind. Groups of other people were scattered along the field, some playing games while others loitered. Looking around at the faces of others, Naoya couldn't but feel the mounting disappointment and fear at not seeing his brother.

He had to be here... He just had to be.

Naoya didn't know what he'd do if he wasn't because that would mean... And he didn't want to think that. Not unless it was true. He seated himself down on the grass and closed his eyes as the nurse disappeared.

He didn't want to think at all right now...

((ooc: I hope you don't mind Takaya joining you. If so, let me know and I'll delete. ^^))

A nurse and an orderly led Takaya outside, a difficult task with the young man more aware than he had been the last time. He didn't want anyone to touch him, so the nurse had taken to hovering at his side and warning him of very little thing in his path. Takaya was almost ready to sock her.

"Oh! Alan!" Yeah. Going to hit her now. "Why not sit here?" The woman sounded far too cheerful for her own good and Takaya snarled.

"Why don't you-"

"Hi James!" She spoke right over him. "I hope you don't mind if Alan here joins you. Just becareful," her voice dropped to a stage whisper and Takaya's snarl became audible. "He's hurt himself recently."

Before Takaya could protest or move, he was left alone and he heard the nurse practically skip off. Not knowing whatelse to do, and unable to see where he would be going anyway, Takaya sat down gingerly and scowled towards the ground.

At least he was outside. He liked being outside.

Rukia wandered outside slowly, still a little unsteady on her feet after healing Adelheid. Thankfully, the nurses seemed to realize that she was feeling tired, so they didn't bother to make her join the other patients.

Stopping in a fairly open area, Rukia closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun on her shoulders.

Jack had decided that beauty sleep sounded better than sloppy joes - he had to keep his girlish figure, after all - so faked a stomach ache so he could catch a nap in his room. Recreation field sounded interesting, though, so he miraculously recovered in time for the next shift.

The nurses probably weren't fooled; he wasn't trying, either. As long as he'd gotten what he wanted, it didn't matter. And they still flirted with him, anyway.

Time to meet another new person, he decided. He picked someone at random and walked over. She looked maybe the same age as Usagi, so he decided to start with that general tactic - the winning smile and the friendly demeanor. "Evening," he said.

Darman wasn't quite sure what to make of this news of HK-47, a Sith droid specializing in extermination of Jedi, but he did know he'd need to sit on it. Maybe bring it to Ordo's attention when he could.

Too good to be true.

It probably is.

The clone absently followed the nurse to the recreational field, eyes still flicking around and taking in the new environment to catalogue it even as his mind was otherwise preocupied. Grass, open area to run, with two strange white, metal projections on each end that he had to wonder what their purpose was. No sharp edges, unfortunately, and he knew his hidden knife in the room was still his best tool for the time being.

Darman wasn't one for wasting time and while he didn't like the fact he was a POW, he might as well make the best of it while he could; keeping his physical condition at peak levels was right up there in priority, especially considering the food they were feeding the prisoners most likely wasn't as nutritiously balanced as the food cubes. Darman began to jog around the field, breaking into a healthy, brutal pace that he remembered from Kamino - only there was a lot less rain, no brothers, and no threat of culling if he fell behind and was the last of the pack.
